My massage w Derek was truly amazing! Highly recommend. The spa itself was underwhelming w virtually no amenities. No sauna, no hot tub, and no place to get changed. There was a steam shower that was slow to warm, did not get hot. The host told me to put a timer on because of the drought and it wastes a lot of water. I took my three daughters to Tall Grass for a spa day last summer and we were treated rudely by two separate staff members throughout our visit. I've always had a positive experience at Tall Grass and was surprised by their negativity. Maybe they were having a bad day but it was enough to sour our special day. I attempted to reach Melissa, the manager to relay what happened. She emailed me once but never followed up or called. Sadly, we haven't been back to Tall Grass. I had a 65 minute massage from Sapphire and it was amazing! As someone who has had over 100 massages all across North America, the massage I received from Sapphire was hands down the best! She was attentive and responsive, listening to the pressure I needed, and overall provided a relaxing and comforting atmosphere. I will revisit every time I come back to Colorado! The drive over there and back - AMAZING! The facial - decent! The staff and the space - sub par. I was really looking forward to this treat as a new mom and someone who hasn't been out much during Covid - this was a first outing by myself in a LOOOOOONG time. So, why the 2 stars? When I got to the spa almost an hour in advance as I requested steam room services before my facial, I was put into a bathroom to change - this is already weird...there is a line of women waiting to use the toilet and I am in there taking my time changing...not realizing this was the only bathroom. The woman who was setting up the steam room said she would find me in the quiet room to let me know when it was ready. I was sitting in a chair right outside the room and no one ever got me (they said they got too busy at the front). So when I saw someone, I asked them about the steam and they said that it was ready, though at that point I only had 15-20 min to steam, shower and be ready for the facial, instead of the 40 minutes i was hoping for. They knew I was coming, they knew I asked for a steam and a shower before the facial, so why not have it ready to go? In a spa this allegedly nice, i expect some forward thinking. Next the facial - the girl was lovely but also only maybe a month in which means there were definitely moments where I wasn't sure about the skill level. We are also just coming out of a pandemic (kind of) and I am a bit appalled that they would not have an aesthetician wear a mask when her face is literally inches from mine (obviously I am not wearing a mask as this is a facial). Have they heard up in the mountains of the "covid variant"? I am not yet fully vaccinated and only have 1 dose and the aesthetician eluded to not being vaccinated which made it really uncomfortable and honestly, it's not my job to tell an adult to wear a mask. Even if she was fully vaccinated, she doesn't know if I am and wouldn't the spa want to protect the staff after having such a hard year? Instead of feeling relaxed, I left feeling uneasy about getting sick or taking possible germs to my baby. As mentioned, the drive is lovely, but I will choose Four Seasons spa in Denver over this any day just because I know that they take care of their employees and customers. This place does not. I was given a gift card to Tallgrass for my birthday. I was able to call and book an appointment within a reasonable time. The drive out was beautiful and relaxing. When I got there, I was able to lock up my stuff and robe up. You wait in this tranquil lounge that is stocked full of that amazing Aveda tea until your person comes to get you. I chose to do a Chakra massage and had never done one before. It was good, but the touches were very light, which was explained to me. I typically do deep tissue/athletic massages with hot stones or aroma therapy. My massage therapist did a good job explaining everything and was really professional and clear. After it was over, I did feel balanced and like my overall sense of well-being was intact. If I make it up to Tallgrass again, I would most likely try a different type of massage. However, I would encourage anyone who is open to it to give the chakra balance a try. I was able to hang out in the quiet space for as long as I needed post-massage. The fire was crackling, the tea was warm. It was perfect. When I was ready and got dressed, I was able to shop for makeup and look around. Man did I used to love this place. It was truly my happy place. I had had my hair done by Hannah. I've been going to her for years. Long story short, I have a severe allergy to hair dye. I'm strictly foils. And Hannah did a great job of remembering that until the last time I was in. She neglectfully painted my roots and got product directly on my scalp. I ended up with a bad reaction. I tried to confront her kindly between us as we had been friends for years. She completely acted in an unprofessional. She started going off and throwing personal stuff in my face that I confided in her as a friend. She crossed many lines. Management gave me a refund and offered to have an actual experienced hairstylist fix my hair. That was all fine and dandy. Sadly I had to cancel my appointment due to catching COVID. Before I could get my hair fix properly, Hannah decided to harass me VIA social media. When I brought this to the attention of management and the director, I was told they can't do anything about it and don't want to be involved. To me, that was ABSURD! As a client Hannah's continued unprofessional behavior would embarrass me as her boss. I feel if Hannah and I did not have a previous friendship history it would have been dealt with differently. It's sad to have walked away from this place with an allergic reaction and I cant even get my hair fixed now as I do not feel welcome there nor do I appreciate bullying being encouraged there. Hannah does not fit the criteria of positive vibes and energy. She's actually the exact opposite. Her energy is disgusting. After that I went onto the patio and took in the magical smell the wood-burning fireplace, listened to the trickling of the water down the waterfall, The chirping birds and the amazing scenery. Absolute bliss! There are lots of places to get a massage but if you want to be treated like a princess and feel like a total away this is where you want to go. If you want no distractions... Let's start by saying I never pamper or make time for myself. Today, I used a 3 year old gift card and got my two toned, fried hair colored to one single color and cut to be just a little styled. I asked for a blue/black, but my hair is just flat black. That's fine, I'm not too picky but when the price is so much, you'd hope to get what you asked for. My hair stylist was very nice and friendly aside from that. My hair looks much better leaving than it did going in (and it ought to for the price). The "quiet room" is basically a very nice waiting room and would have been beyond relaxing if that were my forte... But listening to women gossip isn't really my thing. If you're 45 or older, or a rich housewife, this is surely the place for you. The staff seems very friendly, it's nice and clean, ambient music, wood burning fireplace, snacks and cucumber infused water.... But again, not so much for me. I'm 32 with 3 kids and I feel quite old, but I can't handle an uppity place like this. That isn't a bad thing, it's just not MY thing. I heard clients there talking about how wonderful Sarah was with her massages, I will also say that. Haven't experienced it, and I won't, but her clients leave happy for sure. It's a great drive and a wonderful place if you go at a slow speed and want the peace. It felt like it was a full day of relaxation and pampering the staff was great lunch was amazing and the staff who served lunch was very sweet and accommodating. Not 5 stars because the manicure missed the mark. She did three layers on some nails, swept sideways, missed going back to the circular so now I have steps of layers of polish. Not sure if the color was old or it was the technician but it looks awful. I didn't complain because I will wreck the manicure within two days of working. Also they are missing consistency, 2/4 of the women in the nail spa were offered a heated neck pillow, I was almost done with my pedicure when I noticed. If you have the heated neck pillows offer them to everyone, I guarantee few will say no. I will be back for the facial from Peggy! read more

