I've been here three times now since they opened and really appreciate having Indian food here in VV. Again, rarely 5 stars because there is always room for improvement. Here's my thoughts for today's visit. There is salt and pepper on the table! First time I found salt lacking and was happy to see it accessible on the table. The Indian coffee is bomb...and while Sugar in the Raw isn't available, there was honey today which was a nice touch and way better than refined sugar! Last time I was here I ordered the standard tikka masala, which I LOVE, but I noticed there was much less chicken than the first time I visited, and the prices had gone up. So, this time I opted for the Veg Korma, which I get every time, and the Dahl (lentils). The korma is lovely with chunks of potato, cauliflower, peas and carrots (feel like they are frozen, but good nonetheless). The sauce was spiced at spicy and was perfect. The Dahl was nicely spiced and just a really good vegetarian meal, not too heavy and plenty of leftovers. The butter naan was adequate. It was much denser than last visit and honestly lacked some flavor, but the garlic naan I've had before wasn't much different so I opted for the lower price point. All in all, it's hard to complain. The family does a really good job ensuring patrons are satisfied, which is key. The prices have increased about 25-30% since they opened and I feel like the portions shrank a tad, but considering I'm one person and I always order two entrees, I always have left overs. I'll state it again....great option if you're coming through Camp Verde/260. Something besides Mexican, lol. I'm so glad we got a place in Cottonwood so I don't always have to wait till the next trip to the valley for Indian food! I need to come back again but I love that the spice level was customizable online as I am a big weeny! I went with the staples to try first and I was very satisfied and will be back! FYI: this restaurant shares the building with 2 other businesses so I don't advise you walk to the right and end up chatting with AA like I did. Restaurant is on the left third of the building! The fresh, delicious food more than makes up for the tiny dining area and un-fancy decor. The covered patio is much more spacious and appealing...when weather permits. The only thing that would make it better are combo plates (not offered by enough Indian restaurants). Solo diners aren't likely to order multiple entrees to enjoy the variety. read more

FOOD 5/5 The flavors are DELICIOUS. Let me tell you! Authentic and not "watered down" flavors. All of it is delicious. Samosas, mango lassi, tika masala, saag, papadums, I can go on! SERVICE 4/5 Service is quick but getting my order right all 3 times I've dined in or picked up seem to be a challenge. It's always been incorrect and had to be fixed. They fix the issues with no problem, however, so that's nice. Seems like a great family who run it and I wish them the best and to be open forever so I can always get their delicious food LOCATION 4/5 slightly out of the way but close enough. The food was ok - vegetable pakora was a little dry and lacking vegetables. The tamarind chutney was good but the mint chutney was a lot different than I have ever had and personally I didn't enjoy it. The curry was spicy but felt a little simple - not a lot of spices. I highly recommend this restaurant, and especially the butter chicken. I like it spicy and order 4 out of 5 on the heat level. This is a family run business and the service is friendly and usually fairly quick. Most of the time I order takeout. Generally the food is ready when I arrive, but a couple of times I have had to wait 5-15 minutes beyond the quoted ready time. The garlic naan is delicious. My son in law is of Indian descent and he says this restaurant serves some of the most authentic and delicious Indian cuisine that he has experienced in the USA. He and my daughter live in the Phoenix area, and they feel that Babu Tikka Masala is better than any of the Indian restaurants that they have tried in the Valley. read more

Food was good, not the best Indian food I have ever had and not the worst. We got the Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma, Garlic Naan, and the samosas. The samosas were not very tasty and the first order came out still frozen in the middle. They replaced them with cooked samosas, but still not a lot of flavor in the filling. Don't be turned off by the small location hidden next to a motorcycle dealer, it's a real gem hidden away in the Verde. Had the chicken tikka, garlic naan and a mango lassi. The garlic on the naan was a bit undercooked but might have been by design to give it more zing, but the real winner was the chicken tikka: fantastic sauce and you can taste that the chicken was well marinated in yogurt. The lassi was delicious and super sweet that it almost makes me worried how much sugar was in it. The guys there were super friendly and attentive to make sure all my food was good and okay. The food has been amazing both times we've eaten here. The owner embodies the great American immigrant story--he came to the U.S. with just $62 in his pocket, worked across the Southwest for six years to save enough to bring his family here, and even served as a translator supporting our troops in Afghanistan. We stopped by this small Indian restaurant, Babu Tikka Masala, in Cottonwood, and ordered a Goat Masala (medium spicy), plain naan, and a mango lassi. I was very impressed by the flavor of all three. As a regular at Saffron in DTLA, I must say I found this place very impressive. The naan was slightly crispy on the outside but soft inside, with a thin, mochi-like layer in the center. It was very tasty. The Goat Masala was incredibly flavorful with just the right amount of spice, perfect for dipping with naan. It was so delicious I couldn't stop eating. The mango lassi was also excellent. Usually, I find mango lassi too thick and overly sweet, but this one was just right. I had a wonderful experience in Sedona this time. I plan to return soon to try more dishes at this restaurant. read more

