I've always seen Tal's Cafe around but after seeing a few videos and reviews on it, I decided to give it a try. I thought this was a pretty good neighborhood restaurant with super affordable prices and the food was decent as well. It was refreshing knowing there are still original and black owned restaurants in our neighborhood.

Fried Catfish, scrambled eggs, buttery grits, and toast.

I wanted to give them 5 starts but the wait for your food was close to an hour. No joke. We happen to go on a Saturday ( I know, I know..) but that was the only time we could get together. We arrived at about 10am, getting a table was ok. We waited about 10 min for the server then coffee. And then 45-50 minute wait for our order. The food was good. I ordered Catfish breakfast. It was over cooked. The grits were yummy. Good size portions. And the server was great.

The foods good but the waits horrendous I don't think they have a good system I ordered 1 2x2 which is just bacon, eggs, and pancakes and it took them over an hour to do it

My first time coming here was with my walk/run club. On the days we came there was music videos or tiny desk concerts on the television and we world be in there laughing and singing. Love the friendly neighborhood atmosphere. It's small but kinda cozy. You feel welcomed here and I love that. The food is decent.... I'm not gonna lie, it isn't always the same and I think it may depend on the cook that day. I recently had a pick up order for breakfast and it was delicious. I don't usually eat pancakes but I love them at Tal's.

Tal's Cafe is now under new management, and they are working hard to ensure the quality of the food reflects a return to the restaurant's glory days in the 1980s when I first discovered it. Unfortunately, the food is a hit and miss. A few weeks ago the food was good. However, today the burger patty was burnt, and the wings were fried in old grease that caused my relative to have diarrhea. Parking can be a challenge, especially on street-sweeping days. I would also suggest that they encourage customers not to linger outside the restaurant to smoke weed.

Entered to smiles and a welcome! We sat ourselves at a clean booth! I loved the life quotes on the black painted walls and, always love, seeing my President Obama and family portrait on the wall! Ok, in all honesty, Definitely go there hungry! Not starving! Hungry. Good food takes time, lol! Kudos to our server, Unique! She was thorough in explaining and answering all our questions. My veggie omelette was hot and perfectly prepared (well done) and I had a side order of the grits. My only complaint, they were not hot grits! Come on! . My husband had five pieces of chicken, wings, no wing tips, with his perfect eggs and well done waffle (which arrived late but I digress), he enjoyed everything, even the late to the table waffles! We will be back! Ty! P.S. was not a problem.

My first time visiting this place and it was such a vibe! The staff were courteous and down-to-earth, the service was excellent and the food was sooo good! I'm very picky when it comes to my grits, no everyone can make them right. These however were PERFECT. I felt like I was back home in my aunties kitchen. The parking isn't good, it's on a Main Street and the side residential street next to it is very strict with parking. When I arrived the owner made an announcement to everyone that we must move our cars to avoid a ticket (I didn't notice the sign that said no parking from like noon to 4pm or something). I was super grateful that she warned us in advance and gave us time to move our vehicles while waiting for our orders!

We were looking for a brunch spot and wanted to support a local business so we chose Tal's. Off first glance, it's a traditional small breakfast/ brunch spot that I grown up frequenting. The service was good. They greeted us and allowed us some time to view the menu. I ordered chicken wings, egg whites, home fries and sour dough bread. The wings were not bad but I wouldn't get them again; however, they taste like they were fried in the same grease the fish is fried in. The egg whites portion was hella small. I know it's only two eggs, but I would recommend getting more eggs if you are an egg lover. The home fries were very good. My son had a waffle that he loved. I taste it and it was very good and light. My wife had the same view as I about the chicken. She also had a waffle that she really enjoyed. The grits she stated were just ok. All in all the restaurant is a cool spot to go to if you are in the mood for simple eats. I gave it a decent 3 stars with nothing truly bad to say.

First and last time. Came on a Tuesday at 11:50AM and didn't get out food until 1:10PM. Restaurant wasn't busy at all, there was a normal amount of people, someone got their food in a fraction of the time we did and they got here 20 minutes after us. The actual restaurant was nice, it felt like a diner. The rating is this low because of how god damn long they had us waiting. I also ordered bacon with my food and even when everything else was out it STILL wasn't here. :( Very sad knowing the food is good but the wait time ruined it for us.

Porkchops, grits, scrambled eggs with cheese and an English muffin.

I stopped by for a late breakfast/brunch with my partner and two friends. It was my first visit. We found parking easily, but it could be due to the holiday. The place itself is clean, open and has minimalist decor that lends to a welcoming vibe featuring some really cool photography on the walls. The menu is definitely pared down, but there is variety enough for various moods and tastes. I had the avocado toast minus goat cheese and a raspberry (I believe) hibiscus iced tea. The pricing is fair for an individual-owned restaurant. I didn't experience any bad service and even when the gent calling out names had to repeat mine because I wasn't sure I'd heard right, he wasn't annoyed at all. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and cool. I am not being dramatic when I say this may be the best avocado toast I've ever had. The portion was a single slice of toast, but it was loaded high with fresh, delicately arranged ingredients. It wasn't too salty, which a lot of places make the mistake of making avo toast. It along with the delicious tea was literally the best first meal of the year I could imagine. The bathroom was clean and also featured more of that same rad photography inside on the walls. All in all, a truly wonderful experience! Walking back to the car past a dude playing conga drums and others just outside enjoying the day added to a wonderfully community-based feeling. I recommend! And I will likely be pin ring people in the direction of this place if they're in LA proper for the avocado toast alone! I devoured it before taking a photo, but I will get one the next time we visit!

In addition, the barista (owner possibly) gave me to taste their cold brew coffee and I was impressed on the notes it had. I love hot drinks more than cold, but I would say that I would never forget that cold brew he gave me to taste. The service, they are quite, but I was able to chat to the owner and to tell him that his spot is beautiful. He told me a bit about their art pieces at the wall. First sip and it got me sold; pretty surprised that the oolong was just syrup yet the flavor stood out pretty bold. The coffee also suited my liking, solid in flavor yet not acidic. One improvement I wish would be to have the online pre-order to be kept open until the outlet's closing time. We were heading there an our pre-closing time and intended to pre-order yet the online order seemed to close earlier. The venue itself was simple with minimal table and mostly just seats for quick coffee stop. They did have couple tables at the front patio should you fancy being outdoor.

Entrance was only from the residential street and looked to be valet / directed only - fairly packed. I found parking at the block nearby, a 3 minute walk. Walking to find RLA Cafe was a tad difficult, too. It's easy to miss since there's no obvious sign from the street side. Going through the parking lot was confusing as well. Once you make your way in, you'll find that it's very well designed, relaxing, and uplifting. However, a few spots make this less appealing to work at other than parking: * Wi-Fi requires a $10 minimum. Code is on receipt, but getting it was a hassle. The Wi-Fi is additionally on the slower end, and somehow I got cut off, or it stopped working after an hour. * Iced latte was mostly milk; there was barely a hint of espresoo. I got a large to "try" to hit $10 but it's really hard. Not having much ice could be seen as a plus, but this was probably the worst latte I've ever had. Felt like I was drinking milky water. * Need a $10 minimum? Good luck, there are menu items but no prices! Overall, for an $8 iced latte, it left much to be desired outside of the ambiance / environment.
