I used to come here all the times. I had a really bad experience with their male masseuse who massaged me in a way that I felt uncomfortable and violated. I've gotten hundreds of massages in my life time and I know what's appropriate and what's not. This was not appropriate. I was in the area dropping off a relative at a therapy session and bumped into Taiji Body Work while walking down the block. I saw their advertisement outside their establishment that highlighted grand opening rates of $36 for a foot rub and $50 for back rub. I walked down the stairs, from street level and was greeted by a cordial young lady. It wasn't packed as their establishment is brand new. In fact, I was the only customer to have arrived. I requested a foot massage and was ushered into a small room in the back. There's a small window that helps let air circulate. You could faintly hear remnants of the NYC hustle and bustle of pedestrians coming and going. It did not disturb me as the room was clean and the vibe was right. My goal was to get a value priced 1 hour foot massage. The young masseuse came in an did a good job overall. I did notice that at the beginning of the massage, the other people working there were having a loud conversation the permeated the walls. My masseuse yelled out something in her language and they all quieted down. I appreciated that and tipped her well, not just because she gave me a good massage but that she understood the nature of a good customer experience. I initially wanted the special advertised on yelp for a 75 min massage for $50. For whatever reason, I couldn't pull up the coupon code so she gave me the 60-minute massage for $45. We go upstairs... I wasn't given a choice of man or woman. A woman did it, not a problem. I love deep tissue massages & that's all I pay for. For the 1st time, I had a woman massage my back with her feet. It was an amazing experience until she farted. I thought I was tripping because I smoked some good green prior to arriving. As the massage continues she's having a conversation with an older woman in the facility & she farts again... I'm like wtf? A few more minutes go by and she farts for the 3rd time. I'm trying to enjoy my massage while holding my breath on a massage table & my mouth is getting dry because I'm now breathing through my mouth so I don't have to smell her farts. I couldn't fall asleep like I normally do. I was also bowed! I smoked some really good weed before I got there. So now I'm on the table listening to her fart & my imagination is getting the best of me. I can't put my headphones in because my phone was charging & she's standing on my back... farting! I even thought she might have been acting out some sort of strange type of sexual fantasy to walk on / foot massage a man of color while farting that I've never heard of & couldn't google because my damn phone was being charged. As I'm pondering how a grown woman who runs a business can't control her bodily functions, how this was the most unprofessional & offensive service provider I've ever encountered in all my years of getting Asian massages, and how this has to be right up there next to the time it felt like I was getting dry-humped my the man providing my chair massage once before.... the hot stones come out & save the day! Very clean facility and I had a very good 75 minute massage (including hot stone and back walking) with 'Sasha.' Definitely recommended especially for the price. Manage your expectations though - this isn't the Ritz Carlton and yes there is a language barrier so if you're not getting the massage you want it's up to you to speak up until they understand. Sorry but I think it's rude to tolerate a horrible massage and rather than effectively speak up in the room to come on Yelp and annihilate these service workers because you didn't get exactly what you wanted and didn't want to have an uncomfortable conversation in the room. I purchased a groupon for the 90 minute massage here are my thoughts: Upon entering the woman in the front checked my temperature and followed all protocols due to covid. She handed me a sheet which asked for my name, phone number, if i wanted a male or female massager, where and how much pressure i wanted from the massage. I chosed female, medium pressure, neck and back. She told me i had to pay a $5 fee before the massage and took the sheet looked it over and told me to go upstairs. I was met by a male massager. I didnt make a big deal about it because he was available. I undressed and kept my leggings on which i always do when i get a massage. He came into the room and said since hes using oil all clothing should be removed. I I removed my leggings and laid down for the massage completely nude. He started masagging which at first was medium touch just the way i asked. As soon as he felt knots he became extremely rough. I began to hear moaning sounds coming from the other room. He noticed i was moving a lot so he asked if I was okay. I said no and to be a little less rough multiple times. He continued being rough. At certain points i felt like someone pissed him off because of how aggressive and rough he was with his hands. I was getting punched in the back, poked and slapped. I was trying to process everything as it was happening. The slapping on my butt i didnt mind since ive been in quarantine and haven't gotten any action. It was just unexpected and shocking. The only perfect part was the hot stone. He waited for it to be the perfect temperature to place it on my back which is why im giving 2 stars. Towards the end of the massage he asked me to lie on my back facing him. Ive gotten plenty of massages and laid on my stomach until the end this was the first time I ever was asked to lay on my back. He massaged my feet, legs and thighs. I wouldnt return to this place and recommend it to anyone. It was definitely weird and awkward. Why give a patron a form to fill out and not abide by it. It defeats the purpose. I got a great deal on Groupon but i wouldnt reccomend this specific location for a massage unless you like rough and aggressive massages. read more

