We had Volcano Roll (poor taste), Shrimp Shumai (poor starchy outer portion w fair tasting shrimp, w better food from Safeway counter), Krab Rangoon (?no crab or other fish?), Avacado Mango Salad (pretty good as a simple offering of lettuce, mango, avo w yuzu dressing), and Edemame (fair to good, as a little overcooked, but this happens sometimes). Went here for a hibachi table and pretty impressed. The cook was very personable and made the dinner. The cooks laugh was very contagious and there would be times we would just be laughing with him about nothing. The food was pretty good. The chicken was a little over cooked and chewy and we never got a side of regular white rice for one person in our party but I think we can definitely look past that. A fast favorite of my children, we have been to Takura over a dozen times since moving to the Vero Beach area. Whether it be the hostess, our server, Hibachi chef, or the manager - it's five star service each and every time. Delicious food and huge portions, we are always taking something home. Whether it's our kids taking home some of their kids Hibachi meal (they always order Shrimp) or the parents who can never seem to finish a complete meal, dinner means guaranteed leftovers in the Lewis household. The current manager - Louis - constantly exceeds expectations. Although not a popular drink at Takura, Louis sends a staff member to Publix for fresh mint when I order that late night Mojito. Mojito is - apparently - not on the menu, but Takara has always gone out of their way to make the drink when ordered. So much so that when making reservations, I'm asked what I will be drinking upon arrival. Clean restrooms and clean restaurant. Plenty of parking and great location on U.S. 1 in Vero Beach, Florida. My ONLY suggestion when visiting Takara is to make a reservation. The place is always busy and always packed. If you do not make reservations, expect a long wait. Reservations ensure quick seating - we have never waited more than a few minutes from our actual reservation time when calling ahead. Dreadful from the moment we arrived for lunch. Got there as they were opening the door for the day at 12:00 and we were told to have a seat and wait. After waiting a while we asked a different person if they were really open and we were taken to our table at 12:10. We got our drinks and made our orders. The salad was decent, but the chicken broth soup has a fishy taste so I didn't have more than a small taste. The chef showed up around 12:40 to start our meals. We had a party of 22 people on Mar 2nd. Pesi was the cook and the service was horrible. He was not friendly at all, fire and sake was the only show we received and I asked if he was having a bad day. But overall it was understandable with the place being crowded on a Sunday night . Still a lot better then Fujiyama and a lot more food for the price . The sushi is tasteless and the service is both lacking and unhygienic. Neither the server, sushi chef, or the manager was able to identify if the eel was fresh water or salt water (!!! This is basic sushi knowledge!!!). This should have been a hint for us to walk-out, but we stayed the course. As we watched our food being prepared, we watched the sushi chef (with his mask hanging off one ear and no gloves) EAT FOOD, PUTTING HIS HAND IN HIS MOUTH, MULTIPLE TIMES, WHILE PREPARING FOOD. At the very least this is just disgusting and given current circumstances this is a health hazard. We attempted to notify the manager who laughed it off as "Custom to eat with your hands." What?! Really?! Custom to eat with your hands while preparing food in a restaurant... Nope, that's customarily unsanitary. There is no reason to return here for the sub-par food and I would not return here because I value my health. My advise, do not risk eating raw fish from a place that has no grasp of maintaining a sanitary restaurant. read more

We've been a few times now. The decor is very modern, clearly they spent a load of cash to renovate this place. The food and service are both good. My husband goes for lunch periodically and likes the reasonably priced bentos. For dinner, we usually get a cooked dish and have never been disappointed. The rolls are good, always fresh and large portions. However, sometimes it seems like they think too far outside the box...like a sauce that tasted like Worcestershire sauce. We didn't care for that at all. We tried the sushi nachos last time, but the sushi was too sweet and the chips had to have been straight from a bag of Tostitos. I've had similar dishes where the tortillas are clearly fresh and made in house. There are other places we prefer, but I'm sure we'll go back to Samurai - over all it is fine. Watch out for the manager. He wanders around and loves to chat with customers...perhaps a little too much. read more
