I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professional courtesy and customer appreciation at this salon, specifically from stylist Valerie. I have been a returning client of Valerie's for several sessions and have always been a generous client who tips well, as I genuinely wanted to support her business. This morning, I had an unexpected work emergency and unfortunately missed my scheduled appointment. I completely understand salons have policies, and I immediately had the front desk communicate with Valerie to reschedule for the nearest available slot, offering to pay the fee toward my next appointment as a deposit. To my shock, Valerie completely refused to accommodate an established client. Not only did she insist on charging the full amount for a missed session due to an emergency, but she also had the front desk tell me she would have "no availability for the next few weeks"--a petty, punitive gesture toward a loyal customer. While businesses have rules, they also require basic human understanding and professional flexibility for returning clients. Valerie chose a one-time penalty over long-term customer loyalty. I will not be returning to this salon, and I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you value a stylist who treats clients with mutual respect and professionalism. read more

I scheduled to have my hair and my bridal party done for my June wedding back in November. I thought that would be plenty of time to get everything in order. Unfortunately their "Bridal Concierge" team is not very good. They were the one stressful thing about my wedding. I had to constantly reach out to get a reply (if I got one). I was never responded to when I asked in January to schedule my hair trail. I reached out in March for a timeline to make sure we would be done on time and I did not get a reply until 3 weeks before my wedding and everything was incorrect. The times were well after I said we had to be done, they added makeup which was not marked on the form, and did not have the right styles with the right person. I tried to speak with a manager and she pushed me off saying I had to deal with the bridal team even after sharing my frustration about them. I would NOT recommend using them for a wedding. It's unfortunate since I use to like the salon but they have gone down hill with customer service. Day of the lady at the front desk was annoyed I was not paying for everyone and that she had to refund me for some of my deposit. She kept saying I could pay for someone and they pay me back even after I said no. I did love my stylist and she did a amazing job but the frustration of everything outweighs the day of service. read more

The first time I went I called in wanting a wash and style but also tips and advice on what products and how to care for my curly hair. They gave me a stylist whom was of color and she was sweet . She washed my hair then we sat in the chair she began trimming my split ends and after that she puts some products in and I started thinking , when is she going to blow dry my hair ? After about an hour she said she's finished and I looked at her very confused. I asked " your not going to style my hair?" She replied " your appointment was only for a trim and style tips" I replied in frustration because that is NOT what I wanted. After discussion with her and the manager I still had to pay $60 for something I could have done myself. Then my second and last attempt at Taj I called in for a wash and style. I go in and I sit in the chair and the lady starts brushing out my hair (mind you I have thick curly hair and it hurts when you brush it dry!!) I asked aren't you going to wash it then style ? She said she couldn't wash it because I have so much hair and she only had an hour to do it before her next client. I was pissed. End product my hair was frizzy and barley straight and i payed $70 for her to half ass my hair. As a salon you should leave at least an hour and a half windows between clients. Also as stylists you should be able to cater to ALL if not most women's hair types . But here at Taj they obviously don't . Please don't go here just to overpay and he disappointed. Bought 12 session package only, but they changed my account w/o my knowledge to a membership that charges monthly with no ending point. COVID hit and they were closed but still monthly charged me. After awhile I noticed the charges, called them and told them to stop. They would not refund any money, instead providing pre-paid credits for several one hour massages. I accepted, not ideal but I could occasionally give them to others. Every time it tried to redeem these credits we got a lot of blowback and rude service, making it very unenjoyable. I've bounced around between Taj stylists for the past 4 years or so, having originally checked the place out from a gift card (after a lifetime of buzz cuts and the like at Great Clips, I was clueless). Countless mediocre cuts & re-do's, the disappearance of my favorite stylist, and an embarrassing amount of money later, I have decided to end my relationship with Taj. The straw that broke this camel's back was the stylist referred to me in the absence of my favorite - apparently "it's a bit shorter than I'm used to, but that length now is good" meant "cut 5 more inches off." It ended up being the Great Depression of haircuts, with no wiggle room left for it to be fixed. After two months of research and wearing a hat out in public, I found a well-reviewed master barber in St. Paul that, for less than half the time/cost of Taj, delivered the best haircut I think I've ever received in my life. I will continue to patronize that shop until I am no longer able to grow hair. Cool and modern men's cuts are most definitely not Taj's forté, and it took me far too long to realize that. It just wasn't cutting it for me anymore. The head/shoulder/neck/arm massages were outstanding, though. read more

