On June 24, 2026, at approximately 8:00 AM at the Car-X Tire & Auto located at 3244 W Irving Park Rd in Chicago IL This morning, I was briefly dropping my young children off at the daycare located next door to this facility. I was stopped for less than seven minutes and was completely clear of the garage entrance. An older gentleman with glasses, who I understand to be a staff member or manager at this location, approached my car claiming I was "blocking" his parking space. There were vehicles packed closely in front of me, meaning I physically had nowhere to move. When I respectfully explained that I only needed two minutes to finish with the children, the man escalated the situation. He marched up to my driver-side door and aggressively attempted to swing my door open. This behavior is not only wildly unprofessional, but it is also a hostile physical violation of my safety. As a young 22 year-old woman alone, I felt incredibly threatened by a middle-aged man attempting to breach my vehicle. Do Better. read more

I just have to say that I continue to love this shop. Nelson is mainly retired now, but he comes in some days. The other guys here are all awesome, too. There have been so many times I've pulled in for air in my tires or a light on my dashboard, and they refuse to even charge me. They also gave me a phenomenal deal on tires. They matched the Costco price AND gave a discount. I don't know much about cars, so I worry about being taken advantage of somewhere, but it's not a concern here. They damaged the wheel lug nut while removing and then ask me to pay for their mistake without even apologizing, just by saying it was over-tighten!!. Took my car in because it kept dying. Told them on day 1 (and every subsequent time I went in) that I thought the problem was related to some issues with my lock mechanism contantly drawing power. I was told repeatedly that they looked into it and that couldn't be the cause. What follows is a months-long ordeal in which they continuously suggest new fixes that don't work, take thousands of dollars from me, meanwhile my car is dying multiple times a week and I'm needing to jump it constantly just to get to work. Multiple times my vehicle died while in transit and I had to have it towed. All the while they assure me the answer is just around the corner. Finally, I lose patience and take it to another shop. As I'm leaving Car-X for the last time I hear a noise from the hood. At the new shop I am informed that Car-X literally did not finish their recent parts installations, pieces are just flying around and have caused significantly more damage. Not only that by my initial guess was correct and the entire issue was caused by the lock mechanisms draining power. At this point I have spent so much money for Car-X to not fix the issue that I don't have enough for the actual fix. I've had to spend hundred just to repair their work. When I called to explain the issue, Nelson refused to discuss it and had me talk to Sam who flat out refused to refund me a cent. They of course offered to fix their work under the warranty but at this point they had cost me so much I had to cut ties. I can say without a doubt that walking through the doors of this establishment was the most destructive financial decision I have made in my life. They cost me thousands of dollars and months of stress not knowing if my vehicle would work that day or break down mid-drive. They clearly either lied about checking into the lock mechanism or were careless enough to miss what the other shop was able to diagnose in an hour. It is INSANE to me that they refused to refund a thing after all this, especially considering that they literally did not install parts correctly and caused further damage to the vehicle that I am STILL paying to have repaired. So... My relationship with this shop started off great. All of my cars and most of my family's cars have been coming to this location for years. 10 to be exact. It stops now. I bought one of my cars new. A year into having it this shop started doing everything including the warranty work. Inside of the last few years or so management (and corporate as I've been told) has changed. Since then, it seems that I can not get my car issues addressed OR FIXED. Instead either (1) I'm told that I have a list of other(more important) things to fix or (2) they start the job THEN I get a phone call with the news that I need to spend at least another $500 on top of whatever I'm paying for already ... THEN... the issue I was trying to address is still not fixed PLUS now there's something new happening. One issue, in particular, I've literally spent thousands of dollars (during the course of approximately 1 1/2 yrs) to fix and still to this day it is not fixed plus something else is now broken. Also, I've caught the manager (Mr. S.) in lies, I've addressed when he would talk to me and during the conversation he'd start with one price then, by the end of the conversation, the price is up at least $100 - $200. When I addressed the fact that I felt robbed, he got loud and rude with me and even put his hands in my face. I merely told him I didn't want to see the screen because the price kept changing AND MY CAR STILL WASN'T FIXED. He then got loud and rude with my wife. We were not yelling at him. We were not rude to him. He then promised to replace a part. The issue was not resolved so I came back the next day to find out that the part was not changed AND another employee was about to return the new part to the part store. After all of that... THE ISSUES ARE STILL NOT RESOLVED! I've basically paid to have an entire system replaced in my car along with the most of another system serviced in the same car and I still have the same issues with both! Not ok!!! Now to start the search for a new shop. One where my issues will be addressed AND I won't have to worry about being lied to, tricked, or assaulted. Also, I got the number to their regional manager. Mr. S gave me the number. I also looked it up and it was the correct number BUT... no answer & no way to leave a voice message ... I still have no one to try and resolve my issues with this company considering all of the time and money I've spent. read more

