The food is on the spicy side even their lowest level though (mild) except for the yellow lentils (not spicy at all). Talk about a hidden gem. Honestly, when was the last time you went to an Indian restaurant that felt light, airy and open? The ambiance at the Taj Chaat House is so unique and inviting. The open layout is nice and airy along with the up front ordering makes things a breeze. The text on the menu board is a little small but other than that it's straightforward. I elected for the lunch special which all things considered was a great deal! The service was very fast and efficient. Now on to the food. For the Chicken Tina Masala I intentionally ordered "mild" so as to enjoy the flavoring and it was spot on. The texture was nice and creamy with a hint of spice and a little heat on the finish. The rice was fluffy and when blended together offered the right combination of a smooth sauce combined with rice to create a nicely textured dish. As one Yelper wrote you will be craving for more. I eat Indian food everywhere I go so I can't believe I made the mistake of ordering chicken tikika vs chicken tikka masala. My bad. I just rushed through the online ordering in chicken tikka was higher up on the menu than chicken tikka masala, which was lower on the menu and there were no descriptions next to them either so my mistake. Since it was my mistake I ate it but was a bit disappointed. Room for improvement maybe add a description next to the dishes to help avoid these types of user error. The chicken tikka was tasty just not what I was in the mood for. So I also ordered the saag paneer, Chana masala, naan, samosas, and rice with peas. I ordered everything mild and they did have a mild spice level compared to a lot of other Indian restaurants I've eaten at so that was great. I could actually taste the food. With the Chana masala, I like it when the gravy is a little bit more tomato based, the base on this Chana masala was very brown and not as red as some of the other Chana masalas (including homemade) which I have really enjoyed. The paneer saag was my favorite. They were generous with the paneer and the spinach was well broken down. I'd get this dish again. The rice and peas, naan, and samosas were all standard. I'd like to go back and try done other dishes. I like that it's close to my house because Indian food is definitely one of my favorites and I'm hoping on my next visit I find some more favorite dishes. read more

Wanted to try this place, so we decided to order takeout. Ordered Samosas,Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, and white rice. My husband picked up the order and walked into an empty restaurant with a gentleman who was working with the t.v. and another employee walking by, paying no attention to a customer that just walked in, seemingly ignoring him for what seemed like a minute and when he was finally greeted, there was no friendliness at all. He used to work in restaurants, so he can forgive a new place working out the kinks if the food was good; unfortunately we were disappointed on that front as well... Food review - Chicken Tikka Masala was too spicy (could not choose level of spiciness online) with large pieces of green peppers and onions as filler, which was a new one for us. Samosas were decent, but the tamarind sauce tasted like artificial lime juice. Even the garlic naan lacked garlic. I placed an order online, through their website. The order process was easy and straightforward. It was about a 35 minute wait time for my order. When I arrived about 5 minutes early, the food was ready. The restaurant is new, but it was still super clean. I grabbed my food and headed home. Assorted Pakora, it was cauliflower, broccoli and other vegetables fried golden brown with a yogurt dipping sauce along with a chutney and a brown dipping sauce. The veggies still had some texture and they were properly seasoned out of the fryer. 2 of us split this appetizer and it could have easily been a good size for 4 people. Paneer tiki masala was amazing. The sauce was buttery with a ton of spices. The potatoes were cooked perfectly. This dish was a 10. Chicken vendaloo was really good. The chicken was tender and not dried out. I thought the chicken needed seasoning but the sauce was so flavorful it didn't really matter that much. The heat level was perfect, it was spicy but it didn't overpower the dish. The chili nan was good and the paneer kulcha, nan with cheese inside, think Indian quesadilla, was good Overall both of us loved this place. We will return with the rest of the family. Wow! So excited that this place is so close to work. We come here 3-4 times a week. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is so delicious you crave it whether it's hot or cold outside. Their Garlic Naan is pretty huge. It's a perfect pair to their Tikka. Only wish that I have though is if they can offer a Tikka that's like a tiny cup because I can never pass up ordering their Chicken Tandoori with their mint sauce. Portions are pretty big and I usually have plenty for the next meal. No issues with parking. One thing you'll notice though, the minute you get out of your car, you smell the awesomeness emanating from the restaurant. In turn, makes you salivate even more. You go up, place your order and take your table number and sit down. The food is served to the table and you can get my your own water by the bar. There's plenty of tables and it's nicely decorated inside. Great for large parties as there's a large area to the left of the restaurant. We definitely have become regulars at this place! read more

