Nice selection on the buffet: two chicken dishes, plus Tandoori. Three curries: pork and two veggie koorma and saag. The only poor dishes are the pakora's and the rice is not Asian. The flavors are appropriate and good heat. Definitely would make this a come back place. read more

After having eaten my weight many times over in Indian food, in cites with large Indian populations, I feel I have some insight to what good and great buffet experience is. This is good, what they have out is on par with what I have tasted here in the states. What holds it back from being great, would be the limited naan selection (plain, no garlic offered), and a sweet option for sauces, such as a mango chutney. To be fair, they do make this, but not for the lunch buffet. First time I ever saw that. Maybe, I was simply lucky. For the price point, would have expected a bit more, but it is still very good Induan Buffet. Pro tip: crush a 'Gulab' ball with some of the coconut chickpea sauce for a nice pairing with the naan. read more

A couple of years ago, we were passing through and we were also craving some good Indian food (Southern Indian to be exact). We found this place by chance and what a good chance it was. Marsala dosas were fabulous, Idlis with the assorted sauces were great and the soup was top drawer. We've been here three times and the food, services and friendliness never fails. While visiting in Bend,Oregon we decided to go to Indian food for dinner. Our friend had never had it before so off we went. We ordered chicken pakoras, vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, Chana masala and garlic naan. I believe it was one of the owners that helped us. He was very friendly and generous. All entrees come with regular naan and plain basmati rice which is nice. Most places I have been the naan is always extra $$. The vegetable samosas was 2 pieces per order but he brought 3 so we each had one. We ordered mild and it had some heat (spicy) to it but was good. Everything was very good and we ordered plenty so there would be leftovers for our friend to enjoy since she really liked it. Coming from the bay area, california which has incredible indian food - I can still say this is some of the best indian food I've had in my life. First red flag was nobody else was in the restaurant, we should have taken that as a sign and walked right back out. Lesson learned, and always ask to see the menu if visiting a restaurant for first time. The booth we wanted to sit in with our group of 4 was said to be highly uncomfortable by the waiter. Table we ended up at was too small to hold all the various dishes we ordered. Waiter was nice, earnest fellow but almost spilled hot chai on us. Eggplant dish was completely undercooked, a major faux paux. The bill was larger than we expected or could calculate for ourselves. Maybe we were charged for things we didn't order. Ugh! We're all bloated tonight. First World problems, but usually Indian food digests better. read more

Visiting Bend for a conference and decided to drive for some authentic Indian food and I was not disappointed with this lovely establishment. Right in the heart of the Bend downtown community among so cool shops lies this restaurant. It is a quaint place and we're seated immediately. The menu was ample I order spicy chai tea. For the meal I had malia kofta and it came with about five different additional items and dessert. It was so delicious and so filling that I honestly could not complete my entire meal. I asked about the buffet and if any of it was vegan, he showed me the options and there were five or so. And he was so kind as to bring over a special made mushroom curry. I am a huge fan of Indian food and the Taj Palace is always great. We've taken friends from out of town there and everyone who's been there has really enjoyed themselves. I have to say, if you are not sure if you like Indian food it's either a hit or miss.. some people try it and and don't like it, my sister-in-law does not care for Indian food, but personally we love it. The service is always a little slow and so if you're in a rush the wait might be too long but the food is great! Yum Yum! My family and I have never had a bad meal there! Wow we're we blindsided by this meal, and are surprised the ratings are not 5 stars across the board! My wife and I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Mushroom Chicken entrees and BOTH were simply out of this world delicious. Both were tremendously loaded with flavors. The chicken tikka masala was creamy and a tad but sweet. The mushroom chicken was quite spicy and more on the savory side. The chicken in both dishes just melted as I bit into it...perfectly cooked! Our first experience with this restaurant - grubhub delivery during stay at home. They answered our q's over the phone and were very friendly.
