It's complicated. Giving this venue one or two stars is not justified in my book because it serves a large clientele that absolutely LOVES this place. No, it's not Taco Bell - it has personality. The clientele is also quite different. Having said that, if you're looking for a culinary and upscale service experience, don't even stop here. No, you can't get Chateau Latour served on Waterford, Swarovski or Baccarat wine crystal delicately placed on Beauville table linens while Cire Trudon table candles spread their scent on the venue. Not even in your dreams. The old CNN reviewer Elsa Klensch would have fainted. I came here after the first day of the ski season at Okemo and with no lunch, a tiny breakfast and being in the mood for quick tacos, I was ready for an experience. This is the perfect venue for a quick, inexpensive, and yet tasty lunch or whatever in an "early college" motif as young hipsters with ski head beanies, Grateful Dead T-shirts, Bernie bumper stickers, Burton board pants and Northface backpacks come in and start buying out the place and carry out the food to eat in the parking lot inside their Smart Cars, Kia Souls and Hyundai Accents. Actually, it gives the place an ambiance. I could even see Taco's Taco's opening up a second store at Killington, the universal Winter capital of the brash college demographics. Coming into Taco's Taco's it is actually a pleasant experience. The place is presentable, yet a little funky. The bathroom hand washing warnings are in Portuguese, there were wall tapestries made with coffee burlap bags from Medellin, window balances from Arizona, and backpacker, Vermont and ski-related bumper stickers on the wall, Comfortable kitschy. The number one thing to remember: This place is... yes... Cash only... Yes, repeat CASH ONLY - although there is a gas station with an ATM next door. However, when you sell your tacos at $2.65 each, every penny counts so I understand the policy. Coming in here, I found the young woman at the register to be exceptionally friendly and efficient. She had a six-person family right in front of me with an interminable order, which kept on changing as apparently the entire family was pursuing advance studies in drama. But she handled them superbly. Then it came time for my order. Three chicken tacos and their home made iced tea. Actually I thought it was quite good. Tasty chicken, good ingredients, nothing soggy or brown, and plenty of hot sauce at hand. The tea was superb, considering I eschew commercial carbonated drinks. I devoured the tacos and I could have had more but I remembered I still had an hour's driving ahead of me and didn't want to have a sugar low on the way home. Would I return? On a cold day when speed counts on the way back home from Okemo, yes. If I want a dining sit-down experience, not at all. But overall, it has a special place for a definite part of our ski culture. read more

Another restaurant with at least average expectations fell a few notches - A very tiny establishment with only 4 tables. They have no grill, so in essence, they have no flavor to grill burritos,tacos,quesidillas. How can anyone be satisfied with a taco or burrito heated by a convection oven? They weren't so busy but the food was bland..it did seem like a lot of it came from cans and definitely was not fresh tasting like most Mexican Restaurants. Literally the worst burrito I have had in my life. Absolute shit. Ingredients were terrible, flavorless and entirely unconsidered. Atmosphere is cliche, stereotypical and somewhat problematic. Highly recommend the owners and chef rethink their ingredients and approach: beans, salsa, tortillas, pico, guac, meats, all need to be changed. Probably the worst nachos I've had in my life. I went in for a late lunch after finishing up a contract job in town. It was mid-afternoon and many places did not open till 4:00 according to Yelp listings. I ordered nachos with chicken. I was served promptly, but after digging around and eating a few bites, I realized that there was no chicken in my chicken nachos. I told the counter-man that I could not find any chicken in my chicken nachos and he said he would make me a new one. Perfectly reasonable solution to the problem and a bonus point to the counter-man. The replacement was not quite as quick to arrive but when it did it was a larger portion than the original, another bonus point earned. Digging in, I did find some warm pulled chicken along with lettuce, onion, olives, peppers, tomato and maybe a few other veggies piled on top of ice cold liquid nacho cheese and nacho chips. I'm not a fan of liquid nacho cheese and I usually try to avoid it, however the customer before me was told that they were temporarily out of shredded cheese, so there was