It's shaved ice. When it's hot and you're craving some shaved ice - this is your spot. Service was quick - but we were the only people there so that was in our favor. Says it closes at 1030 online. Pull up, it's 8:50. There's a long line, probably like 10 people waiting. It turns 9pm and the girl working hands out the last shaved ice and then closes the window. We're all looking at each other like did they just close? A couple minutes later she opens the window and tells us sorry we're closed and closes the window. So rude. We were all in line before close time and we didn't get served. What a waste. read more

First time here. This building is on the corner of the Huber parking lot, and it has a walk up window for you to get your order. When I got there, there was no line...so the service was extremely fast for me. The menu is quite overwhelming. I definitely didn't look at all of the flavors and combinations they have because I honestly didn't feel like reading all of it. However, it's great that they offer so many! I asked the cashier what were the top sellers and she gave me a list of options. I then gave her particular flavors I loved, and she recommend Barbie Dreams (bubblegum and cotton candy mix), which was delicious. I got the regular size ($3.25). Other options include medium ($4) and large ($5). They were able to accept credit cards, which is a plus since I never carry cash! Can't wait to try more flavors! read more

The first time I tried this Tad's, the service was super inefficient and slow. It was a hot summer's night, and there appeared to be two people working. One would take the order while the other stood by idly, you'd pay, and then they would both start work on making that single order. After the order was complete, they would yell out the flavors, but people were not always quick at realizing that was their order that was ready or at remembering which flavors they had gotten, which would slow down the whole system even more. Once the order was picked up, the cycle would start again. I know this seems really overly critical and harsh of a shaved ice place, but I was not expecting to wait in line for over 15 minutes with maybe 6 people in front of me. One more small complaint. They should hose down the area around their building more frequently. It was super sticky and gross especially around the picnic tables and the order window. Once I got my shaved ice and wiped my shoes off in the grass, I really enjoyed it. The ice itself was great, and it had plenty of flavoring on it. read more

Went here with my daughters on a fun night out and received terrible service. We were so excited to get some shaved ice and instead received a sad looking cup of ice with three ants in it. Workers were very unprofessional and when we asked for new one because we had ants in ours, they made us pay for a new one. After we got our new shaved ice they asked us if we would like to add a tip. I know these girls probably get paid minimum wage but after receiving an ant in my snow cone I was very disappointed. Also when she was making it I didn't see her wearing any gloves. Our cup was very sticky and they are very stingy on the syrups. It would be nice if the workers were wearing something more appropriate, lots of cleavage. Go someone else. read more

We took our to a close park and had a lovely evening. Been here many times for some shaved ice since it has been sweltering hot this summer. This place is a little shack out in the parking lot of a Hy Vee, no indoor seating, just a walk up window. The first time you go it can be very overwhelming! They seriously have well over 100 flavors so you can get menu paralysis pretty easy. They only take cash and have 3 sizes: Perfect, small snowman, and um you mistakenly gave me a giant iceberg. My first time was over a year ago and I wasn't impressed because I ordered the wrong flavor. Once my daughter turned me on to Tiger's Blood (pina colada, strawberry, and cinnamon) I've been very pleased. The prices aren't bad ($2.25) for the perfect size. Yes the iceberg is like $4.50, but you are getting enough ice to reverse global warming....stop complaining. All in all a good place to take the family, sit outside, talk, and enjoy. read more

I'm sorry that others are hating so much on this little mom and pop joint situated in the west parking lot of HyVee on 135th. My first foray here was a good one, but I also wasn't expecting Baked Alaska in my cup. Like the name of the business implies, it's shaved ice covered in a syrup of your choice in a cup. It's going to be syruppy...it's syrup. Outside of just having ice in a cup, this might be the simplest dessert treat ever. Why are expectations so high? There are three sizes, much akin to like it, love it, and gotta have it. 3, 4, and 5 bucks for sizes aren't terrible and the largest size comes with a plastic collar for the more respectable ice heads. It's the perfect refreshment on a hot day with dozens of flavor combinations. I tried the "typhoon" which ended up looking like a Ninja Turtle but tasted great. Don't come with high expectations, it's just ice and sugar syrup, people. read more

Good... It's good shaved ice. Way better than that fraudulent gravel they sell at the Royals games. Plenty of flavors and reasonable prices. Decent service as well. Not so good... They only use regular cups unless you get a small, so it can get messy. They offer a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom for a dollar, but to get the ice cream by itself in a cup, it's the price of a small because the charge by the cup. The portions are small compared with Hokulia on College and Pflumm. I go here if I'm in a pinch and short on time or Hokulia is closed. read more

Maybe I just buy too many sno-cones at places like Kauffman. :) My dark cherry from Tad's was much MUCH better than most tourist trap type slushies. Tad's is a great little shaved ice place tucked into the parking lot of Hy Vee (great location right across from the baseball and soccer fields!) The have probably about 3 gajillion flavors, they load the ice with flavors (no bite goes un-yummified!!) and the service is always very nice! It makes a great cheap date spot or good place to grab a treat if you with the kids at the sports fields of Deanna Rose, definitely worth a try! read more

So, after $3.00 in bank fees later at First National's ATM (crazy in itself), I was back in track.
