For the money Tamarack is a great course, super challenging, and the condition of the greens and fairways is excellent. Most courses are pushing about $80 for 18 w/ a cart, Tamarack is half that. Played a dozen times last year and never had an issue with a bad cart. Yes play is slow and there's no marshals, but like most courses, it just depends on what day and time you are playing. Last year we were in a drought most of the summer, and everything was still nice and lush. Greens are usually in decent shape, and medium speed. Tee boxes are what you would expect from a muni type course, on the rough side, but you are not at a country club!! All the grounds crew was super conscientious about quieting their equipment when we were hitting our shots-very impressive. Even the head greens keeper was out checking practice greens and overseeing everything. We play the bunkers when condition allows, otherwise it's a free drop., imho most golfers should play this way since they can't break an egg, let alone hit a bunker shot. (PS: i'm a 10 handicap). Other reviews focus on the bunkers (lack of and sand etc.-condition-wise) but don't talk about how nice the fairways and greens really are, and just how challenging this course can play.. Turn away people that have paid because of attitude. Thought the first time was a one off as later in the season, but fool me once, shame on me, twice shame on you. Disappointing Experience - Not Worth the Time or Money I played nine holes at this course, but was forced to pay for a full 18--already not a great start. The course itself was in terrible condition. There was goose poop scattered across nearly every fairway and green, making it unpleasant and unhygienic. No one seemed to be repairing their divots, and it felt like the course maintenance crew had simply given up. To make matters worse, we encountered animal remains on one of the holes--not something you ever expect or want to see while trying to enjoy a round of golf. Sprinklers were inexplicably running the entire time we were out, flooding tee boxes and soaking large parts of the course, making play nearly impossible. One tee box was literally under water. The bunkers? Solid mud. No sand in sight--just wet, compacted muck that hadn't been maintained in what looked like weeks. This was hands down one of the worst golf course experiences I've had. Save your money and your time--there are far better maintained and more professionally run courses out there. read more

Summary: pro, cheap course- cons, very slow pace(no starter/marshal) and poor field condition I'm under no illusion I'm any good at golf, so it's nice to have a course close to home that's affordable. But unfortunately the rounds routinely take over 5 hours. I played the course yesterday with a 2:20 tee time and didn't tee off until 2:30ish and finished as the sunset at 7:15. The foursome in front of me was launching handfuls of balls off of each tee, blasting music, tearing up the grass with the carts- on 18 one cart unstrapped the others clubs bags. So when the drove off 2 sets of clubs fell off the cart, right off the tee box. All that to say the course has never had a starter or a marshall and it severely impacts the pace of play. Other reviews about the condition of the course could be justified for the price, but it seems the management expects the players and course to manage themselves. read more

This course was great 20 years ago. Over the years it's taken a turn for the worse. The course is not maintained. The greens are tore up and the sand traps contain no actual sand. They're concrete. All of the fairways run toward the water so plan on losing lots of balls. Today was the straw that broken the camels back. We booked a few day over the phone. When we checked in they told us they were overbooked and didn't have enough carts to accommodate all the golfers. We only had 3 in our group and we had to put the 4th, a stranger, in our cart. Not the end of the world, but we'd like the option. Course was backed up and it took us almost 5 hours to get in 18. Ridiculous. Then, one of our carts died right in the middle of the 18th fairway and we had to push it off the course. We always took this place with a grain of salt, but today was the final shoe. got to the course, wanted to check in and had to wait 10+ mins for a worker to be in the pro shop, then found out there is no marchall, there was multiple groups on every tee box, the course wasn't well treated by the grounds crew. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE SAND TRAPS!!! they were seriously like concrete. wouldn't even call it sand at that point. the tee boxes were over grown. and the thing that made me the most ticked off was that my golf cart ran out of battery on the 8TH HOLE!!! I COULDNT EVEN MAKE IT THROUGH THE WHOLE 18 HOLES WITH MY OWN GOLF CART!!! i mean we really have to step it up tamarack!!! do not waste your money on this poorly kept golf course. i wouldn't even golf here if i got offered money! read more

