On July 24th of this year, the garage door failed to close and was simply stuck regardless of my efforts to manually raise/lower the door by releasing the carriage. I called Precision again and they had a technician out early the next day. (a Saturday) There was nothing obvious that caused the failure, but the cables had come unwound from the spools and wrapped themselves around the horizonal pole that holds the torsion springs. At first they charged for the service call, but a couple of days later reversed the charge as this was considered a warranty issue as no cause was found. Stellar service techs, stellar management for doing this. My highest regards and compliments to both! If you need your door serviced, make Precision your first call!

My technician was fine. He was quick, professional, and efficient. Unfortunately, the pricing is…read morethe BIG issue. I wish I had researched the cost of the materials before agreeing to the work. I completely understand that companies need to mark up materials, but the markup I was charged was excessive. Here are some examples from my invoice compared with prices I found from local hardware stores: Garage door hinges: I was charged $20 each and needed six. The same/similar hinges are available locally for under $5 each. That is roughly a 300% markup. 16' reinforcement struts: I was charged $140 each for two. I found comparable pricing online for approximately $80 each. End bearing plates: I was charged $90 each for two. I found pricing of approximately $65 for two. T-Rail Bottom Seal, 3.5" (16 ft): I was charged $143.49 total, or $8.99 each. I found comparable pricing for approximately $5 each, which would have been about $80 for 16. I understand that businesses have overhead and need to make a profit, and I expect some markup on materials. But there is a significant difference between a reasonable markup and charging several times the readily available retail price. The technician himself was not the problem. My concern is the material pricing, and I feel customers should be made aware of these costs before the work is performed. Unfortunately, after seeing the pricing and doing my own research afterward, I would not use this company again. I also intend to share my experience with friends and family so they can research pricing before agreeing to similar work. My advice to anyone considering using this company: get an itemized estimate and compare the material prices with local retailers before authorizing the work.
