If it wasn't an emergency I'd have left at that moment, but the entire service from the greeting through the rest of the interaction felt like it was a bother. I went to Take 5 Oil Change for a routine oil change and ended up with over $900 in damage and three days in the repair shop. My car had no issues beforehand, but immediately after the oil change it was no longer running properly. I filed a claim and was told a regional manager would contact me--never happened. Instead, I received a denial letter about a "timing belt," which was never my issue. It's clear they either didn't review my claim or mixed it up with someone else's. My calls and emails to correct this were ignored. Now I'm stuck paying for damage that happened right after their service. Poor communication, no accountability, and a very frustrating experience. read more

The oil change itself was fine but the tech didn't correctly attach my oil pan and splash guard back to the car. As a result a few of the bolts have fallen off and the piece is trapped between the car and the road. The piece is now ruined and I'm out $400+ to get it repaired. read more

This is my second visit here and they have always been nice and even funny making me chuckle here and there. During the oil change, you stay in your car. These guys are usually on it, but left me to sit for 30 minutes today as other cars were pulled into their garage and started before acknowledging I was waiting on an oil change. They argued longer on which car was next, then the oil change took at take5 on Richmond once I got annoyed and left.... I eventually got out, closed my own hood and left to go down the street. It's bipolar weather in Houston. I needed air removed from my tires. They were already above five psi of the recommended level, and it would get 20 degrees warmer. I overheard the guy telling the other that it made no sense and whatever else he said. I informed the new guy who came to service my car that I had overheard what was said. I think Take 5 charges a bit more than what you're paying for, and the same is definitely misleading. My oil change took about 20 minutes, which I think was a result of the technician watching a soccer game on his phone. Additionally the guy in front of me in line had to leave because they were taking too long, so this could've been a 45 minute affair. That said, I've always had a great experience service wise (outside of time). Take 5 has been reliable and trustworthy, for example today they removed my air filter, and told me that it didn't need replacing. The employees are nice and communicative, and want to make sure that you're taken care of. I don't know that I'll be coming back due to price and time taken. I went to get a quick inspection but ended up waiting for an hour before finally leaving. The staff didn't seem to acknowledge the long wait, perhaps because they're just employees who don't care about customer waiting times. The worst part is, I couldn't even get the inspection done because their machine was unresponsive and took forever. I had to ask them to stop so I wouldn't be late for my other appointment. I prefer not to be made fun of or criticized for the oil I choose to put in my car. When asked if I wanted high mileage oil, I said no. My mechanic whom I've been using over ten years with my car told me I did not need to pay for the premium oil. The guys all laughed and started making comments about it. You should never make someone feel uncomfortable or criticize them for a choice they make. You can offer information or advice but never criticize someone. I waited next in line for service for 25 minutes. When I inquired if something was wrong, the staff person dismissed my comment with "I don't know what you've experienced at other shops." I've experienced what the website says--a (less than) ten minute oil change, plus a few minutes for waiting. I've been to this location three times before. New staff must be poorly trained. Really great service! If you've never done this before, you'll drive up and get in line. A technician will ask what you are there for. You'll pop the hood. Once the bay is ready, they'll guide you in. You don't get out of your vehicle. The staff is all very friendly here and their work is clean, despite this being a dirty job (i know, as I was a mechanic for a few years). They will show you your oil quality, refill your fluids if necessary, and check things over. Does it take longer than 5 minutes? Yes. Does it take longer than 30 minutes? No. You don't want a 5 minute oil change anyway, I can assure you. Your wait is in your vehicle, so it may be warm depending on the Texas heat- you can't turn on your air when the service is being performed. I'm only saying this because somebody might get bent out of shape because they are asked to turn their air off. But an engine needs oil to run and not seize up, and technicians also don't need to get caught in moving parts. So if you can't hang out in hot weather, this isn't the service for you. If you can, I recommend it. My service ran right about $104. That was for everything- oil (synthetic) change, filter, lube, and wiper blades. They cleaned my windshield also. This beats going to the dealer and waiting 6 hours though. And dealers typically run you the same, if not more. You'll have peace of mind also- the technicians tell you (and show you) what they are doing. You won't get that at a dealership. The last time I went to a dealer for service, I caught them in a lie- they never rotated my tires or fixed my leaky tire. I know because I marked my tires. But you won't have that issue here. You see what's going on and the crew takes care of you. Do they fix all auto issues- no. They don't do tires, brakes, or engine service. This is just oil, filters, inspections, and wiper stuff. But you'll have confidence you'll be taken care of on those services. Give these guys a try and I think you'll be impressed. Also, the crew also wore masks and gloves. Most technicians wear gloves anyway, but just thought you'd like to know about the masks. read more

This is the best car service I have ever received. They were quick, well informed, polite, and they top off all of your fluids under the hood complimentary. I pulled up, didn't even have to get out of the car, and was handed a cold water bottle while one of the mechanics took down all of my vehicles information while the other immediately began draining the oil pan and preparing for the oil change. It didn't really "Take 5" but I was in and out in perhaps 30 minutes tops. I can imagine this not going as smoothly if they were more crowded so I would avoid peak times such as weekend mornings.
