This review is for the Sinplicity food truck that was at an event I attended. I saw that they had ice cream sandwiches, and I was hooked! There's always time for some dessert. The food truck menu had a solid amount of different ice cream flavors and cookies for making your own ice cream sandwich/sinwich, or you could try one of their specialties, which is what I did. I love brownies, so ordered the big ass brownie sinwich, which consisted of brownie-based cookies, sandwiching coffee ice cream with some crushed almonds and chocolate syrup on top. Like most ice cream sandwiches, it gets messy, so ate this with a spoon and considered myself lucky. The brownies were the best part of the sandwich, as the texture was soft and fudgy instead of a cake base, which is how I prefer brownies. The coffee ice cream was solid, but was more creamy than coffee. The crushed almonds on top helped add some crunch. I definitely shared this baby, as the portion was huge. But no regrets. If the ice cream sandwiches are this good, then I imagine the food that's catered is just as good or better. Glad to have discovered Sinplicity while I was in the DC area. read more

omgggg so happy people at work keep hiring this catering company. they have a nice variety of healthy (fruits, nutritious sandwiches, parfaits, nutty power bars, etc.) and unhealthy but yumalicious foods (sweet pastries, cakes, etc.). they also bring coffee, sugar, and creamer. the food has always been delicious and tasty, no matter which one i tried. i have been on a diet for months but i broke it badly today we throw events at my workplace often, so i'll be waiting in hungry anticipation until the next one. read more

