They always have a well-curated beer selection. It covers all preferences. And then.. the sausages... absolutely a must try, with a friendly service that makes you feel at home. Highly recommend this place!

Came here for Trivia night on a Wednesday night, and I had a great time! I was initially a bit worried with how empty it was at 6-7 pm, but it quickly filled up as trivia night started at 8pm. Though we didn't win, I loved the informal non-stressed format, and felt like I even learned a bit of new things! I also loved the service, the servers and manager were very down to earth, telling us what they're about, and always checking in to make sure we have everything we needed. The food unfortunately, was just ok. I had the Atwater Brackwurst, which was longer than the other dogs, and this was probably the best thing. For condiments we had grilled onions and peppers which had a sweetness that gave a great contrast to the hot and salty texture of the meat. I wish there were more condiments over the ends of the meats that stuck out of the bun though. The fries and Coxhinhas I wasn't as big a fan of. While the coxinhas were fried perfectly, the chicken that was inside was bland and dry, and the sauce that we had was a chipotle aioli that was also too bland, like a straight up mayonnaise. I wanted a BBQ sauce with the steak cut fries (preferred thinner fries) but instead came with a habanero aioli that was also too much like mayo. Despite the food though, I would still come again especially for their interesting beer selections, service, and trivia!

Came here Wednesday night for trivia around 6 PM, and there were plenty of seats available. If you're here for trivia, it actually doesn't start until 8 PM, which is when people start trickling in. They have their own parking lot, but it's quite compact, so we ended up parking on the street. Metered parking is free after 8 PM and costs 25 cents every 15 minutes. Happy hour applies to drinks only and runs from 3 PM to 7 PM. I got the Hibiscus Apple Cider, and it honestly tasted like a regular fizzy soda. You could barely taste the alcohol, which might be a plus for some. When the rest of my party arrived, we ordered the Atwater Knackwurst, French Fries (large), and Coxinhas. For the Atwater Knackwurst, we chose onions and bell peppers as our two toppings. The onions and bell peppers were sweet. The sausage itself was grilled and delicious but it tasted like a standard sausage to me. As for the fries, I wish they were a bit thinner and crispier since they were a bit too mushy and large for my liking. Other than that, there was nothing special about them. We also requested BBQ sauce, but there must have been a mix-up since we received the habanero aioli instead. For the Coxinhas, the dough was crispy on the outside but soft when biting it. Inside, it contained some well seasoned shredded chicken. For this appetizer, we paired it with some chipotle aioli sauce. Though we didn't get a chance to try any other sauces, both the chipotle and habanero aioli contained a lot of mayo with lacking chipotle and habanero flavors. Overall, I really loved the service. I believe it was Zel who helped us - she was very welcoming, kind, and informative. This restaurant is great for hanging out, watching sports, trying new food and beer, and playing trivia. Parking can either be easy or difficult, depending on the time and day. Regardless, I would love to be back for another trivia or a showing of a game.

Fun spot we Yelped and truly enjoyed! Our server Julius made our experience even better. Sat outside and enjoyed a beer and a Kamboocha seltzer, both on draft which is HARD TO FIND in a brewery. Their Chicken Mango Link was awesome. I would order that alone next time and pair it up with mustard for a win win! Thank you! We will be back.

The guy at the register wasn't the friendliest, but I guess that's just service these days. The gentleman that brought out our food was very kind. The fries were fantastic; loved boar brat.

I've lived in LA for some time now and never made my way much to Silverlake and unfortunately not to 33 Taps until last night when I heard this was the go-to Knicks bar. I was NOT disappointed. Now, I was just a man looking for a sports bar to watch my team win, wasn't expecting much. So, I was pleasantly surprised when met with not only awesome fellow fans but also a kick-ass service team. That bar was so busy given the season and that was of expectation, but I watched the bartenders specifically handle it like a cake walk and even better, my drinks were FANTASTIC. From the Espresso Martini that got my not-so-young self through the night, to the Carajillo--those were elite cocktails and I had low hopes honestly. But, if they could impress me enough on an NBA Finals night to make a review, I can't imagine what a regular service day is like. GO TO 33 TAPS!!

