I went here for the dinner buffet with a friend. It was a little more money than I would usually spend for a meal out- around $15 I think? The food was all fantastic though. I remember the aloo paneer and vegetable curry being particularly delicious. I don't eat meat, but all of the vegetarian options were great. I also saved some room for rice pudding for dessert and was quite pleased. I also loved the set up of the restaurant. Ordered paneer korma and chicken tikka masala to go for dinner. Both curries were on the watery side. Most Indian restaurants serve more flavorful and creamy curries during dinner and more watered down ones in their lunch buffets, so we were dissappointed that it was buffet quality. Also, the paneer korma came out with a load of peas and the rice was plain long grain instead of basmati. Overall, a little dissappointing, but still a viable option if you expect mediocre Indian food. read more

I'm a major fan of Indian food. I was in India a little over a month ago and was in heaven. So returning to Bend, I was sad that I'd miss the flavors. I eat gluten free foods and the owner showed me which food was gluten free. The sizzling boti kebab was delicious and I ate it with a rice crepe and raita. Come to this Bend institution! It's been here for years and the food is the reason why. read more

They did not check in on us while I ate like most restaurants do and when I went to pay the lady slammed my change on the counter ... Great food! We stayed in Bend overnight. We arrived as they were closing and the proprietor offered to have the kitchen make take out. It was so wonderful that we came back the next day for lunch. The food is authentic, but they make it with an eye to American standards of spice, not too hot. However, my husband likes very hot food and they accommodated him. The sauces are rich and flavorful. The portions are generous. There is a buffet at lunch which was clean, well-stocked and very tasty! The owner treated us as though he had known us for years, though we had just met. Other regulars came in and you could see the easy relationship that they had together. This is the only Indian restaurant in bend. It's right down town. If you are trying to accommodate a vegetarian this is a great option. read more

One of the best places to go for authentic Indian food, I like the fact that the food is absolutely authentic and healthy (not submerged in loads and loads of oil like other places. I have tried most all of the Indian restaurants around the Oregon area, but I still keep only coming back to Taj Palace, coz this is one of the best with a wide selection of the food varieties, awesome taste and the service bends over backwards to make your experience truly memorable. WORST SERVICE-GREAT FOOD. Crazy combo right? First time we have eaten there, we walked in and immediately almost walked out due to the brush off from the hostess. She was obviously dismayed at the fact that we interrupted her Facebook time on her laptop on a dining table. I ordered the Chicken Korma which happened to be outstanding! All the small dishes surrounding my main entree were flavorful and fantastic. One has to appreciate Indian food to actually know and love the food there. Problem- no napkins. Nope, not one. Maybe that's why the white tablecloth is stained with curry sauce- due to the fact that someone had the same problem I did. I would have asked for a napkin if the waitress would have followed up to see how our meal was or refill our drinks after the spicy food had us guzzling down the first and only beverage...but, again- she was too preoccupied on her laptop. Too preoccupied as a matter of fact that she forgot the only other patrons dessert. Oh, and- my husbands beer we were charged for that he never got. The waitress/hostess was clunky and stomped across the floors, was nonchalant about everything and better off in a dive burger joint- or, at home. On Facebook. When we completed our meal (and were the only people there dining) we waited a solid 15 minutes and stared at our waitress.