Very very yummy Indian food! We got the saag paneer, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan and rice. The two entree dishes were very flavorful and not overwhelming. The portions were decent too. The only complaint I have is that the rice is $4 and comes in too big of a portion for one serving, I wish they come in a smaller size so we can be less wasteful. It is a very spacious space with just a few tables , I'm not sure if they add more tables when it's busy but there were only two parities there when we had dinner there, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Unlike most sit down Indian restaurants, you do make your order at a counter instead of at the table. They then give you a number tent for the table and they will bring you the meal and buss your table afterwards. I am looking forward to trying other dishes on my next visit. read more

Having read the reviews and having noted the comments regarding the spice level not being enough, it may be that Taj Chaat over compensated a bit. For those of us who prefer and request a mild level of spice, it's truly uncomfortable to consume food that is too hot for your palette. My husband, who enjoys and eats spicy foods, stated that he, too, couldn't handle the level of heat. We asked for more yogurt sauce to help cut down on the intensity of the spices, and were told that they normally charge extra. They were kind enough to not charge us on this occasion. Otherwise, the food was really nice... fresh and tasty. For the price, table service would be appropriate, vs being directed down the counter to get your own drinks or to the fridge next to the register to get your own bottle. Having to get up from your table to ask for things or get your water, etc. takes away from the experience of this type of setup. Each and every dish we tried was delicious. Chana with Amritsari Kulcha reminded us of authentic flavors you get in India. The stuffing in the kulcha was rich in flavors and masalas were balanced...nothing too overpowering...just the way it should be. Saag with Makai ki Roti is a must try if crave this typically Punjabi dish that is not in the menu of most Indian restaurants. Dahi Papri chat was delicious and their specialty ( as the owner said). Place is clean with comfortable seating options. The people serving were cheerful and food arrived quickly. Taj Chaat House is the best! We visited recently and were very pleasantly surprised to find the most authentic and delicious Indian food! The owner, Jesse travelled India learning from the best. There is an extensive street food menu, as well as curries and such. We enjoyed the well spiced samosas served with very fresh mint and tamarind chutneys. The pastry was really flavored! So nice. Next came tandoori fish, sizzling hot, spicy and so moist and tender. It came with the onion and peppers. Our curry choice was shahi paneer. Best ever! Everything was uniquely spiced with a very deft hand. The basmati rice was delicate and light. I am probably not yet doing them justice, as every item was perfectly curated. We could taste the love and attention which went into each dish. The tip off of how great it is, was the paratha. I was in India twice this year, and after tasting it there, it became my favorite Indian bread. We've ordered it at many places here in Los Angeles. I've been really hoping to share with my husband how good it is, but have been disappointed. Until now. When the paratha was served, I took one look at it and told my husband, "There. That is real paratha. You finally can taste it!" Layers of flaky, buttery, spiral shaped so light. It pulls apart and is soft, buttery and toasty in the mouth! When I spoke to the owner, he told me it was how his Mom would make it for him. There's a self serve water station. Next to that is self serve raw cucumbers, onions, and chiles to complement the meal. Another nice touch is that chai is served free of charge on request! Added to the experience here is the ambiance. Open, airy, peaceful music playing. The changes made from the previous restaurant (Chop Shop) were done with Jesse's hands. His care is evident everywhere-- in the food, in the service, in the vibe. The newly opened restaurant was nicely decorated in a style I would describe as Indian minimalist and was very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, with fresh ingredients and arrived fairly quickly. The price was pretty much what you would pay at most Indian restaurants. If I must have one criticism, it's that the spice level on the food, wasn't very spicy. I had a lamb vindaloo and asked for it "very hot" Unfortunately it was pretty mild. I'm English and was raised on hot Indian food, so I can only guess that they toned it down, for American customers.
