Tagawa Gardens is a 30 min. drive from my house - other garden shops are closer. But Tagawa is so superior that it's worth every mile and minute. In this time of Covid 19 they are doing everything possible to keep customers safe from controlling the number of people inside to wide aisles and "one way traffic". This is my go-to nursery since moving to Denver. It's HUGE and always so much fun to walk around. You can easily spend a couple of hours here. Their plant selection is consistently wonderful, the layout is beautiful, and I've had incredible luck with everything I've bought from them. However, they are pricey (you get what you pay for though) and the service, while often friendly, is inconsistent as the staff can be a tad condescending at times. read more

My son did a virtual zoom call with Tagawa's Santa Claus today, and it was the most amazing call to watch!!! My son is almost ten years old and still believes in Santa, and after today I know he will continue believing. It was so easy to sign up for the call, it ran on time, I was able to record the call, and Santa was fantastic!!! I am a picky and critical shopper. So why do I give Tagawa 5-stars? It's easy. For over 20 years, Tagawa has consistently been my place to go to find the best quality and widest selection of plants and trees (and which are plants/trees that will grow and thrive in the Denver area); interact with the most professional, friendly, and competent sales force (even when I am just there to ask questions); and be a place where I always feel that the staff cares more about me and what I am trying to accomplish than making the sale. Whether it's designing a new flower bed, asking endless questions about planting, pruning, feeding, watering, soil, etc. or just taking a picture from a magazine and asking "can I do this?" -- everyone at Tagawa has a smile and is genuinely interested in helping me. But, perhaps the most important, I can trust them. They LISTEN to you and then work with you to understand and trade the best choices and options that meet your constraints (price, soil, location, etc.) , and personal preferences. I have some of the prettiest flower beds and landscaping in the entire neighborhood. Would never have been possible, without my Tagawa family. Just bought @ Tagawa 2 large clay pots the other day. The sales lady's attitude was snobbish and condensing to say the least. It felt like they're giving me a big favor by selling 2 damaged pots at a slightly reduced price. I asked for a wrapping paper of boxes to keep the pots intact. The sales gal gave us burlap bags, but did not warn about the smell. They must have kept a compost in these bags... Horrific smell is still lingering in my car. Not to mention that the sale price written in white permanent ink in large letters/numbers on these pots WOULD NOT COME OFF! So, all my visitors and passers by can see how much I paid for it. So much for the great Tagawa experience! read more

On May 22, we went to Tagawa as we have for the past 8 - 10 years and spent just shy of $300 as we usually do. Though it's an approximately 20 mile round trip, we have previously been pleased with the selection and quality of plants. Unfortunately, this year 2 identical coleus and 1 zinnia died while the plants next to them were thriving. I took pictures and the receipt back to the service desk, but was told that in order for any adjustment to be made I would have to bring in the actual dead plants. 20 miles to go back home to bring in dead plants? Easier to go to any one of the other local nurseries which are much closer. That's what I'll be doing in the future. Be forewarned. read more

Latest experience with employee Dakota was amazing. I've been visiting Tagawa Gardens for about 15 years for household plants, gardening, and gift certificates for family and friends. Prices are up there, so selection and customer service expectations should be elevated. Customer service has been hit or miss over the years - sometimes demeaning and bizarre behavior by some employees - but quality of plants has been very high. I highly recommend you request Dakota if you have any questions. This kid was incredible. Excellent advice, very knowledgeable, creative, and used way more energy helping my wife and I with our gardening plans. I don't always compliment (rarely do, actually!) but this experience with Dakota was so good that Tagawa deserves praise for employing this guy. Super duper. read more

I went to Tagawa Gardens on April 30th. I bought 165.00 worth of plants. I did not get a itemized receipt because their whole system went down because they were only taking credit transactions. Waited 30 min, then I got a "number" that is suppose to refer to a receipt. ??? The cashier really wasn't sure. And, according to the cashier the system goes "down all the time. Very frustrating" her words On May 1st I was planting two Coleus and they broke off while trying to get them out of the container. $20 wasted. I called three times and no one called be back. The operator told me they were not taking exchanges or returns. So, I'm out the 20 dollars. ???? DO NOT GO TO TAGAWA GARDENS. They sold and inferior product and will not let me return for a refund or an exchange. They basically stole my 20 dollars! They do not care about people or their customers. Go to Home Depot to buy your plants!!! read more

My family and I were so excited to come support a local Colorado business and purchase flowers from this beautiful garden center. We were immediately shocked and disappointed at the over reaching step taken by the company with their mask rules. They denied us entry because we would not put a mask on our four year old. My husband and I were willing to wear masks, and we were even willing to stick to the outdoor portion only. They still denied us entry. This is an extremely upsetting decision by the company to go beyond even the governor's own mandate. His mandate clearly states that children 9 and younger are NOT required to wear masks. It was an over 80 degree day in the hot sun. Oxygen is a God given and vital right to life. Extremely disappointed in their decision. Would have loved to support them with our money. However, until they change their requirements we will be shopping else where. read more

