Great little sort of dive bar in Eagle Rock area. My friend and I stopped in on a random night and it happened to be a stand up comedy night. We were catching up so didn't get to catch most of the set but we heard everyone busting up laughing inside. We will be back to catch the next one. There's a great interior and a pretty large patio out back with a dedicated area for smokers. (I don't smoke) which is a nice touch for those who do. I was starting to like this place, then the second week the KJ on Thursdays pushed me to buy a drink in a mean way. He assumed I didn't buy a drink last week because he check after I had finished min and I was about to buy one my second week there, but the counter was crowded, so I was waiting for it to be empty so I could order one and I had been there for like, 15 minutes. The Fable is one of my favorite local spots. Welcoming staff, great drink selection, nice happy hour, big and breezy back patio, cool (but not too cool) crowd. I fit right in. In fact, everyone does! I love the beer and cider selection. I always find a new one to obsess over. This time it was the Coco Colada - a coconut, mango & lime cider. Wonderful. The karaoke nights (M, Th) are my absolute fave. The song list is extensive so shake your nerves and put your song in early. You might even be able to sing two. They also have comedy and live music nights which you can track on their Instagram. They don't have a kitchen but they host food vendors frequently. read more

For as many times as I've been to The Fable over the past several years, I've found that every stop ends in good conversation with interesting people. The outdoor patio is great for al fresco cocktails (or for meeting up with that friend who smokes). The bartenders are wonderful and attentive. There's also a nice selection of Seltzers, Cider, Hard Kombucha, as well as a fully stocked bar of spirits. Feeling adventurous or just indecisive (like me)? Go for the Mystery Shot. You'll never know what you'll get because it's a new surprise every night. Bartenders do the honors with their secret recipe so when you're ready to play shot roulette, just go for it! If nothing else, make sure you have a chaser. I recommend the Triple Jam cider or a Blueberry Lemon cider on draft to wash it all down. Or a gin martini up, with an Uber home. read more

I love the fable. The inside makes me feel like I'm at the prancing pony in lord of the rings or something. Not only is the inside cool, but they have a great back patio I love to chill on too I remember one Halloween when they had a Misfits cover band and the bar owner sang some songs. Epic. The bartenders are great and sometimes know what I'm going to order without even asking. Love that. Dodger games are always on the TVs behind the bar so I never have to miss what's going on in the game while I'm there. They have a great weekly comedy show too that's free and always has a solid line up. Love their karaoke night especially. Always a fun time! This is my new fav spot. Went in here with for a peaceful solo drink, quickly made friends with the nice and courteous bartenders. Then I was notified that there would be a free stand up comedy show starting. Was at first hesitant , but ended up being an amazing night of laughs. Really good comedians. I've had drinks here several times when it was The Black Boar. Wasn't too thrilled when it became Old Chalet. After I moved a new owner stepped in and now it's The Fable. A friend of mine recently came here for drinks and enjoyed it, so I figured I'd check it out. Inside is reminiscent of a dimly lit tavern. There are seats at the bar, plenty of booths for gathering with friends, a dartboard, a cozy fireplace, and classic movies on tv when sports aren't on. They also have a lovely back patio area and additional seating on the sidewalk. I sat at the bar and ordered one of their House Cocktails ($13). A dollar from each sale is donated to a local charity every month. The house cocktails have creative monikers. I selected the Town's End (Songbird floral Liqueur, St. George Vodka, Grapefruit, & lemon juice). It was refreshing and delicious! I did not expect this place to have such a creative cocktail menu (of course they serve the classics along with beer & wine too). The selections all sounded fantastic. The bartender was friendly and the vibe here is chill. The Fable also has some great deals for Happy Hour and food vendor pop ups on weekends. It's a great neighborhood bar to meet up with friends, watch some sports, or just unwind after a long day. read more

don't do "no scrubs" on karaoke night after 11pm or, instead of offering advice when you're actually selecting it, before you perform, terry (?) will get on the mic during the last minute of your performance of the song (which happens to be repetitive in case you haven't heard it in 10 years) and tell you that you should have done "waterfalls" instead. like, public karaoke is embarrassing enough without the extra layer, thanks. the vibes here kinda suck if you're black tbh. the before-11pm karaoke dj seemed nicer but the bartender was worse. the later bartender is better but the dj is worse. take your pick! read more

A nice dive bar in the middle or Eagle Rock! The ambiance was dark and laid back, the makings of a great dive bar. They have a darts board and plenty of seating. The service was attentive and friendly. We didn't know what we wanted to get right away so we started with a mystery shot. The bartender explained that one bartender makes the mystery shot and tells no one else what's it in. Whatever it was, it went down smooth. After the shots, I stuck with a Harp lager and my girlfriend got one of their specialty vodka Parking was a little difficult, we ended up parking about a 7 minute walk away - overall not too bad for LA. read more

Hello I came with friend to grab a beer and it costed 7 dollars, I got another beer and it was different beer from the draft the first one was from a can, I had my card on a tab, I checked my tab in and I got charged 16$ for the two beers. Besides the fact that that wasn't professional and misleading towards the customer for being changed 8 each for both beers but this is the part that got me thinking they might me taking my information because I also got charged an additional 7$ the next day when I wasn't even at the bar on Saturday when I purchased those beers and was there on Friday. So I filed a fraud report on my credit card, it's 7$ and plus the other dollar they took from me but it was the fact that the service I got from the bigger gentlemen was cold and uninviting unfortunately. I don't really care bc I don't drink beer and I barely know anything about the types of beers or anything I don't drink at all barely but it was nice to see a friend so I came out and chose that bar bc I live in Eagle rock and it was just an odd experience for me being overly charged and then being charged on a day I wasn't even there. I came here for my friend's casual birthday party. His party started at 7 pm, but taking public transportation I got there at 6:15 PM. I got there during their daily happy hour (even on the weekend). Their HH whisky is Four Roses Bourbon which I had as a highball. HH is a very lively time, and with such cheap prices, I get it. After 7 pm, and the end of the happy hour it turned into a much more mellow place to relax and chat with a large group. They also had a burger place in the back for food which was nice. read more

The old boar has retired but the Chalet did not disappoint, it is pretty much the same setup with a few changes in the drink menu. I have always liked the place, it really has a rustic feel yet chill-almost comfy. A good neighborhood watering hole. They have quite a few craft beer options, my favorite is the Old Speckled Hen, after a few pints of this Ale - we sure had a good time at the dart board..whoops Anyway, I really like this place and my go to spot here in our hood, it's chill and they have good brews.
