Best place to have breakfast in Rapid City. The Duck Duck Goose is amazing; the fresh gooseberries and foie gras is delicious combination. Service is excellent. Dining area is on the smallish side so there is often a wait during the earlier breakfast hours, but since Tally's serves breakfast into the early afternoon, go later and be seated immediately. Tally's is really as good as it gets in Rapid City. The breakfast is spot on - the omelets are big enough to share, made with fresh ingredients (I once saw the farmer carrying in a box of mushrooms as I ate!), and the dinner is the best gourmet meal in Rapid City. The service can be slow, but that's probably because they are almost always busy! We LOVE Tally's and take all of our out of town guests here to eat. read more

Never had a bad meal at Tally's. Not once . we especially like their pasta and burgers. Not everything is expensive. The only issue is some of the seating, is so close that your pretty much having dinner with other people . Not great for a private dinner unless you get a reservation for a booth. Tally's was, for decades, an old fashioned cafe. Now it is a 'yuppie' lunch spot that has been modernized and looks like 2018 inside rather than the 1950 appearance of a decade ago. Food and service are good and if you have business downtown, it is a great spot for a lunch meeting. read more

While I enjoyed the atmosphere, I was not bowled over by the service or the food. I ordered the usual breakfast fare and waited 25 minutes for my food. My toast was cold and not exactly toasted. The eggs, bacon and hash browns were fine. I am visiting from Washington, DC, and have so enjoyed how friendly everyone is here in Rapid City. I didn't not get that level of "warmth" from my server. Bottom line up front: customer service was terrible (one star), and the food was average at best (three stars). Overall experience: two stars. Our experience started out, after being seated right away, waiting about five minutes for water. Not too bad considering the place was packed, but still a little long to wait for water. Then we waited quite awhile to place our order. Again, this was due to the place being packed, but in my opinion, still unacceptable for a restaurant like this. We ordered two appetizers for the table, and each of us ordered an entree. Two of the entrees came with a choice of soup or salad. I got the soup. My wife got the salad. This point is relevant later. This is where the experience took a substantial nose dive. When the "helper waitress" brought our appetizer plates and silverware to the table, she apparently couldn't be bothered to place the forks and knives at each individual place setting and actually slid my fork and knife across the table at me. At this time my father in law looked down at his plate and noticed there was still food residue and grease on his plate. I looked at my plate and noticed something similar, but I had to scrape the old food pieces off of my plate with my fingernail. We asked for new plates and got two "new" plates that weren't much cleaner. The appetizers were served in a relatively timely manner and were good. They were the best part of the meal. On to the main course. My wife got her salad before her entree was served, and I never got my soup. Of note, the waitress never cleared her salad plate until after we were done with our entrees. When the entrees finally came out, the waitress attempted to hand the plates to each of us instead of placing them in front of us. Not sure why she did that, but that's not the kind of service we expected. The entrees were presented well and we were excited to dig in. I ordered the native buffalo medium rare and was immediately disappointed when I took my first bite. The meat was so tough that it was difficult to chew. My comment to the table was that it was a workout just chew the meat to an acceptable level to swallow. I stopped trying to eat my entree about half way through because it was simply too much work. I got the attention of the waitress and asked for my soup, which she brought a few minutes later with no apology for forgetting about it in the first place. It was extremely hot (with heat) and tasted like Campbell's creamed beef. I ate about two spoonfuls and then heaped the bowl onto the plate with the rest of the inedible buffalo. My in laws were pleased with their pasta, although my mother in law also had a hard time chewing her buffalo, and my wife was happy with her ham and peas. When we were done with the main course, we expected to be asked if we wanted coffee, which we were never offered because our waitress was nowhere to be found. Frustrated, I yelled to get the bartender's attention, and he came back at me with an equally rude comment. He walked over to the table and from that point, he was actually attentive and we got our coffee. Finally, we decided to dine here because yesterday was my birthday. As a surprise for me, my wife received approval from management to bring an ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery. When we arrived, we asked that they store the cake in their freezer until we needed it at the end of the meal. They agreed. When we got the cake after we got our coffee, it was completely melted because it wasn't stored in their freezer like they agreed to do which resulted in a soupy ice cream cake. It was the "icing on the cake", so to speak, of an overall disappointing experience. In summary, I cannot recommend this place to anyone who values customer service. You will easily get better service from any IHOP waitress across the nation. Finally, your meal will be just ok, and you probably won't find any need to return for a second go around. We ate breakfast here. The coffee was YUM! Both decaf and regular. The pancakes are very tasty as well as the eggs. How do you make an over medium egg taste better than any other? I don't know how they do that, but we enjoyed every bite of our breakfast. read more

this review is for breakfast. We are staying across the street. We had to wait to be seated but less than we were told. We sat at the counter and our waitress was very efficient and friendly. All the breakfasts looked good. But I ordered the house breakfast, a pancake, an egg, and bacon. I substituted a blueberry pancake for the plain buttermilk..Excellent and only $5 including a 50 cent charge for the substitution. This is a great deal. We will probably return before we leave town. read more

This is one of the best places in town for breakfast and lunch. The lunch is amazing and well priced, the service is top-notch, but it is loud and busy - maybe because it is so good. However the dinner is very expensive and small portion size. The service is still excellent in the evening, but again it is very loud and impossible to hear the person next to you when the live music begins in the evening. I don't think they have live music every evening, but Friday and Saturday night for sure so don't expect to have a conversation with your dinner guests. We have asked to sit toward the back of the restaurant but it is still loud there. It is definitely worth a try, especially if you are from out of town and would like a good meal but don't mind spending a lot of money. read more

This restaurant is so delicious! Who says New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco have all the best places to eat? The Chef here has brought the coasts to the Midwest. The foie gras is delicious and done perfect. Kale salad is wonderful as it the mushroom appy. Each are large enough for an entrée. It's a wonderful change from the "steak and bbq" here. Long unfair wait！ they even had 4 groups who were after us seated before us while we were patiently waiting ．we traveled a lot and this was the first time we had this situation with 3 young children ．they Said they didn't have table for us. But they were not willing to combine small ones to accommodate us. But they asked upfront if we were ok sitting outside we said yes . When we found out that they gave the outside tables to 4 other groups they said the tables were small! Why ask then? Why not combine them for us? Even if they don't combine the tables we can easily sit there since we have a baby Plus they don't smile read more
