As a growing fan of boba/bubble tea, I've been wanting to try as many locations as possible to see what's out there. Today we stopped in Tai Chi in Tonawanda. It's a small store front but with surprising seating inside accompanied but racks of board games for customer use and semi-private booths with stacks of sketchbooks that patrons can use to jot down thoughts or sketch illustrations. The books are interesting to browse (beware of some adult humor though). The menu has an extensive variety of drink options with the ability to mix and match for some selections, as well as the choice of how much ice or sugar you want. We tried the honeydew milk tea with tapioca pearls and the matcha milk tea with red bean. The honeydew tea was absolutely delicious - crisp, refreshing, and with a beautiful bouquet fragrance. The tapioca was a little chewy compared to other cafes I've tried but still very good. The matcha was an experience. The flavor of the tea was good , although I personally prefer more matcha flavor. The red bean... it's something that takes some getting used to. It is actual red bean rather than pearls or jelly. The flavor combination is ok, the texture was a surprise. If returning to a flavor, I'd probably opt for the honeydew next time rather than the matcha. I'd recommend a stop if you're in the area. Especially if you're looking for somewhere to host a small group of friends - the board games and sketch books will be great for a group! read more

I'm a frequent customer and love bubble tea. The last time I came here, I was allowed to use my re-usable bubble tea tumbler. Today, I wasn't. I told the cashier last time they let me use it and that it HAD to be in their cup, no explanation on why. I also ordered a large and my tumbler is the size of a large by oz. As society is moving away from single use plastics, customers should have a right to use their own cup without any problem or questions. Bubble tea DOES NOT NEED TO BE IN THEIR CUP ONLY. Using your own reusable cup also saves the store in the cup expense. I understand that they have the machine Other bubble tea places around Buffalo have allowed me to bring my own bubble tea tumbler. As someone who cares about the environment and tries to reduce my plastic use, this is kind of upsetting to shake the tea, but they also have the other shakers. When I heard about Tai Chi Bubble Tea opening up I knew I had to check it out right away. They have a location in Rochester so I was excited to see what the new location has to offer. At first glance the interior is gorgeously decorated with sleek decor and real wooden panel wall. The interior had plenty of cozy booths and seatings that was very nicely done. There is a giant menu on the wall when you first walk in which was nice to see the variety of bubble tea they have. They also serve sushi burritos/rice bowls/salads for a food option. I wanted to try one of their "originals" so I went with the pudding milk tea which apparently is lactose free which was nice that the staff informed me of this since I was looking for something lactose free. I'm the pudding tea was so unique because of the chunks of pudding in it! Overall it was very delightful and something different from the other bubble tea restaurants. I also got a sushi burrito. The ordering process didn't quite have the kinks worked about but for now you pick which topping you want in it checked off on a paper (with a sign that says self serve kiosk to come). The variety of fillings and sauces is just great! They let you pick as many toppings as you want without feeling limited. I went this salmon inside and mainly chose mango toppings. The process of making the sushi burrito was really slow but I think this will get faster with time. Overall I think this place has some unique bubble tea offerings in addition to food. I feel like the other bubble tea places really lack in the food aspect and Tai Chi did this very well. Certainly a breath of fresh bubble tea air! A quick run with my son for a few weeks ago after shopping! Our son decided on a Taichi Burrito with shrimp, salmon, rice, black beans with Eel sauce! (imagine a HUGE Sushi roll from HELL but in a good way) Leo's jaw started to hurt from the chewing! He still said he would order it again! I've always had the salmon, seaweed, rice and spinach salad. Good portions were given and reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and patient with Leo when he asked a few questions about his order. We decided to eat and play a board game of Connect 4 ! WNY has a lot of great places to get sushi, but this is the only one I know where you can build a sushi burrito or poke bowl. You come in and fill out a sheet to tell them how you want your burrito, bowl or salad made. Whatever you chose starts at $8.99 for one protein, then goes up a dollar per additional protein up to three total proteins. Then you can select any number of additional