I stayed at the Pickwick Hotel right above this restaurant. The food was very good. I had the chicken parmesean and it was delicious. The ambiance was great. My only critique is I had to flag down the bartender each time I needed another drink even though I was 1 of 3 at the bar that night. Bar sits 10+. Personally, my experience is bartenders will approach me anytime my glass is empty. I want to emphasize the food was great. Quick service, great dinner. But I'm a stickler when I have to ask for another beer, when there are only 3 people at the bar. 4.5 stars

My cheeseburger was deliciousz I loved the bread and meat. Cooked perfectly. Service was fast. Perfect ambiance to celebrate a graduation in a low key dinner.

Food and service was amazing! Tiramisu is to die for! I failed to take photos of our meal, and only captured our dessert, but our meals were just as good as the dessert! Our server was so polite and attentive!

The restaurant was very nice and clean with an Italian vibe. We enjoyed this place and it was easy to get to and drop off from our uber. We did make a reservation too due to our party size.

Ambiance: It's next to a busy street. There is a lot of seating for big parties. Taste test: The gnocchi was fire and tasted really good. It was nice and creamy and cheesy. The chocolate cake was okay - it was a little on the dry side. But the other appetizers we got were great like the bruschetta.

Dishes are hit or miss. Great appetizers and desserts. But main entrees were average at best. Appetizers: 9/10 The bruschetta was delicious, with refreshing tomatoes and parmesan. Went well with the warm toasted pita bread and hummus. Would also recommend the calamari and red sauce. Entrees: 4/10 Dishes lacked flavor and seasoning. Salmon was bland and a little dry. Chicken and ravioli were also average. Dessert: 10/10 Tiramisu was the highlight of the night. The cake is so fluffy and light. It's soaked with rich coffee cream flavor.

This is my favorite bar in SF! The owner and staff are so nice. They always make sure everyone is taken care of! Their drinks are great! And this is one of the few places where you can actually get a green tea shot. The drinks aren't watered down, so you definitely get your money's worth :)

Really great Happy Hour! $8 lemon drops? Count me in! Can't beat those prices in the city. They also have really good appetizers. My favorite is the calamari. Perfect amount of breading with a nice marinara sauce. The bartenders are also really friendly! I love coming here after work to enjoy their specials and unwind after a long day of work. Pull up!

We went there during a big conference week so the place was packed which is totally fine. The service was slow but that's also somewhat understandable given the situation. The issue was the food. My very simple Pizza Margherita was a total fail. It was way overcooked to the point that the crust was totally inedible and I only ate the rest reluctantly because by that point I was starving. The cooks clearly noticed because they went through the effort of cutting a piece of the crust which was burnt (top left of the picture). The waiters didn't seem bothered by it either when I flagged it to them. They still charges their maximum tip by default. We tried a few appetizers - they were also uninspiring

Everything is as great as! The bar is full stocked and the food is very reasonable for a place that's downtown . Definitely check this place out if you near downtown area!

This place is inside the Pickwick Hotel on 5th street in downtown San Francisco. I used to do their happy hour which was quite nice . They have changed it but it's still beats most . They have carpaccio so I'm in . They have fried calamari , mussels a lots of items 6.50 house wine and beers . They also have a pretty good regular menu and the happy hour runs till 7 if you are sitting in the bar area . They are practically wall to wall Television at the bar with so many sports it's great . It's a great little place good for groups or not . My only complaint was no x rare burgers so i have other options. The fellows are very kind and the food is really good . A great sports bar on all accounts. read more

I absolutely love this place. My classmates come here often since it's so close to our school. The customer service is great and we're always here for the happy hour menu. They've added some new menu items since I've last come here, and the beef carpaccio is my new favorite. Here are my food ratings: Calamari, 9/10 Wings, 9/10 Margherita Pizza, 8/10 Pepperoni & Sausage Pizza, 8/10 Beef Carpaccio, 10/10 - Maybe I just love any beef carpaccio but the beef with red onions + capers and more just really brighten up my day. My ratings factor in the price the food cost in addition to how yummy I personally think the food is. SF has a lot of restaurants with great high quality pizza, calamari, etc. but also with higher price points. I highly enjoy coming here to order off the happy hour menu because all of our food and drinks (beer + a shot) came out to only around $25 each for a group of six people. It's a great place to hang out with a group, and they have a nice bar inside with TV screens. Aiming to become a regular lol read more