The entire family went here for their Easter Buffet. When you arrive you are greeted by the door with a complimentary glass of mimosa. That was so cool! Of course I had to order and pay for the second one but I couldn't resist. We have been here before for Easter. Its always good but it seems to get better each time. Some family members were in need of special order items and they gladly cooked them up and served them quickly. The buffet consisted of the usual items and then some. Food was hot and fresh and they kept it coming. The grandkids enjoyed talking and taking photos with the Easter Bunny. We all had a great time. read more

fathers day was a disaster. i have never seen a golf course like this. they were packed and by 9am we were 45 mins backed up. no carts were available. there were dead carts all over the golf course. golfers walking back to the club house on almost every hole. our cart died on hole 13 and me and mybrother in law and my 74 year old father in law and 69 year old father had to walk the rest of the course. no answer at the clubhouse. found the ground guy picking up dead carts and he said he would bring us one, he never came. the cart girl gave us a ride back. was told we were gtetting a refund. i called 6 times and still have not received a call back.....this place should be shut down.... read more

Attended a Summer wedding here. Run of the Mill. It is an Illinois golf club, so its hot, crusty and dusty all over the place. Not enough signs on back roads leading the way. Parking an absolute war zone. Golf course looked watered but pedantic! Food not bad at all. Ambiance like that of a hunting cabin. Old dance floors. Wiggly tables. Narrow. You had an event with about 50 carts and even though we got to our tee time 35min early and no one was in the course instead of allowing us to start early. You made us and others wait until your event folks rolled all across the property. It caused us to wait 12 to 15min at each hole. It was agonizing play. Shame on you. Was looking for a place to play at last minute and stumble upon this course. The staff was outstanding. They were super friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a nice place to golf, this is not the course to play at. My buddy and I played in the middle of June when the weather was perfect. The course on the other hand was far from perfect. Sand traps were basically construction zones with all of the rocks and gravel in them. There's ant hills all around the greens, if you would even call a couple of them "greens" because of how dead the grass was. A word that perfectly describes this course is crumby. I could take better care of the course single handedly. Once again, the staff was great and I genuinely enjoyed talking with them. My overall score for Tamarack is 4.7/10, I could definitely have some beers on the patio so that's gets a 7.2, and I left 3 stars purely because of the staff. I guess this is what a Saturday rate of $56 gets you. read more

I played this course back in the 90s when Dale Tallon was pro there. so when my son told me he was taking me out for fathers day to play there I was exited, however, when I arrived this was not the place I experienced in the 90s. club house and decking are run down, course was horrible, beat up dried out, not enough carts, and our cart ran out of power on the 11th and had to be replaced. Greens were arraited? could not figure that one out since most if not all courses in Illinois did that months ago. so they were horrible too. so the only good thing 1:30 tee time cost 49$ oh and sand bunkers just chip out, no sand. sad to write this! read more

Just play tamarack golf course today. I was a member 5 years ago for 5 years before that. The golf course was back then in beautiful condition. The new owners have turned this golf course in to what I would call one of the worst golf courses I've ever played on. I play golf a lot. And I am played battle courses that cost half of what it cost to play today. I will never go back there again. N if you want to have a good golf experience do not play here. I could Posts lots of pictures and show you how bad the conditions are. But it's just easier to tell you to save your money. I am reviewing the restaurant since I was here for Breakfast with Santa. I was pleased because it was not crowded, which can be a huge disappointment at similar settings. When I scheduled our reservation, they asked that it be done on the half hour starting at 9. This was very smart because they could turn over tables and more families could come later, if desired. You do not need to be a member, the food selection was nice, not too overwhelming, and Santa was very patient with the crying children. It was nice, clean, quick service, but the reason for deducting one star ~ it needs updating. read more

This course needs a lot of tlc. There are no rangers/starters so pace of play can be iffy. The scorecard indicates that there are 4 distinct sets of tees, however there are only three sets marked on the course (makes for some confusion as to which tees we should play from). The sand traps are mostly hard ground (very little sand) and many have large rocks and trash in them. It also appears that they have not cut the rough in quite a while (it was so long the many times the ball was very hard to find). Many of the cart paths had large holes. The wasn't a refreshment cart on the course. All of this can be corrected with the proper management. I have played at many other courses in the area for less money. This course is not worth the price that they are charging. read more

I have played many many different courses during my time as a golfer and this is by far the worst experience I have had. The grounds were nothing special and staff is no where to be seen during a round. This lead to being on top of players in front of us and vice versa to those behind. Either space out tee times or monitor play pace. So that your golfers do not have a rushed experience during what is supposed to be a relaxing activity. What made my experience so awful: We were on the sixth hole and after teeing off our cart shut down and would not move or turn back on. I attempted to call the Pro Shop, Manager, and even the bar to get help and all were answered with voicemails and that I was calling after hours. So what did we have to do? Walk all the way back to the club house with our bags from the farthest point we could possibly be at. I will absolutely never play here again. Anyone who allows that type of non-supervision and over seeing of golfers on their course is just simply irresponsible. read more

