Since Annandale has so many karaoke spots, I asked for a recommendation from my cousin, and she said Cafe Chocolate has the better music, etc. She said since there's only 5 karaoke rooms, getting reservations is best, and that the rooms were about $40/hour. I called them about 2 days before, and they said they didn't take reservations and that it was first come first serve. Hm, okay. My cousin thought, well, maybe they recently changed that policy. My coworkers decided then that we'd come right after work to make sure we could get a room. Firstly, we get there and they tell us it's $60/hour, no matter if we get the smaller room or the medium sized room. Why are both rooms the same price? Second, the menu is mostly bar food and no actual food. We just came from work and we were really hungry. Not to mention, the prices were terrible. It was like $9 for a plate of fries. The worst is that even though we were already contemplating trying somewhere else to go, the people explicitly suggested to us "maybe you should go somewhere else." They didn't even want us? Our theory was maybe because we weren't planning to get drunk, that we weren't worth using up a room. Who knows. Also, I told my cousin about all of this, and she was pretty shocked. She also went here last weekend, and they definitely only charged her $40/hour. Now I'm pretty convinced they just didn't want our business for some odd reason or other.

One of the things that makes them stand out is the creative blend of ingredients and flavours that most other bakeries don't have. And they have classic offerings that are hard to find elsewhere, such as the banan cream bun which now apparently has slices of real bananas in addition to the already outstanding banana cream filling. Service is always friendly and courteous, and the fact that this is not a big chain of stores adds more credibility in my book. I hope they stay open for many more years.

We headed out early Saturday morning to find this retail space. It's not clearly marked but Scoops2U is also Royal Popcorn. When you see the building marked 5410, go to the door marked Scoops2U. They recently opened up the front office space but their warehouse has been around for over 20 years. Their business is primarily selling ice cream for private events. The friendly gentleman in the office took our order and said he could put it together in a matter of minutes. We placed a small order and said we would return later. When we arrived, our order was ready and those big bags of goodness were tempting to just pop open before heading to the car. I sampled a few bits from the desk and could tell that they were going to be awesome. I'm hoping that the kids at my niece's laser tag party will appreciate these bags of cheddar, kettle corn, and plain popcorn. Pricing is very reasonable at $5-$7 a bag. I wasn't helped until another employee came out of the kitchen to assist a different customer. She then went behind the counter, chatted briefly with her coworkers, noticed me waiting, and finally asked if I was picking up an order. The food has also changed. I used to buy the strawberry crepe for my daughter almost every weekend because we loved it. This time, it was soggy and overwhelmingly sweet, with far too much topping and syrup. It no longer has the same quality it used to. The omelet was still decent and about the same as before, but the cappuccino was bland and forgettable. Nothing about it stood out.
