Classes take place in a small, serene yoga studio during its off hours. They run a generous two hours, never cramped or crowded with plenty of personalized attention. One class regular drives from downtown and said he'd tried four or so Tai Chi studios and found this one the most comprehensive. I can see why and while I'm lucky to live close by, I too would drive crosstown to attend. The traditional Yang style is taught, slowly and steadily building up to the long form. The founder, Eugene, has decades of experience under the tutelage of Grandmaster Lu Zi Jian (a centenarian believed to have lived 112 years.) He's not only a well of knowledge but a riot. All levels are welcome and instruction is lively, humorous and infused with wisdom from the Tao Te Ching. The practice is considered an embodiment of it in physical form. Each session includes warm up exercises, QiGong and Tai Chi demonstrated with detail and care by both Eugene and his co-instructor, Ritchie. Their difference in age and disposition make for a synergistic duo. There really is no marketing or fanfare. A quick Google search to their website led me there and I feel so fortunate for having discovered it. I can show up tired, tense and stressed and leave each class much calmer in mind, grounded and energized in body. Tai Chi''s timeless benefits speak for themselves. They don't teach the REAL stuff, I don't know if it's because I'm American or what. Most of the time, they teach a dance. Or a watered down version of Tai Chi. Green Frog Tai Chi teaches the real stuff. Green Frog teaches the form (Again, not the Chen Man Ching version which is a complete load of shit, but the original one from Yang Luchan), followed by the internal work that's accompanied by it. Unfortunately, so many schools in the United States follow a guy (Chen Man Ching) that doesn't use his Dantian to move. So, many people don't actually feel Qi or energy movement. At this school, you can feel it. You feel a ball in your Dan Tian, moving around. They also have great Qigong and Meditation exercises. If you actually follow the advice from Eugene, you'll find your body is more relaxed, you have way less health issues, and your chakras begin to open. I appreciate the honesty of Eugene and want to keep learning at this amazing spot.

I have learned so much in my personal Pilates practice as well as from an instructor standpoint. As someone who doesn't have the "traditional" Pilates background (I'm not a dancer, I come from sports and weightlifting), I've found that Bodyline is supportive and welcoming to all human experiences. The students are as diverse here as you'll experience anywhere. I've taken private lessons from Colette and am just starting group classes at the studio. It's great to be able to put in practice what you learn in class in the actual studio to reinforce concepts and get familiar with expected choreo and queues before the test-out. I've noticed such an improvement in my own practice, both inside and outside of Pilates, due to the personalized feedback I've gotten here and thorough information I've learned about corrections for lumbar lordodis and hip popping. First class you will be introduced to the process, poses and how to control the hammock. Things that I wish were a bit different: instructor should be focused and slower with a people that are first time there, specially with the way how you adjust the hammock and control it. I feel, as English is not my first language and being first time there, I would have to figure out most of the things naturally, on my own, without instructor correcting me. After few classes with different teachers, if you are beginner, definitely look for a classes with Mary! She will make you more confident, guide you properly trough every pose and give amazing advices. Her way definitely changed my picture about this studio in a more positive way. She approached to us with amazing background knowledge but also understanding what you would need as an beginner. PT saw me for a few visits and they said that there was nothing that they could do for me. They too gave up, so I gave up. I went 6 months just sitting and getting worse, until I was introduced to Linda Lack and TBFM. I'll admit that I wasn't expecting much at first after my recent experiences. Now, after months of working together I have made unbelievable progress and my pain levels are down 90% most days, 100% some days, and at its worst it never gets near what it had been before starting TBFM.
