Fresh made pupusas that were to die for! I woke up in the middle of the night dreaming about them will be back for more

Have been coming here on and off since about 2008, when I used to work in the area. The surroundings have changed quite a bit over the years but Tacos Y Pupusas has stood the test of time and is still going so far. Located in a small plaza, parking is usually not a problem. Seating inside can be at times since there aren't that many tables. The food always tastes freshly made and homemade with some dishes visible in a hot counter up front and other pupusas, tacos, and dishes on the menu as well. Highly recommended to get any plate as it will then come with the thick tortillas, one of the best things on the menu here. read more

Atopped by to have some lunch. I was craving tacos and pupusas and this place sounded great. Went in and looked over the menu. The tacos seemed great so we ordered a few with some pupusas to fill us up. We got some horchatas as well. The food came out pretty fast. We were waiting for our horchatas a little long until we realized that we could grab them from the fridge. The al pastor tacos were good but needed a bit more pineapple. The bisteck tacos were nicely cooked. The pupusas had a good amount of meat but i was not fond of the beans as much. The horchatas were sweet but tasted too sugary than a normal horchata. Stopped by here on a Friday night with my partner because we were craving something quick to eat but filling. We found Tacos Y Pupusas on yelp and decided to give it a try since it was about 9:30p and most places were closed. I was pretty satisfied with their pupusas, we ordered 3 of the chicharron pupusas and 2 of the chorizo/bean pupusas. The food was great, but the food came out to us wrapped and not labeled, so it was a bit tricky to figure out what was what. We also got Sangria and Jarritos to drink with our food! Was looking to fill a tacos and pupusas craving during our trip to California from the far coast, and Tacos y Pupusas delivered. Tacos y Pupusas plants itself in an ideal location along Katella Avenue (well within walking range of the Disney Land Resort theme parks and properties) right before the off and on-ramps to the I-5 Freeway. As others have said, it is very unassuming, blending in with the other stores that it shares the small plaza with so it becomes quite easy to miss and pass as you're walking by. Being open by 6:00am, Tacos y Pupusas provides breakfast offerings to both locals and visitors hoping to get a meal in before getting into parks. It's a refreshing option amongst the usual Denny's and iHOP that are open and available during those similar hours. The food was made to order, and I was able to request breakfast burritos which were not on the menu. The cook was incredibly friendly and helpful; she was quick with the order and sent me happily away with the meal in short time. I walked here from the convention center area, and the food was wrapped so well that the heat was trapped and sealed in such that it was still piping hot by the time I got back to the hotel. The breakfast burritos were amazing; the flavor of the burrito alone didn't call for either the salsa picante or salsa verde. The balance between all the ingredients in the burrito was perfect with each bite, making it a satisfying breakfast meal. I paid 15 bucks with tip for an extra meat burrito and not only was it the smallest $15 burrito I've ever ordered. It was probably the worst quality steak I've eaten in a minute so much fat that was not chewable and the actual parts that were meat We're also just as hard. Now the food--listen, I ordered the jalapeño and cheese pupusa, and it was like a warm hug with just the right amount of kick. Not "call the fire department" spicy, but enough to make me feel like my taste buds signed a waiver. Pair it with the green sauce and that tangy cabbage on top? That's basically the Avengers assembling on a tortilla. Then came the Carne Asada pupusa. Oh. My. Pupusa. If the jalapeño one was great, this one was straight-up the sequel that actually outdid the original. Worst food place I've ever been two for take out. The service was horrible. The lady had a slight grumpy attitude. I gave this place 3 chances to prove me wrong that it was just some rushed thing but no. The fist two times I ordered some Popusas to go and when it came to my lunch. I realized I was eating more flour dough than stuffing. 3rd time I ordered their pork with cactus on green sauce and when I tell you. I've never been so disappointed in my life for the process I assumed they might give more food. Instead I was served a spoon of rice and beans with 4 small pieces of pork. The size of an ice cubes! I grew with El Salvadorian friends asa child and to this day every Sunday his family gets together to make homemade pupusas; and that's what this place reminded me of. Fresh homemade food. It's a small place and you can see them making and grilling them on the spot. The guy working told me that it was going to be a wait for the food because they were busy and apologized. Wanted to try the pizza place next to this place but it looked closed. So...was it an opportunity or a FUBR situation. On the outside, this place looks shady. but i am not here for the ambience- just good food. I ordered a carnitas burrito. It was filled with very fluffy flavored rice, tasty refried beans, some nice pieces of carnitas, and topped w/cilantro and onions. Not a bad burrito. kinda small for the price and needed an additional helping of carnitas. But it was satisfying. The best salsa though- finally, when someone ask for spicy salsa, the red sauce here delivered. Why not additional stars? The clerk charged a total of $13.39. But the burrito cost on the menu was $10.50. The total should have been around $11.50. I guess he added his tip? Did prices go up and they haven't reprinted their menus? I can eat. But I couldn't finish 3 pupusas. For flavor I'd honestly give it a 6 ...... there was like 3 tiny pieces of chicharron in each pupusa, so it was lacking that saltiness ... Not only are they made fresh when ordered, but they are not stingy when it comes to the flavor/fillings. They are about $2.75 each and they come out piping hot.
