Amazing food, some of the best in town but with that comes long wait times and large bills, but totally worth it!

Have had breakfast here many times, always good food and service but not today. The waitress was more interested in talking to her peers than taking care of her customers. No offers to refill our coffee, more interested in getting us out the door even though the place was only half full. I have had the breakfast burrito before and would recommend it. Today it was luke warm at best. The grated cheese sprinkled on top did not even start to melt. Not sure we will give Tally's another chance. Maybe next winter. read more

All my reviews are 5 star. This one is not! We ordered the buffalo burger which was raved about on the reviews. The burger came but no fries (which we paid extra for = not included). They apologized and said the fries would be "right out" we finished our burgers and still no fries. We asked to speak to a manager and magically the fries appeared, right before she came over. She apologized and walked away. I guess our problem? The fries were raw in the middle, we told the server and he shrugged and took them away telling us "I hope the rest of your day goes better" What?! We tried Tally's for lunch and had a good experience. It wasn't anything mind-blowing for me, but I am hoping that another visit with a different menu choice will redeem that. I got the chicken fried steak. It was hand battered, but super tough. The gravy was a white gravy, but had a lot of herbs which didn't enhance the flavor profile for me personally. I am a Texas girl though, and love me some traditional cream meat gravy. My husband loved it, it just wasn't my thing. My husband got the tuna sandwich and absolutely LOVED it. Said it was one of the best sandwiches he has ever had. I am eager to visit again and try some other things. I will re-evaulate after that. Every time we are in Rapid city we eat at Tally's. The food is delicious and the staff is always friendly. we have never had any concerns. Our recent visit was on 9-2-23 and it was so hot inside. We were in around 11am and the temperature inside was excruciating. Not sure if AC was on, but there was little air circulation. The best thing about our hotel was that it was across the street from Tally's Silver Spoon restaurant. Two of the best meals I ate while in the Rapid City area for a week were eaten at Tally's. My husband and I ate breakfast every morning at Tally's, trying different dishes, until my husband landed on his favorite that he ordered 3 or 4 mornings, and I decided which dish was my favorite that I also ordered multiple times. My hands-down favorite was the vegetable breakfast. It sounded sort of weird when I first ordered it, but, oh, my, this dish took breakfast to a level I had never been before. It consists of sauteed veggies--sweet potatoes, broccolini, red onions, spinach, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms, sauteed in olive oil and seasoned with garlic, thyme and parsley, placed on a bed of hollandaise sauce. A cooked egg is placed on top of the veggies. My husband's favorite breakfast was the whole wheat oatmeal waffle topped with vanilla yogurt and strawberries, bananas and blueberries, with slivers of basil on top. The only dinner we enjoyed here was just as interesting as their breakfasts. I thoroughly enjoyed a huge bowl of linguine with a sauce consisting of chunks of bison steak, maytag blue cheese, mushrooms and marsala wine. It was delicious. As a plus, every one of the employees at Tally's was kind, friendly, competent and genuinely seemed to enjoy working there. Apple juice is $6 a glass. This place looked so promising but we regret the decision to go here. Lastly, they are the kings of hidden fees. They now charge the diner 3.5% to pay the kitchen staff a bonus. Why am I responsible for the salary of the kitchen. Isn't it the employees job to pay that? I don't write a ton of reviews, but this place was just straight mediocre. Ordered the salmon Benedict. Came out in a reasonable time. Hollandaise sauce was bland. No spices used on the hash browns or anywhere else. And for $18, the dish should have had more depth. The service here was great. Staff was friendly and as attentive as needed. Coffee was never let down. I sat at the bar if that makes a difference. Just the product that comes out is for people who think McDonald's french fries with ketchup is a treat. I stopped by here this past Wednesday with my wife and her parents. We wanted a nice dinner and so my wife looked up a place on Yelp and found Tally's Silver Spoon. The inside of this place screams classy but also trendy. There is a large dining room with both tables and booths with the center piece being a 12 seat circular bar in the middle. The floors were hardwood and some of the walls had exposed dark brick. For dinner on this evening I was between the spicy vegetable pasta and the chicken and waffles. So I asked our waitress what the vegetables were in the pasta. She replied that they were seasonal and so I could expect some zucchini, squash and maybe even some sweet potatoes. Since that wasn't what I was looking for I ultimately went with the chicken and waffles. The menu describes the chicken and waffles as local squash polenta, scallions, maple bacon, fresno pepper hot sauce. It looked good whenever it came out with the chicken sitting on top of the waffles with the polenta off to the side. I first tried the chicken which consisted of a wing, thigh and boneless chicken breast. It was really good! The breading on the outside was thick and crispy and had a slight sweetness to it. Then the chicken on the inside was moist and juicy and I loved putting the Fresno chile hot sauce on it. Not to be outdone by the chicken the waffle was done nicely as well. I had it with some of the herbed butter that came with it which was nice. On my very last bite I got a big hit of maytag blue cheese from the butter which was amazing and I only wish there had been more throughout. Last but certainly not least was the local squash polenta which I couldn't exactly envision before the dish came out. However it was chunks of nicely cooked squash with polenta and huge chunks of bacon. It was really enjoyable as the polenta was creamy, the squash added some sweetness and the bacon added some savoriness. By the time I had finished I was very satisfied with my choice of meals. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Everything on my plate was really, really good and this was the best complete meal I have eaten in a while. read more