I was at first impressed with this place. Great selection and the plants are generally healthy. However, I have come to realize they will no longer enjoy any of my business. As an avid bonsai nut, I thought I would look at what they had to offer. The first time I went, one of the Chinese elms was badly infested with spider mites. I had to point out to an employee that this was the case. They obviously failed to check their bonsai stock often enough to notice how bad this thing was infected. Infestations like the one I speak of don't happen overnight. The second time I came in was to find some low nitrogen feed to harden my outdoor bonsai off for the winter. When I asked an employee if there was any fertilizer that would meet my needs, I was treated very poorly. She was adamant that I should not be fertilizing my conifer bonsai at all, and treated me as if I was some sort of idiot. Of course just ask any member of the Rocky Mountain bonsai society, a group of members who have grown bonsai for many years, and they will tell you that you do indeed need to fertilize your trees. This is Whether they are a Conifer or not. Of course I told her this, and tried to explain to her that in a bonsai medium there is very little to no nutrients for a tree to grow on. No matter, she knew that I was obviously an idiot and suggested I go talk to the arborist to get educated. This was a very bad experience, and I came out of the conversation feeling that not only my intelligence was insulted, but also the intelligence of every member of the bonsai community. I will not be coming back here. These people need to understand that they don't know better than every customer that comes through the door, and realize that they can learn from us too. But apparently her horticulture degree knows better than the hundreds of years of combined experience the caretakers of bonsai share. If you are in the market for bonsai, go to Bonsai Nursery Inc off of federal, S&S bonsai in Colorado Springs, or Colorado Bonsai limited on the west side of town. These three places employ men and women who are knowledgable in the art of bonsai, and will give you advice that is actually going to be good for your trees. I'm new to the area and purchased a home in dire need of landscaping. I've now used both Nick's and Tagawa multiple times, and I'll never go to Nick's again after multiple experiences of poor service. Tagawa, on the other hand, has always been incredibly helpful and friendly. My first visit there I was about to buy about $1000 worth of trees/plants when I happened to mention to an employee it was my first visit; they welcomed me and then kindly told me that the very next day everything I was buying would be on sale, and that perhaps I should wait. I was speechless. They didn't have to do that but it certainly won me over. Every visit since then has been good too. I've had expert help choosing the right trees, designing an overall landscape plan, and even laying out plans for beside my driveway right there on their floors to make sure it all looked good to me. I love that they also will store a copy of everything you buy (after you register for their customer card) so you don't have to worry about losing your receipt. Although I've never taken one of their free classes, they have many and I hear they are good. They have a fantastic rose selection, but I'm a cheap gardener(but I don't buy big box store garbage) and they are a little pricey until they go on sale. Looks like they have a great house and cacti/succulent plant section. They get 4 stars from me mainly for price. They are certainly more expensive than other garden centers. They have less unique plants than they used to, catering more to the unknowlegable suburban gardener that buys all the same things as their neighbors, I guess. I still visit hoping to find something I don't have but find myself rarely buying anything. I've never met anyone snarky there as they are all quiet friendly. But, I never go there on a weekend when they are plowed under by customers. See what I did there? Haha read more

LOVE this place!! It is my go-to garden center for heirloom vegetables, garden decor and personal gardening equipment like hats and gloves-their hat selection is bar none! Tagawa has it all! The place is enormous, and the variety of organic plants is amazing. It's fun just to walk around the greenhouse during high season and enjoy the lushness of it all. The garden, home decoration and gift selection beats anyplace else. Also, it is the only place I've seen markers for animal burials. The indoor house plant selection is the best in Metro-Denver. You can find pots, fairy garden supplies, small fountains-pretty much anything you could want. Customer service is also top notch. During the high season the place is filled with knowledgeable and helpful staff. If they don't know the answer, they'll find out for you. Classes are offered, too, so check their website to sign up. Summer months also bring sales of organic produce and locally produced drinks and honey. In short, if you're looking for a wide variety of garden supplies and plants, home decor and house plants, you will find it at Tagawa. It's worth the drive if you don't live in the area-plan on spending several hours soaking it all in. read more

I live pretty far away from this place, but the nurseries in my area never have anything interesting. I called earlier this morning to ask about a certain kind of succulent. Jayme answered the phone. She was very friendly and helpful. She told me she had some of what I was looking for and would be getting a shipment in today so I decided I'd stop by. When I got to the store, I was greeted by Dakota. He asked, "are you from (the city I live in)?" It seemed that Jayme set out a couple very nice succulents for me to look at. I was ecstatic. And both Jayme and Dakota seemed genuinely pleased by this. And Jayme was spot on too, because I bought both of those succulents. Everyone here is friendly. Tagawa is my favorite place to go in the Denver/metro area for gardening supplies. Along with the plants and such they have a lot of gifty things that any gardener would love in their home. The staff is simply wonderful! Everyone at Tagawa is more than willing to help you find anything in the store or answer any questions about your garden, what to plant when/where/why/how/etc. If you ask a question they're not sure of they will go out of their way to make sure they find a person or resource that has the answer. Tagawa has a full schedule of classes to attend on the weekends ranging from 'Container gardening 101' to 'soap making'. The folks giving the classes are extremely knowledgable on the topic and are a great resource for any gardening newbies or even the experienced green thumb. I love it here...maybe too much. Sometimes the boy and I day dream about what we would do if we had a shopping spree at Tagawa. I swear it is never ending. There are tons of trees and bushes outside and then piles and piles and piles of plants inside. The best part for me is all the non living stuff here.