toppings. I made my burrito a Philly roll with salmon, avocado, and cream cheese, but also spicy mayo, crispy noodles, and wasabi. The salmon and avocado were very fresh. They included just the right amount of cream cheese. The crispy noodles satisfied the desire for crunch. (Shamefully, I tend to favor unhealthy rolls deep fried in tempura batter, but this was a less unhealthy way of satisfying the same craving.) I could have done with a little more spicy mayo and wasabi. Only a couple bites really had any kick to them. I did not try the bubble tea. Maybe next time when I'm feeling braver and less overwhelmed. The booths are lovely. They are set into the plaza next to Greek to Me. The large windows offer a good amount of sunlight in. Seating consists of tall table near the windows, a sofa near the door, lounge chairs in sets of 4 and large booths. Walking head to your left where the line forms under the menu. I chose a strawberry milk tea with pearls and lychee bubbles! (.50 cents extra) Looking at the menu next to the register, a digital signs there are other boba options available. I love the coffee bubbles at a different place and I love lychee so see those options combined I had to give it a try. Coming off a lunch an hour or so earlier we didn't eat today but I'm willing to come back to try. They have a few options available including sushi. My go-to spot when I'm craving poke in Buffalo! This was one of the first poke spot to pop up in Buffalo. The shop has a few wooden booths giving you a cozy space for you and your friends to dine in or play their board games. Each booth has a notepad where you can doodle in. The poke bowl/burrito/salad is a make-your-own style with a lot of proteins, mix-ins and toppings option. Mark it on their paper menu and they'll handle the rest! Or just pick from their signature dishes! Price depends on # of proteins, so you can go all out on the toppings. Burritos get messy to eat as toppings fall out easily. Their salmon is tender and fresh and in decent-sized cubes. Rice is warm. I usually like to add cream cheese to my poke! Poke is super filling. I usually don't finish the whole bowl in one sitting. I don't usually order their drinks but I did tried their lemon yogurt juice which I thought was too sweet. Taste good but not the best I ever had. Found a new hidden gem! This boba place looks like a restaurant and log house mashed up together. They have cool booth seats along the right side of the store (good space for intimate conversations) and an open space with tables and board games. I can see this place being a fun place for groups or even a place to work/study. The lighting is on the darker side especially if you decide to sit in the booths. They have free wifi and outlets everywhere, so if you do decide to work/study here, they're ready for you! The menu is both in Chinese and English, and they have pictures too (just in case). My husband and I ordered a Matcha red bean tea and Thai iced tea. We originally ordered a Thai coffee, but they were out of it. Both were pretty good, but overall on the sweeter side. Hoo boy, I love it here. I'm a huge fan of bubble tea and have been meaning to try the stuff here for a while when, on a whim, I directed my husband to pull over and take me inside one fine day. Upon entering, you see a smiling cashier ready to take your order. I know they serve food, but since I did not try it, I cannot speak to its quality. However, the bubble tea itself is fantastic! The cashier was really helpful with explaining the menu to me. Once I finally decided on what I wanted, I ordered a peach bubble tea with passionfruit bursting boba. I was so happy with what I got. The mouth feel, the flavor, the juiciness...everything was so good! They allow you to order your bubble tea with a certain amount of sugar, including none at all. My diabetic father can really benefit from this, which I appreciate. They have fun games you can play at your tables and even private booths in case you want, well, privacy. Stopped in for lunch after a college tour at UB based on Yelp reviews. Totally excellent. We had two poke bowls and two ramen with miso and pork, plus my daughter had a boba with lychee juice. Everything was very tasty, fresh and hot. The poke bowls were more salad than typical bowls we have had everywhere, including in Hawaii. Bowl had small chunks of salmon and spicy tuna, eggs, carrots, seaweed, greens. Strange though it had chunks of cream cheese! Anyway, wife said beat ramen she has had in a long time. This places varies a little each time I go. Last time I went on a Friday night. It was very busy and they they had a huge line and the garbage cans were overflowing with garbage. But the times I have gone on a weekday for lunch have been more tame and clean. This place is quicker than a traditional restaurant if your in a hurry. This is basically the chipotle of sushi. I don't think you can order