There were tons of retail areas to look at: accessories, Aveda skin, hair care and make-up, along with clothes and shoes. We had two chairs in the great room The snow covered patio. It was perfect, we read magazines and books while we waited for our massages. I would recommend bringing more books or magazines of your own bc I didn't really like their selection of material. There were green apples, pretzels and banana chips with chocolate covered cranberries to snack on along with your tea and cucumber water. Although the place is tiny not like your large Burke Williams type of spas, it was still a pleasant experience. My best friend treated me to a prenatal massage with Janet who was great. Tallgrass lost me from the get-go. I didn't even get past the initial phone call to book services. I called to schedule a "spa day" with lunch and wanted a hair trim as one of my services. I have long, waist-length hair - it is straight, no bangs, does NOT need a "style" but only needed 1 inch trimmed off the ends. This takes 10 - TEN MINUTES. Some barbers can do it in 5 minutes. But the charge is a whopping $45.00! I get that this is an upscale place and expected to pay more than the $15.00 hair trims that I usually get at a local barber shop. And I could have taken that into consideration as part of a "special experience" and just swallowed the exorbitant fee for a simple end trim. I expected it because this is an upscale place and for the "experience" - go for it! But that was before I found out about their pricing policies. *******What galled me was that TALLGRASS OFFERS HAIRCUTS TO MEN FOR ONLY $30.00. And believe me, my simple, straightforward 10 minute hair is a LOT LESS WORK than a man's standard haircut. It doesn't really even need a pro to do it as my mom can trim my hair with no problem.******** So, I asked to be scheduled for a man's service since my requirements were so simple but they would not budge. Why??? BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN. No other reason was given. Men's haircuts start at $30.00 and Women's haircuts start at $45.00. End of story. My needs were simpler than any man's haircut, but because I am a woman and ONLY because I am a woman, I was going to be charged $15.00 more than than a man. I didn't need a style. I didn't need color. I didn't need a wash, blow dry, products or curl. I just needed a 10 minute end trim and was going to be charged extra BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN. If I had been a MAN with waist length hair, I would have been charged $30.00 instead of $45.00. I wonder what would have happened if I had been a woman with a short, trim, man's haircut? Many women have them and they are very cute. If I had come into Tall Grass needing a trim on a short man's haircut, what would they have done???? Would I have been charged an extra $15.00 for the EXACT SAME STYLE? This is rude. It is sexist. And (with all the laws about gender discrimination), it is probably illegal. I couldn't believe my ears. But my personal belief is that a private business has the right to charge whatever they want to whoever they want and even refuse service to anyone they want for whatever reason they want. I also have the right to refuse to patronize a business that has such unfair policies and to tell whoever I want about their poor service and discriminatory pricing. I might pay extra for the "experience" of a lavish spa day. I will NEVER pay extra because of my gender. read more

