After a lot of walking during the Super Bowl shenanigans in SF, decided to have some good old Tad's steak. Didn't know they moved to a bigger place. Can fit a lot more than before that's for sure. Good, almost great! Dined as a party of four recently, but after the lunch hour and the dining room was relatively quiet. I like this new (to me) location - it's brighter and appears more spacious but I do think they cram in too many chairs for the tables so we had to do some rearranging to sit at our 4 top. The food is as good as ever and at reasonable prices for the portions served. The service is what keeps this review at just good rather than great. I was charged for an item I didn't order (a glass of milk?) and they forgot to give me my salad so I had to go after it. Nice and friendly staff, but not as attentive as expected. I would still recommend if you are around Union Square area looking for a solid meal. They do have something for everyone and the space is suited to accommodate large parties. I went for breakfast and the environment was pleasant and clean. You order at the counter and seat yourself. They give you a buzzer to alert you when your food is ready; however, the guy brought my food out to the table and just took the buzzer with him. The chicken fried steak with sausage gravy was good with hash browns, scrambled eggs, and toast. Coffee was excellent and comes with one free refill (ask for your receipt). It's pretty much self-serve but they will bus your table when you are done. I plan to return to try their steak before I head back home. It's good for solo diners. I paid around $26.60 for breakfast. While I expected that the prices would go up with inflation, at $32 plus tip for their famous steak dinner, this is no longer the bargain steak joint I grew up with. The steak itself was well cooked and It's still more affordable compared to the high end steakhouses so I'm not faulting them for the increase, it just makes me have to double guess myself on coming here often. While my friends ordered a rib eye and country fried steak, my eyes battled with my stomach and had to make a compromise. My eyes wanted steak and my gut won with the tuna melt and fries...and a paloma. My food was great, I took half the tuna melt home for a midnight snack. Until one day, my girl friend told me about their wings. I could never pass up the chance to try some good chicken wings. So, I've put my personal thoughts aside and decided to try their wings. Sure enough, they didn't disappoint! Super crunchy, well seasoned and adding jalapeños on top was truly the icing on the cake. I love and only eat spicy food. Tad's wing hit the spot! The wings are a tad bit (no pun intended heh heh heh) on the pricey side, but it's totally worth it! I've also tried their ribeye (forgot to take a pictures) and it was pretty good too.