sushi rolls just the burrito and bowls. I like eating here because you feel good about that you just ate. It tastes healthy and fresh but the bowls are not lacking any flavor! If you order a bubble tea, that sugar bomb might ruin that feeling but you can request less sugar on the ordering card. I was discussing salad in the breakroom yesterday, and how people spend three bucks on the chintzy prepacked deli salads because it's too dang complicated to buy only enough of the ingredients to not wilt the leftovers in your fridge when not feeding a family of rabbit stomached guests. And while I'll admit to dipping a head of lettuce in dressing like an uncouth youth when the rabbit in me beckons, I am a glutton for a good salad bar. Now once upon a day that wasn't today, I dragged one of my favorite cuties to this place right as it opened, and after squeaking in delight at the bears chilling on the couch, I decided upon a salad bowl. The burrito was calling to me, "come hither, hungry child," but I have this disorder called Everything Falls Out Of My Burrito and Onto My Shirt, and I was not about to sacrifice my dignity in front of the forming line of young teenage girls and not so young business men for the sake of shoveling town a tunnel of rice and every possible topping my heart desired. Because they let you do that here. (The toppings thing, not sure on the dignity bit.) You take one of their papers and fill it out. Now I'm an anxious bundle at ordering, so being able to see it all in front of me and not be shouting over the glass (cough Subway end cough) that I want red onion, not white, and that there's too much sauce, I can plop a squat and let my brain tick way too many boxes. I've only ever done double protein, bc at a dollar more to indulge in real tuna and salmon when I'm too cheap to go beyond the canned stuff, is a delight. Though I'd suggest against the spicy salmon, as it is a paste in with the mixins instead of solid chunks. And with more mix-ins than my fingers can count, that's a lot to get lost in. I've gotten their sauce on the side, which is really the way to go, because if you've made a dump truck salad like me, you're going to need to separate all the goodies in your bundle. Which reminds me, be cautious with the sushi egg, because mine was minorly water logged last time I got one, and not all the goodies are as great as I'd like to paint this picture. Because for the most part, this place is amazeballs. My companion on my first visit bought a tea that set their standards high, only to be confirmed by a different companion on my return. I took a sip and kicked my legs excitedly, stubbing my toe, but too bliss struck in my tastebuds to care. Now this visit I'm reviewing, as third time is the charm, and I'm with a seasoned visitor who was filled with just as much excitement as I when I suggested our venture. We only got drinks, as I was salivating over the sound of a banana pudding tea, which held true to its name, and dazzled me so much that I had to restrain myself from slurping it down. (I may have overzalously stabbed the seal with my fat turquoise straw and caused a slight leak, so please practice more patience than me.) There are notebooks to read everyone's deepest thoughts. And by deepest thoughts, I clearly mean tic tac toe, phone numbers, and plenty of rated R pics and words muddleding the genuinely great art some of the guests have left behind. There's a muted tv with Russ Salvatore informercials hilarious enough to send boba up your nose. There's a thrift shop next door to waddle over to if you haven't stuffed yourself too full to try things on. But looking at the ingredients, you're not going to get left with a food hangover unless you've done something seriously wrong, as this stuff is quality, and worth the drop in. read more

I've been here once before with a friend and our kids, just for bubble tea. We really liked the vibe of Tai Chi for kids, with big booths, games, and community notebooks to doodle in, a fun space. So I wanted to get back eventually to try the food. So today my husband and I made it over to Tai Chi for lunch to try the build-your-own-salad bowls. For protein, I chose tofu and my husband picked spicy salmon. My husband had to dig around in his salad to discover they entirely forgot his salmon. So he brought it back up to the counter, and they quickly rectified the issue. The ingredients were fresh, with a decent amount of items to pick from. But my personal taste is I really like hard-boiled eggs and some cheese on my salads. Neither of those are an option here. So, as far as salad goes, I still prefer the choices at Core Life or Whole Foods. It didn't rock my world, but this was still a good salad, and priced decent at $8.99 for one protein and unlimited other toppings. I love, love, LOVE Tai Chi Bubble Tea! Their bubble tea is perfect! I've had many flavors! Honeydew, watermelon and strawberry banana. I