This review is 3 years late. And please note that this is not specifically for the golf course, but rather a review for the event space there. My husband got married here and I could not have been happier. Even though we were in Naperville, the prices were very reasonable and the room was perfect. We had approximately 80 guests at our wedding and fit the room very nicely. The food was INCREDIBLE (have the chicken dijon!), the dessert table with cholocate fountains were a beautiful touch. There was a little bit of turnover with the event coordinator, but absolutely NONE of our details got lost in transition. We were not charged more than we were quoted and even received a refund on the ceremony site because it rained (they brought the ceremony inside for us very quickly!) Our guests still compliment us that our wedding was incredible and they had so much fun. Not many people remember the quality of the food for most weddings as it is usually average. I still talk about it though! Thanks Tamarack for making our day special!! Someday maybe I'll return to play the course. ;) read more

Our experience with Tamarack started out great - in fact, part of the reason that we chose the venue was due to the ease of working with their Event Coordinator, Kirsty. She allowed us to do a pre-tasting of their food before signing a contract, since we had never attended an event there. The customer service started to go downhill when my Mother-in-law was attempting to schedule our rehearsal dinner. Kirsty would not respond to emails or calls and we were told that we would have to be in the smaller room, since the main dining room was being used for another event that night (which at the rehearsal, we found out that the main room was vacant & the "scheduled" event was the next morning, they had just wanted to be able to have the room set up). I had asked Kirsty on several occasions what time they would begin setting up our event, so that I would be able to coordinate when my photographers & videographer would be able to arrive. We were told everything would be set up by 2:30/3 and arranged our vendors according to that time. I had also asked Kirsty whether or not I needed to hire a coordinator for the day, to ensure that everything I had made for venue décor would be set up properly & also so that we had someone coordinating our ceremony processional. She ensured me that she would in fact be our coordinator for our wedding day & that everything would have been taken care of. I went against my gut feeling & trusted her - I sent pictures of our centerpieces & other décor, plus I had assumed if they began setting up at 2:30, I would still not be dressed & would be able to oversee the venue being put together. Upon arriving at our venue the morning of our wedding, I found out that the morning event before our wedding was not going to end until 3pm - a half hour after I had expected them to begin setting up the room for our event. Our photographers were set to arrive at 3:30 & our videographer at 4 - both were unable to get any of the shots that we wanted because the venue was still not set up when I walked down the aisle at 4:30. I was forced to pay our hairdresser for an extra hour, because I was delayed in getting dressed, since I was downstairs trying to make sure that our venue was being set up correctly. Let me make it very clear that we did not have a coordinator the day of our wedding - I was forced to greet all of our vendors, as well as go to the basement coolers to get all of the wedding parties flower arrangements for the wedding. Kirsty was NOT there when we were doing our processional line-up and my entire wedding party walked down the aisle not in order. During our ceremony, golfers were allowed to use the putting green, which is DIRECTLY next to our outdoor ceremony site, during our contracted time & you could hear them yelling throughout the entire ceremony. After our ceremony, we took our photos outside of the club house and despite having Passed Hors d'oeuvres, the wedding party was not offered appetizers or drinks from the staff. Despite having to start our ceremony late, (due to Tamarack), we were told we could no longer take our pictures so that the venue could begin serving dinner. We arranged for our reception to have a specific kids table, that had a separate candy centerpiece & would have 8 kids sitting at the table - ages 5-15. Not only was the centerpiece that I made not put on the table, but the entire table was served alcohol. I personally brought this to Kirsy's attention during the reception with no acceptable response or actions being taken and again brought it up to the venue's GM, Brett Hafstad - who basically told us 'my bad'. We had asked the staff to wrap 2 pieces of our cake for us to take with us, since we did not have time to eat cake during the reception & were told that we could not take food with us. At the end of the night, I went into office to get the bins for the décor to be put in to take home. I was shocked to find that the majority of the decorations that I personally spent countless hours making myself, had been left in the boxes in the office and never put out. Rather than coming to me while setting up and asking where we wanted these items to go - Kirsty left the in her office, this included the kids table centerpiece, wedding party display board pictures, centerpiece picture frames, thank you sign, & vase fillers for the bridal bouquet. Immediately upon arriving back from honeymoon - I reached out to Brett Hafstad, the GM. After 2 weeks of back and forth phone calls & emails, we were basically told that they didn't see how they breached our contract & offered us $300. They failed to see our point & understand why we are so upset with the services that we received. Your wedding day is supposed to be about you, the bride & groom and Tamarack made us feel everything but that. There was absolutely no effort on Kirsty's part to make our day about us or to relieve any of the stress - if anything, she added to it. read more