I've been to Tallgrass previously for a massage and lunch with a group of clients. The service, food, and atmosphere were lovely. The location is sublime. Getting away from the city certainly lends to relaxation. Why 2-stars? I wanted to schedule massages and lunch for myself and my mother to celebrate her birthday and discovered that in order to have lunch, you now need to schedule 3 or more hours of service. When I was already planning on spending more than $300 for services, I had assumed that we'd be valued enough to have the opportunity to spend $20 each on lunch. I was wrong. Tallgrass is a destination. As far as I can tell the closest nearest restaurant is Anthony's Pizza (12 minutes away) which is not exactly conducive the spa experience. I'm sure they won't miss my business as there are plenty of people to who are able to afford the minimum 3 hours, but it is disappointing that they appear to not want to take care of ALL of their clients. I will instead opt to schedule massages at the Four Seasons' spa downtown and then have our choice of lunch spots to choose from. A note, if you schedule a service at the Four Seasons, you get full run of their spa facilities (steam room, sauna, hot tub, relaxation room, etc.). In my opinion, this is a much better value. The only trade is an "urban getaway" vibe versus the mountain retreat that is Tallgrass. read more

After years of hearing friends rave about Tallgrass, I finally made the trek to Evergreen to check it out for myself. This is a cute day spa housed in a former foothills residence. I opted for a facial. The service was fantastic and my skin looked great afterwards. I'm a fan of Aveda products, been using them for a long time. If I had to rate the facial alone, I'd give it 4-stars. Where things went south for me was in the relaxation department - one of the main reasons I chose to have a spa experience in scenic Evergreen. The set-up of the spa was bothersome. The relaxation room (Great Room) was anything but. For one, it serves not only as a resting place for those receiving spa services but also as a waiting room for people who are there for quicker services (mani/pedi/haircut) and their significant others. This made for a mash-up of people (myself included) in bathrobes and slippers and men and women in street clothes. There was constant flow of traffic in and out and a decent amount of noise. There has to be a better way to handle this. As if that wasn't enough, the Great Room also faces the parking lot. In addition to the chatter in the room, there was also the clanging of the garbage truck. It didn't lead to a very relaxing experience. Perhaps I caught Tall Grass on an off day. It happens. The spa seemed slightly overbooked, or maybe they always run at this capacity? I don't know. I do know that I've had better experiences at other metro area Aveda Day Spas. I would be open to trying it again but I'm not in any rush. read more

I've been to Tallgrass a handful of times and I can say that the service is certainly consistent. I never walk out of there going, "Wow! That was the most amazing spa experience I've ever had!" But it's not a bad way to spend and hour or two (or half-day) if you have the money to plunk down for their really over-priced services. Not being a person with that kind of money, I regretfully decided to splurge and treat myself to a half-day of pampering (I kick myself when I think of what I could have done with that money instead). It was nice and pleasant, but I kind of felt like I was on an assembly line. Massage - check! Facial - check! Lunch - check! etc... Everyone was friendly and did their jobs - no complaint there. But when you spend six hours in a place, you really have an opportunity to check it out in a way that you can't when you just come in for a 50-minute massage. The spa is nestled in the mountains of Evergreen; it's gorgeous - stunning, actually. There's a view of Mt. Evans from the great room which is absolutely breathtaking. Location-wise, you'd be hard-pressed to find a spa in a more beautiful and tranquil spot. Wish I could give a glowing review, but Tallgrass is really just an average spa that happens to be in an incredibly gorgeous location. read more

Sorry Tallgrass, but I've never been anything but disappointed. A friend flew in from NY for my 40th birthday and we decided to spend a day here. The appointments were confused. I asked for a female masseuse and ended up with a young man who was probably 21. They forgot to book my pedicure. My friend was served lunch but they forgot mine. It was just one thing after another. I know mistakes are made - and I make plenty of my own - so I'm usually pretty forgiving but they didn't seem to care. No effort at all to make me a happy customer. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. This time I had a facial which I enjoyed. But the woman who provided the service spent 10 minutes trying to sell me all of the products she used. A facial is supposed to be relaxing - and it was - until I felt like the treatment was being given by a used car salesperson. It's a beautiful setting. I have been hearing about Tallgrass for quite some time - particularly from my friends who live in Boulder, Golden and Morrison. I was lucky enough to visit Tallgrass today and it was a real treat! I had a pedicure and a 50 minute massage, and both were outstanding. My toes are beautiful and my feet SO soft, and my whole body is still relaxed - several hours post massage! The ambiance at Tallgrass is so nice and soothing. The gathering room, where you wait for your spa person to come find you for your service, is relaxing complete with comfy chairs, a fireplace and lots of reading material. The views from the windows are beautiful, and there are private rooms where you can change into robes and store your clothes. The staff was very nice and they seemed genuinely happy that we chose Tallgrass for our outing today! There is no mobile phone service at Tallgrass and it's really a blessing, as you can truly get into spa mode! I will definitely return. read more

