I had a really bad experience at Take 5 Oil Change. My car was working perfectly fine before I went there. While I was there, they told me something was leaking and suggested I go to a nearby mechanic so I didn't ruin my car. I agreed because I wanted to be careful. However, after leaving, I pulled over to put my mechanic's address into my phone. When I tried to put my car back into drive, it wouldn't shift out of park at all. I called the Take 5 location to see if someone could come look at it since the issue happened right after I left, but they sounded annoyed and told me they couldn't help. I can't prove exactly what happened, but it's very suspicious that my car was completely fine before the visit and then suddenly had a major problem right after. My mechanic is now telling me the repair could cost around $3,000. I'm extremely frustrated and will never go to Take 5 Oil Change again read more

They'll leave your filter loose causing you to lose a ton of oil then won't take accountability for it. Looking at me as if I'm a crazy person with the dipstick in my face claiming they didn't add any oil to the engine. Not realizing that the tech showed me the dipstick at half not even an hour earlier. Then they have an attitude with me bc I'm not agreeing with this narrative because I know what I saw. Asking them to put my hood down so I can leave bc they obviously will not rectify the issue. This is why I never go to places like this unless it's the only option. Never again. Currently on the phone with corporate to get my refund. Ridiculous. My 8 year old nephew can do an oil change better than this. And the only reason it wasn't a bigger issue is because I caught it. So I'm not really sure why THEY have an attitude, they should be glad it was caught before my engine locked up. Also prior to deciding to just take it in for an oil change because it's cold out, I was going to do it myself. I was able to visually see for myself that my filter and filter housing were dry. When I brought it back to these guys it was very visibly wet obviously from oil. Please explain how that is possible if there were no leaks??? Or if the filter was not loose and installed properly? There's no reason there should be oil under my vehicle if this was done properly. But the assistant manager had the nerve to look at me, like I'm the idiot? Or like idk what I'm talking about. Right. Makes perfect sense. I will take this up as far as I have to in order to get my money back. This is beyond ridiculous. Below is a photo of after they dried off all of the extra oil. That is why the pan looks so clean. You can still see circled where some oil is left behind from wet to dry. How is this possible if there were no leaks? If this was installed properly it shouldn't leak at all. Also shown is a photo of my parking spot with fresh oil on the concrete. But there were no leaks right? This assistant manager should be fired for the way he handles discrepancies Only regret is not getting more proof of their mistake before they touched my truck again. Because they're doing whatever they can to avoid accountability. Didn't think I'd have to go through this to get someone to correct a mistake they made. It's a crazy world we live in today! FYI: If an oil change is done properly your undercarriage should not be wet AT ALL. Nor should the concrete beneath my truck have oil spots that weren't there prior. Such a relief to find this Take 5! Ohio had spoiled us when it came to oil changes. We had been flinching from pulling the trigger on an oil change for our newtous car after a bad experience taking my moms car to a jiffy lube. Why wasn't there a Take 5??? Siri did not seem to have ever heard of Take 5... Yelp to the rescue! Could it be? Yes! We are going back in on Wednesday because they were out of filters... but they checked our fluid levels and sent us off with a strong sense of confidence. First let me start by saying that the customer service at the Belmont location is better than some high end retail stores! Chris greeted me and offered me some water. He explained what kind of oil my car needed and gave me two options. He was able to show me the history of the car, and that it was in need of a coolant flush, which I agreed. Never again. Went in for an oil change, they loosened my drain plug and forgot to tighten it. the very next day my car died on the highway and I checked my oil and it was completely empty. Had to call a mechanic and ask him to stay open late for me, and got my car towed. When they jacked my car up, sure enough there was no drain plug underneath my car. Got lucky that my entire engine wasn't destroyed, but still with the tow and labor from the mechanic, the whole ordeal cost me $450 (granted could have been a lot worse if my engine blew). Regardless, I went back in to speak to the manager Trevon and he told me they couldn't help me out because when he looked at the cameras there wasn't a trail of oil coming out from my car and that because I went to a mechanic instead of back to them it voided the warranty (They were closed at the time I had to get it towed). He offered me "50% off my next oil change" like i'm dumb enough to let them touch my car again. read more

Went today to get my oil changed. Service was efficient and thorough. I was told I did not need my air filter changed. The tire pressure was checked and they checked the filter by the glove compartment - no other place has done this. I signed up for emails and had a $20 coupon. Will be returning. read more

I really only went here for the speed. They advertise only 10 minutes for an oil change. I got there, only 2 cars in the garage. There were two people only apparently both working on the same car. Then another person came to also work on the same car. I'm like wow how many people do you need on one car. It took at least 30 mins to get serviced. I ended up spending a hour so I will not be going back. They will charge you for the premium full synthetic oil because they don't have full synthetic in economy. They will try to tell you your car only takes the premium one when that is not true. In reality they just don't carry the economy one because they don't want to. This experience just made me want to try doing my oil change at home or at another shop They need to stop advertising something they can't provide before they get sued for fraud and false advertisement. read more

They gave me a song and dance about there being acid or something in the coolant. Showed me pictures of my "foggy" trans fluid. My fault for falling for their unethical dishonest sales scheme. Was looking for a place that could do an oil change on short notice - most repair places were too busy and I didn't want to go to a Jiffy Lube for $50. Saw this place on Yelp and also noticed a discount if I were to mention Yelp - so this place was looking pretty good for less than $40. So I headed over to the place. There was a crew of four there, all of them worked on my car in varying roles, so I was in and out fairly quickly. Nice group of guys - helpful and all pretty pleasant. One of them showed me my air filter and asked if I wanted to replace it - I told him I was just there for an oil change today - that ended the upsell, I was happy about that. So I was there maybe 20 minutes, everything was pretty straightforward. I'm not really fond of these quick lube type places, but this one was pretty good. Glad to give them five stars - about the best quick lube place that I've seen. read more