I don't usually have very high expectations of hotel restaurants, but a few friends and I were staying at the Pickwick for a concert and needed a quick bite before we went out. We were overwhelmed by nearby options, and decided to just eat at the in-house restaurant because making a decision was too difficult. It was a Saturday night around 7pm so we expected it to be busy, but it wasn't at all. We were promptly greeted by a staff member when we arrived, and within 3 minutes we were seated with drinks in front of us. Service was excellent. All staff members we encountered were incredible! The 3 of us ordered the fried calamari and crab cake appetizers. The calamari was absolutely divine. It was fresh, the breading was light and crispy, the tartar and cocktail sauces tasted like they were house-made, we all fought over the last bite! The crab cake was just that....one crab cake. That kind of surprises us. For the price, we expected 2 or 3, however, what we did get was excellent. We all called it the best crab cake we have had so far. For entrees, we each got something different and shared a bit with each other. I got the chicken penne ala vodka sauce. The chicken melted in my mouth, the sauce was incredibly rich and flavorful, and the pasta was perfectly al dente. My friends got the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce and the steak with garlic veggies. Both dishes were also top-notch. Everyone was very satisfied with their meal and we all left happy! We would have had dessert, but we filled up too soon. The atmosphere was quiet, and we enjoyed that we were able to enjoy a nice discussion over dinner. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Cool spot that's part neighborhood, part tourist, and part downtown work crowd. Great happy hour, really nice staff, solid food. I love the hummus! My kids love the pizza. They really aim to please which is appreciated in this time when most servers are staring at their phones and you can't get their attention. Not at SOMA! They will even guide you to fun spots in the area. Met the owner the very nice and energetic! read more

We came during GDC week and the place was packed. It seemed there were two servers, one busser, and one bartender working for a full restaurant, and the service was still amazing! The server/host knew the menu well and adjusted dishes on the menu to accommodate my gluten intolerance. One dish was brought to the table with bread on it, and the server ran to the table and corrected the dish quickly which I appreciate. I had the Chicken Picatta with veggies and the mussels. Both were good and filling, but slightly off from similar dishes I've had at other restaurants. The flavors were different than what I was expecting, but nonetheless still good. The restaurant was clean and compact, but still with enough room to sit and not too loud to where you can still talk. We came here because we heard good things and it did not disappoint. read more

I came here for Barry Can't Swim which was amazing! I loved the ambiance of this place and how they had hard kombuchas. This place had two dance floors which was pretty cool and so many plants! I loved the dance floor in the bottom floor. Great place and cute bar, I loved the crowd and how homey it felt. read more

It was a rainy night- the first real downpour of the season. Roads where flooded and there were downed tree branches in the street- it was chaos. But we were hungry! We braved the storm to meet our friends downtown who were staying at the Marquis; which does not have an open restaurant inside on that Sunday evening. We walked here and have a wonderful evening of drinks, food, and fun. The ambiance- casual and comfortable. Dim lighting and cozy booths, we sat at the middle of the restaurant with lots of room around us to spare since most people, presumably, where hiding from the weather. And good thing too because my crew was lively! We may have disturbed other diners had there been more than just a few tables, who seemed to enjoy our table as entertainment ( I hope!) The other side of the room is the bar and bar seating- very lovely and would return for a cocktail sometime. The bathroom is through the Hotel that is above the restaurant- just ask for directions. The staff was very accommodating and provided all random requests we had like my food restrictions and another's off the menu-creative-drink order. The food came out in appropriate time and all of it was very good- we ate it all! Cocktails were re-ordered and the waitress let us taste the bottle of wine we ordered to ensure we liked it. That should always happen but you'd be surprised and I appreciate that. Loved the dinner, loved the wine, loved the place. Will be back. read more

Stopped in here twice during our six day stay in San Francisco. Once for drinks while we waited for our hotel room to be ready for check-in. The second time for dinner and drinks. All drinks were on point. For dinner, I had the chicken kebab. Tasty, but I found it a bit dry. My other half had the salmon and my buddy had a burger. No complaints from either of them. read more

