I'll start by saying this is the best Indian food we've ever had. The veg korma and chicken tikka were absolutely incredible, fresh, deeply flavorful, and still on my mind long after the meal. If I could give the food ten stars, I would. We also had the samosas, which tasted homemade and were equally delicious. FABULOUS! We were visiting Williams on vacation and, as we usually do, searched for a local spot on Yelp. When we arrived, we were a bit unsure at first, as the exterior and signage were unexpected, but we decided to go in and are so glad we did for the food alone. Inside, there was a large dining area with plenty of seating. It seemed like there may have been a different service style than what we are used to, as we were not greeted right away and ended up seating ourselves, getting our own cups and silverware, and flagging someone down to place our order. We weren't quite sure how the process worked, which made the experience feel a little awkward and unclear. That said, the food truly stood out and made a lasting impression. We shared our appreciation when we paid and left very grateful. With a bit more clarity around the service experience, this place would be an absolute standout. This place is legit! Delicious food, friendly service, minus 1/2 star for ambience, but I'm rounding up. I wish I took pics! Stopped through this little town on our way out of Grand Canyon. Having eaten a lot of American and Mexican food in the past few days, Indian seemed like a welcome change. The reviews were very good but I was skeptical about the authenticity of an Indian restaurant in a small town like this. This place is legit! We had a Veggie Samosa, Chicken Curry, and Aloo Gobi. All had excellent flavors and nice spice level. The chicken was tender and the sauces were so delicious that we scraped up every last bit to eat with the basmati rice. Atmosphere was a little lacking and I was the only patron except there was a lot of takeout activity. Service was a little lacking and could use some improvement but the food was exceptional. At first glance, this restaurant might catch you off guard- the location and décor are a bit unusual, and it doesn't necessarily scream "amazing dining experience." But don't let that fool you. After a long day at the Grand Canyon filled with pizza, sandwiches, and all the usual options, Taj Mahal was exactly what we needed -- something full of flavor and different from the basic American fare. We ordered several different dishes and enjoyed every single one. The food was full of rich, diverse flavors that really hit the spot. A quick note: if you're in a hurry, this isn't the place for you. Service is on the slower side, and things (like water, silverware, and food) come out gradually. But honestly, I didn't mind -- the relaxed pace and great food made for a really enjoyable experience overall. If you're in Williams, craving something a little different, and have the time I'd definitely recommend giving Taj Mahal a try. read more

Fantastic food as other reviewers have commented. But the venue is extremely questionable. The current restaurant occupies a former, huge, Chinese buffet restaurant and they've barely updated signage or fixed damaged interiors. Very sketchy vibe for dining in but the staff was friendly and as mentioned, food is great. At this point in their tenancy there's no excuse for the condition of the bathrooms, bathroom hallway, and worn/wrong decor. read more

Great hole in the wall Indian food on the North side of Williams, near the Grand Canyon Blvd. offramp, next to the Shell station. They took over the space that was formerly the New China Buffet--and good riddance to that place. As of this writing, I think at least one of the New China Buffet signs is still lurking around, so don't be confused, that's where you're heading. We have gotten takeout from there twice now, and both times we were very happy. Will definitely be going back! So far we have tried Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobhi, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Lamb Korma. All were really good! The Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer have been our favorites (something has to be your favorite, right?) but all the dishes were solid. Plain rice was complimentary and we didn't upgrade, but I'm tempted to for an upgraded rice option next time. We also got a garlic naan and it was good too! As to ambience, it's a bit of a divey, hole-in-the-wall vibe. They haven't really upgraded the interior since taking the place over, and it is pretty much the same inside as it was when it was the Chinese buffet. We haven't had sit-down service there so I can't really speak to that, but the staff that helped me at the counter were friendly both times I came in to pick up the food. The first time, there were several tables seated, and a few semi-truck rigs in the parking lot that looked like they were having take out. The second time there was only one table and it was pretty quiet. For now I would call this place a bit of a hidden gem, and I hope more people find out about them. We went there for dinner after the Polar Express train ride and were very disappointed to find that it was buffet only. Online menu's showed a separate dinner menu. The food in the buffet was very bland. The restaurant needs to be renovated. It looks old and dirty. read more

The food and services were excellent. We had samosas and onion pakora as appetizers. Weirdly, they were served with ketchup. We asked the server if they had any other sauces and he brought us a delicious mint coriander chutney. Maybe some people prefer ketchup? We had naan bread with our dinner of lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. All three were excellent. The ambiance is not cozy, but it was fine and clean. We'd happily come here again--a pleasant surprise for people who love Indian cuisine. read more

Exit I-40 and stop here if you love yourself and need a hearty, delicious, quality meal that makes you forget every frazzled pit stop you've made across the interstate. I'm so glad we ate here tonight. Kept it pretty basic with samosas (beautifully seasoned - and that tamarind sauce on the side is INCREDIBLE - I think they put a splash of rosewater in there?? So good!), garlic naan, goat curry, and chicken korma, all of which were delicious. We also tried the chana puri on recommendation of the owner, and it's my new favorite dish. If you like chickpeas, pillowy fried flatbreads, and getting flavor blasted, do try it and sail the seas of deliciousness. Generous portions (although maybe ask for extra rice) and just totally delicious. Is it the best Indian food I've ever had? Honestly - it's up there. It made me forget the road and remember how much I love good food, prepared with care. The booths are cozy, the music is danceable, and the customer service is pleasant. Didn't get much but what I had (palak paneer) was very good. The naan weren't great (a little dry and expensive for what you get). This is the perfect alternative to a fast food meal and some crappy chain while roaring down I40 trying to get wherever you are going. Since I do that a lot, I'll most definitely be nice. The woman behind the counter was very nice, the space is pretty run down but I got this to go so it didn't make much difference. read more
