I've driven past this place many times and wanted to try it first time and was so excited. Packed with customers! Cute and a nice mature vibe. Called before I arrived and asked if they served fried pork chops. I was told enthusiastically YES! Get there after a long night at work (logistics). I'm hungry! Moby's was the spot in 1988 when I worked at Crenshaw Probation fresh out of high school. Their breakfast/brunch was very delicious, the service was great and the ambiance was amazing. It was a cool spot, with great people from the community and from outside of the area. My aunt and I worked at the probation department and she was also a travel agent at the (Whitman) Mayo Travel Agency that was on the same block the liquor store separating both businesses. This has always been one of my faves over the years and I must add they are still as good after all these years. The food is great and seasoned to perfection. I think I've had just about everything on the menu. My favorite is the grits and fish or chicken wings. The portions are more than enough, I'm always greeted with a smile. The service is great. Miraculously, traffic was light on the way to LAX on a Friday morning and my wife and I got into the area two hours early. Ventured into Moby's for breakfast and have now realized that arriving two hours early to LAX will always be the goal from now on so that we can stop in for a bite! It was nice and clean. They took a little bit long to come to my table and wipe it off the spinach omelette had too much spinach and the fish was double fry. Two of us ate at Moby''s Saturday 11/22/25 and were disappointed with our order. My Vegetarian omelette was very greasy, however my grits were good. My sister was the other person with me who said the chicken wings were large like a turkey wing, (possibly too much hormones) therefore not eaten, but ate the smaller chicken wings on her plate. Last but not least, a faint smell lingered in the air which smelled like old cooking oil. The service is horrible! Won't ever return here! There's one server for the whole place! It's been a while since I came here and unfortunately won't be back!! The food was bland. No seasoning. My patty just didn't taste fresh! Now when the bill came....was never indicated on the menu that if you pay card it's like a 2.50 difference versus paying cash! I ordered the patty melt. On the menu it says $14.99 when the bill came $15.59. My guys plate on the menu was $16.49 on the bill $17.15....now it's not the price moreso it doesn't state these specific charges on the menu! Poor quality food and even worse customer service. Would rather threaten to call the police then admit their mistakes and issue a refund. I placed an order for takeout for a grilled bacon and cheese sandwich with an addition of an egg. That's not what I received, I got an egg and cheese sandwich. I gave the restaurant a call to advise them of the mistake. I was offered to drive all the way back to have it corrected or to receive an IOU. I don't frequent this establishment enough to have an IOU nor did I want to drive all the way back (hence the phone call). I asked for a refund over the phone I was met pushback. The person who answered the phone advised that the cook said the bacon was on the sandwich and that I would need to prove it wasn't, instead of the cook proving it was. I was now a liar, the cook couldn't possibly have been mistaken. I was also told that to receive a refund it is typically required to inconvenience the customer and have them return in order to do so. I advise the restaurant that I would go ahead and follow their normal process and bring the food back and I wasn't happy about it. While en route to the restaurant, I was given a call and informed that they reviewed security footage, they already had available to them and determined that the cook lied. No apology was given for accusing me of being a liar or requiring me to come back. The refund that couldn't be done over the phone had now been done and I was not welcome to the restaurant because they did not want an upset patron in their facilities and they would call the police. I know the restaurant industry has low margins and $11.81 may be a lot to refund. I don't think it's good customer service to require a customer to come back or to submit evidence of a formal grievance. These are the same requirements the bank would have requested for a reversal, it was my hope that dealing with the restaurant would avoid such a tedious process. I find it disheartening that a business who made an error, accused the customer of lying about error, advised them of normal protocol, and when the customer attempted to follow their normal protocol, however, let them know that they were not happy about it, then chose to Weaponize the police. Especially when they made the mistake and they always had proof of their mistake available to them. Given the political climate in the neighborhood in which they're located one can only presume they meant to have their customer experience bodily harm. This restaurant does not care about the community in which it serves, it would rather cheat them, than hold themselves accountable. And when someone attempts to do so then they threaten to weaponize the police. I can only presume the owner is prejudice against customers and this is why their business is failing so badly they'd take these measures over $11.81. read more

I just placed an order for Mobys, but I have the unfortunate dilemma of living next-door to Sofi when there's a Rams Eagles game. I placed two orders one of them. I specifically asked for well done veggies the other was fine. When I called and spoke with the manager, she said no problem. Just bring them back with your receipt. I realized that I didn't have the receipt because at the end of any given week I could have 2030 receipts in my purse. I called back and got the man I know exactly who he is the Asian gentleman that works there or owns the place or whatever it is he was giving me a problem about potatoes! I spent $30 on my meal. Moby's used tone the place I always looked forward to having a simple but delicious breakfast. It was so much better when the Koreans owned it. Under the newer owners, the quality of service and food has unfortunately plummeted. I haven't been back there in about a year. The servers are always friendly and attentive to our needs and the cook staff gets it right every time. I took one of my grandsons and was blessed to expose him to this hidden treasures. Moby's is not what it used to be. We were so disappointed with the service and especially the food. They seem to know nothing about a true soul food breakfast. We won't be returning until things change in the kitchen. The food is not worth it at any price. The staff seems to know nothing about service. Looks like Moby's has abandoned our community. This is your typical diner, if you are a fan of diners then skip this spot, if you aren't a fan of diners the same thing applies. An associate of mine was on an errand and as a passenger princess I accompanied him and he decided to make a pit stop here for breakfast before heading back to our original destination, there's only street parking with small surrounding parking lots. As soon as he mentioned diner and hole in the wall I knew to expect the bare minimum, when you walk in it's very small and crowded not much space. It reminds me of sushi and ramen spots where you sit right at the bar or in front. He likes to be able to watch people make his food, Benihana style but breakfast. Not much decor or atmosphere, it gives eat and go vibes, I would never recommend a date here. Took awhile for service, she just slid us the menus and appeared to be the only server, while another male was a food runner/ busser. No idea if it was the owner or manager but this man was irate about the set up of inside, he started complaining about the to go area in the middle of the dining room, cleaning chemicals were on the counter etc he had to start organizing in front of us. Once that was situated she was able to take our orders, he got a custom omelette, I request chicken tenders w hot cakes for $12 they didn't have any chicken tenders. I just request a #3 it's 3 hotcakes, choice of eggs and protein, I got scrambled with bacon. While sitting there my company points out the wad of cooked bacon just sitting in the corner of the flattop, and I just knew my bacon wasn't going to be fresh. At least the pancakes and eggs weren't already made waiting to be served, they looked nice and fluffy. The portions of both our plates were good but I've never been to a skimpy diner. My hotcakes were ok, good texture just no flavor even with the syrup it was just missing that love pancakes have. Of course my bacon was cold since it's just been sitting out but it was good cold bacon, and my eggs were cooked right but just another bland edition. I did not finish my food because I was full but lack of flavor just wasn't good enough to continue to eat, no satisfaction didn't even want a to go box. My company finished his food but idk to many guys that aren't garbage disposals, he tried my hot cakes and didn't appear to want them either. We waited so long for our check, we started watching tv on his phone for a cool minute before she brought the tab, and then took another forever moment before he could actually pay. The tab rounded up was $40 which is usual, I always say at least $20 minimum per person when dining out. This place does not leave memorable dining experiences or serve good enough food to warrant a return. If anything I'll only remember this place now because of the person I went with but nothing more.
