Still our go to Indian restaurant; even though it's 40 minutes away. I usually get chicken tiki masala, but this time I got butter chicken it was also great. We actually went this time during lunch. Will you get a salad Nan and a glass of chai tea with your meal. Very reasonably priced at lunchtime I think it was 12.99 and definitely the best Indian food within 40 miles from my area. I usually visit a restaurant multiple times over several months in order to give a comprehensive review. Taj Mahal in Conway is no different. Over the course of six months we have eaten there at least twice a week. The experience has been the same each time. Jay and his team have service and quality refined to perfection. The restaurant cleanliness is impeccable. The restrooms are some of the cleanest I've ever seen. Every item on the menu is, very simply put, delicious. The naan is homemade. None of that frozen junk some restaurants serve. The naan is light and crispy and chewy all at once. No matter your preference: from chicken to lamb to goat to shrimp and seafood to total vegan offerings, there's something for everyone here. You can order to your preferred spice level from mild to medium to hot. My wife prefers mild. I prefer medium. It's a nice heat that let's you know it's there without muting flavors and has you diving in for more. My go-to dishes are Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Lamb Korma or Matar Paneer. If you're there around lunch you can get a bowl with your choice of protein, a choice of rice (the saffron rice is great), naan, salad and chai tea. I always opt for the regular serving and get my protein with basmati rice and butter naan. I've eaten at thousands of Indian restaurants during my travels in the U.S. and abroad. Taj Mahal ranks in the top two best I've had in the U.S. and in the top three in all my travels. Do yourself a favor and experience world-class authentic Indian food today! This is our favorite Indian place so far we will drive an hour to eat here. It has always been good reasonably priced and service is good.

Another excellent meal! Had the Tandoori shrimp. Came with 8 pieces of good size shrimp. Cooked perfectly and flavored wonderfully. Service is always great. I really don't understand why you have not tried this place in Conway. Next time you are trying to decide which chicken strip, burger, or Mexican food joint to go to- again, go try Taj Mahal. Sure you don't know anything about Indian Food. I didn't either. Start with the Butter Chicken for your first time. Heat level ranges from almost none to Indian Hot. Mild or "American" spice is the middle ground (makes my nose run). It is good to go with friends and each order something different and share. That allows you to taste more than one item. My husband had the chicken tikka masala lunch bowl with garlic naan. The flavored naans had an up charge on the lunch bowls. (I like the fact the menu reflected the additional charge because I've had to places where the server "forgot" to mention an additional charge until I ask about the additional charges on the bill.) We arrived shortly after the restaurant opened. The place was quiet. The ambient music was at a volume that added to the experience.... And you and your table mates could have a nice conversation. The saag paneer was creamy and delicious. The well portioned salad was fresh and tasty. The naan had the perfect amount of rosemary. My husband's chicken tikka masala's sauce had a bit more tomato taste than others we've had. The spices balanced the sauce well. "Heat" was exactly right. So thumbs up for this unique sauce. Huge chunks of tender lamb, the right amount of peppers onions and spice. The mild is quite mild, so don't worry about the heat. I might even go up a notch next time. I like the rice too. Nothing too fancy; but a great base for the sauce. There were a few chunks of some sort of spice you don't want to eat/swallow; but only in my dish. I will be ordering again. $17. read more

We are visiting from out of town for a 50th wedding anniversary party. Saw this place with HIGH reviews on Yelp and google maps, so we decided to try it. We have previously owned restaurants and been in the food service industry for years, so we are very picky about where we choose to spend our money. They sat us immediately - party of 6, on a Friday night. Great! Waiter immediately came to the table to greet us and answer questions. We ordered garlic naan, water, and masala chai. {Saw the 20% mandatory gratuity for parties of 6 or more. We eat out a lot, either just the 2 of us or large groups. The mandatory gratuity never ends well}. Waiter left, we looked over the menu, he returned, we ordered, he clarified the order. The GOOD- the food was delicious! Our party ordered Chicken tandoori, chicken masala, lamb korma, and lamb in a clay pot. Brought out the child's chicken nuggets first, then 3-5 minutes later 2 more entrees; again, 3-5 minutes later another entree; and again, 3-5 minutes later, the last entree. Frustrating when the last dish comes out 15+ minutes after the first dish. Never saw the waiter again. We set the EMPTY water carafe at the edge of the table, hoping one of the waiters would notice it; they didn't. Never saw either waiter again. One of us had to go stand by the hostess stand to get their attention to bring us to-go containers and then had to go back up there to get their attention for the check. Service was horrible, and the restaurant was very noisy, even though there were few customers. It wasn't easy for us to talk at our table, because of the noise. Nice ambiance and great food with friendly service! I'm a huge addict to Indian food and this place has been saving me from my cravings. Highly recommend chicken korma (sweet coconut flavor) and butter chicken. Chicken tikka masala has more tomato flavor than I'm used to, but my baby loved it. The first time I ate here it was about a year ago and I got takeout. To be honest, it was awful, and I had written it off as a bad restaurant. Since then, I've eaten there more recently, and I have to admit it is astronomically better. The quality of the food improved significantly. I also dined in this time for lunch, and I thought the service was great. I got the butter chicken and garlic naan, and it was delicious. The sauce to chicken ratio was perfect, and the chicken wasn't dry despite being in large chunks. This place is awesome! It's always very clean and looks really nice inside and the food is top tier. If you don't know what to order you can't go wrong with chicken tikka masala or paneer saag. They also have different levels of spice so if you don't like spice you can always just get mild and the flavor is still there! Appetizers were speedy and delicious. The fried chicken in masala - chicken 65 - was outstanding. Each of our dishes were different in their taste complexity, and all served medium as ordered. The chana masala - garbanzo beans simmered in a vegan sauce - was spectacular. Stopped in for Saturday lunch to a great meal. My partner is vegan and they had some items identified as vegan on the menu (a larger vegetarian section was also present.) My food (chicken korma and multiple types of bread) was very tasty. Service was very good and the server (Pravin) was attentive. He also made a good recommendation for a coconut bread. I'm not usually into coconut but decided to try it, and the coconut was diced so finely that I could taste it but not feel the coconut texture (a good thing for me.) The bread was slightly sweet and would be good for a dessert. It was also good with my korma gravy. The ambiance was good. We were dressed casually and fit in for a weekend lunch but it would also be good for business lunches or dates. My partner commented on how she liked the tables. We found our new favorite spot for Indian food. Everything we had was so flavorful and delicious. Unfortunately, the service was hit and miss. Other tables had a carafe of water and our server didn't bring us one until we were almost finished eating. We really needed water refills after ordering "Indian spicy" food. But he never visited our table to check on us once the food was delivered. Next time, I will ask for it when we place our order. We will definitely be back because the food was that great. Ordered take out and didn't have leftovers! The garlic naan was covered in chunky garlic, the aloo gobi was fresh and flavorful. We also had the butter chicken which had great flavor but the chicken was in large chunks so it cooked a little dry. Lots of sauce helped. We also enjoyed their take on chicken fried rice but do not expect the traditional Chinese version. This one was made with softer vermicelli rice and different spices, more like biryani and less soy sauce inspired, which was still delicious!
