A great spot for margaritas and tacos! We really enjoyed the cheese dip for an appetizer as well as the fried ice cream for dessert.

You know we've been in the neighborhood for four years and hadn't tried this spot out. The verdict for us was that it made for a nice family dinner where everyone found something they liked. It's been around for a while, and almost has a small-town charm to it. The portions are plentiful, and nothing is super spicy as it's more of a crowd-pleaser, Tex-Mex kind of spot. That being said, we had: - Chips and salsa; salsa doesn't have a lot of kick but is flavorful. Chips are dry and saltless. -Guac for the table; this was very good and we all chowed down. -Chicken fajitas split between my wife and I; really good! Nice veggies, good quality chicken, flavorful and lots of food. -Sides of beans for the girls; my youngest enjoyed the chips and her black beans, my oldest tore through her refried beans, and made little tacos with the black beans and cheese. She also got a cheesy bean burrito off the kids menu where they forgot the beans, but she ate some of it. -Skinny margs for the grownups. Again in a nostalgic sort of way, we enjoyed being at a place where there are lots of other families, tons of chips ground up into the carpet as the dinner rush was fully underway, and they call out table numbers when they seat folks over a little microphone. Sometimes it's fun to go to the super trendy spots, and sometimes it's fun to feel like you walked into 1998 again and relive some old memories, even if this was our first time here.

    Chicken Queso Salad

I got this on a whim as a pickup order for lunch one day and was not disappointed! The Chicken Queso Salad was so good that I wanted more as soon as it was done. The lettuce was super fresh with great flavors from the peppers, tomatoes and cheese. Plus the shredded chicken was cooked perfectly. A little bit of the salsa mixed in added the perfect amount of heat and flavor to the mix. I also got some chips on the side which were good but could've been salted more in my opinion. Otherwise, the salad was the star of the show and definitely warranted a trip in person to get the full experience. I had heard good things about this place from people who have frequently gone there for years and it definitely lived up to the hype. Highly recommend!

    Chimichanga with jalp dip.

Chimichanga add jalapeño dip instead if red sauce, all rice/no beans, add guac and sour cream. Pitcher of margs. So fire, so much food. Yum yum yum in my tum

If you were looking for a Mexican restaurant in the Kansas City area, then you need to check out Jalapeños in the Brookside neighborhood! We started off with the jalapeño queso dip as well as some margaritas! He went with the tacos, and I went with the Santa Cruz entrée! We sat up at the bar, but there's plenty of tables and booths. We absolutely love the salsa at this spot, which is why we go so much! Check out jalapeños for your next night out!

Beef Tacos Chicken Flauta Jalapeño Dip Margarita

Jalapeños is great. They have so many good options that will satisfy anyone. I always start with a house margarita, rocks, salt. Simple, straightforward. It's just a tasty classic that pairs with the chips and salsa. You can get a jug to well sit keep that in your back pocket. Jalapeño dip is a must. Another classic that also goes by margarita dip/espinaca dip at other places but a consistent, solid pre dinner app. Monday's is bogo taco night and it's definitely worth it. I got the ground beef tacos. They're very similar to margaritas. These are stuffed with lots of meat and cheese, fresh lettuce and tomato. I also like the chicken flautas. Again, lots of meat and they come with a side of guac and sour cream. My other favorite is the pork tamales. They come with rice and beans and I always have leftovers.

Jalapeño queso was really good. Chicken flauta was dry and unseasoned along with the tostada. Ambiance was nice and proper though.

Now I couldn't dip in the au just because it was beef but I appreciate having the option. The Mexican rice was light and flavorful. I just took a swing at it, picked up a menu, and stood there. It took a while for somebody to acknowledge that I was there. The person who took my order was super involved, which is cool, but they needed some help, and the person who came by to help them seemed to be rather impatient, so that was one of the first things I noticed. They do bring your food out in a reasonable amount of time, delivered to your table. You have a number that attaches to a metal wand that they give to you. So the water station is set up in the back, you get your own water, but they were out of cups. They had a really cool aesthetic to it, with like the garage door where you can see all the downtown. The only problem was that the sun went down, and it started to get rather cold. Nobody ever closed the door, but I ordered the Asada fries. 3/5 heavy on the seasoning, but not so much on the flavor, it came across. It's kind of salty. I thought it would be different than what it was. The portion size was fine, and the green sauce that they offer you on the side really makes it better. Also ordered the CHORI queso dip lied on the chorizo for the portion size. The flavor was also a three out of five. The chip that they give you with it has a nice, good texture and reasonable seasoning. My wife had the mushroom Tinga tacos. She gave him four out of five. She really enjoyed them. The atmosphere is cool. The weights staff are really cool. I'd consider coming back on a Thursday. They have this cool thing that you can try new and upcoming dishes, and then they also have brunch, so I'm thinking about giving them a second shot. If you've never been, you should come and see what your opinion is, but really cool aesthetics and great views.

The food was done at the quoted time and was accurate. The one individual I encountered was friendly. The menu was very straightforward-tacos, burritos, and a few other items, all can be customized. I had to get an order of chips and queso. I really liked their queso. It had good flavor and wasn't overly spicy. The chips were fresh and held up to the queso nicely. I'm definitely probably alway going to order this when I go. I also tried a taco with carne asada. The tacos are the street variety but they are really good sized. They don't skimp on the meat. And the carne asada was really good. No gristle or gross bits. It was chopped finely and I'd definitely order it again. I also had to try a burrito. I tried the El pastor for that and added on all the toppings-cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. I also opted for extra meat because it was super cheap-like $1, so why not? Again, I was not disappointed. I did throw my burrito on the good 'ol George Foreman when I got home because they don't grill it at all and I wanted some grill marks on that tortilla. Otherwise, the el pastor was flavorful and tender and the toppings were all fresh. Per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I saved half of my burrito, but it was a welcome leftover meal the following day.
