This is by far one of my favorite Asian restaurants around. My boyfriend and I typically come during the week because the weekends can get very packed and noisy especially in the afternoon. The food here is some of the freshest food around. I always get the steamed chicken and broccoli with cashews. I also order a side of sushi: the spicy tuna roll and an order of the salmon roll. Without a doubt, they have the freshest sushi around. The fish just melts in your mouth, and to have something like that in Western PA is a blessing. Decided to do takeout fairly early on New Years Eve. Was told that the wait would be an hour which was what I expected. Ordered 3 shrimp Spring Rolls. 3 entrees... House Special Duck, Happy Family and Sun Bay Jee. All came with an order of boiled rice. I arrived just after 6 and my order was just being brought out of the kitchen so it was hot. The spring rolls were rather small and rather greasy but did contain a couple of shrimp and were otherwise tasty. The Happy Family was good with an equal reasonable amount of large shrimp, pork and chicken and vegetables in a brown sauce which as expected was not overly flavorful but still good all the same. The duck entree was very good even though it had the similar brown sauce. The duck pieces were beautifully cooked and consistent with every piece. My favorite however is the Sun Bay Jee and has been my go to dish for a number of years. Flavorful Taiwanese dish prepared hot pot style with tender chicken in basil leaf and garlic based sauce with onions. Wonderful. Accompanying rice portions were fair sized. Next time will dine in, but this New Year's Eve I was entertaining my sweet 94 year old mother in law, so knew that wasn't going to happen. However It was her first taste of duck and she tried and enjoyed every dish we put on her plate and she ate as much as me...which is no small feat!. read more

The restaurant has a good atmosphere, but when entering it feels like you are opening doors to the kitchen. The sushi was decent, but only acceptably good. I ordered a pork egg roll and orange chicken. The egg roll lacked flavor and was surprisingly dry, even with sauce. The orange chicken was clean, quality chicken, but it lacked sufficient citrus and sweetness. It wasnt bad, but it was certainly not anything to write home about. My husband and I have been here several times. We came the other day and everything was great. We typically like to get sushi. I was pregnant, but our son was born and so we have enjoyed being able to get some sushi again. We typically like the deep-fried stuff. I do enjoy some others as well. The staff is nice here and always keep our drinks filled. It's a good atmosphere and a quiet place if you want to come talk. We will be back soon! read more

I went here with my daughter to get some food and it was really yummy. My daughter and I both got an egg roll. They were huge and so good so they filled you up fast but we had to stay for the sushi. We split the Boston roll and California roll they were both really yummy. The service was amazing and the food came really fast. Over all everything was great. read more

I got a Japanese lunch special for takeout. The lunch special comes with I guess a single piece of sushi, the California roll. Being vegetarian, I asked if I could get a vegetable roll instead. I mean, that should be a no brainer, right? But the guy at the register mumbles something about no substitutions. He said it would be about ten minutes, so I went to look around at the other stores in the strip mall. Fifteen minutes later I return, not ready. I sat down at the bench in front and it still took at least fifteen minutes for my food to be ready. It was OK, vegetable teriyaki and a salad with ginger dressing. But their attitude toward vegetarians could use some enhancement. read more

Since moving to Pittsburgh from New York, my wife and I have been searching for a regular sushi place to settle in and frequent. Unfortunately the ongoing COVID pandemic has put that search on a months long hold. But we had had enough of the quarantine and recently went out on a date night. We had been to Taipei Tokyo in the past and liked it. The service has always been good. This last time it was even better. Two servers were super attentive to us. The food and drinks arrived quickly. We didn't wait long for anything even water refills. They abided by social distancing rules. No one was near us even though the restaurant was busy. The staff wore masks throughout. My wife and I had a really good date night at Taipei Tokyo. They very well may be our new regular haunt. read more

What an amazing hidden gem! I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new sushi place to try out and in luck came across Taipei Tokyo. It's located in a little strip mall area and from the outside, nothing really stands out. But as soon as you go in, the place is always bustling and full of people. I only order sushi when I go but the quality is great and the price can't be beat. This is one of the few places that actually makes the spicy mayo taste spicy which I love! The rolls were pretty much what you would expect, not a hole in the wall roll but not an actual Sushi restaruant roll, it certainly gets the job done. The seafood hot pot was great. Broth had a nice spice too it. Some of the seafood was over cooked but I guess that's because they used frozen stuff instead of fresh. Wasn't bad though. read more

First thing I felt when I walked it was that it was very peaceful and the lights were dimmed, with soft piano music playing in the background. The service was elegant witch is usually what brings me back in regardless of the meal. Also, they have a full bar witch fits in well with the design of the place. Had a good experience overall! I believe they brought out tempura batter with a peach sauce as a free appetizer as we waited for our food, but I am not certain that was the correct dish. It was a great sweet sauce and the tempura was crispy. Miso soup- this was probably my least favorite dish. It was oddly sweet and did not have enough tofu. Shumai- small steamed shrimp dumplings, a fair portion, and it came with a savory sauce. It was okay. Triple Alliance- my main course was very tasty and the portion was slightly larger than a regular mea. It came with chicken, shrimp, and scallops as well as some vegetables in a brown sauce. The meat and seafood was tender, sauce was a bit sweet, and there were ample vegetables like carrots, water chestnut, and broccoli. Mango mochi- an order only comes with 2 but they were tasty. I came for lunch time. It was full. The place was too dark for me but it was large and quite which is good. I thought the price for a lunch set is great. The salmon was fresh and the miso soup was tasty. Ginger salad was too sweet though. Friendly staffs. I don't know if I talked to the manager or owner. Taipei Tokyo used to be my family's favorite Chinese restaurant. Not sure what happened. I used to order the amazing chicken simply because it tasted amazing, now it's very bland. Another favorite of mine was the lemon chicken because of the way it used to be prepared. Now it tastes horrible. New cooks, cheaper ingredients, new owners? I have no idea. We just placed a pick up order last night and it will probably be the last time we order from Taipei Tokyo. The fried rice was so burnt, we could not eat it. and the beef and broccoli looked like soup it was so watery. We'll be looking for a new favorite Chinese restaurant. read more

This place used to be "the" place for asian cuisine. We arrived and it was quite busy. Our server was friendly and competent enough. Problem I have with this place is it is DIRTY! The bathrooms at concert venues are cleaner than this place. IF what the customer sees is dirty, what do you think the kitchen looks like behind closed doors.