Another excellent experience at Taj! I love coming here, it is so relaxing and they really give you the spa treatment. I came for a haircut, which started with a nice scalp massage followed by a wash. For the months of January and February, they are offering a FREE deep conditioning treatment. I love anything free! While the conditioning treatment was working it's magic, I relaxed with a warm towel over my eyes and a hand massage. I really like the haircut Nicole gave me. Plus, I was impressed that she was willing to take the time to make sure it was exactly how I wanted. After she was finished cutting my hair, I decided I wanted another inch taken off, and she had no problems taking the extra time. read more

I've been to Taj Salon twice- Brooklyn Park once and Minneapolis once. The staff is polite, but that is about it. The person I had was the same for both of the below services (I forget her name). She is super sweet, but was clearly still in training. Services I had: facial, lower leg waxing Facial was not great. I could feel a roughness of my skin afterwards. It didn't include any extractions. I was thinking, "did I have anything done to my skin?" Lower leg waxing- I no longer have dense hair growth, but she was skipping areas and leaving a striped pattern on my legs. So I asked her to not skip portions on the 2nd leg. And the technique used to pull the wax with the hair was not the best (wrong angle among other things) causing her to go at it multiple times. Lower legs took 40 minutes. For the cost, it would have been better to go to a European Wax Center. Oh well, I tried twice and not going to return. read more

I wrote a review about a month ago complaining about the guy that I had do my hair. It was wrong of me to post such a review without talking to the owner Adriana and giving her a chance to find a solution to the problem. After posting my review she reached out to me and offered to do the color for me. I still say that the gentlemen that I had was very unprofessional, rude and had a didn't give a damn attitude. All I have to say it is a good thing he is no longer there. Also, the salon is a favorite of mine, it has been since 2008. Update as of 11/8/17. I've removed, cleaned, and reapplied my extensions by myself twice now. Effortless process, takes about 30 minutes to remove them yourself, remove the old tape, wash and air dry till the next day, apply new tape and then put them back in sandwich style. Removal serum cost $14. Tape cost $6. Takes less time and I don't have to drive anywhere. I also purchased new high quality human hair extensions myself online for a fraction of the cost. Kinda kicking myself for not just doing this initially, but thank you Taj for propelling me into action to do so via your silly mishandling of the situation. read more

I went to Taj Salon and Spa for the first time to have my hair colored and balayaged. I am very particular about my hair color as I have lots of grey to cover and want it to look natural yet have all the grey gone! Taj did not disappoint with their service and I am very happy with my results. Kristen did a great job on my hair color and I am very happy with the results. I was so pleasantly surprised with the amazing shampoo experience! They put essential oil on the neck during the great neck and scalp massage. They also do a hand and arm massage with every shampoo and then finish with a refreshing toner to wake up. I also got a great gift bag with samples and coupons for my return. Really great touch! I have been going to Taj regularly for about two years. I always have my hair foiled and cut. The lady who has recently been doing it is Angie and she does a GREAT job. The service otherwise is AWFUL. I had received an email offering 20.00 off my next service over $75.00. There was no statement on the offer saying that I had to print and bring it in. It said to click on the button and make my appointment online. I did so. I had also received a gift card from my neighbor for $100.00. My service total including a product I purchased was 252.00. Upon checking out I requested that they remember to credit me the $20.00. The check out person said that if I didn't have a copy or on my phone she could not credit me. I asked to see the manager. The manager came out, asked my email address...she looked it up and said that she could tell that I had not received an email from them. I said, OK, please have the owner call me. I went home and printed out the email and confirmation notice. No one ever called me so I wrote a letter to the owners. No response. I was so embarrassed and upset to be treated as if I were trying to cheat them. It was a terrible experience. Please stay away from Taj if you expect to be treated with respect and honesty. read more

