This is definitely one of the better places in Rapid City and their breakfast is very good. But their Winter in between hours of lunch and dinner is a little disappointing (they only serve soup and pie) and I even checked their menu online and it didn't mention those restrictions. read more

Had "brunch" here on Thursday, June 23rd. First time trying it, and it was not a good experience all the way around: (1) While there were tables available, they had not been cleaned, so we had to wait which is understandable, but the wait was very long as they took a very long time to get around to cleaning the table. This turned out to be the pace of everything here...sloooooooooow! (2) Of the four entrees ordered the only one that "passed" the test was the French Dip. The French Toast were tiny pieces of bread on an oversized plate which made it look even worse than it already was. Another of our party debated whether they were eating bacon that had once sat hear a frying pan or perhaps was just opened fresh from the slaughterhouse. The last of us had a salad which we were not happy with either. (3) The place is obnoxiously loud. Made all the more interesting by the waiter who would come up to the terminal, and talk out loud every item that a table had ordered. I don't mean kind of soft spoken. It was loud enough that everyone near the terminal would hear this guy entering every meal. We all looked at him, and he acknowledged that yes he spoke to himself. Yikes! The horrible music had way too much base and was just all around horrible.l (4) Oh, did I mention the place is sloooow! I watched one pair of customers wait well over 30 minutes from getting their menus to being able to place their order. Unbelievable. We ourselves had very long waits every time we needed something. First off, make a reservation or forget going. This place is popular and rightfully so. We picked out Tally's Silver Spoon by looking at some reviews and because it was across the street from our hotel. We weren't expecting much and what a great piece of luck it turned out to be. First of all Rapid City is not the epicenter of culinary excellence but this restaurant is. I had the Foie Gras starter that was superb and my wife had an asparagus and spinach starter with homemade prosciutto and duck egg that was also terrific. I had the Bison Maytag Marsala Mushroom pasta which I really enjoyed and ate the entire portion which was very generous. My wife had the fried chicken (Grand Ole Poultry) which was conservatively 10 times better than Yardbirds which is supposed to be one of the best in the States. Crispy and not oily and delicious. There was a good wine selection but sorry no room for dessert so not sure about that. Samantha was our server and she was as attentive and as on the ball and helpful as any Michelin starred place we have eaten at. Even the young man with the fancy hairdo bussing tables was a ton of fun as we discussed the relative merits of getting a tattoo. Service overall was fantastic. This is a great restaurant and we eat out a lot globally and know the difference. You won't be disappointed. read more

Good food, hard to find a place to sit ( which isn't a bad thing that means the food is good;) there's a good chance you could have to wait up to 20-30 mins for a seat . Staff isn't always so pleasant they can be a little ....snotty, I guess the word is . But we don't let that bother us too much . We'd been in SD for a week and had already decided South Dakotans are some of the nicest people we've ever met in many years of traveling all over the world but our decision to go to Tally's Silver Spoon confirmed our attitude completely. I am "mostly vegan" so I will eat eggs, infrequently but milk makes me regret my "failings" for days. Before becoming vegan Eggs Benedict was my Mother's Day meal and this year I'd missed it. When I saw them on the menu with salmon I relented and went "to the dark side." But, I wanted to avoid the milk thing. The waiter told me that he did not think there was any milk and came out within minutes to say that in fact the Hollandaise sauce "might" have some cream (traditionally it doesn't) and the English Muffin does. I had set my heart on the meal so threw caution to the wind and said Oh heck I'll have it. Then it was only another few minutes later that the manager came and asked if I'd like to substitute another bread for the muffin and did I want the sauce on the side so I could control the amount. OK, so first of all, this kind of thing I only think of happening in really high end places with VIPs but what it also told me was the the waiter had actually taken the time to check and had let the manager know. I was gobsmacked! Then the meal came and both mine and my husband's were delicious. PERFECTLY poached eggs on top of tender salmon, on rye, sauce on the side that I dribbled on, and hot, not lukewarm and showing evidence of sitting under heat lights. Our waiter refilled our delicious coffee at regular intervals at our request and we could not have enjoyed a better breakfast. Kudos to Tally's Silver Spoon for not only really good food but really good service and an excellent manager. read more

I had a great sandwich and fresh clam chowder they make in house. Both delicious. The service was very personable - not rote - which was appreciated. Took very little time to get my food and I sat outside at a table and enjoyed the beautiful day. Would absolutely eat here again. read more

Stopped here for dinner with our three kids while visiting the Black Hills. I ordered the butter halibut, which was quite good and almost as moist as I like it, but my husband's pasta pimenton was totally lacking in flavor. We also ordered their signature fried chicken with gouda mac and sauteed kale - the chicken was too fried for my taste but the kale was excellent and the kids loved the mac and gouda. Came in for brunch on a Sunday. Boy this is busy place. We were there at 11.10am and were told there was a 30min wait. We finally were seated in 20mins and in a nice place outside; the weather was cool so quite comfortable. However, if you don't like flies bugging you, then you might want to sit inside. Having said that, the inside was a bit stuffy - it was early September. Menu was ok - not that wide a selection as I would have thought but good enough. Maybe the dinner menu is different. Server was very nice and efficient. But food took a long time to come - it finally came at 12.20pm so probably 30mins after ordering. I think the kitchen couldn't cope. Food itself was pretty good. My wife had the red pepper sandwich (spicy) and it tasted very good and my daughter finished her philly cheesesteak sandwich. My buffalo steak sandwich was tasty also but the meat somewhat sparse. read more

This hidden gem is an amazing experience. I eat all over the country and am hoping for a trip back to partake in "indecision". We have been batting a hundred on this trip. Tally's was another winner. We ate breakfast there and I had the eggs Benedict. It was really good, except the ham underneath had some gristly parts to it. I had to spit them out (sorry for being graphic, but I want them to know they shouldn't pass off the gristly pieces to the customer, and they should cut them off) With eggs Benedict it is covered with an egg, and sauce, so I guess they pass on the not so pretty slices with the eggs Benedict, but the sauce was GREAT! The eggs were cooked perfect. My husband got a bacon and cheese omelet. He really liked his. The service was very good with nice staff. I would definitely go back, but I would make sure I would ask for the piece of ham or Canadian bacon on the side, so I can see what I am getting first. read more

The service on the other hand well it was terrible! Go for the food plan on staying a while if the service was like ours. If life has taught me anything, it's that people deserve a second chance. We gave a second chance to Tally's today when both my wife's and daughter's cinnamon French toast came out burned on one side. Our waitress was very kind and accommodating, and she immediately took the plates back to exchange them. However, it would seem that the cooks took offense at us sending back the plates, as the next set of French toast was actually undercooked in many places. Our waitress did the best that she could, but there's only so much the wait staff can do when the cooks are unwilling to accommodate. An incredible variety of breakfast items including my favorite: an Egg's Benedict Version where they replace the Ham/Bacon with a wonderfully tasty smoked salmon!