don't really have a favorite, they're all yummy! I crave their boba milk tea! This is a genuine boba place. And by genuine I mean they have the machine that shrink wraps the plastic sheet on top of the cup (versus using a plastic smoothie lid). They actually use milk in their milk tea (some places use water). The consistency is perfect! Not too thick, not too thin. The tapioca pearls are perfect. The flavors are great and taste like what they're supposed to taste like. I also love their (customizable) rice bowls! I get the brown rice. Hubby tried the white rice. I tried his and it had a very strong vinegar taste. We don't recommend it. The French macaroons are good, but not my fave. I enjoy the ambiance and vibe. The bamboo style booths are awesome and add a fun vibe as well. They also have fruit tea, smoothies (you add boba too), Mochi and other items. You can customize how much sugar and ice you want in your drinks! Board games and plenty of space to hang out. Sometimes the music is too loud. Love their bubble tea! My favorite is taro smoothie with EXTRA bubbles! I LOVE TAPIOCA BALLS! My boyfriend prefers the green tea smoothie with red beans. Both are really good. It usually isn't that busy, so you can be in and out in about 5 minutes. Staff is pretty efficient. I haven't tried the food yet, but I've heard good things from friends. I keep finding myself here when I'm out this way, which is more often than not these days. I've never been obsessed with bubble tea but I feel like this place is making me develop an obsession. Honestly it's a combination between the tea and the sushi burritos. The tea is just so refreshing, and the burrito making is so much fun. It's actually a pretty good healthy alternative to most lunch other lunch spots, and they make it so quick and easy to serve here that it makes the drive all the more worthwhile. I almost came here when they had their grand opening, but you know how life goes. Human integrity and all that. Took me a while to finally come to this place too, but I'll make it clear now, this place is worth any wait, be it self-imposed or on a particularly busy day you may happen to stumble in. Tai Chi is tucked away in a shopping plaza, so it's super easy to miss this gem. The interior of the place, however, will easily pull you out of a semi-strip mall funk and into a cool, relaxed atmosphere with some of the simplest and most awesome food and bubble tea you can find in Buffalo! Like I mentioned before, the sushi burritos are my fave. You can pick from a variety of proteins, greens, and veggies to fill your wrap (or your bowl, if you prefer). I always get the spicy tuna with white rice and spinach, then a variety of different fillings, usually corn, mango, crunchy onion...I like to go a little nuts, like a kid who shouldn't be in charge of what they're having for dinner because they'll try to eat like, a ketchup sandwich or something (true story). As for the bubble tea, they've really got an awesome variety of milk and fruit teas, and all sorts of 'toppings' you can add, like pudding (I just found out about this one) and different flavored jelly, in addition to boba. They really cover a lot of variety, and the tea flavors I've tried have all been pretty fantastic all around. Tai Chi Bubble Tea is one of those "hip/trendy" eateries that you may find yourself unexpectedly fall in love with. Located at a strip mall, from the outside, it seems rather unassuming, rather a typical small take out place at a strip mall. However, one step inside, and the interior design immediately tells a different story: large plushy panda lounging on low trendy couch at the foyer, sleek modern line accentuated by wood and green lines everywhere, and of course, more panda plushies here and there, enough to accentuate the relaxed, fun, trendy atmosphere. Guests are welcome to either congegrate at the long table-bar stools setting at the window, lounge at one of the low armchair clusters, or relax at one of the roomy booths instead. (We also noticed during our last visit that there are shelves of books and board games with no price tags on them. We didn't get to utilize these, but it looks like these were made available for the patrons to use?) Tai Chi Bubble Tea's main offering for drinks are bubble teas - milk tea, fruit tea, frozen/smoothie form, hot - you name it, they probably have it, and in many different flavors. They also have various toppings besides tapioca balls: various fruit jelly (delicious!), various boba (interesting, still good), pudding, red bean... Or you can go without any topping if you prefer (my husband's default choice). You can also customize how much ice you want or how sweet you want hour drink to be. I've tried maybe six or seven different bubble tea from them, and I've never had one that I truly didn't like. Their tapioca pearls are also the best that I've had in Buffalo, I have to say. Their main food