We got here 1 hour before the game started and they were out of 3 mixers for cocktails, and two beers. Seriously? It's the biggest game of the year in the WORLD and you couldn't run a list the night before for what you needed? The food was pretty good, though. We shared wings and fries and they were tasty. The atmosphere was fun and set up for exciting visuals. Several big screen TVs, music during the commercials and a really cool wait staff who seemed to know all the regulars on a first-name basis. If you're in the middle of bustling Hollywood next to two other hot sports bars, you gotta have something that separates you from the pack. It's the perfect place to get your buzz on before you get yourself to The Greek. Or simply grab some bites and connect with friends in a casual setting. Personally, I choose to sit at the bar, but there are communal tables and more intimate booths, as well as patio seating with the massively tall, old, and iconic everygreen trees along Los Feliz Blvd. to further set the tone. I've been coming here for years just for the oysters. I'm a glutton for those shucked delicacies and Messhall does it up right for a great price during happy hour. On Tuesdays, they're $1 each and Wednesday Happy Hour prices are $2/oyster. They're always fresh and served with mignotte sauce (shallots + red wine vinaigrette). I like to pair my oysters with a martini so I often opt for the Gin Gimlet ($10) because crazy people love their gin. Or if you can take advantage of their Mini 'Tini ($6), then do so. Again, I go for a Gin Mini 'Tini because well, crazy people love gin. However, Vodka is another option for these adorable mini drinks for lightweights like moi. For the carnivorous souls, the Backyard Burger looks filling enough and there's a Hangar Steak with Frites (aka fries) that looks amazing and you can get that for $20 during Wednesday nights, which isn't bad these days for a solid piece of moo. The "Blackened Shrimp Slider" on the HH Menu isn't bad for $3. So if you're jonesing for a cabin-like vibe with a modern twist, Messhall is a good stomping ground for locals, and bar service is always on point. *** FUN FACT: Speaking of those evergreen trees just out front. They're often confused for pine trees, but they're actually "Cedar Deodora Trees" that were planted in the 1920s. They're like a century old now, which further adds to the charm of this area. Now if only they could share their opinions of Messhall. I bet they'd have a few campfire stories of their own to tell. ***

Why such a long hiatus? The tap list over the last months just hasn't had anything I've wanted to drink. It's been a lot of repeats of things I've had over and over or beers that just aren't appealing -- or, in many cases, both. The Glendale Tap used to have a fairly good turnover of new brews, but lately, it seems to be in a rut. Imports are pretty much never to be seen -- like everywhere else, sadly. Even out-of-state beers are rare. And on my most recent visit, at least half of the tap list was tapped out. IPAs and sours take up so much of the list -- stouts in the cooler months -- while styles like bitters, milds, (non-India) pale ales, brown ales, bocks, amber lagers, smoked beers, etc., get little to no space on the tap list. I still love the atmosphere of the Glendale Tap, and the bartenders there are the best. Prices are fair, and there's always something at least decent to drink. But I miss those fulsome tap lists with a variety of beer styles from far and wide. More and more, the Glendale Tap is becoming too much like every other beer bar. I know L.A. beer drinkers are extremely parochial with very limited tastes (basically IPA, IPA, IPA, and IPA, with some super sours thrown in), but I would hope the Glendale Tap could return to just a smidgen of its former excellence. Until then, I probably will be visiting biannually instead of bimonthly.

Well, the prices are a bit out of line for the atmosphere, with 6 of their famous wings costing you $14. Jameson Black Barrel was $15 for a shot, about $5 higher than the going rate. I get it: there are a bunch of trendy places on the street charging top dollar, and the Rustic is following suit, using their well-worn decor as their "theme." Clever, as a new place built from scratch might pay a million bucks to create the look they already have. But here's the thing: I stopped in on my way between Pasadena and an event in Hollywood, thinking I'd have a bite here -- and, while I'm happy to splurge on a good meal, I thought, "Do I really want to spend $50 on bar food served on paper plates?" If I had been out with a group for a night of partying, of course I would have happily gone along with it; but this time, riding solo, my answer was no. They do have parking behind the building which seems to fill pretty quickly if they're busy, but it's easy to find parking around the neighborhood. I am not usually in the tavern scene so I was surprised that we had to order and pay at the bar, but it wasn't a big issue. My friend and I split the kale caesar salad and the macaroni and cheese. For the table, I ordered the waffle fries after being informed by the kind waitress that that was the better choice over the pretzel (which she also said was amazing). Since the place was filling up for the final, the kitchen was a bit slow, but we barely noticed with how attentive the staff were in getting us drinks and refills. When it came to food, we were pleasantly surprised with this place and is honestly the reason I'm writing this review. The first things we got were the Beef Tallow Waffle Fries, Caesar Salad, and mac and cheese. Obviously the fries were much better, however the salad was also divine but just swimming in dressing. Back to the fries, we all were mindblown with how tavern fries could be this good and had so many flavors. Even the skinny queens in our group kept snacking on them which tells you how good these were. Mac and cheese came and it was standard and creamy but not necessarily something I'd return for. The surprising thing on top of the fries that majority of us loved was the Vegan Tomato Scampi with shrimp. It was fire and had me questioning if it was even Vegan. Would definitely return here if I find my way back to SoCal from the Bay. Great unassuming place with great food and vibes. Their bathroom as well is super clean and nice! Love this place!
