    Tonkotsu Ramen
    Jill G.

3.75 stars for food 1 star for service Came with my son around 4pm - no other guests were in the restaurant. Immediately, the place was really cold and I was worried about whether we'd have a comfortable experience but sat down anyway. The server had zero motivation to be there. Walked slow, attended slow. Didn't offer any suggestions, didn't ask if we'd been there before. I had to ask him to remove the additional EMPTY and DIRTY dishes off the table so we could make room for our entrees. I wish I tipped less because the service was simply taking the food from the window and ushering it our table. That's about it. The food was good and satisfied my ramen cravings. I was hugely disappointed by the fried enoki mushrooms that other reviewers raved about. It was mostly mushy and tough, not crispy and light despite its look. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen without veggies (lol I know I know) and added corn. The BEST THING about this ramen was the CHA SHU! It was deliciously flame grilled and the flavor was DELICIOUS. The broth was creamy and noodles slightly firm. No complaints here. My son had the chicken karaage bowl and we had to ask for the mayo because they didn't garnish the dish with it at all when it came to the table. This place is small. Service is non existent (at least when I came). And pretty pricey. My one cup of tea and my son's ramune were $5/EACH! 2 non-alcoholic drinks, 1 appetizer, 1 ramen and 1 karaage bowl set me back over $70. Come for the food, not the service, and level set expectations.

A solid bowl of ramen for when I'm not up for the long drive to the city or Santa Clara. Intimate and cozy ramen shop along a busy street in Oakland that has plenty of parking if you're willing to be patient and walk 0.1 miles down the street. The chef is a Japanese woman, and each order was freshly made with a fair wait. The gyoza was one of the best I've had- crispy but not burnt, full of flavor. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and made it spicy- next time, I will skip the spice. The delicate broth was made bland when paired with the spice that they used. My dining partner's broth was delicious, though. The noodles, veggies, and pork were all the perfect proportions. I prefer a fattier chashu, but it was smoky and delicious. The egg was a little runny, but that's how I prefer for my ramen bowl!

My favorite place near Lake Merritt! It is never very crowded. I love grilled corn, deep fried chicken and tempura and beef over rice. Recently they have a new dry ramen which tastes great as well.

Lots of street parking around the area! Came here on a Sunday night around 7PM and we were seated quickly. I like the decor around the restaurant with the wall art with cats :) We ordered enoki fries to share and it was my favorite. Very unique 5/5. I ordered the tonkatsu (broth was creamy) and my friends got the tantanmen! For the tantanmen, the spice gradually builds but we also got the spice ball on the side! We came at a good time because it got busy afterwards. I wouldn't say service is the best. It is hard to flag down the waiter but I like that the food did come out fast.

Enoki & Bacon skewers are the best, a must have. Tonkotsu ramen is flavorful and hearty. Karaage curry bowl came out piping hot with a bit helping of seasoned karaage, very delicious. Attentive staff, always a good experience visiting. Awesome ambiance as well.

Loved that they had vegan ramen :) so creamy and tasty. Fast friendly service. Cozy and tight sitting spaces. Thoroughly enjoyed the mochi bacon. The yummy tadamen was huge in portion for me! Enough for breakfast, lunch and dinner portions for me. Thank you!

    Tonkotsu Ramen

Food was so good! I just moved from SF and have been to spots like Marufuku Ramen and Hinodeya Ramen Bar, and this place definitely compares. I got the Tonkotsu and the grilled pork was delicious, super flavorful with a nice char on the edges. Had that nice grilled flavor. I got the spicy on the side since I wasn't sure about the heat level, and ended up using about 3/4 of it. It paired really well with the broth, which was rich and full of flavor. The yakitori was also really good. I tried the king oyster and the chicken thigh, and everything was cooked perfectly. I finished everything. The atmosphere is great, the art and menu are really fun, and the service was super friendly. Really excited to have this as my go-to ramen spot. Definitely bringing friends and family here when they visit.

First time trying this place and got the order through the DoorDash. The food came out still pretty warm and fresh. Will do this in rotation beside Marufuku when I have the craving for some ramen. I like something spicy so i would recommend their Tantan Men.

My first time trying Tada Ramen via DoorDash. I ordered the karaage curry and the chicken came so crispy, even after the delivery ride. The chicken was well seasoned and well portioned. The curry came on the side to ensure the chicken stayed crispy. It was great overall, the curry lacked seasoning in my opinion, but I'd order the karaage plate again!

    Lacee E.

The ramen was authentic and the menu had surprisingly good vegetarian and vegan options, which I really appreciated. The flavors were solid and the ingredients tasted fresh. That said, it just wasn't worth the long wait. For the time spent in line, I expected a bit more overall.

