Stopped by Taiwan Bento on the upper floor of the Aberdeen Centre food court, and it was such a pleasant surprise. I ordered the Taiwanese pork bento box, which comes with two sides and soup, plus you can add a winter melon tea or lemonade for just $1 more. Portions are very generous -- I couldn't finish mine, and two people could easily share if you're not too hungry. Great value, and tasty comfort food. Taiwan Bento is definitely a solid food court gem, and I'd happily return on my next trip to Richmond.

    E combo menu.

I'm a frequent patron to the Aberdeen Center Food Court and delighted to see a new Taiwanese cuisine addition. Taiwan Bento 101 first opened in May 29th, 2026 and are operated by the same group from Myst Burnaby. So naturally they brought with them their authentic Taiwanese flavour to a food court setting. Me and my friend ordered their combos #B05 Traditional Marinated Pork Rice and #B07 Boneless Chicken Thigh with Marinated Pork Rice that comes with two sides and free Fuzhou ball soup + for $1 more you get a choice of refreshments Wintermelon Tea or Lemonade. The line was busy but staff moved things along quickly by taking your order online via digital ipad before you reached the cashier. After your order was complete you were handed a pager coinciding with your order number and you can have a seat til your page comes to get your order.

We ordered the soup with the expectation that it would be in some medium-sized bowl that the two of us can easily share. The soup actually was giant and is meant for a family. Luckily, it was absolutely delicious; the pork was super tender, the egg fits in perfectly, and the broth was tasty. Every drop was finished. The braised pork belly was also delicious. Tender and fatty, I wished there was so much more sauce for the rice to soak in. I'm also a super fan of pork floss, so loved its inclusion. The side is also noteworthy. The radish soup was so flavorful yet light, and the tofu was fantastic. Everything we ate was five stars on its own. Only panic was when paying our server said they only accept cash or debit? I only had credit cards and American money, but in the end, she was able to use my credit card. Not sure what that was about.

I wonder if it's also available on the weekends. It was available on Friday though. I wish there was the option to add pearls on the side for a price though. My set menu drink had no pearls. Not sure why that's not an option. Definitely a missed opportunity for the business imho. Oh... and the kimchi was a bit weird with the fact that it's overly sweet. Overall, good value and good food. Service depends on who you get. 3.5 stars

Vegetarian Three-Cup King Oyster Mushrooms on Rice…read more I've had this dish before and came back for another round. This time, I decided to level up and chose medium spice... a decision my taste buds are still discussing. Ordering is done through a QR code, and you can customize your dish -- with or without ginger, plus your spice level: mild, medium, or hot. The chef was very generous with the sauce and chilis this time. When they say medium, they don't mean "a little kick"... they mean "welcome to the chili party." The dish came with so many chilis that I started wishing there was a little more rice to help balance the heat. Thankfully, the restaurant serves hot tea, which became my superhero in a cup and helped calm down the spice attack. ‍ I clearly underestimated the "medium" spice level -- but spice levels are funny because they really depend on the restaurant. One place's medium is another place's "are you sure you're ready for this?" Still a tasty and flavourful dish, and I'll definitely remember to respect the chilis next time.

They're even friendly to vegetarians, with an entire page of the menu dedicated to vegetarian dishes. We had the popcorn chicken, the stir fried bok choy, the sha cha chao mian with lamb (the anglicized name for this on the menu is "signature ancestral herbal satay with fried noodles), and the noodle soup with beef brisket and tomato. For three people, this was the perfect amount of food for a hearty dinner. Our favorites were definitely the popcorn chicken and the noodle soup. The popcorn chicken was perfectly and delicately fried, SO JUICY on the inside, and seasoned just right with a lovely basil aroma. The noodles were toothsome and swimming in a gorgeous broth with the most tender beef. Stir fried bok choy is pretty standard but definitely a must if you want really any vegetables in this meal. Sha cha chao mian with lamb was good -- lamb was perfectly cooked, very tender. The noodles themselves are nice but the flavor is a bit one dimensional. Service here is really good. They are so nice, and very fast!

The tofu pudding was AMAZING - freshly made with a delicate soy milk flavor, silky smooth and melts in your mouth. The yam balls are equally impressive, nice yam flavor with just the right amount of chewiness. I could happily eat this all day!

I feel like their other dessert options probably have potential and I can see this being an excellent post dinner hang out spot. Turkey On Rice (3.75/5): Rice and gravy was tasty, but turkey was a bit overcooked and kinda chewy. Black Sesame Mochi (3.75/5): This came out piping hot and the flavors were good (can't go wrong with black sesame and peanuts), but the texture of the actual mochi wasn't as chewy as I like. Satisfying, but not anything special. Taiwanese Sausage on Sticky Rice (2/5): Not sure what the red sauce was, but I really was not a fan; too sweet and had a weird funk to it. Taiwanese sausage also didn't have the right texture or flavor, you want the signature big chunks of fat. Pineapple Shaved Ice (4/5): Decently fluffy shaved ice and the pineapple was candied like the inside of a pineapple cake. Grass jelly sat at the bottom of the bowl and added an extra satisfying jello texture. Traditional Fresh Milk Tea (1/5): Way too sweet and the tea flavor was kinda bland. Maybe the other drinks are better.

Thanks for the recommendation Jando S. At first glance, the prices are average for this type of food. However, once I saw the humongous portions, I believe this vendor should clearly be categorized as cheap eats. For example, for roughly $10, you get three large pork chops (fried or marinated, I slightly preferred the fried more), sautéed cauliflower in XO sauce, soy braised tofu skin (so good I paid for extra $5 portion), crunchy pickles, stewed fish tofu, marinated egg, and a whole separate box of white rice. This is easily $15-20 in NYC. Same price for the crispy, tender, and juicy Chicken Nuggets (aka Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken) with all the trimmings. The quality of every item in the box was top notch and all very delicious. What many customers ordered that interests me for the next visit was the Salt & Pepper Chicken (椒麻鸡), which was basically a huge piece of pounded chicken thigh, battered like the popcorn chicken, with a mala sauce on top. This is a gem for the people who live locally in the area. Such bang for the buck!

The restaurant itself was clean and the staff were attentive. As for the food, the beef noodle soup noodles were overly soft, the chicken nuggets were too salty, and the deep-fried pork chop was oily and fatty. The one dish I did enjoy was the stir-fried squid, which was probably the most decent dish of the meal. I did share my feedback with the server, and I appreciated that they offered a small discount for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, despite the good service and clean environment, the overall food quality did not meet my standards, and I left disappointed after hearing so many positive reviews.