This restaurant was steps away from our hotel and we were in the mood for cocktails and a small bite to eat before starting our evening on the town. I made reservations, but it wasn't necessary. We arrived an hour early and there were plenty of open tables. Staff was extremely welcoming and very friendly. We started off with beer, then it progressed quickly to G&T's and Mojitos. I don't usually care for mojitos, but Basil changed that. They were delicious and refreshing. We did manage to get some food in us while Basil kept the drinks flowing. The service was great and the servers were kind and attentive. The food was ok... clearly frozen appetizers but I'm not picky really. The wings didn't have sauce on them, they were completely plain wings with a side of ranch, which was odd. Just a heads up that they charge a mandatory 20% gratuity (we were a party of 3 people so I was surprised to see that, especially at 3pm, and us the only customers in the place) I honestly wouldn't recommend for the food, but for drinks & a convenient location if yr going to a museum or theater nearby, this place is good. 10 of us arrived at 4:00 p.m. for an early dinner after going to Golden Gate Theatre. When we asked about happy hour, they said they canceled it because it was too busy. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE RESTAURANT! Seriously!! Several of us ordered the chicken parm and when the food arrived it was warm (not hot) and the mashed potatoes were cold. First off, who servs mashed potatoes with chicken parm! When I told the server the mashed potatoes were cold, he said sorry! Sorry! He didn't even offer to warm them up! Find another place to eat, if you want good food and pasta with your chicken parm. read more

Soma Restaurant & Bar is a little gem in the heart of downtown San Francisco. We offer authentic Mediterranean and Italian cuisine prepared only with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, there's always an opportunity for mouth-watering dishes to satisfy your hunger. We recommend the falafel wrap served with lettuce, tomato, onion, hummus, tahini sauce and your choice of mixed greens or fries. Try the Atlantic salmon stuffed with spinach and leek in a white bean ragout, lemon buerre blanc and vegetables. Lore's Wonderland escape room was a fun and delightfully whimsical experience. **This review is…read moremainly for the escape room, as we did not order any additional drinks outside of the escape room.** THE SPACE // Lore Speakeasy and Escape Room has cool themed decor everywhere, from the dimly-lit speakeasy/bar room in front, to the Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings-themed board game room, to the individual bathrooms, and of course the escape room's multiple Alice in Wonderland-themed rooms. Clearly a lot of effort went into building these rooms and evoking a certain vibe for each. THE ESCAPE ROOM // The puzzles in the escape room varied in difficulty - some required us to think a bit more, some required our observational skills to work harder, and others required a light level of physical skill/movement. We were perplexed a few times but never got stuck for too long, as the White Rabbit (played by Phoenix, the live actor/puzzle master) would jump in occasionally to provide clues over the speaker or in person. It took us about 1 hr 20 min to finish the entire escape room; I thought the pacing was good. THE [ESCAPE ROOM] DRINKS // Lore's escape room experience comes with "a flight of themed cocktails or mocktails, including "potion"-style drinks that are integrated into the experience as you progress", per the website. We got to choose one cocktail/mocktail option (Korean Cold Noodles) from a list on the website, and the other two drinks are pre-selected to supposedly fit into the Wonderland theme, with the flavors described online as "berry" and "peach". You can get both cocktail and mocktails for your party, in case some people want alcohol and others don't. We all enjoyed the flavor of the Korean Cold Noodles cocktail, which was refreshing and surprisingly a bit minty in the mocktail version. However, we didn't like the two other two pre-selected themed drinks as much. The "berry" drink gave us cherry cough syrup vibes, and the cocktail version of it was quite strong. The "peach" mocktail drink reminded me of canned fruit syrup; we also were missing the two cocktail versions, though we decided not to ask for them as the mocktail version already was less than impressive. One other missed expectation here was the size of the drinks that we received in the escape room. We were expecting full-sized cocktails, like what they serve in the speakeasy in front. Instead, we found out that the drinks are served in small "vials". Given the size of the drinks in the escape room, combined with us not even enjoying two out of the three drinks, I would preferred to go through the escape room without the drinks at all, and likely pay a bit less for the escape room then. OVERALL // I'd still recommend the escape room as a good one-time experience with a date/friends/family. Just don't expect too much from the included themed drinks! The speakeasy drinks on the main menu do sound unique/tasty, so I might come back again to try those sometime.

Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.

Trust me well worth it and you'll be hard pressed to pick your favorite.

I understand businesses can change their policies, and that's their prerogative. What disappointed me was the way it was communicated. As a longtime, loyal customer, the interaction felt unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming rather than customer-focused. It's unfortunate because I've recommended this bar to many people over the years, but after today's experience, it doesn't feel like the same place.

Came to this restaurant on a whim. My expectations weren't too high because really just looking for a burger or small snack to eat. Wow!!! What an experience we got! Not only did we order a burger but the best seafood linguine and short rib brick oven pizza that we have ever had. When talking with our waiter and complementing our entire meal he let us know that everything is handmade and made to order. That meant the linguine noodles were fresh and handmade, the pizza dough made fresh to order and the hamburger made fresh too. Omg!!! And to top it off we were treated with a bowl of fresh fruit to have something sweet after. We truly felt as if we were visiting a relatives home and were treated as guests.