The setting is a beautiful place for a getaway - even the drive up is great - just make sure you leave plenty of time for the drive though, because it's a little off the beaten path. I had the best pedicure I've ever had here with a very long calf/foot massage. Try to visit when it's nice out though - because the outdoor waiting area can't be beat. What an incredible location for a day spa! The surroundings are so beautiful and tranquil that the treatment begins from the moment you arrive. Upon arrival I was, however, a little put off by the space. It's small and at times it felt a bit cramped. You'll forget about this though, because the treatments were so relaxing. Now, I'm ussually pretty disappointed with the massages I receive. Typically, I feel like they consist of merely an oily rub down. My massage at Tallgrass was with a woman who had a chiropractic massage background. She really listened to what I wanted done and it was probably one of the few massages that I really enjoyed. After the massage, I had the Mountain Man Facial. Something about the Aveda oils and scents make extractions more enjoyable. I even had brow waxing added in. Pain is beauty people! Perhaps, it was because it was after the massage treatment but facial experience was even more relaxing. By the end of both treatments I felt like butter melting over a big ol' pile of flapjacks. When I returned to the car and actually looked in the mirror I was amazed with how much better my face looked. I love it when spa treatments are actually functional! I live in Evergreen and have been coming to Tall Grass off and on for hair services. I love the windy road with the prestigious beautiful homes on the drive to Tall Grass. It's a beautiful drive and you will be relaxed by the time you arrive to the spa. I like to get my hair done at Tall Grass because it's close, convenient, and it's an Aveda Spa. I like Aveda color. It's also a beautiful place to get your hair done and I have always had a good stylist and my hair looks great. I recently met Ondrea before the holidays a hair stylist at Tall Grass. Every time I see her I am getting lots of complements on my hair color and cut. She really knows a lot about hair and color. They also give you a complimentary paraffin hand treatment while your hair is processing. A nice added bonus for dry skin. I love it! So for hair services I give Tall Grass 4 stars. As for a day spa I give it 3 stars- I prefer larger spas with rain showers,hydrotherapy pools, fitness and yoga rooms, steam showers, jacuzzi's and saunas like at the Ameristar, Vail, Aspen, Beaver Creek and Vegas. When I day spa that's the kind of spa I choose to spend my money. However Tall Grass is my pick for a nail service or for hair services in the Evergreen area. Facials Manicure Pedicure Massage Mud Wrap Oh and Lunch - where you could eat the flowers that decorated your plate. We then stayed the night at a cute little bed and breakfast. We had them do all or our services at the same time - so we were in the same room our facials and nails. I had a really lovely experience with my husband at Tallgrass. We enjoyed a couples massage and a steam. The drive up was very serene and I found the grounds beautiful. Both of our masseuses were attentive and provided the correct amount of pressure. The steam was so so, but it was nice that they included it in the end. My only tiny complaint is they don't really have locker rooms. You drop your shoes at the door and then they give you a locker in one of the restrooms. So if someone else is in there, you kind of just wait around until you can get in and get your stuff (seems not well thought out). It was a great day and I would be back, but I would love it if they had actual locker rooms to push them to that 5 start status. read more

My husband bought me a spa package for mother's day 2019 and then COVID hit. I called and Tall grass honored my gift certificate. I went today and it was the best spa day of my life! The staff there is incredible. I had Shannon for my massuese and he was incredible. Kendra was my esthetician and she was so informative and we really had a great conversation. The wife and I came here for a massage and steam for a birthday celebration. It's a beautiful drive to get up here from Denver and if my GPS didn't know where we were going we would have never found it. There is no cell signal while you're up here, which is nice, cause then you can all veg. There's a quiet waiting area if you get there early or have time in between sessions. It was very relaxing. The massage itself was pretty stellar. Great pressure and communication and all my knots were worked out. The steam didn't remotely get up to temperature, which is my only negative. You get 20 minutes in the steam room, but when we walked in it was 77 degrees and set to 120. By the time we left it was still only 85. There was steam, but certainly not the hot, sweaty steam you expect. read more