no chance of even trying to ask for a substitute. I've never had cold nachos....maybe its a thing, but not in my realm of experience. I did manage to finish the order, but only because of the need to assuage my hunger. Several hours later, I'm still feeling the digestive effects of cold liquid nacho cheese and very much regretting my decision to try Taco Taco. I stopped in here on Sunday on the way out of town after spending a weekend in the area. The place is small, decor is simple, the menu is also pretty simple. Tacos, nachos, burritos etc. I ordered a chicken burrito to go, hold the jalapeños. This burrito weighed about 3 pounds! It was stuffed full of deliciously fresh ingredients and had just the right amount of fillings. There was zero flavor in the chicken tacos. Completely no spice at all - as if they shredded a blandly roasted chicken and slapped in a taco shell. Really disappointing. How hard is it to cook the meat with a little cumin and whatnot? The cheese nachos were also uninspiring - as if they picked up thick, round tortilla chips at the stop n shop and melted Velveeta on top. At the very least, send sour cream and salsa on the side. I overheard someone talk about her nachos, and let me quote her, "they were crunchy", which is exactly how nachos should be. My burrito did two things; tasted like a burrito, and made me not hungry. Another plus. And they have a sign in their parking lot telling you not to be a bad person and leave your dog in the car. Cool. The tacos are hard shell like the kits you get in the store. The salsa tasted like ketchup and stewed tomatoes. The server tied his shoes then made our tacos. No flavor in the meat. People were fighting over the hot sauce to add some flavor. The guy let us bring our beer in, so that was cool. read more

Their motto is best tacos outside of Baja. So. Yeah. Not so much. But the pizza place seems to be gone from his little shopping center, and there are limited options for quick food downtown. The tacos are hard-shelled. The chicken isn't super flavorful and it's pretty drippy, but it actually seems reasonable healthy and didn't taste too greasy. Teenaged staff definitely don't give much of a crap, but they helped us immediately and got us what we ordered, so hat was fine. The seating and food are totally frilless. I drove by this place a few times before finally taking the plunge. I really REALLY wish I had just kept driving. I appreciate everything from fine dining to quirky fast food, but this place really doesn't even make the fast food cut. They have about 10 ingredients total in the whole place, and they all come from a can, a bag, or a freezer. It looks to me like they got a bulk discount on some "Ortega Family Taco Dinner Kits" and figured they would start a business. There is nothing authentic about this place. The service there was also just pathetic. We were the only ones in the place with two guys behind the counter and we stood there for 5 minutes until they even acknowledged we were there. Then, when I ordered, they both just floundered around for a few minutes. I asked for no cheese, and when I got the tacos home, one of them had cheese on it. Luckily for me, I didn't even make it through the second taco before I was just disgusted with the food and couldn't have eaten it anyway. My friend got a burrito and a root beer. The root beer had no syrup in it, and he was in the bathroom half the night after the burrito (no joke). My favorite part was the tagline for their beans - "Our hearty recipe!" What, is there a special way you plop the beans out of the can into the warmer? Nothing had any seasoning in it whatsoever, and their "taco sauce" is just packets of industrial crap. Way overpriced, and just shockingly bad. Do not waste your time there. People keep comparing it to Chipotle. Not even in the same league!!!! Food starts with ingredients guys, and you won't win any awards with a can opener and a heat lamp. Point is, if you are looking for somewhere to eat, even for crappy side of the road fast food, just go next door to the chicken place, or down the street to Java Babas. I was passing through Ludlow, VT and was hungry, but did not want the "typical fast food". I stopped at Tacos Tacos and was pleasantly surprised! It is small it has inside & outside seating. The staff was super friendly. I chose a chicken burrito and customized it with no problem. The wait was reasonable and it was absolutely delicious!! I was driving through Ludlow and had to stop, I'd been there a few years ago. I love this place. It's clean, neat and very happy. Bathroom is well presented, dining area is very welcoming, clean and friendly. The gal who was running the place couldn't be happier and more pleasant. They are able to take