On 9/16 I arrived at Take 5 oil change at 5400 W Belmont Ave Chicago IL to receive an oil change. I brought my own oil Rotella T-6 5w40 oil and own oil filter. Technicians replace oil filter and oil and when completing they spent a lot on time at the oil filter and was looking like they were having difficulty. Also using compressed air. Once completed the truck showed low oil pressure, which they have never been issues in the past. The acting manager tried checking a few things and looked up on youtube that my pressure was fine and I had a defective oil pressure sensor. I still questioned the problem and he assured me they only changed the oil and everything was fine and they couldn't do anything else. I left and called the dealer 1 mile away to bring my truck in for service and check what was wrong. The following day they completed the repair and it was a loose oil filter causing the low oil pressure and I had lost 2.5 quarts of oil from the 1 mile drive over to the shop. They drained the oil and installed fresh oil and tightened the oil filter. Also completed some outstanding manufacture recalls. The following day I returned to Take 5 oild change and talked with manager Sam who check video footage and felt that they followed all procedures in the service and they are not at fault. I stated that the dealer found oil filter loose and their acting manager incorrectly stated that everything was fine and only the oil sensor was bad. Had I taken Take 5s diagnosis that all was fine and drove more then what I had there would have been fatal damager to the engine. Take 5 is at fault with not correctly tightening the oild filter and if they did tighten to torque spec without pre lubing the seal they could have receive a false torque reading. I am out $51 from a poor service at Take 5 and an additional $260.63 service at my local dealer for diagnosis and repair. Take 5 still is not taking responsibility for their poor actions. read more

I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the crew and especially the Regional Manager (Sam). I received an oil change on the 3/16/25 from Take 5 on Belmont in Chicago. It was my first time going there, due to my regular shop being closed. Chris and everyone were very pleasant and efficient. I was told after they changed my oil that I needed coolant because it was very low. I really couldn't afford it but I believe in maintaining my car because it's been difficult financially for me, and I depend on my car to get to and from work. I paid a little over $200. Everything seemed to be fine until I was on my way to work on Wednesday and smoke started coming from my hood and my dashboard was telling me that my engine was overheated. Well, immediately it scared me to death and I thought it must be something they did wrong when I got my oil changed. Also, as a women we hear of auto shops taking advantage and upcharging women for things they don't need or doing thing so you have to come back. So please understand my skepticism. I immediately called Take 5 and told them what my issue was. He told me to look under my car to see if anything was leaking, and it was. MJ told me it must be antifreeze. Well I was upset, but they were very understanding. I went to work and they called and told me that they would tow me all the way from Oak Brook and get their mechanic to look at it. If it was no fault of theirs I would have to be responsible for whatever the issue was. I was afraid of what the cost would be because I probably wouldn't be able to afford it and I could possibly lose my job if I couldn't get to work. Well, to make this long story short. I went to the auto shop with my car, the mechanic looked at my car and said it was some wear on the hose, but it was nothing Take 5 did to cause it. It was just bad timing. Then the mechanic said, I have some good news, Sam is going to pay for the cost to get it repaired. I don't want to mention how much it was to repair, but I'm telling you it was a pretty penny, not cheap. I believe in God, and let me tell you God answered my prayers. In a World where so many people are out to take advantage of you, I now believe there are still good, decent and upstanding people too. Sam did not have to do what he did, but he did above and beyond just to make sure I was satisfied. That's what I call good business ethics and practices. I appreciate and thank him from the bottom of my heart! I got the opportunity to speak with him and he truly is a great guy. Take 5 has a customer for life with me. It should be a complimentary beer for the price tag on the service. No wonder I couldn't find prices on their website. I wouldn't fathom a place higher priced that Jiffy Lube, but here they are. My wife and I have been using Take 5 for oil changes every 3,000 miles even though most car manufacturered recommend 5,000 or more. We started with this outfit years before they got bought out and was still Superlube. We recently did an oild change before they went out of town to take our child to college. We were only gone 4 days. Got back in town and we get a check engine code for missfire. Then my wife noticed a "tapping" sound from the engine. I check the oil and low and behold, no oil. We immediately called Take 5 and they said don't drive it. They sent a tow truck and took it to the local GMC Dealer (The car is a Yukon XL Denali). The GMC place sent Take 5 Internediate "Service Response" the total cost of repair of $14,500.00. and they still took a total of three weeks to get back with us to say that we could not prove they were liable. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Now they are saying all repairs, rental and diagnosis is all on us. So know we have to hire an lawyer to sue these guys ove an oil change mistake on their part. THATS HOW THEY TREAT LOYAL CUSTOMERS. The manager wont even speak to us even though he knew his staff did something wrong. He said he could not talk to us because it was a "LEGAL" issue. RUN FROM THESE SERVICE CENTERS. THE HAVE A LOT OF YOUNG INEXPERIENCED WORKERS MESSING UP CARS. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD US THEY PICK UP AT LEAST 4 CARS A WEEK DUE TO THEIR MESS UPS! Don't go here, unless you want to be taken for a ride, that's why it's called take 5, or in my case take 50. I came here was told my car only takes synthetic oil which is over 100 bucks for an oil change!! I told the guy no I want a standard oil change (50 bucks) when I was told your buying our synthetic oil or here's the door. I chose the door. Was going to bring another car here but I don't feel like getting gouged, so they have lost my business forever. BTW, I went down the street and got my oil change at Pep boys for 41 bucks, almost a 3rd of this jokers price. I'll be bringing my other car there as well.
