I ordered a medium jerk chicken with rice and beans, extra veggies, and a soursop lime juice last night -- and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The food was *so salty* it was completely inedible. I tried different bites, thinking maybe I just hit a bad spot, but everything tasted the same. On top of that, the jerk chicken didn't even have a jerk flavor -- just salt. I really tried to push through because I didn't want to waste the \$20 I had just spent, but I had to toss the whole thing. I wouldn't even give it to my dogs. First time ordering from here and it beyond satisfied our cravings! Oxtail was super tender with very minimal fat. Barely any oil floating on top of its sauce. Addition of butter beans made this all the better as some preps of this do not add. Hubs had stewed chicken and it was flavorful and moist. Sides of cabbage and rice and beans did not disappoint. A bit pricey, but we surely received plenty of food. I'm in no way connoisseur of this cuisine, but it surely hit the spot for our first order here. Def will order from again! read more

Stopped by for take-out yesterday and was truly grateful I did. Family was visiting, so I got three orders of Curry Chicken and I had an order of Jerk Chicken. We all had rice & peas with cabbage and plantains. The food was absolutely delicious!!! My family repeatedly thanked me for choosing this restaurant. The jerk chicken is SO GOOD!!! It's spicy, as it should be. Rice and beans are delicious, moist and a slight coconut flavor. The cabbage was really good, not soggy at all like some other places. I had ordered their box of 10 patties and an ackee breakfast platter. $61 and some change. I never got my 10 beef patties AND I didn't get a refund for it. Ridiculous. I even called to ask what happened with my order and if I would get a refund, and they said they would issue it on their end and I'd have to wait a few days for it to clear. On impulse we stopped for a quick lunch while driving through town. Initially we wanted beef Pattie's but they were sold out at noon. So we opted for a meal. The menu is on a postcard. They have a nice selection however there were no prices listed on the postcard. We had jerk chicken with rice and peas with plantains and oxtail with rice and peas with cabbage and plantains. The food was well seasoned. They offer medium and large sizes as your choices. The medium was plenty for two people. I suggest you ask for the price before you order. It was a bit pricey for lunch. Although I was disappointed with the portion size of my first order, the exceptional customer service I received is the reason I will come back here again and again. I ordered a large oxtail dinner, but when I got home, I realized I'd been given the wrong item. I called the store, and the manager was very accommodating. It was too late to go back to the store, so he offered to rectify the problem the next time I returned. The manager followed through and was both kind and professional. A lesson in customer service, 3:15 pm 9/19/24. I waited 3.5 hours for the stew beef .Drove in from out of town. I've been there. b4 ,the beef delicious. I would come back for the cake alone. Curry goat had some tough pieces but the flavor was robust. Plantains were lightly baked? I loved how not oily it was, unlike some other places. I ordered food on doordash the food in total was 60.00 dollars first of all the food was priced very high but none the less still ordered. After waiting a an hour and a half the order was missing 4 items and 1 order that was beef which we are all vegan options. Then when I called the lady I spoke to was rude. I had to talk to the manager who was trying to rectify the situation but told me he was going to rectify and send me a whole new order the rice and beans were stale and so was the cod fritters. Additionally, I strongly recommend against ordering the large ackee & saltfish as you only get a tiny bit of it (about 1 cup) in one of the side dish compartments of the plastic container, one plantain cut in half in the other, and where the main dish should have been were a boiled potato and banana and three huge, rock hard dumplings! I ordered at 11:30 thru Grubhub (it was a pretty expensive meal) I wait a pretty long time for my order the owner, but I'm assuming called me (her name was Sandy) very very nice on the phone to let me know that the Mac & cheese wasn't quite ready that it would be a little while longer. She offered me a piece of cake or a drink. I asked in edition to the Mac and cheese? She said YES.. I was quite thankful so I didn't mind the wait. It had to be additional 20 mins (even the driver text me) So low and behold I received my order and No Mac & Cheese 16$ Mac and cheese which I was charged for. As well as the large oxtail which was $25 looked like a medium for sure. So of course I called the restaurant back to let her know what happened, she said she meant that the Mac & cheese wouldn't t be ready and have the cake instead ... oh and you know what I'll do I'll have them refund the Mac & cheese (of course you should've not charged me for it in the first place when you knew you didn't have it) I took a picture of the cake they sent (it's certainly not an even exchange for $16 Mac and cheese) very disappointed because the food was good. Tropics is a small restraunt ( around 5-7 tables?) located right in downtown bloomfield. The area is relatively safe and ahs an ihop and state street diner very close to it. Parking is side street and depending on the day can be hard to find. Service: Okay. You go upto the counter, order and sit anywhere. Food : Their rice and peas was pretty good- needed salt. Jerk chicken was really well done and tasted amazing- but it didnt really taste authentic. They have carrot juice and ting from what i recall. Cabbage salad was spiced with lemon juice vinegar sat and pepper. It was simple and somewhat refershing. The plantains were good too- a little too dry for my taste though. Food was priced reasonably for their portion ( lunch special : 3 pieces of chicken, and a heavy hand of rice and peas + cabbage salad) . They had a few slices of cake for dessert. Had to come here twice today. My wife wanted Jamaican food for lunch, so i yelped and found this place, and honestly, this place deserves at least 4 stars. I called them, placed my order, and in no time, I arrived and picked it up. I asked to see my order because it smelled so good. As I drove to deliver the food to my wife at work, I contemplated on pulling over, to eat half of it, but I held back diligently.
