    Chicken curry with garlic naan
    Steve S.

Atmosphere was a little lacking and I was the only patron except there was a lot of takeout activity. Service was a little lacking and could use some improvement but the food was exceptional. I had the chicken curry and garlic naan and both were exceptionally delicious. The chicken curry was very flavorful and the chicken was perfectly cooked.

At first glance, this restaurant might catch you off guard- the location and décor are a bit unusual, and it doesn't necessarily scream "amazing dining experience." But don't let that fool you. After a long day at the Grand Canyon filled with pizza, sandwiches, and all the usual options, Taj Mahal was exactly what we needed -- something full of flavor and different from the basic American fare. We ordered several different dishes and enjoyed every single one. The food was full of rich, diverse flavors that really hit the spot. A quick note: if you're in a hurry, this isn't the place for you. Service is on the slower side, and things (like water, silverware, and food) come out gradually. But honestly, I didn't mind -- the relaxed pace and great food made for a really enjoyable experience overall. If you're in Williams, craving something a little different, and have the time I'd definitely recommend giving Taj Mahal a try.

Lamb Spinach, it was great. Ordered medium spice and it was just right.

Great hole in the wall Indian food on the North side of Williams, near the Grand Canyon Blvd. offramp, next to the Shell station. They took over the space that was formerly the New China Buffet--and good riddance to that place. As of this writing, I think at least one of the New China Buffet signs is still lurking around, so don't be confused, that's where you're heading. We have gotten takeout from there twice now, and both times we were very happy. Will definitely be going back! So far we have tried Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobhi, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Lamb Korma. All were really good! The Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer have been our favorites (something has to be your favorite, right?) but all the dishes were solid. Plain rice was complimentary and we didn't upgrade, but I'm tempted to for an upgraded rice option next time. We also got a garlic naan and it was good too! As to ambience, it's a bit of a divey, hole-in-the-wall vibe. They haven't really upgraded the interior since taking the place over, and it is pretty much the same inside as it was when it was the Chinese buffet. We haven't had sit-down service there so I can't really speak to that, but the staff that helped me at the counter were friendly both times I came in to pick up the food. The first time, there were several tables seated, and a few semi-truck rigs in the parking lot that looked like they were having take out. The second time there was only one table and it was pretty quiet. For now I would call this place a bit of a hidden gem, and I hope more people find out about them. I say you should give them a try!

Got the Lamb curry and several types of naan (paneer, garlic, butter) - so delicious. Kept saying after every other bite "This is so good!" Service was very attentive, too.

Here's my thoughts for today's visit. There is salt and pepper on the table! First time I found salt lacking and was happy to see it accessible on the table. The Indian coffee is bomb...and while Sugar in the Raw isn't available, there was honey today which was a nice touch and way better than refined sugar! Last time I was here I ordered the standard tikka masala, which I LOVE, but I noticed there was much less chicken than the first time I visited, and the prices had gone up. So, this time I opted for the Veg Korma, which I get every time, and the Dahl (lentils). The korma is lovely with chunks of potato, cauliflower, peas and carrots (feel like they are frozen, but good nonetheless). The sauce was spiced at spicy and was perfect. The Dahl was nicely spiced and just a really good vegetarian meal, not too heavy and plenty of leftovers. The butter naan was adequate. It was much denser than last visit and honestly lacked some flavor, but the garlic naan I've had before wasn't much different so I opted for the lower price point. All in all, it's hard to complain. The family does a really good job ensuring patrons are satisfied, which is key. The prices have increased about 25-30% since they opened and I feel like the portions shrank a tad, but considering I'm one person and I always order two entrees, I always have left overs. I'll state it again....great option if you're coming through Camp Verde/260. Something besides Mexican, lol. The family is lovely and I am a huge proponent for supporting small, local businesses!

Rice was extremely mushy and overcooked, almost like porridge, and tasted like water with herbs. For a $33 meal, I'm a little disappointed. I returned it but got the same thing. I must say Tikka masala was really really tasty. So they have some good food, just not Indian food.It was just the rice so I'm really happy i didn't order the biryani. Your place can absolutely not be known for good quality Indian food. See I don't like that it's hard for you to take constructive criticism, as I made sure to add things that I also liked. So I didn't make a bad review, I made an honest review that included the things that I liked, and the things that I didn't like. If I wanted to miss guide consumers about your business, then I would just say hateful things and not add any good opinions. I 100% recognize that you guys make really tasty drinks, even the tikka masala is pretty good, it's just not good Indian food., it's just food not good quality Indian food. As you can see in the picture below, I inserted a picture of what Indian rice typically looks like as far as consistency, texture, and taste, yours looks nothing close to it. Yours looks like oatmeal and tastes like water with herbs. And my meal, including an extra side of rice, and garlic naan came out to $33. Let me know if you wanted to insert a picture of my receipt. Indian food is typically on the expensive side, so the price is not the problem if you're going to charge such a high price then you should make sure that your food matches your prices because it doesn't. And you shouldn't call yourself an Indian restaurant if you don't cook, good quality, Indian food, especially something as basic as white rice. It should be perfect in my opinion. Yuck and don't ever tell somebody that they're exaggerating without trying to at least understand their point of view. Because you're loud and wrong. Will absolutely be sharing on TikTok.
