So we left Hosted a mixer yesterday from 4-7p with local business owners and for whatever reason, despite there being only 3-4 other people in the entire spot, the cook kept insisting we move all the way to the back so to "be out of the way" of other patrons as if WE weren't patrons. Not a good look when the only POC in the building are being made to feel like we don't belong considering most of us are from here. Felt a bit Rosa Parks to me which is most definitely not the vibe. We ultimately had 20 people there enjoying the company but being treated like trash at a spot where most of us would walk to! Aside from Gabriel, who is always nice, Customer service was subpar and not the way a local bar should feel. Posting this knowing they will likely not care but hoping you will.

They recently opened a tasting room in Highland Park, so I stopped in to check it out. The tasting room is quaint & cozy. They offer three curated tastings: Monthly special ($27), Reserve ($40) or Library ($20) or you can order by the glass. I selected the Library Tasting. I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of reds but these were excellent. My tasting consisted of a Grenache (2017), a Syrah (2017), Alicante Bouschet (2017), & Evenfall (2016). Each one was well balanced, the notes were lovely, and the finish was smooth. During my tasting I had a wonderful conversation with Al & Mark. Al recently started working here, and she has amazing energy. Mark is also very personable and enthusiastic about his wine. He let me try some of the Anonymous, which is a secret blend and listed as "Origin & Vintage Unknown." It was fantastic! After trying Byron Blatty Wines, I'm now a fan of reds. I even bought a bottle to take home. I will most definitely be back to enjoy more of these delicious wines and an enjoyable conversation with Al.

Since it had an overall good rating, I booked it right away. Afterwards, I almost had buyer's regret because there had been an influx of recent negative reviews (at least it seemed that way). I couldn't back out since my credit card was going to be charged as they require a 48 hour advance notice (longer than the usual 24 hrs -- which I thought was peculiar). At this point, I was committed to make the best of the experience. We arrived and noticed how beautiful it appeared outside. Walking in, we were greeted and sat right away by the host. I noticed that at 6:30pm, the restaurant had a few patrons, but it seemed a bit empty. Nevertheless, the staff was attentive (which was a plus). We ordered: 1) Grilled Skill Island Tiger Prawns ($23) - This was delicious and prepared well! I wish there was just one more prawn to justify the price. Otherwise, I enjoyed the grill flavor and the lebneh that it came with. 2) Pan Roasted Spanish Octopus ($24) - This was also enjoyable and we felt there was more value because of the size of the octopus. This was also beautifully presented, but it was also delish. 3) The Garden of Life Little Gem Salad ($14) - This salad was so so and while it looked beautiful, it was a very simple salad. Not sure I would order it again. 4) Grilled Australian Lamb Chops ($38) - This was enjoyable though I wish there was more on this dish to enjoy. This was quite literally just chops and you would need to order accompaniments. It wasn't gamey, so I appreciated that. 5) Black Angus Flat Iron Steak ($42) - This was good but not great and came with some roasted potatoes. For the price I was hoping for more meat or a side of vegetables. 6) Brooklyn Kura Yuzu Spritz ($12) - This was refreshing and just what you would expect. I enjoyed it. 7) Basque Cheesecake - This was light and enjoyable! Great way to finsh the meal Overall, I enjoyed the flavors of the dishes we ordered and the staff was attentive. Keep in mind that the portions are small so when I reflect back on the experience against the price, not sure the value is there. Moral of the story: Don't come hungry.

We also had the kids, which to sit inside, you have to be 21+. The burger, fries and tacos we ordered were hot and fresh. Definitely paired well with the beers we had! If craft beers are your thing, you won't be disappointed. They always stock their own beer (Highland Park Brewery) and consistently have tbe best guest taps. Russian River's Pliny the Elder, my favorite IPA, is always flowing here. Don't forget to follow them on IG to see events like tap takeovers and varied restaurant hours.

Overall, both the food and the service were extremely disappointing. Waiting that long just to get someone's attention, receive our food, and eventually pay the bill is unacceptable. The service was incredibly friendly and our winetender was very knowledgeable. She walked us through five different wines and explained the flavors and pairing suggestions in a way that was easy to understand. There was also a customer at the bar who was very friendly and showed us pictures of her wine adventures. She even recommended visiting Sonoma or Temecula for future wine tasting trips. We ended up choosing a red wine to bring to dinner and it was perfect. We would love to come back again the next time we are in Pasadena.