I have been to Taj in Brooklyn park twice and to Mpls once. The Brooklyn Park Taj has been a huge disappointment. The first visit was with Katy who over processed my hair resulting in breakage near the scalp after highlights. And the haircut was awful; I asked for side swept bangs and she just chopped a chunk off the side of my very long hair. I literally went home and cut bangs. Bangs! Because it looked like a trailer park hair cut. Did I call back and try to get it fixed? No. I took it in stride- wrote it off. The salon called back to re book and then I said I would not rebook with Katy. The owner called me shortly after and offered a re- do I informed her I had a groupon in Mpls. I went to Mpls and this 18-22 year old was awesome. She gave me the cut and highlights I wanted. I decided to give Taj another chance. I booked In BP with Reka for an inverted bob. I have had 3 before. This one was horrible; uneven and hacked off in the back. The front looked like a completely different cut from the back. I made an appointment to have it fixed- blended, but the stylist who cut it was not available so I booked with someone else. Lisa informed me I would be charged for a whole new haircut! Perhaps my mistake was by being too polite. I told her it was my hair. She ran with it and said it was a colic. And said she spoke with the other Stylist and it was my fault Please. I could post photos. I have had no free services. Just bad hair stylists and bad customer service. Obviously I will find a better salon with better stylists and customer service. read more

Well, I am back to let you know the negative sides to TAJ, first of all their turnover rate of employees is horrible and second I had my hair done there for about six months but they have something called dimensional color which is like $115.00, after 4 tries I decided to go back to my faithful high and lowlight as I have very fine short hair and could not tell a difference. My stylist refused to adjust the price and there is a difference, when I mentioned this to management they offered me $20.00 off a facial with the manager. The manager gave me a facial with paprika after I told her that I had extremely sensitive skin and I washed it with baby shampoo because everything else was too harsh. I complained during the facial that my skin was burning, she did nothing. My skin was red and burning for three days after that, I had to take two days off work. Never again! read more

Do not order products from this place. I placed an order with the owner and had also scheduled a haircut with her. The package never arrived and she basically punished me by refusing to issue a full refund. She said she didn't feel like it since she said it was the post office's fault and didn't take any responsibility for what had happened. She also texted me a tracking receipt which could've been anybody's order since I could not see it clearly. She also never saved my address for verification purposes, she was also very rude and upset with me because I challenged her actions. It took me 3 or 4 weeks to finally give me my refund. We basically verbally argued over it for some time. After all this I do not trust Andria the owner to give me a beautiful haircut. I cancelled all my upcoming appointments and would never give them a cent more of my money. Cierra also butchered my hair and hair to grow it out all over again. This was a previous appt so that also should tell you that Taj is worthless. Do not book with Andria or Cierra, they are terrible, uncaring people when it comes to hair care. You should never order products from Taj, they won't get delivered and Andria will say it's your fault. Overall terrible, awful experience at Taj, they like to cheat disabled people like myself out of a mere 25 bucks. 25 bucks is nothing to her, but its a lot for me since I'm on a fixed income getting SS payments only. So basically. Andria who I'm sure is loaded likes to discriminate against the disabled who are on fixed incomes. I know this review is long, but I had to get it off my chest. read more