offering are sushi related - sushi burrito (my husband's and in-laws' go-to), sushi bowl, and salad bowl (like sushi bowl, but replace the rice with all the lovely greens). Whichever option you choose, you are free to add as many or as little ingredients, sauces, and toppings as you wish. The cost depends on how many types of protein you want added to your food item. Just fill out their food form and check all the boxes you want, and remember that the more boxes you mark, the larger your food portion may end up being! We had a lot of fun with these and noticed during each of our visits that their ingredients were consistently fresh and tasty. Besides bubble tea and sushi burrito/bowl/salad bowl, Tai Chi Bubble Tea also offers mochi, a few dessert items, water... But really, if you decide to give them a try, get their bubble tea and their sushi/salad. Those are great! Tl;dr: Even though this may seem like a place only for the young and trendy, it's really a great place for everyone. My family certainly loves it; when I first introduced this place to them, we ended going there five weekends in a row. Back when I was a student at UB, there seemed to be a bubble tea craze that swept through the Maple/Sheridan-Bailey part of town. My friends and I loved these cafes and went often. After a few years, they began closing, and nothing much was heard on bubble tea front for a while. Then Tai Chi popped up on Eggert and if the promise of bubble tea wasn't enough to loop me back in, the promise of sushi rice bowls was! My wife and I came in for lunch. I ordered and almond cold bubble tea, C ordered a mocha coconut smoothie. They were both delicious, but the smoothie was AMAZING. We also got rice bowls. She wasn't adventurous at all and stuck with chicken... I made mine into a legit open sushi roll and it was one of the best lunches I'd had in a long time!! The tuna and salmon were both great! Tai Chi is the kind of hangout my high school self would have loved after school, with its roomy booths, games and bubble tea. I still love it, though I wouldn't mind if they turned down the music a few notches. The hot taro with less sugar and tapioca pearls is an excellent choice for a cold day. I also tried some of my husband's hot honey ginger tea, also with less sugar, which was nice, but not as good as the hot taro. The consistency of the pearls is perfect: not too hard, not too mushy. You can also customize the amount of sugar and ice in your drinks. For food, I've had the sushi burrito and my husband the sushi rice bowl. I was pleased with the combo I requested: white rice, tofu, avocado, cucumber, radish, tamago (egg omelet), lettuce, fried garlic and spicy mayo. My husband didn't like his bowl as much, because he thought the mango sauce he chose was much too sweet, and made the whole bowl taste like a dessert, which was not what he was going for. He had also asked for spicy salmon, but didn't think it was spicy at all. But he would definitely get a bowl again, just not with mango sauce. I'm also thinking that asking for sauce on the side for the bowls is probably a good idea. In short: tasty food and beverages, plenty of space to hang out, and lots of stuffed pandas. Sister has been begging to go to this place and we adore sushi. Never had bubble tea so I wanted to try. I had a strawberry fruit black tea, with strawberry boba less ice and extra sugar. That was delicious. Boba takes getting used to and I probably wouldn't have it added again. She had a peach/mango smoothie with the tapioca bubbles. Not my thing but she loves it. As far as food I had the sushi burrito with white rice, spinach, crab, cucumbers, corn, black beans, and cream cheese. That was good but it wasn't very filling. I could probably eat 3 of them. I opted for the sweet Thai chili sauce which was sweet,tangy, and finished with a nice heat. I would probably get it as a bowl next time bc that's what my sister did and her lasted a lot longer. She had a white rice bowl with crab and shrimp, lettuce, tobiko, and spicy mayo on the side. It was everything she wanted it to be. This is my second time here! The environment is awesome and I would love to bring my book to read or study here! And it's a super nice place to hangout with friends or just enjoying some alone time. I like to build my own rice bowl! It's delicious and the price is nice as well. But about the bubble tea, I just think it is not really my taste, too sweet for me. :( I ordered two different bubble tea and ask for half sugar.. but each time it comes to me really sweet that I can not enjoy it. But I will definitely come again and agin, for it's great food and cozy environment, clean and quiet! Very recommend! read more

