I had been riding my tri bike and using it for various triathlons for quite some time. I had previously had the bike "fitted" at a bike store and didn't really think much about bike fit again. I completed a half Ironman distance triathlon and noticed pain in my neck, feet and seat. My feet felt like they were on fire after the bike ride and I really struggled with the run portion of the race. After that race, a few friends recommended Tad Hughes Custom Fit Studio. I was immediately impressed by all the technology and equipment when I entered the studio. He set my bike up on the trainer and video recorded me as I pedaled. He thoroughly explained the process to me and pointed out things that he noticed in the video. He made a few suggested adjustments and I noticed a difference immediately. My pedal stroke was more efficient and I felt less pressure on my neck and shoulders. He measured my flexibility and added insoles to my cycling shoes as well. After all of the adjustments, he recorded me pedaling on the bike and did a before and after, side by side comparison and explained the differences. I don't normally write reviews on here but I wanted to give Tad the props he deserves. I bought my road bike about 4.5 years ago and had gotten "fitted" on it at the bike shop I bought it at. After riding for a year I hoped a better fit could help some neck pain I was experiencing on long rides. Tad first video fitted me in 2012 and the results were immediate -- the neck pain I was experiencing decreased dramatically and my pedal stroke felt much more efficient overall. I could see a world of difference just by looking at the before and after photos he provided, and I definitely felt the difference on my rides. I had been frustrated with riding but got re-addicted to road biking after feeling the difference. In 2014 I signed up to do a 545mile ride from San Francisco to LA and knew I should get re-fitted beforehand to ensure I was as comfortable as possible on the ride. I'm so glad I did! He now offers saddle pressure mapping that makes sure you are evenly distributed across the saddle. I was pretty shocked by how well I did and how comfortable I was on my bike for the entire 7-day, 545 mile ride (especially compared to the other riders). I have been racing road bikes for years, but never was professionally fitted for a bike. This year I decided to start participating in Triathlons. Knowing the fit of a tri bike would be different, a buddy of mine suggested that I go to Tad for a new bike fit prior to purchasing a bike. Tad's fitting was excellent. It was extremely detailed and very helpful. After the fitting Tad and I discussed my budget and he made a list of several bikes that he felt would fit me the best. After I purchase the bike I went back to Tad for a final fitting and I can honestly tell you that I am so comfortable riding this bike. Tad fit it to me so well that I have none of the aches and pains that some beginning triathletes sometimes have. I plan on going back to him at the beginning of each season to have him to check my fit and make any adjustments that might be needed. I would not hesitate to recommend going to Tad for a fitting. I know many bike shops say that they can fit you, but it cannot imagine it would compare to a fitting by Tad. Another great experience. This was my second fitting with Tad. My first was to get my tri-bike, Cervelo P3, ready for IMTX last year. I was experiencing knee pain after a couple of hours riding. Tad made the adjustments and pain was gone. Can't put a price on that! This time I went in for my road bike, a Canondale Supersix. After all my years of riding, I really thought that I had a good idea of how this bike needed to be set up. In fact, I only made this appointment to double check that my self-fit was good...to get some piece of mind. After 20 minutes of reviewing my goals, he completely changed the setup. Blew my mind. Raise the seat here, extend the stem there, add some shims here. He changed everything. Not gonna lie, my first ride was really painful as my body was adjusting to the new angles! No worries though - it will get easier and I'll be in a stronger position because of it. $200 might be a lot for some people, but it's a bargain in my mind. My friend insisted I see Tad when I started riding and was having neck and back pain, hand numbness, and overall just not feeling great on long rides. One visit with Tad and everything was perfect! I went back after I got new shoes and again the following year for a tune-up. Each time it was money very well spent. This is the best money you'll ever spend as a cyclist and Tad Hughes Custom Fit Studio is the best there is! The 'fit' is detailed and thorough from your posture and position on the saddle to the angle your shoes meet the pedals! The purpose of my fit was injury avoidance and I got that and more. I did this 6 months ago and since then I've been injury free, no more shoulder and knee pain after modest rides! A better riding position did that but it also optimized my effort and efficiency on the move. I can train longer, push harder and cover greater distance with ease. When I purchased my road bike in late 2015, I was fitted by the bike shop I bought it from. It was a quick fit and I really didn't know what to expect (first bike in years). After a few months of short moderate rides, my knees began hurting. After doing some research and asking around I was referred to Tad. just a review of the process with Tad. i was in the market for a bike, so went to him initially for his recommendation on frame size. with that in hand, i bought my bike and scheduled the fit session with Tad. Session was just what i thought it would be, precise and no rush for time. Tad, in my opinion, asked all the proper questions and completed the session with a written description of all the needed metrics. When i bought my bike (Bianchi Infinito from Daniel Boone's), i handed them the fit summary from Tad. the guy's eyes got big when he saw the detail. I am not a professional racer. I am what I like to cal a "comfort" rider. I ride with a group of friends on the weekends for about 35-45 miles. I have been plagued by a knee pain that would start at about mile 25 and gradually get worse. My feet would start burning at about 40. I had tried the local bike shop for a re-fit. It really didn't help. I had a few friends that had gone to Tad and sang his praises. So I thought Id give him a try. OMG! My knee pain and hot foot are gone. I bought a road bike 3 years ago at a local bike shop. They measured me and set the bike up for me. It just didn't feel right so I took it to Tad. Three minutes in he identified the bike shop had sold me a bike that was too small for me! Tad suggested I take the bike back and get the correct size. I have been on a bike for many years. I would usually just go with the fit the guy at the bike store provided with my bike purchase. I'm not a young fit triathlete, just old grandma with a deteriorating spine and nerve compression in my wrist issues. But I wasn't ready to give up my bike if it wasn't going to kill me. The docs took away my road bike (which was previously amazingly fitted by Tad) and I moved to a hybrid for more upright position. If I'm going to be medically permitted to ride at all I need a perfect fit that takes pressure off my back and hands.