I have never been so disappointed in a hair salon in my life. I brought pictures of what I wanted done, color and haircut. Not even close to what I asked for. It was a man that did this horribly poor job. He spent most of his time talking and texting his husband about speakers to bring to him for his phone radio. I asked for highlights he put in a ton of low lights. I was trying to cover up my gray which I never had a hard time before. I walked out of there looking like I did when I came in. I am not one to complain but I went to Great Clips today to get it cut like I wanted it and it turned out great. To bad they don't do color. She actually laughed at the color job he did. I had 3 tiny pieces of blond on top....but under it was there a little bit more. I pd 140.00 for nothing and I mean nothing. He said it was his last day there so he didn't as he put it give a sh** about the rest of his day. I will never step ft in that place again. I was in there in 2009 and another Gentleman did my hair, it was the best color and haircut I've ever had in my life. But, this place has really taken a nose dive since then. There was another woman there that had returned because she wanted purple in her hair and it turned red instead. She was getting a color correction and another girl stylist kept coming up while he was doing my hair asking him what to do. He said after she walked away he didn't give a damn. I've only been to Taj in BP once before and that was an average experience. Today I walked in hoping to get a hair cut. There were two women at the front of the store and one greeted me nicely enough...told me they didn't have another walk in available for about an hour and I said I would come back then. After returning, this time walking in and getting weird looks from three of the four women in the room(not including the original employee)...IDK is it weird to see a man in a salon? I was greeted this time by another woman at the counter who would not let me engage the original employee...asked what I wanted and I told her I'd love a haircut. She looked at me blankly and after a few seconds asked me "You want a what?" I said I was just in here and that this other employee told me to return at this time. She snarled as she looked at her computer and said we won't have any walk ins for another 5 hours. I said good day and walked out with no other discussion. It was less about the availability and so much more about the attitude. My wife, myself and our three kids will not be coming back. We had another salon we liked and tried this as it was a bit closer to our new home. read more

I had Vanessa as my stylist and she was the best. The salon is amazing and luxurious and I will always come back for more haircuts and colors. The moment I walked in I was nervous because I had never gone there before, but the nice people there instantly made me feel like I was in the comfort of my own home. Then as I moved on to getting my hair washed they had me sit in a comfortable chair and they said would you like lip balm? I waited a moment before responding but I said yes and it was a very good quality lip balm and had lots of moisture. After that I laid down and they put a warm cloth over my head then they said would you like a arm and hand massage I said yes and it was great. Then they brought me over to her station and I got the best haircut of my life I am so happy I went here and I will always will be. Just be careful when you are buying promotions from them. Their recent Living Social deal confused several people I know - including my husband. When I posted my issue on my Facebook page, several people complained about their Groupon deal as well. They really do need help in understanding basic Marketing and Customer Service. I was willing to forego the promotional value and just take the monetary value for regular services at the location in my neighborhood (we really want our local businesses to succeed) but they were unwilling to do even that! They want to promote their Minneapolis location, I understand, but they shouldn't risk losing the customers they have in order to gain new customers. I was able to cancel my vouchers through Living Social and get a full refund. It's just a bummer because I was doing more work to save my business than they were. I have had good experiences in their spa before but I haven't decided if I'll return because of how unwilling they were to honor the money I had already spent with them - even when I said I would pay full price! read more

i've been back in MN for almost 2 years and hadn't found any hairstylist that knew what i really wanted. i first made my appt with another hairstylist but it didn't come out the way i wanted. so then they referred me to one of the owners and that's when i met Tasia. Nice people - awful nail service. The staff is nice and friendly but for $50.00 plus tip for a shellac I was totally unimpressed. There are no dedicated nail techs - the mani/pedi space is small and cramped and I have had two extremely crappy manicures. The polish application is spotty and does not even cover the whole nail. I gave this place two chances and I would not recommend this place for nail services at all. Help me find somewhere else please! I first visited this salon during the summer of 2013 and found a great stylist. She listened carefully, checked out the photograph of the medium-length hair style I wanted to try, cut my hair, and it looked great from the moment I walked out of the salon. But good stylists are in high demand so she just recently left the salon, and then I was placed with a different stylist. My hair now has very short layers at the crown of my head and the back was "texturized." Anyone who knows anything about fine hair knows what this means. Once hair is gone, it is gone, and now I need to try to make it work until all that hair grows out again. In addition, I have these odd straight blunt cuts on the bottom that were to be angled (as they were expertly done previously by my first stylist). Needless to say, I know my hair will grow back so it isn't the end of the world, but this is the type of cut you would expect from a cheap hair salon.