When I first heard about sushi burritos off the food trucks in Los Angeles, I thought that sounded a little iffy - raw fish from a truck? In the LA heat? No sir. Fast forward a few years, and we get this new Tai Chi Bubble Tea - a beautifully decorated fast food sushi bar that assembles your choice of a sushi burrito or bowl (aka poke bowl) the same way Chipotle, Subways or a Jimmy John's would assemble food. Add a large boba / bubble tea selection and you have a fun Asian eatery that is a less expensive and a faster alternative to a full blown sushi restaurant. There's a huge bubble tea menu that sort of stops you in your tracks at the register. I was impressed by all the combinations available and settled on a mango/green tea bubble tea. Like they do in Taiwan, the bubble tea is professionally served in a sealed to-go cup. Then, you take a slip of paper and choose your proteins and add-in's. Our 2-protein burritos were $9.99. Raw fish included salmon and tuna. If you're a little worried about trying raw fish, go for the bacon or chicken. There's quite a broad choice of proteins - vegetarian too. You choose white or brown sushi rice, choose as many add-in ingredients without extra charge, and get the entire affair wrapped in nori seaweed and served in a classy to-go box. Our burritos were tasty, well-made. The fish was good, the flavors of our add-in's were very authentic, so we were very pleased to be introduced to this nice alternative to a sushi restaurant. Had my first ever bubble tea experience here yesterday. My friend loves bubble tea and insisted I try it, and we ended up here. As a first timer, the options are overwhelming- there are so many choices! There are milk teas and fruit teas and smoothies. They are all served cold but can be ordered hot. They have tons of flavor options for both milk and fruit teas, as well as different topping options. You can also pick your amount of ice and your sweetness level. They also have black or green tea for all the fruit teas. My friend always orders the same thing, a lychee green tea with bubbles (the traditional tapioca pearls). I went with the recommended drink, kumquat and passionfruit green tea with bubbles. The fellow that took out ordered was awesome, I told him it was my first time and he gave the recommendation and told me the bubbles were the best part, I couldn't skip them. It was pretty busy inside, they have wooden booths with high walls that are very private and also several clusters of armchairs around little tables. We chose a booth. They also have board games to borrow while there and journals at the all the tables to peruse and make additions to. It took about ten minutes to get our drinks as they were busy. My tea was a little sour, but it was pleasant, just not something you can chug. The bubbles were very weird! Super....slimy? Squishy? You can chew and chew and chew and nothing happens! I would definitely go back, but I think I'll go for a milk tea next time. read more

I am so so happy that there's finally a place that serves Poké bowls (aka sushi bowls) and it's actually really good! Ordering can be a bit confusing though so the first thing you should do is pick up an ordering slip (for sushi burrito or rice/salad bowls only). You can order and pay right away. The price of the bowls depend on how many proteins you choose so you let them know at the register how many you'll want. Then you hand your slip to one of the people that will be making your order and they'll call your name once it's ready. You can literally choose all the toppings and sauces you want so it can be a really good or bad thing. I just moved to Buffalo and this place has instantly become one of my favorite places! Their bubble tea is great with several different flavors to try out. I already love Taro and coconut milk tea. Yay!! I am so happy this bubble tea/sushi burrito place has opened near UB south campus! It's about a 5 minute drive from south campus. I was impressed by the colorful decor and booths! Each cute booth comes with its own notebook that can be used to draw sketches, along with color pencils and highlighters! I came here because of a grand opening promotion (20% off of everything). My friend and I ordered the grapefruit green tea and signature Tai Chi milk tea. What can I say, I was pretty impressed! The grapefruit was very refreshing and yummy, and the green tea gave it a flowery taste! The Tai Chi milk tea was very subtle and not overly sweet. We also decided to try out their sushi burritos and sushi salad/rice bowls. We were given a small menu to check off any protein, toppings, sauces, and additional items to our orders. Of course, I went all in and decided to check off all of the mix-in toppings, hehehehe (no regrets). You can pick 1, 2, or 3 proteins for $8.99, $9.99, and $11.99, respectively. The proteins include bacon, tuna, salmon, crab meat, shrimp, organic tofu, and chicken. The only downside is that it doesn't include any eel :(. The green base for the salad includes lettuce, spinach, red cabbage, and kale. Once again, I checked off all of the greens :) Overall, I was very pleased with this new place.