I have never experienced someone so belittling and rude than Sam the manager at this location. My partner had called ahead and confirmed that not only were we coming in with a prepaid Groupon for just an oil change and a tire rotation, but confirmed that they had an open appointment at 11am. I get there around 11, one of the technicians incorrectly writes some of my information down on a paper and walks away. I sit there for another 30ish minutes on the phone before they come in and ask for my keys. Another 20 goes by and he comes back in to tell me something else was wrong with my car. I ask if I can go back and see my car, to which Sam replies yes. They already had the leak test with smoke set up on my car as I'm walking up. He tells me that I have a small leak somewhere and they have to check it out. I reply "okay got it", not confirming the test to be done, but to reply to his statement. I go to sit down for another 30 before they call me over again to show me where the smoke is coming from. He then tries to quote me over $500 +$151 on maintenance to fix it, to which I decline. He then goes back out to lower my car, and comes back in saying I owe them $99.99 for the smoke test I did not confirm. When I asked him when I confirmed this, he started to get very irate, saying there were witnesses saying that I confirmed it, and that they "had cameras". The 'witness' he brought in wasn't working on my car, near my car, or in any prior conversations. I then caught Sam in a lie, he stated that he had told me the price of the service prior to doing it, and he did not tell me the price until he was trying to ring me up. I tried to have a civil conversation telling him that I did not confirm that maintenance for my car, and he continued to try and intimidate me and say that since I don't want to pay for the extra service I did not confirm, I don't get my property. He then took my keys from underneath the counter where he hid them, pulled my car in the middle of the shop, and had other technicians block it in with other cars. At this point he started talking to all the other mechanics and refused to acknowledge me, come back into the office, or give me my keys he was holding. I ended up having to call the police, and as soon as they showed up, he was on the phone, with whom I'm assuming was his supervisor, lying to him and saying that "he was okay with everything" Both my partner and my father were on the phone with me for nearly the entire time, after almost 2 hours, he finally gave me my keys and let me go, and the police escorted me out to make sure I was safe. I have truly never met someone who is that okay with lying and intimidating customers to the point of the law being called on them. And after all of this I didn't get a receipt so I don't even know if they actually did my tire rotation and oil change that I prepaid for. Please please please AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

They got it the tires mounted, balanced and on the car in the amount of time it took me to get food from Ruby's Fast Food around the corner (granted it was a long wait due to COVID). If you go through Tire Rack, which I love, just make sure that you write down the price quoted by the Tire Rack rep, as it may be different from the price on the Tire Rack website for this installer, as it was for me. I have been bringing my car here for years because they keep saving me money. For example: Dealership: You need a new compressor. $1300 please. Car-X: Your compressor switch was broken. We just replaced that part. $130 plus tax. They have always stood by their work, so if for whatever reason the repair was done incorrectly or the new part was a dud, they will make it right. Actually, I wasn't intending on writing a review this morning when I got here but, I just have to mention something out of constructive criticism for the business owner(s) here. I came in at 9am. I get it, it's early. I'm glad I got a good value for the oil change I got. The one thing that makes me just not wanna come back here again is how rude the front desk guy was. He seemed like he was unhappy to be there or.. mad that I came there? It was very strange. I've never met someone who didn't care about how they were coming across so irritated and annoyed? But for what? I wanted to mention how my roommate told me good things about this place but barely got one word out. Disappointed by how I was treated as a customer and generally confused why this guy (with glasses and front facing hat, beard), was seemingly putting forth his energy into being rude to someone paying for a service. I left after 30 minutes.. only one guy was working. I ended up going across the street to get my car serviced and the way I was treated there was night and day compared to here. Don't worry call the Car x man! I was finally able to use my Groupon for an oil change, tire roation, all over inspection and wiper blade change. In and out in just under an hour. Reservation was necessary because that service is quoted at an hour. The guy who greeted me, John, I believe, was friendly and explained things to me. With the wiper blade change, it the Groupon only came with up to a 24 inch wiper, I seem to have a teeny tiny one and a giant 28 incher. THey were fresh outta 28 inchers but offered to have me pay the difference ($6) and drop in whenever I could the following day for the big wiper. No complaints from me. I see they also have $19 oil changes. I'll likely be back. Good waiting area too. read more

Told the guy I had a $19.99 oil change coupon. Said no problem. Different guy comes back AFTER oil change is completed and says the total would be $69. Tells me that only an upgraded synthetic will work for my car and didn't feel the need to tell me before he did the work about an extra $50 charge for an oil change. I have had multiple places say a conventional oil change is just fine for my car. Ended up settling for $33 after arguing. Felt like a classic bait and switch. Took my car in about a week ago after I had it looked at by another mechanic. Heard some good things about this spot and the guys that work here. Jesse and Nelson took me and the car in right away, gave me the correct diagnosis and went and got the part personally. They had me come back the after the weekend and fixed my air conditioner so fast and for less than half the price of the other place. Jesse even fixed my windshield wipers and added the fluids for me. So kind and helpful. I really did not feel like they were trying to be anything but truthful and deliver amazing service.