When I called them the morning of and explained my error and the jam I was in, within 1 hour, Sinplicity put together breakfast for 50 people, had it delivered and set it up so there was only a 15 minute start time delay. Everything was beautifully presented as it always is. They also put together the hot buffet lunch for 50 people. Sinplicity saved the day and the event. Sinplicity and their team - they go the extra mile, with a smile, and they definitely have your back. Run - don't walk - to use them for your next event. Given all the options, I went in with a plan this time. Of course when I got to the truck, I threw those plans out the window! I rolled the dice and decided to go with one scoop of Madagascar Vanilla (clearly superior to those Tahitian and French varieties :-P) and one scoop Cappucino Crunch. OMG...I hit the motherload! Somehow, most of my ice cream survived the walk through the 100 degree sun. When I got to my desk, there was just enough melting to intermingle the flavors into what reminded me of fresh Tiramisu (not the kid-friendly kind...the real deal with alcohol). There was just the right balance between the buttery smoothness of the Vanilla and the richness of the Kahlua infused richness of the Cappucino Crunch. A purposeful blend may be suggested on my next visit! Amazing! This has become my go-to catering company for work events. It is the closest thing to not catered food and their lunch is the best I've had in any catering co. across the country for work functions. Their presentation is always on point, with signs letting customers know what might be best for them (whether gluten free, vegetarian, and I believe vegan), and the quantities are always sufficient, even for my voracious group. One recommendation is to request delivery a little earlier than your event. If you're a stickler for being 100% on-time, which I don't believe is a bad thing, they might not make the precise time. I have to say. Corporate America sometimes gets stuck in a bit of a rut. Especially when they are bringing in lunch for meetings. Around the middle of 2018 I was ready to scream if I saw one more salad or sandwich from Cosi or Fresh Connect. Then a group of contractors brought in lunch from Sinplicity caterers and I was HOOKED!! Yes, I still got sandwiches and salad, but it was such a great variety and they mix it up every month and every season. They once had a "Pig Poppy" thing that was chips and corn pops and bacon and a kind of candied drizzle. Staff members are constantly asking for it still!! They have a great array of sandwiches including things like, Thai Chicken wraps, Pulled pork on cornbread, Chicken salad with grape chutney, and the list goes on. They also have at least six or seven unique salad options to go with your meal and many have fun ingredients like asparagus, provolone and candied pecans. Then... there are their desserts. If you ever have an opportunity to try their toffee cookies, don't turn it down! Keto, Atkins and WW be darned... they are worth EVERY SINGLE point!! At this point you would think I was a paid spokesperson for this place, but I'm just a SUPER satisfied customer. Over the holidays they had HOMEMADE eggnog and sparkling punch. They even provided the punchbowl and they always provide serving utensils. Sinplicity also offers hot meals, appetizers, and pretty much anything you could want. I am totally going to order those options on of these days, but for quick workday lunches, the sandwich and salad options are just easier. Finally, the delivery people are extremely polite and helpful. They get things set up seamlessly and efficiently. I've never had any kind of a problem and at this point, I've ordered from this place at least 10 times. If I had anything "bad" to say... I wish they also had evening/weekend hours, because I recommend them to EVERYONE, but I've had people come back disappointed, because their events were outside of the 9-5 timeframe. Must-Tries/Haves: Strawberry Shortcake Biscotti w/ chocolate chips and Grand Marnier -- A perfect pairing of flavors and ingredients. Mocha Macaron "SinWich" w/ Cappuccino Crunch (w/ chocolate covered almonds and amaretto) - WICKEDLY, SINFULLY DELICIOUS!! -- The macaron itself was light and airy, but even more satisfying when paired with Cappuccino Crunch. Truckaroo Review - They say you should save the best for the last - this turned out to be my boon and bane at the same time! :( Sinplicity was definitely the best - so my wait till the end was worth it. But what also ended up happening was that they were out of ALL ice cream flavors, save the cookies and cream - Needless to say, that is what I got AND loved, but it also makes me think that the fact that this was the last man(aka flavor) standing, the other flavors that I did not get to taste were probably even better! And THAT would be saying something - since the cookies and cream was pretty freaking awesome! Ever since I got on board the Fro-Yo wave, ice cream has had some tough love from me! This place was definitely an eye opener - making me rediscover my love for ice cream! Creamy - yet light, not overly sweet - not under sweetened either - it was everything I could ask for in ice cream!!! Loved the biscotti on my ice cream as well. A few points: - This is strictly corporate catering, no home parties or weddings - Minimum order is flexible but if you need a number let's say 8 for cold items, 12 for hot - Items rotate seasonally and some others monthly. There's a nice rotating variety. - They cater to Northern VA and DC, sorry MD you're missing out! - They have waiters and bartenders at the ready for big events and have a wide variety of linens sourced from a third party Ok, now that we have our bases covered - THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. The food is delicious, but light on the oil and cream. Our company has tried five other caterers recently including Windows (whom I also love, but came in a solid second to these guys), W. Millar (boring, too heavy/fatty), Pinstripes (crowd pleaser, low on creativity), Taylor Gourmet (terrible customer service), Panera (standard, good go-to). They have some big corporate accounts and I can see why.... The chef came personally to the pitch (none of the others did), they gave us little gifts to take with us, and every single person in the room agreed that their quality and choices were superior. We could all use a bit more Sinplicity in our lives. Sinplicity ice cream and sorbets was something I was introduced to by a former coworker more than two years ago. Handcrafted daily in Falls Church, VA, Sinplicity makes tasty ice cream and sorbet concoctions by hand. According to their website, all the recipes are "cooked entirely in house. With the exception of a little vanilla extract here and there to round out flavors, no compounds or extracts of any kind ever enter [the] kitchen." Not only does Sinplicity have stores in Falls Church and Reston, they also drive a food truck (which they call the Sinmobile) around Washington, DC and the DC metropolitan area. The food truck stops at Clarendon, Rosslyn, Crystal City, Ballston, Courthouse, Dupont Circle, and many other hot spots in the area. I ordered a Black and White Sinwich from Sinplicity. It's a blackberry macaron with blackberry compote and vanilla bean ice cream. The flavors worked so well together, giving the macaron a good amount of moistness, the blackberry compote a good amount of tang, and the vanilla bean ice cream the old-fashioned, classic flavor that complimented both the macaron and the compote. It might be 'sinful', but it's the kind of sin you want to indulge. read more

If I just order the ice cream/sorbet, I just feel like ehhh, it's ice cream. But when I order the Sinwich, I'm in heaven. Macarons and ice cream? Genius. Eating a regular macaron (even from Macaron Bee) will never be the same, because I will always think of Sinwiches, wondering where my ice cream is. The macarons provide the perfect crunch to the sandwich, without being too heavy, the way cookies would be. I've tried the Black & White, and the Tipsy Strawberry. Both were amazing, though the macarons on the Tipsy Strawberry were a little sweeter than I remember the Black & White being, but they got less sweet after each bite. I guess the ice cream balanced out the overly sweet macarons?! :) I'll take a sinwich from Sinplicity over an ice cream sandwich from Sugar Magnolia any day. read more

After lunch at District Taco, we noticed this truck parked across the street. Given that neither of us had even heard of it, obviously we needed to check it out. A small cup is $4 while a large is $6 and ice cream sandwiches (or "Sinwiches" as they call them) are $4.50. The cashier graciously let us try a variety of flavors. The salty caramel was delicious and rich, the wasabi with grand marnier was definitely interesting. If you're the adventurous type, definitely give it a try. I decided to go with the Mud Pie sinwich, which has cappuccino crunch ice cream layered with chocolate fudge on a mocha macaroon. It was good but I could have done without the fudge. I liked the chocolate chip one better than the sugar cookie (not too much of a pistachio fan and the lemon zest was more like dried lemon fruit...a little too sweet for my tastes.) However, I'm only giving three stars bc they were a bit pricey. I got two cookies for $3.30, when Whole Foods was only two blocks away and gives out equally good cookies for 99cents. Also, the GW farmers market has these really good giant thumbprint cookies that come in packs of 5 for 4$, and that was also only a couple blocks away. You're paying extra for the exotic flavors...so it all depends on what you're craving. read more

