They quickly varied issues with the thermocouple and thermopile. The tech had the parts on his truck and changed them out. Then he did a full on service and cleanup of everything. It now works and looks like new, all included in the flat rate repair. We did not have to pay anything up front. They sent us a bill by email for payment by credit card or check, trusting their customers to make payment. This is a refreshing approach to business in Truckee.

Jorge checked the vent from outside the house, explaining what he was seeing as he cleared out whatever he could find. Since that didn't fix the dryer issue, the dryer company sent out a (pretty lazy) service person, who took a brief look and said it was still the vent. Jorge offered to come back and take another look, even going down in the crawl space to disassemble and reassemble the dryer vent to see what else he could find. Nothing. It's actually the dryer that has a wonky sensor--thanks to Jorge's genial hard work, we now know this definitively. Thanks guys. Others didn't even bother to get on the roof. He thoroughly checked our cap and flashing, confirmed what was in good shape, and clearly explained what was needed to be fixed. We also had an added complication--our solar panels run right to the edge of the fireplace. Several companies refused to even consider the job unless we removed multiple panels (and none had even gone on the roof to look). Michael said it wasn't a problem, brought out scaffolding, and handled the job safely without requiring any panel removal. Within a week, he had a new chase manufactured and professionally installed. The craftsmanship, communication, and overall service were outstanding. He said he would get back in touch with an estimate shortly, but it's been over a week now and, after multiple attempts to follow up with him (and despite the fact that he was initially very good about following up with me when setting the estimate appointment), I haven't heard anything further. This seemed pretty unprofessional to me, so I looked up the NV license number he has listed on his business card and it turns out that his company and license number are not listed, which is a worrying sign. While he seemed to me like he knows what he's talking about with regard to rain gutters, and looks like he's operating out of a well-equipped truck, all of this has given me enough pause to move on and go with a different contractor.