I was so excited to get Indian food close by and it did not disappoint I have gone a couple of times this last time I went with my friend who is a chef and they were very impressed with the quality and the portion size as well as the flavor. The mango Lassi was so fresh and an essential at my table because I always order things at the highest level of a spice . My seasonal allergies have been crazy this year and I feel so much better after eating here. I will eventually probably try every single thing on the menu, but so far I have had: Chicken tikka masala Lamb curry Butter chicken Goat masala Daal maharani And I always get garlic naan and Papadam This is an excellent place to take vegan and vegetarian friends. Such a great find! We're in town for RunSedona and stumbled upon this place on Yelp earlier in the week. It's a family-run spot--the dad cooks, the mom bakes, and the kids run the front--which gives it a really homey feel. We ordered our usual chicken tikka masala along with the garlic chicken kabob, and everything came out hot, fresh, and clearly made with care. If this place were closer to home, we'd be regulars for sure. Definitely worth checking out if you're nearby! read more

Although I gave this restaurant 3 stars, there is certainly room for improvement. The food was good, but my husband ordered the chicken curry with a level 3 spice and did not receive it. I had the chicken tikka masala, which was slightly dry. The rice was undercooked, and the naan bread seemed store-bought rather than freshly made. The service was another area that could be improved. We waited over 30 minutes for our food because a young family member made an error with the order. It seemed like the family had their children helping out, which is understandable because school is out for the holidays, but the inexperience was noticeable. I ordered chai and was surprised that refills were not offered, as is common in many other restaurants. Additionally, we had to request utensils and water glasses because the staff, particularly a disinterested teenager working the front, seemed inattentive. This is a new, family-owned restaurant, and I recognize that they are still finding their footing. Safi and his family served 9 of us last night. What an amazing Experience in a casual and comfortable environment. All 9 of us got served hot food and the spices were incredible. I always wish to encourage locally owned shops in our neighborhood, plus the family who runs it seem like real nice people. But I cannot say that I got a good meal here. Lamb masala was about 3/4 bone and 1/4 meat. That is just not good enough. What is also a huge limitation is that there really are NO appetizers to order, nor are there any meals which would include an appetizer. Finally, $8 for two pieces of bread? Hmmm...not really worthwhile either. Obviously we do not have a great deal of Indian restaurants to choose from. Mradaa is a place I will not return to. But Sedona Social Eatery, I will. It is a food truck, so you cannot eat there. But the food was better and cheaper than what I got at Babu, so I will return. And the owners are very sweet and more outgoing too there. I have lived in places where there is a wide variety of Indian restaurants, so I have had a wide variety of experiences. Food-wise, Babu is near the bottom of that scale. The owners are pleasant, which is good, but that alone is not enough. I hope they take to heart that they really should improve the food and to offer customers a way to get a decent appetizer with the meal. read more

We arrived about an hour before the closing time and found one empty table (like a folding table at church functions) inside the building. (I understand that this used to be a pizza restaurant). There was a lot of activity in the kitchen area and we were attended to, quickly. The wait staff was kind enough to inquire about the spice level that we desired for our dinner. We ordered goat curry and a vegetarian potato dish. Just as it was being served, we decided to take our food to go, which didn't seem to be any bother. The food was tasty and what we had expected. There are photos of the foods on the table menu, so that helped me to make sure of what I was ordering. We were served a bonus mango lassi to pass the time while they boxed our food. Be sure to read up on the chef and his training on the website; he was a Fulbright Scholar and studied in AZ and has much experience with food preparation and service. This was apparent in the attention to detail on the menu, the professionalism of the staff (the children of the chef were present and came to our table along with the actual wait staff), and the quality/quantity of the food. I note that this restaurant has a limited selection, which means all the food is freshly prepared. The interior is small, but there is a nice heated courtyard with room for many people, so I'd like to return when the temperature is warmer than January. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! read more