I was recommended this place by a friend, so maybe if you go you'll have a different experience than I did (with a difference masseuse). Here's my story: The guy who gave me my massage was far too rough -- not in pressure, but in literal aggression. He would slap stones on me, accidentally whack my head, was even moving the table back and fourth because his "rubs" were so jolty. Instead of massaging, he more just pounded his body weight quickly into random spots all over my body for 90 minutes. When he found a knot, he would force over the knot over and over, which as a dancer I know is not the way to release a muscle knot. I eventually said "OW" as there was also a language barrier and he didn't understand when I was asking him to massage along and around the knot, as opposed to over. After I made that noise, he thought I just wanted less pressure and to not give any attention to my knots -- which completely contradicts why I came to get a massage in the first place. I left with major pain in my left forearm from his aggression on some knots I had there. I was stressed pretty much the entire 90 minutes, so unfortunately I felt I had to write this review! read more

Today was the third time, they canceled my reservation made many days ago. I went there, and found my reservation crossed out. I asked why? They said, sorry no English. Judy is always farting, rude, and loud. Sasha is an excellent masseuse, but the fact that they cancelled my reservation without a phone call, or explanation, for the third time, made me cancel all my future plans there. Never again. Also, half the time, they don't answer the call, nor do they speak enough English. I believe that they cancelled my reservation in favor of non-groupon customer. But, without a phone call or explanation? I have to go there, and I was early, to find out that they took someone else? Not good. First off the place was clean, but the massage therapists seem crass. I'll spare you my experience waiting for the bathroom. When I got in the room the massage therapist was unbelievably aggressive. I stopped him twice, but it was weird how aggressive his touch was. And he was so fast. I felt tense. Later when I demonstrated it to my male frIend he was in shock. I mentioned at the beginning that I had a neck injury no less. I will never go back there. It was unprofessional and crass. And when you try to explain your needs the massage therapist, the person doesn't speak English and seems rather annoyed that you are talking to them at all or that you exist. Save yourself the anguish. Sorry to say this, I was hoping it would be a great place, but this was the absolute worst massage of my life. read more

AVOID !!!!! Was visiting nyc with for the weekend , decided to get a massage with my girlfriends. We made an appointment at 3:30 on a Saturday. Went into the downstairs area to meet the masseuse. They told us to head upstairs so we did. I didn't get a preference on if I wanted a woman or a man. I had a male masseuse. At first massage seem to go well but after five minutes the masseuse was extremely rough on my shoulders neck and back after I told him multiple times less pressure he continued to aggressively massage me. After I start tensing up and telling him less pressure - he said I'm so sorry but continued to aggressively massage my back. Then he told me to turn around on my back which I did. And he started to massage my inner thighs which I thought was really uncomfortable- did not feel good at all . After the massage I was extremely sore even worse than when I came in.Two days later I noticed multiple bruise spots on my upper back mid back and buttocks area post massage. Avoid this massage parlor at all costs not sure if the training is not properly done correctly or they're just having people come off the street to massage customers. read more