I adore this truck. I've been going since they first started coming around and one taste of their Madagascan vanilla made me an addict for life. I look forward to their weekly roll arounds in Rosslyn and make it a point to try each flavour. My fav's are the vanilla, the strawberry and cappuccino crunch. The biscotti served with the ice cream is also delicious and a good complement. I remembered that I've heard of the actual place before and wanted to try it out but never did, so I decided to try it out while I am there. A big selection of ice creams and cookies, and the people in the truck are extremely friendly offering you samples etc. For $5 you get two scoops: I got the salty caramel and the snickerdoodle and they were delicious. I was able to sample the Sinplicity food truck at Truckeroo yesterday and I must say... I will be hunting them down MUCH more often. I ordered a small size cup of Mango/Rum sorbet, which came with a sweet, crispy piece of biscotti that perfectly complemented the cold dessert. My friend ordered a Sinwich--ice cream sandwiched between macaron cookies. Her particular flavor was the "Black and White", which consisted of blackberry macarons, a berry compote, and a berry ice cream. Both of these were absolutely delicious. The consistency of the sorbet was perfect, and didn't melt too fast even in the hot weather. It wasn't too sticky either, as I've encountered with other sorbets. While I could definitely taste the fruit flavor, I also caught hints of spices, herbs, and the small dose of rum in the sorbet. My friend's Sinwich was sinfully good as well. The texture of the macaroons was fluffy and slightly chewy, and the ice cream was very creamy but also not easily melted. The berry flavors were definitely rich, but not overwhelming in the least. Both of these desserts were very memorable ends to Truckeroo, and I will be keeping up with this truck in the future. read more

I have a very low tolerance for bad ice cream. Consequently, I don't usually try it from untested places unless I'm reeeeeallllly in the mood. This past Thursday, at the end of a steamy DC day, I was reeeeeallllly in the mood. When I saw the Sinplicity truck outside the after-hours museum event we attended, there was no resisting. And good thing. The Sinplicity ice-cream sandwich knocked my taste buds on their keisters. The one I tried was strawberry ice cream sandwiched between berry macarons, with margarita sorbet/gelee spread on one of the macarons. It had some cute name like "Tipsy Strawberry." These sandwiches are huuuuuuge and would be perfect for sharing. I rallied to finish mine because it was so good. At $6, it cost more than the dinner (tacos) I would consume later. It was worth it. The truck had such a long list of unusual flavors that I wanted to try. Salted caramel stands out in my mind. Would Sinplicity consider a sister truck in Madison, Wisconsin? Sweet baby Jesus! I encountered this food truck at a food truck battle in Westport. I had the Cow Pie ice cream sandwich and nearly lost my mind! It's Belgian Chocolate Truffle ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate macaroons. The French-style macaroons were rich but light. I know what a pain in the butt making macaroons can be, so I appreciated these on their own. But, the ice cream just took it to a whole 'nother level. A party in my mouth...invitation only... As we were walking to our lunch destination, we passed by an ice cream truck parked on Fairfax Dr. A couple of young ladies manning the truck offered us a sample but we passed since we were still on the way to get our lunches. On our way back, I decided to eat a sorbet since I'm lactose intolerant and it would not be a good idea for my office mates if I ate ice cream. I had the mango sorbet and it came with a biscotti. The flavor was very good, not watered down fruit taste that is so often the case and the texture was that of quality and not a icy crystal texture that sorbets often have. They are apparently going to be parked all over the place so I am not sure how I'm going to get my loyal customer card stamped all of the time but I'll be sure to look for them in my lunch treks. read more

Not your frozen-food-section kind (albeit some of those are pretty good), but a customizable giant-sized ice cream tightly packed between two macaroon-textured cookies. Makes for a nice big bite, first with a chewy outer edge, then the tasty cold ice cream hitting your senses. Lots of flavors to choose from - can't really go wrong. I passed this truck while walking through Rosslyn at lunchtime because the hot chocolate caught my attention on a recent sunny but chilly day. I tried a free sample of the hot chocolate which was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. It was tasty, flavorful, rich but not overwhelming and it made me want to instantly curl up with a book, blanket and then take a nap. Then I started browsing the menu and found the cookie selection. I am a cookie lover. And I could not decide which cookie to try. So the super nice and friendly lady at the truck said since it was my first visit to the truck, I could try all of them for a special price. Can't remember the price but it doesn't matter because these were the best darn cookies I've ever had. Each one was just as wonderful as the other. Unbelievably good. It is really sinful. Gourmet cookies, all of them were superb. I haven't tried anything else here yet but I have a feeling it is fantastic, too. Just go get something here. read more