I was recently out here for a fundraiser that a client of mine was holding. The accommodations were great and the staff was very friendly. I wish there were a few more bathrooms/watering holes around the course but other than that, just fine for me. Lots of water and sand as mentioned earlier and it certainly was challenging. I think it's great for groups, we finished just under 5 hours. Practice green was nice but where is the driving range!! If I ever find myself this far out west with time to kill and my clubs, I'll definitely give this one another try. read more

I went to this restaurant for 50th birthday party on August. It was a beautiful venue, the food was decent. There were dirty plates. The buffet was empty for a long length of time. It was about 85 degrees in the location. I had to leave as I was getting sick. Don't go there. I don't recommend this venue. read more

This may be the worst experience I have ever had on a golf course. It took 5.5 hours + to play 18 holes. Tee boxes sloped, greens torn up and not a single marshal around to do anything about it. From someone who regularly plays the dog track that is Jackson park, this place was in bad shape. On the plus side it was almost impossible to get a beer or sub-par (golf joke) hot dog because there was a scramble being hosted by a bar that had their entire wait staff dressed in pirate wench attire. Some treasures need to stay buried, if you get my drift. I will never, ever play golf at this course again. read more

If you want to have a golf tournament, Tamarack Golf Club is the best golf course in the area to do it. My playing partner and I played in a Scrambles (Best Ball) tournament two weeks ago and also one today, and we couldn't be happier. Extremely classy assistant general manager Colleen is the main reason why. She is (by far) the nicest golf employee my friend & I have ever been around. We also love Tamarack's well kept greens and fairways. So we highly recommend this course! read more

On August 4th I attended a 50th Birthday Celebration and was not pleased with the service provided by this venue. First it was extremely hot inside I was wearing a sleeveless dress and sweating in my seat. I noticed dirty dishes on which food was served on. I just felt that the management provided poor service. The only hard worker was the bartender, he was friendly and professional. I would not recommend this place to my friends or family. read more

Course is well maintained, lots of water and sand so is challenging. Had one small hiccup when we got there to check in but the service by the Director of Operations was A+++++. The fair way are ok but a lot of dry, dead, ground under repair. The putting greens are a mess because the hacks that play there either don't know about repairing a divot or they could car less. It's a good starter course for those ready to move up to 18 holes but its really Hillbilly golf. I played for $18 and that would be the only reason to go back. We had lighting on the course twice and they do not have a horn to get you off. I called the pro shop on 14 when I found out this juicy bit of info. Went there on a Saturday expecting it to be very busy and about a 4 hour plus round of golf. The round was made painfully slow when a group of 4 jumped on the course on the 4th hole, 11th hole, and 17th hole. On the 4th we mentioned this to 2 different members on the golf course to get a ranger out. No ranger came. Music was blasting through speakers and still no ranger. At the end of the round I mentioned it to the pro shop and they said sorry. It was a horrible experience and I won't be returning for the rest of the season at least. I've played here about 20 times and the only reason is because it's 5 minutes from my house. Pro shop employees have no person and unfriendly. Pace of play is awful. At the turn while going to the bathroom the starter throws a 3 some in front of us. Tee boxes are awful. Rough is full of weeds and the skunks/raccoons have torn up the sod everywhere. We paid $26, and that's cheap, but anything over that I won't play here ever again. read more

So we just left the Tamack Golf Club. This was my first Mothers Day near my family in Illinois. We were asked as we entered if we needed a booster seat for my 3 year old Grandson. But it took several inquiries before we got one. Our introduction to our waitress was her spilling orange juice on my daughter in law, all over the table and in my sons shirt. She attempted to wipe it up never offering to get any wet cloths etc for the people. We asked to be moved and they said they would put a new table cloth in the table which they did. About 10 min went by and I finally got up to ask if we could get water, coffe, and juice. This was just the start. The food was less than adequate. The carving station ran out of beef and all there was was a leathery over cooked end from which the carver was still carving. When I inquired as to whether there was more he said he didn't know. The eggs all had melted cheese on them. We asked for some without and were told they didn't think they could make them. When I said "excuse me" they magically appeared. This was a disaster.
