I love to support small businesses and since I am very petite, I've always got something that needs alterations. They take great pride in their work and are in high demand. They botched my new, never-worn ($598.00 LP not including tax) Rag & Bone Wood Blazer, which I requested the sleeves get shortened: - Two long (6-inch and 9-inch) scissor cuts on the back of the blazer.- - Crooked stitching is visible from the outside of the sleeves. 2. They inconvenienced me greatly with their poor planning, mistakes and lack of customer service: I accepted their lead time of three weeks with a scheduled pick-up for Friday at 5 p.m. The day before the scheduled pick-up, I called them to confirm the items would be ready the next day, on Friday at 5 p.m. They confirmed yes and acknowledged the traffic would be heavy at that time thus a standard 20-30 minute drive would be 60+ minute drive. On the day of the scheduled pick-up, and 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time (5 p.m.), I got a call from Danielle asking if we could reschedule the pick-up because the items were not ready and they were overwhelmed, or I could wait. I told Danielle I was two exits away and had already been driving 45 minutes to get there so turning around is not an option (I will be stuck in traffic during that time) so I might as well wait. Danielle's response 'Well, we'll try to get it done by the time you arrive.' I communicated my concern about them rushing it and not doing a good job, and she said, 'Don't worry, it won't be ugly.' The botched work validated my concerns. I was stuck in the Nordstrom store for over two hours dealing with the debacle, and finally got refunded for the cost I paid for alterations and the two purchases: The Rag & Bone Wool Blazer and a dress. (I didn't want the dress, which they were still 'working on to complete' as I have now seen their shoddy work). The latest. I've asked Nordstrom if I can buy the Rag & Bone Wool Blazer elsewhere and have them reimburse me the $180 difference, which is the savings I received from Bloomingdale's on that purchase. The current retail price at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Rag & Bone, NM, and Saks is $598 (before tax), but I bought it on sale at Bloomingdale's for $418.60 (before tax), saving $180.

Apparently I never pressed publish on my review! Better late than never…read more.. First, the summary: Kirsten is AMAZING. I got married 11 years ago. My dress was a dress that two of my dear friends had worn in their weddings, but they are both taller than me/wore heels and someone had done a hack job on some of the layers. The dress has a billion beads and layers upon layers of fabric. Two months before the wedding (because I'm a procrastinator) I called Kirsten and she was able to fit me into her schedule. She took one look at my dress on the hanger and had already formed and idea of what she needed to do. She knows dress design very well and walked me through everything she was going to do to my dress. Her eagle eyes also caught a lot of damaged or missing beads on the dress that I hadn't seen. Kirsten ended up shortening my dress in the front and tapering it into the train, repaired all the damage, replaced the snaps and eyelets for the bustle, and a million small things I didn't even know needed to be done. She made sure the dress would be easy for me to get on and off, and hang right in all formations. She had the alterations done in about a week! When I went to pick up the dress I asked her to make me a custom veil. She happened to have fabric to match my dress and had that done in a week! Kirsten's pricing is phenomenal. I would have gladly paid her 5x what she charged me for everything. Especially because I was in a rush. Kirsten is incredibly professional, but also very warm and kind.

Even though she was in SF, Lynette said she was masterful. She advised me to ask Kirsten for a brief assessment of the alterability of the dress and to let her know that we would be restoring it in order to see if it needed to be cleaned first. Kirsten gave me a clear cost and process for the finishing of the dress. I went to her for a consultation in the Inner Sunset and it took about a half hour. Cash or Check payment. The alterations would not need to start until a certain timeline and it was very straight forward to have the cleaning, alteration, then finished pressing before the wedding. I was so pleased with the final result!!!

She is also pricier than other seamstresses I've shopped around with. She has a limited schedule. When I did my initial fitting she kind of waited for me to tell her what I wanted fix. I knew dress didn't fit perfectly but I couldn't pin point how to fix it. The seamstress I worked with for my reception dress was a lot more helpful in guiding me on what should be done. The one thing I did ask for (tightened straps), she didn't recommend because she thought it would cut into me when I moved--I was constantly pulling them up on my wedding day. One thing really bothered me. When I booked, she stated there would be 2-3 fittings. However; when I asked when I asked when my 2nd fitting would be she said she was fully booked. Like I said earlier, she has a limited scheduled. I was really nervous, but I was able to book at G&G instead of at her house so I was able to get my second fitting. It food well enough that I didn't ask for any adjustments because I was already frustrated with the situation. The hemming and bustle she did were okay. The extra breast cups she put in were loose and could have been done better. I think Nadia was a skilled seamstress but I would choose someone else if I could do it all again. I would have preferred to use the seamstress I had for my reception dress. The communication, scheduling, and pricing was much better.

Rather than accepting every project, she carefully evaluated each dress and agreed to work on only two. She explained that while the other two dresses could technically be altered, the fabric and fit would make it difficult to achieve a result that met her quality standards. I greatly appreciated her honesty and professionalism. Many businesses would have accepted all four dresses, but Tina was focused on delivering work she could confidently stand behind. Her transparency and commitment to quality immediately gave me confidence in her expertise. During my first visit to Tina, I brought both my dresses to try on to assess the alterations that I needed done (mostly hemming). She provided a quote at that time, and stated that payment could be made at pick-up. I found her pricing to be very reasonable given the complexity of the dresses (material and multiple layers). The two dresses she altered turned out beautifully. The craftsmanship was excellent, and the fit was exactly what I wanted. The turnaround time was about two weeks from drop-off to pickup, which I found very reasonable (especially since I had told Tina there was no rush). She clearly takes pride in her work and pays close attention to the details that make a difference. One thing to note is that English is her second language and Mandarin is her first, so there can be a bit of a language barrier. If you speak Mandarin, communication will likely be even smoother. That said, I found Tina to be thoughtful, professional, and genuinely committed to achieving the best possible result for her clients. I would definitely return for future alterations and would highly recommend Tina's Alterations to anyone looking for quality workmanship and honest, trustworthy service.