credit cards now, which was really helpful as I only had $2 cash in my pocket at the time. The unsweetened tea is really, really good, if you're a tea drinker you know how infrequent that is. Had two bean and beef tacos with lettuce and tomato, they were very good, shells fresh and crispy, taco sauce was good, Probably should have used the spicier types at the main counter. It's American taco's, which is what I was looking for. Menu is simple, uncluttered and I found satisfying. It is what it presents and does that very well, taco, taco. I'll make sure to stop by next time I'm through too, it's an affordable, very upbeat, clean, happy place to grab a meal with friends or family and it's NOT commercial. It's refreshing. It's a really good burrito Taco's Tacos is a favorite of this foodie. While it is not hard core Mexican it is a great place for a quick lunch. The pack a soft flour tortilla with what ever you want and it is delicious! Our fam has been hitting TTs for years and we consider it a regular spot when we are skiing or hiking for the day. I love tacos. Tex Mex, authentic, homemade, soft, crispy and even Taco Bell and it's vaguely taco-like food items. Burritos too, those pillowy, chewy tubes of meat, cheese and rice agree with me better than anything on this planet. So in my recent travels, stumbling across a Taco's Tacos seemed to be fate. As I entered the small place the siren smell (like a song heard by my nose) of taco seasoning made my mouth water. I was with my girlfriend, a deeper aficionado of tacos than even I and even she seemed entranced. It had all the counterculture aesthetic of some of our favorite snack food eateries including a soda machine so covered by stickers one wondered if there were any metal casing or if they'd simply gone the proper punk route and done a DIY project. The menu was basic. Tacos, burritos, nachos with beef, chicken or veggies. We each ordered two tacos, one beef one chicken, and waited. The dining room had the old vinyl tablecloths of my grandmother's house, complete with typical print more suited to Italian dining on them. I accepted it's kitschy nature and almost liked it in it's haphazard style. Our tacos arrived after a short wait, crunchy shells, meat, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Nothing impressive or extraordinary, just a taco, pure and simple. They even had that dynamite smell. One bite though and the mirage created by the noses was broken. What we smelled had not reached our shells. What did make it was dry, unseasoned meats. Our hearts sank. Such a cool little place in this town, how could they fail at cooking two things they actually cook there, beef and chicken. We dealt by drowning it in hot sauce, Cholula which is our favorite, and left saddened for the road. So what was learned? Smell can be deceiving, tacos can be a let down on rare occasions and if you happen to be near this place only stop if your need for a taco can be buoyed by your love for stickers. read more

You can do better in Ludlow. The taco's and burritos are okay, nothing special. I felt like I could have thrown them together in my own kitchen, and my cooking skills are pretty deficient. They were just veggies, meat and cheese tossed and rolled in whichever size wrap you order. Maybe they forgot to season everything that morning, but by reading the other reviews, I doubt it. Also, I think it came to something like $15-20 per person, which is outrageous for what we ordered. In a town full of funky mom & pop restaurants, there's more flavor to be had. read more

Tacos Tacos? Yeah, I know it. I' ve been making special trips to vermont for about a decade and a half just to come here. And, we have a standing order to bring back burritos for the friends that couldn't make it. Some of the most famous chefs eat their "favorite" burgers by the sack full at fast food places. Why, because it hits the spot and brings back the nostalgia. Despite, some of the other posts within, the food here is made fresh daily and they are steaming tortillas - not heating stuff up in ovens. Yes, the nacho cheese is canned. and I have yet to find a nice hunk or wheel of nacho cheese at my local artisan cheese shop. They aren't melting Cabot over the tortillas just because they are in Vermont - and that's just awesome. Who suggested shredding chicken and frying tacos meat to order for the masses? You'll miss the point of this place completely. This IS a now frills taco stand that also provides some indoor seating, AC, and a bathroom. Now, you gotta try the chicken nachos. Or the everything nachos. Or any burrito... I actually only order a taco at T2 on rare occasions. You can expect foil wrapped/lined deliciousness in cardboard trays on your way to a warm tummy.