This was the first Peng Spa's Taiji Work location I've been to. I have since visited 2 other locations. This was my least favorite location of all of them so far. The front desk is in the basement of a building. That's where you go to check in and get set up. Then they take you back outside to go into another part of the building upstairs. The upstairs is very small to the point of almost feeling claustrophobic. And as I mentioned in another review for a different location, the staff is way too loud when speaking with one another. And it's even worse there because of how small the place is so it makes the loud talking and walking around loudly even worse. Once you're done, then you have to go back downstairs and back outside to go back to the basement area to pay. Sad part is, my masseuse was very very good but I still didn't leave feeling relaxed at all because of the rest of the experience. I haven't been back since. read more

Would give this place a zero if I could. I had to LEAVE I felt so violated. I have been to several massage therapists and they are very polite and personal in what you want. I get massages for tension in my back that causes migraines. My friend and I decided to try this place out for a walk-in quick massage since I was feeling bad. These women spoke no English, basically shoved me in a room, and then yelled at me when I didn't get completely undressed (even tugged at my pants and wouldn't leave the room while I undressed). I threw on my clothes and left I was so upset and angry at being treated this way. Unbelievable rude, impersonal, and violating. Do not go here. Would do more I'm so angry at this place but I'm stuck just writing a review. No one should be treated that rudely no matter what the business. read more

He was absolutely very attentive with the perfect amount of pressure! Massage space was divided by curtains but still somewhat private. Just got the 75 minute massage for $50 with Frank. My friend had Amy. Relaxing and good. The rooms are small and no frills but worth it.

This was almost comically bad. I was greeted at the entrance by two staff people (a man and a woman) screaming at each other at the top of their lungs; one then slammed something on the counter in anger. They took up the next customer and the proceeded to argue. The man seemed to not believe what the woman was saying and then came right in my face to confirm that I did indeed only want a female masseuse - I confirmed. I finally go upstairs with another lady (thankfully) to start my 75 min massage. It was going fine - not great, but fine - when another customer decided to make a phone call via speaker and then continue with some loud hip hop music. They at least told him to be quiet after the music came on. What was most disturbing is that the rooms are so small they have to keep the curtains open when they work on your legs. And, there's no guarantee that another customer won't walk by at that very second. Luckily for me, I bore myself without an audience but there's no way I'm coming back, not least because she also only gave me 65 minutes of the service. read more

I originally came here because it's very close to my apartment and their prices are pretty unbeatable ($26 for 30 minutes). The first time I came, I had a female masseuse who did a very good job. However I have been back now about four times and ever since that first time, I've now had male masseuses. I am someone who likes firm massages, however I have found since that initial pleasant experience, all of the rest of the times have been almost unbearably painful. I would chalk it up to lack of training - - it seems the masseuses don't exactly know what to do when they encounter a knot. I have found that they just dig in so hard that I actually often leave feeling more sore than when I arrived. There also have been several times it's been painful not because I have a knot but because they're rubbing my body in an unskilled way - - for example, with a lot of bone to bone contact or other uncomfortable feelings.This past time the masseuse kept pulling back and pushing forward the table, which was pretty jarring. And, to top it all off, I gave a 15% tip since I was not fully satisfied. When I gave my masseuse the money, he said something to the receptionist who then asked me to give 20%, which I think is kind of a weird move. Despite their cheap costs and convenient location (which are normally my two biggest requirements), I will not be back here and will take my business to a new spa that cost a few dollars more down the street. read more

Huge issues with this place. I asked the person behind the desk for a 20 minute foot massage, and she responded it would be $20. I sat on one of the chairs, and noticed the massage seemed to be going a little longer than 20 minutes, but I didn't say anything because I assumed that as professionals they were keeping time and would stop at the 20 minute mark. When I went to pay, the man behind the counter told me it would be $26 for my 30 minute massage, which was extremely annoying since I specifically asked for a 20 minute massage. I took out a card, and he told me it was actually $28 for card (at no place in the store does it say this). I then asked for change for a $20, and he proceeded to give me two tens. When I said I wanted a $10, a $5, and five one dollar bills, he told me that people usually tip $10 for this service, and wouldn't give me the change I asked for. The massage was fine, but the rudeness of the person behind the counter coupled with the fact that I was overcharged for a massage I didn't even ask for makes me never want to come back to this place again.