The line for this food truck at the Ice Cream Festival at Union Market was outrageously long. I discovered this place at Truckerroo and am glad I choose this place as my dessert. The Orange Cow and Cheesecake Truck looked so tempting, but to beat the heat, I charged up to this fantastic truck with light blue and calming colors, to eat my way to happiness. Man, I love a good food truck! Sadly, with the rapidly expanding DC food truck industry, some food truck quality has gone down the hill in recent months. This, I'm happy to report is not the case with Sinplicity. Sinplicity is amazing! (And I don't ever crave ice cream, or even have much of a sweet tooth!) You can taste the quality in the ice cream- no fake extracts, all real ingredients. And its so creamy! Tastes much more like a gelato then an ice cream. And very fresh. I imagine they made all of it this morning, thats how fresh it tastes. Portions are generous, but not overwhelming, and perfectly priced for the size and quality of the product- high enough to make it seem like a special treat, low enough to make you not regret buying it the rest of the day (calories and price wise)- $4 for a small (two scoopish size-not really small at all!), $6 for a large and $4.50 for some amazing looking ice cream sandwiches (made with macaroons and special ingredients! and berry/vanilla options for non-chocolate eaters!) I tried the Salty Carmel (delicious! not overwhemlingy sweet, or salty) and the Belgim Chocolate Truffle (you could taste the high quality choc they used!) And I sampled the Capuccanio Crunch (very espresso favored, less sweet option for those who don't have a big sweet tooth). And the best surprise of all is that they give everyone a free biscotti with their ice cream for a nice crunch. Other flavors they offered today that I remembered: -Madascar Vanilla -Thai Peanut -Wasabi w Grand Marnier -Blood Orange Sorbet with Grand Marnier -Blackberry Cabernet Sorbet -Lemon Ginger Sorbet with Rum -Mango Sorbet with Rum They tell me the truck is only roaming the streets of NOVA now, and I hope it stays that way! Bought some ice cream at the Reston Farmer's Market recently. I'm a Vanilla guy so that's what I went with. The taste was alright -- nothing special. There even seemed to be a slight bitter aftertaste that I didn't care for. But it's hard to go wrong with Vanilla ice cream. My biggest issue was some undesirable ingredients: carrageen, guar gum, and "stabilizers". I was hoping this kind of stuff wouldn't be in there given that this is a small, local company. But it was not to be. Not sure what the deal is -- somehow Häagen-Dazs manages to not put this crap in their Vanilla ice cream. Oh well. read more

I do not frequently have to cater large events, and I recently found myself in a situation where I had to feed 250 people breakfast within about a weeks notice. I basically just did a Google search and then cross-referenced with Yelp and got the names of my top 4 choices. I asked for quotes and not only was Stephanie very quick to reply, but she was also very close to the most inexpensive if not the cheapest. Which typically is not a good thing for a caterer but it gets better. The funny thing was that I had bought a pint of their ice cream at the Reston Farmers Market before, and didn't realize it was the same company until I asked and she confirmed it. So cheap or not, I knew the food was probably going to be amazing. The reason I bought the ice cream was because of the fact they make it from scratch and use good ingredients and it was delicious. So that was a bonus that I wasn't even expecting, but definitely a point in their favor. They did not disappoint. They provided me with a server on site that helped with the arrangement and keeping everything tidy, plus he was very friendly and engaged the clients a bit in regards to the food which was great. The spread itself was BEAUTIFUL, and sooooo good. The company we catered for said it was the best they have had, and they get catered spreads frequently from other companies. The ice cream to me felt quite sweet. It could be because I coupled it with a chocolate chip cookie but after three bites it was too cloying. I didn't want to eat anymore, and that really bugs me because I spent $7! I didn't realize there were size options, and I wasn't asked. I was handed a cup with ice cream and gave them a $5 bill. I got a blank stare. I gave them another $1. Another blank stare. Sweating at this point that this ice cream would cost as much as my graduate degree, I choked up the other dollar. Also, I will have to say the service was so-so as well. They seemed impatient with my asking a question. Next time, I will spend the $7 for an entire meal instead. read more