Parking is a little rough cause it's all paid street and scarce but I still wish I could come here everyday to eat the :::::bacon wrapped grilled mochi:::: yummers. Everything else was good too but this is what keeps me wanting to come out here. It's a small place but we came during happy hour so we got the deal for a bowl of ramen choice of bottled drinks and a mini app. The pumpkin croquette was perfectly fried, light n crisp. I think that was a special tho. Left super stuffed. Pretty fast service as we were in and out in under an hour.

The good: fresh, quality ingredients The bad: started with the host/wait list. I accidentally added my name twice for a solo diner. Host thought it was a mistake and completely removed me from the wait list and seated other parties that came in after me. Thoroughly confused - she didn't even call my name to confirm so I had to go up to her and ask. No apology either. Was seated at the counter where solo diners usually sit. Service was non existent. Server came up to me and ask "what would you like to order?" I've never been there before. No "hi my name is ... I'll be your server" nada. They're just a machine - people in people out. The ramen - broth was fine. The squiggly noodles aren't my favorite. Expected to have kernel corn but had corn ribs instead (good thing I'm good with chopsticks!) The charshu was just okay. Enoki topping was just ... aight. The nice touch was that they didn't put it in the ramen and served it on the side to preserve its crunchiness because it definitely needed the texture! It was loud, busy, and nothing spectacular about the dining scene here. $55 dollars later (ramen, 2 additional toppings, one box of sake) ... I sadly don't think it was worth it.

It was conveniently located across the street from the venue, and the unassuming outside of the restaurant did not hint at the amount of fun, ambiance, good food, and warm hospitality contained inside. First, there is the name. Not sure if it's some sort of play on words, secret joke, or if it's someone's actual name, but it works, kinda. It's kinda a restaurant, kinda a bar, kinda of a hangout, and kinda fun. The tiny entrance and plain facade reveals a bustling world of delicious food, tasty beverage, and lots of decorative eye candy to keep you looking around the space while you are hanging out with friends, on a date, or just relaxing after a long day. The decorations there are very upbeat, eclectic, fun, and distinctly Japanese pop culture. Posters, banners, flags, lanterns, toys, and trinkets can be found all over the restaurant, and made it fun to keep looking around and discover new novel things to look at. I did feel like I was in an authentic Izakaya somewhere in Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ebisu in Tokyo. The place had a lot of personality & personal flair in an otherwise, tiny & industrial small warehouse type space. Service was excellent. The host was the cute & personable Mina, who couldn't have been more accommodating, patient, friendly, and engaging. It was very busy, and even though it was our first time there, Mina made us feel welcome into their home and was also very helpful to guide us around their experience. The other staff were less engaging, but still professional, efficient, and polite. Service was quick, attentive, and friendly on all accounts, and they as a team, managed to serve an entire full house of hungry & happy patrons during the entire Saturday night dinner rush. Fun place with a good staff. We opted for Izakaya-type, shared small plates to satisfy our hunger cravings without getting too full and weighed down on big portions of heavy, rich foods. Everything on the long & expansive menu looked great, but we mostly stuck with small appetizers to sample & savor. It was nice that there were plenty of lighter, fresh vegetarian options as neither of us were really in the mood for seafood, fried food, or big heavy entrees. We ordered the Kinda Tofu, Kyuri sliced fresh cucumber salad, and Kinoko butter-grilled mushroom hot platter and washed it down with some green grape Jinro soju. Everything was pretty good! Not overly fried, greasy, salty, or seasoned. Lightly cooked, delicately glazed, with just enough seasoning & oil/sauce to make it taste good, but not end up too complicated or messy. The taste really came through using these minimal cooking & seasoning techniques. The taste of the original vegetables & tofu came through perfectly, and were only complimented by their light hints of adding flavor. Portion sizes were ample for two people, and presentation was appetizing and organized. The bill for 3 apps + 1 bottle of Soju was less than $50, so it was a good value for the fun experience & good food. Wait times during the dinner rush are long, and there isn't really anywhere to sit or stand, so reservations are recommended. You can also enter and go straight to the 10-seat bar if there are openings, but we got a table for two after around a 20-30 minute wait. After that, everything moves pretty quickly, from ordering, getting food & drinks, to wrapping up and getting your check. Perfect system if you're trying to get to a concert, movie, or appointment with a specific start time. I really liked this place, not Kinda, not Sorta, but Definitely, or Absolutely! Kinda Izakaya will always be our destination to eat & hang out next time we come back to Berkeley, it is a true gem of a Japanese Izakaya/light meal fare right in the heart of downtown Berkeley. It's fun, tasty, busy, and friendly. Small & cozy, yet also airy & comfortable.

Holy hell, it was easily the best chicken skewer I've ever had. I would honestly come back just to order multiple of these. I'm definitely curious to try the bacon-wrapped mochi at a future visit. The only downfall was that the kitchen was extremely backed up during our visit.
