Food has no taste, shawarma beef didn't taste like anything! A small side of rice and just standard salad with no seasoning in any out the items, the only thing that was kind of ok was the hummus which helped chewing these bland taste food items. Kufta beef order was coming like half baked! You can see like red juice coming out!! And when we pushed back they took it to kitchen to rebake and when it came back again it was bland no taste, no seasoning at all. It was excepted at least to beat the home food experience a little bit, but this place made me regret dining out. read more

There is no question that the SFV is a superb dining destination. Nice, eclectic and vibrant choices, without the madness of driving into LA and being frustrated and clogged by endless traffic. Hence, once in a way, I like to head west on the 118, over the mountain, into the calm and beautiful neighborhood of Simi Valley. This time, I decided to try Ali Baba Cafe and came here to have their Kufte (their name for the minced kabob). When I gleaned the menu, I was surprised to see that you could actually order falafel, by the pieces at $1 each. Never seen that anywhere. I do not want you to think I am cheap, but it is so nice to have this option, instead of having to order 6 at a time and what happens, if they are no good? So, I opted for just two falafels to start with, while I attended to personal business on my phone. When the falafels arrived, I was blown away. The outside crispiness was unique (and I have had falafels at numerous other outlets). Freshness and taste complimented. Came with Tahini. Superb. Excellent service. After that, I decided to go with the Baba salad. Here too, no pressure down the throat, there is a smaller size, you can order. At $6, that was my selection. I requested no lemon (in my opinion, citrus can destroy a dish if it is not controlled. So I avoid). The salad was moist, refreshing, colorful, crunchy and satisfying. At this point, I had forgotten about the kufte, and still desired more of the falafel. So I ordered 4 more pieces. Once again, every bite was divine. On exiting, I had the privilege of meeting Omar, the owner, who was sitting outside. I took this opportunity to compliment him on his restaurant ....and the falafel. Which in my evaluation, is clearly, one of the best falafels, I have had, in both these lovely, attractive and magnetic valleys of Simi and San Fernando. read more

Nice and friendly service and ambience. My order included a Chicken Shawarma Salad which was a good portion although I couldn't really taste the meat so much because it was cut quite small. The Baba Ganoush with Pita was good, although more garlicky than smoky Eggplant tinged like other places. The Chicken Kebab Plate was also a good portion. My absolute favorite Mediterranean spot. Definitely a hole in the wall kind of place - you can easily miss it as you're driving on Madera. But once you try their food, you will be thinking about it for days! You cannot go wrong with the chicken kebab plate and the hummus. The rice is seriously to die for. I think about this rice in my sleep! The hummus is definitely on the more garlic side but I absolutely love garlic so it's perfect for me. Most restaurants you can tell the difference between eating in and ordering takeout (usually takeout food quality sucks) but here the takeout is just as good as if you were to eat in. I was in the mood for shawarma after watching the Avengers movie (Props if you get the reference!) and went to this place because it's local, is popular, and has promising reviews. I ordered the Dinner for Two with Beef Shawarma and a side of Hummus. It certainly didn't disappoint! Everything was great and I couldn't tell which was more delicious - the beef shawarma, the rice, the pita bread, the salad with garlic sauce, the pita bread, or the falafel. I absolutely couldn't get enough of it! Portion wise, the Dinner for Two is more than enough and my sister and I will be eating it for our next meals. The only thing that's stopping me though is it's a bit pricey, but definitely check it out if you're looking to get your Mediterranean food fix! I want to try the other items on their menu too, especially their baklava. Lastly, I got my food to-go but the inside looks spacious and nice if you're looking to dine-in. My husband and I have been going to Alibaba for years. We generally go inside to eat and we've never been disappointed. We recently ordered a "to go" order and it was quite shocking. First of all we ordered a side of hot sauce, which they charged $9.00. For the size I thought this was very excessive (approximately 3 ounces). I ordered my favorite Salmon Shawarma, at $21. When we opened up the "to-go" package, there was literally eight little pieces of salmon. It was not anything like what I have received when I have eaten in the restaurant. The chicken Shawarma was dry and we didn't even finish eating it. With the two Shawarma, a side of hummus, a side of vegetables, and hot sauce. The bill was $68, with tip $75. I called to complain and spoke with Nick, who was so rude to me! He began yelling at me that they are a small business and they are doing their best. Nick, I am a customer who rarely orders take out or goes to restaurants because we can't afford it. To be treated with such venom is not "acceptable" customer service etiquette. In the end, he shouted he would give me a "gift certificate" but never asked my name or expressed how I might get said "gift certificate". We will not being patronizing Alibaba again. read more

Terrible Experience! My 10 year old loved their steak kabob. I wanted to surprise her and told the employee two times over the phone that I wanted a "kids" steak kabob. They charged my $25 ($8 on their website). I was already in the car and on my way home when I called them and they told me to bring it back and they would give me a kids portion. I canceled my order completely. I wonder who got the steak kabob that we were wrongfully gave us and forced to return. I was told that they were training an employee but they should have absorbed their error and not stressed their customer (us) out by forcing us to rerun the wrong item they gave to us. I asked for a side of humus and I was offered an 8 or 12 oz for purchase and I chose to add a side to the other but a little smaller content. To my surprise it came mixed with the fill and the spicy sauce used was so overpowering the flavors overall, no present flavor of the beef shaving strings at all! Delicious local spot that shouldn't be passed over! I've lived only half a mile away from Ali Baba's for over a year now and never even noticed its existence. My friend told me about this great spot and we made plans to meet for dinner. One time down, and I know I will definitely be back. I got their chicken burger with cheese which comes with these amazing French fry/potato chip hybrid crisps - OMG so good! Large portion and tastes great. The burger has good flavor and a nice sauce. I also added grilled onions, and got a side of garlic sauce to dip the fries/burger in. Heaven!! It was fairly slow here on a Wednesday evening so it was nice and quiet and we had great service. Tonight I ordered the chicken Kufta. It was priced at $16 for the complete meal. I really was shocked when I saw how much food they gave me. Three long thick skewers of the chicken Kufta. I had this burger that was insanely delicious, with spices and herbs and it was perfectly juicy and greasy. I also had a soothing mint tea with a delicious baklava, which was such a delightful end to the meal. The ambiance was very nice with immersive Mediterranean art/decor! My boyfriend and I had a great time here tonight for date night! It wasn't too busy but still had a good number of patrons. I ordered the chicken shawarma which was quite lovely, and my boyfriend the beef kufteh! He loved it. Our server was very nice to us, but the one thing I wasn't thrilled about was not being told about the service charge when using a debit/credit card. If I'd known I wouldn't have used card and saved the charge fee. I think patrons should be told up front about that.