Another reviewer said that this is the only restaurant in Rapid City that can compete against big city restaurants, and yes I would 100% agree with that. My husband and I have been here for brunch 2 days in a row on multiple occasions. I love their innovative specials menu, which changes every day. It features their daily omelette and another creation of theirs which can vary from an oat & berry waffle topped with cream cheese, to chicken and biscuits with hash, to a steak eggs Benedict. My husband typically gets the daily special omelette, which is always so delicious and makes me jealous. I'm never disappointed with picking something different every time I'm in. The quality of food is very good, and also the portion sizes are huge! We haven't dined here for dinner (I'm assuming it's a different menu), but they do also have some sandwiches and pastas which can be ordered after 11am. My only advice is to come in as early as possible during the weekends, because there will be a wait anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes depending on the size of your group. And the bar seating is reserved sometimes too. There are some shops close by that will make the time go by fast, in addition to Art Alley across the street that you can snap some cool selfies in. But definitely don't miss out on Tally's. read more

Yum! This place was delicious! I'm glad I found it on Yelp and we stopped in! We had all recently arrived from our flights all over VA for a 1o-day, 6 -state girl's road trip and we were starving. I found this spot online because I was looking for a buffalo burger and was dying to make it happen. This place came highly recommended so off we went! We arrived around lunch time - 1pm I believe - it was crowded but not overly so. The friendly hostess said it would be around 10-15 minutes and took my phone number to call when they had a table for us. So we went to shop the town and walked a block or so before she called. When we arrived she showed us to a nice corner booth by the bathrooms. I ordered, of course, the buffalo burger and topped it with avocado, peppers and cheese. My friend ordered the dick burger (I think so she could say she's had dick for lunch) which is basically just a burger. My buffalo burger was really good - tender and juicy and thick as all get out. The accompanying fries were DELISH. I was starving but those fries were some of the best I've had in a while! We wanted to try dessert but were too full so we passed. A great place for breakfast located in downtown Rapid City. The parking can be a challenge. I just got eggs, hash Browns, bacon, and toast. Everything was cooked as requested and tasted great. I really liked the toast they used. I felt that they needed more staff as it took quite a while to get service and find the waitress if you needed anything. Although the restaurant was almost full, we got sat right away, the server greeted us within a couple minutes, and the food was at our table very fast. I ordered the omelette of the day, which had a unique and yummy taste. My daughter ordered the fruit and risotto (oatmeal) and we were surprised it had tamarind! I love how they successfully play with the ingredients to bring us fine and fancy plates to enjoy.
