An unfortunate event lead to our trying this most excellent restaurant. A broken piece of artwork needing restoration necessitated a trip to Bend, OR. Between the exceptionally good food at Hook and Plow, a most pleasant hotel experience, and a memorable trip to the High Desert Museum; our trip to Bend turned out to be a pleasure instead of the miserableness I expected. We had the Steak Tartare, the Chef's Board, the Blackend Crabcake, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Bone-in Pork Chop. We each got the cheesecake for desert and split the other dishes. This was more than enough for the three of us and we left full, happy, and with three large to-go boxes. The flavors of the various dishes were amazing. Loved this place! We've been having mediocre meals out in Sunriver so it was nice to finally find a spot that had great food, service and vibe. Service was lovely - warm, friendly and attentive. Shout out to Logan for being great with my daughter as well. I ordered the lunch combo special and highly recommend - you can 2 items off a list of 5-6 for $18. I had the tempura battered fish tacos (2) and a cup of seafood chowder. Tacos were well portioned but still handheld and well seasoned. Chowder was delicious and the croutons were perfectly crunchy and buttery. My daughter had the kids fish and chips and the portion was excellent - fish to batter ratio was great and she loved the fries. The restaurant is clean, airy and well decorated. Parking is rough but we found a spot on our next circle through. The waitress was very patient with all my questions about gluten. My menu had "gf" crossed out for the fish and chips. They changed the recipe so now they're beer bartered and no longer gluten free. You are limited to a few appetizers and salads. I tried the steak tartare and it's not great. It was my first time so I'm not sure how it compares to other places. One friend said it had a strong sesame oil flavor? The ahi poke was fine. I did like my salad- pear and burrata. The pomegranate molasses and cheese and pears were nice together. Overall, I wouldn't go here again as a gf person. Staying in Bend for 2 months and had visitors from out of town staying with us. We tried to be careful when choosing a dining option to take them to. Had a very enjoyable lunch at The Hook and Plow previously and decided this would be a good choice. Arrived at 6:00 Saturday 8/22 for dinner. The starters-- a salad, tuna poke and the seafood chowder were good, but all the dinners were a big disappointment in that they were greatly over seasoned with salt. The server delivered the meals and never returned to followup on our experience and was nowhere to be found while we struggled with the food. When she finally returned we explained the situation. She asked if we wanted replacements and by that time, we were all so turned off by everything we tasted we didn't even want anything more to try. Very upset that the manager didn't even have the courtesy to come over and discuss the situation or offer some kind of compensation for our very disappointing meals. The bill was $175 dollars with no wine, desserts or coffee and we walked away feeling upset that we weren't even given any acknowledgement from the manager that they cared about our experience dining there. Over the last 2 months of eating out at many of Bend's finer establishment, we never felt ignored if there was an issue and was always met with an apology or compensation for any wrong doing. Bend, OR has its share of delicious fine dining restaurants and The Hook & Plow is no exception. While the food is on the high end side, the vibes were definitely more casual. We were greeted by the host and seated quickly. We started our meal with a delicious non-alcoholic drink and the Chef's Board: a charcuterie with an assortment of cured meats, rustic bread, and various spreads. That came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, our main courses came out much, much later and lukewarm. Luckily, the food was good enough that it made up for the temperature. I had the NY strip steak. The steak and the Boursin mashed potatoes alone were very good. The pickled onions and chimichurri complemented the meat very well. The meal was supposed to include brussel sprouts but came with a grilled broccoli cauliflower assortment instead. My wife had the Scallop Risotto which was also a great recommendation from the server. In reality, The Hook & Plow deserved 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option on Yelp. It may have been an off night for the staff, so I will give them the benefit of doubt. We would be open to trying it again sometime in the future. read more

The chef's special bread and butter were really good and the appetizer board had such a good variety of items. The selection of wine was also great and I chose a Syrah! We had such a wonderful dinner here. As soon as I walked in, I love the open bright, modern decor, and the servers and staff are all very friendly. They have the best happy hour food options. From the happy hour menu, we got the diverse scallops, chicken wings, and the Ahi Poke tostadas. Chicken wings came with delicious Sriracha sauce. The poke tostada was perfect with fresh tuna creamy sauce and a crisp tostada shell. It only comes with one so I would get multiple to share . From the dinner menu, we got the carrot hummus, which was so deliciously surprisingly amazing for being carrot based - it was one of my fave dishes of the night . Had a wonderful dinner last night in Bend with my family! The atmosphere is lovely, lots of windows with natural sunlight and the decorations & accents matching the nautical theme. The food was absolutely amazing, I think with our group we got to try a little of everything, which I'm grateful for. To start, for appetizers we had the house made bread and the peach and burrata salad, the small details really added to the food with the nuts on the salad and even the bread&butter was something special. Then for mains we tried the fish and chips, scallops paired with the risotto, and the crab cake paired with the carrots. I can honestly say everything was so good, the crab cake, scallops, and even fish and chips were some of the best we've had, and the sides of risotto and carrots are both a must try!! The scallops, Oysters, fish tacos and steak sandwich were all delectable. Nice size portions and reasonable prices. We are not from around here and we had trouble finding this place at first. It is a bit tucked in across from an apartment building that is part of giant complex that had several bussinessess. We've visited Hook&Plow several times now for a variety of reasons, girls night, happy hour, family in town, date night, etc. and have consistently had a great experience! The oysters are well shucked, the drinks are great and the menu changes to reflect the latest trends. We went last night and had the lobster risotto, steak, oysters and spicy margaritas. The food was excellent but the service is really what sets this place to five stars. We did have a slight hiccup with cook on one of our meals and not only did our server take the feedback with grace she proactively comped the item and made sure the replacement dish came out quick. Really a masterclass in customer service and something a lot of places are missing. Hook&Plow is somewhat hidden in the apartment complex but don't miss out. I went to get the gluten free fish and chips but unfortunately it had been discontinued. I pivoted and got the salmon salad it was one of the best i have had. Got there on a Thursday evening, having traveled from Portland and hiking at Smith Rock State Perk. We did not have reservations, but the hostess was gracious enough to find us a spot at the bar. When combined with the burrata, it was a good taste The surprise of the night was the "Fresh off the Hook" pan roasted halibut with ricotta gnocchi, mushrooms and dashi broth.
