I love this restaurant! It's a great place to get a (veggie) burger and local draft beer after a day of mtn biking or skiing. There are two menus: pub and dinner. I prefer the pub menu, but on nights when you're looking for more artisan cuisine, go for the dining room. Another perk at the Tamarack is the view: look out over the ski sloops or gaze at the foliage from the pub/deck. The Tamarack Grill is Burke Mountain's base lodge restaurant-- it overlooks the slopes, and sports an appropriately cozy, lodge-esque decor. Very Vermont. Aside from being terrified that the 2 vertical propeller-like ceiling fans were going to careen from their perches destroying the restaurant and its diners, we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. Our server was very nice. He was trying really really hard to tantalize us with the higher priced menu items, but we were all dead set on getting burgers...i think he was disappointed...and I think he may have hated us by the end of the meal, because we didn't want dessert, or second drinks, or anything. At least we got the smoked trout appetizer...which was actually the high point of the meal. The food overall was really only okay. My grilled chicken pesto sandwich was charred beyond belief, as was my friend's burger. Everything looked pretty well done in general. Our bottle of riesling was lovely though-- they seemed to have a nice wine and beer list. For a place that's supposed to be 'world famous' (self-proclaimed) I wasn't that impressed. I really need to go back here when I don't have a low grade fever and the chills. Went here with a friend this past weekend for dinner. It definitely is a cozy, cool spot nestled right at the foothills of Burke Mountain. The ambiance is warm and inviting with fireplaces, exposed brick, and warm lighting. Very spacious. We were seated right away. Our waitress was really nice but forgetful. They were not super busy but still, service was slow. We had the beer pretzel appetizer which was damn good. I had the Vermont black bean burger and my friend had a pasta dish. Both were pretty tasty. The best part was the toasted almond cake dessert though- absolutely delicious. Pros: very cozy and inviting, I would imagine more so after a day of skiing. Clean, spacious, extensive beer menu! Nice staff, good food Cons: slow service, had to ask for items (refilled water, ketchup, napkins, etc.) a bunch of times before they were brought over. Had dinner here w/ hubby a few nights ago. I got a burger, ordered med well. Came to me rare. Sent back to get a new one made. Meanwhile hubby's eating his dinner, so the waitress kindly brought out an app. It was pretzel crusted cheese curds. Deep fried too long. Thanks but no thanks. My burger came out after hubby was finished w/ his plate. Burger had NO flavor what-so-ever. Waitress was nice but we probably will no go back there. read more

We were here on the 4th of July and the Grill was super packed! The food was slow to arrive, but the servers were great -- they were attentive and made us feel appreciated -- we enjoyed the beer and atmosphere while we waited. Looking forward to a return, perhaps next time for lunch. read more

Friendly service when we stopped in for a burger. The game room was perfect for the kids as we sat and enjoyed the view of the sunset, and the food was great. Fried Bacon?? Mmmmm. Much different than the Tamarack that I remember, with a huge menu, but the service was solid. Nice to have the Red Sox game on, while still being able to humor my wife with Women's World Cup on another tv. We will be regulars, I have a feeling. read more

This place was wonderful! We had amazing zucchini fries and arugula salad! The food was fresh and delicious! The fish tacos were great and so was the cheese steak! Although, i might have gone a little lighter with the green peppers, but thats just me! It overlooks the mountain and is a beautifully decorated and presented place to eat. This is a great place to grab a beer and some food after a long day on the slopes. The homemade chips with blue cheese are delicious. In a small town like East Burke, a cozy bar with good food and screens for watching a bit of TV (i.e. zoning out) after a long day of skiing is a welcome addition. It seems to be catering to the city folks that come to Burke Mtn, and i dont think theres a problem with that. For those of us who travel far to get there, there's something nice about being at the Mtn even when the lifts have stopped running. read more

When at Burke Mountain the Tamarack Grill is a great place to go to. It offers a relaxing atmosphere by being above the main lodge and away from the general hustle and bustle. While the menu is not very expansive you will find something you like to energize yourself and get back on the slopes. The bar has an excellent lineup of beers on tap for you to enjoy. This was such a disappointment. We had heard this was redone and had a new chef etc. We went on a slow Sunday night with a party of 11. Though our waiter was nice, the service was slow and he seemed overwhelmed. By the time the food came out, the 6 kids cheese pizzas that were ordered were tasted by all the children and they all complained how spicy it was. Turns out the kitchen put Enchilada sauce on them all instead of pizza sauce. The manager came over and apologized and offered to make new ones. They did but this time came out loaded in cheese and undercooked. Three of the pizzas were left uneaten and the others were barely touched. One salad that was ordered was with tomatoes even though it had been requested without any and barely had any dressing. The only decent thing was the burger that was ordered. The worst was that in the end they still charged us 50 dollars for the uneaten pizzas, which in my book is poor management after the debacle that had occurred. They took away over half the restaurant to add in pool tables and other games. This itself is a fun addition to the mountain, however I would never recommend eating there. read more

My husband and I both ordered steaks last Friday night and were very disappointed in the quantity and quality of the meal, the steak had very little flavor and it was smothered in canned fried onion rings, yuck. The vegetables were just as poorly prepared. I heard they had changed the menu so I thought I'd try it again. Never again! read more

Use to really like this place when it was more of a pub/restaurant. When I went early this summer they seem to be more bar than anything else. Large menu was replaced by a folded paper menu with mostly pub fare. The room we sat in which use to be the dining room was filled with smoke from their kitchen. At the time I figured they must have burned something or had an issue however after returning there this past weekend we found the place filled with smoke again. In the past I found the food to be ok. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. In years past I always thought the service was great but both times I went there this summer it was painfully slow. I will say our server and everyone we interacted with was very friendly though. On our most recent visit I ordered a medium rare burger which turned out to be completely raw in the middle. My son ordered his well done and it was pink in the middle. The waitress was very apologetic and did offer to have a new one made but after the long wait to get our food I really didn't want to wait. She spoke to the manager and had it removed from our bill. Again, very friendly and seemed sincerely concerned that I didn't eat it. I ended up eating a few potato skins that my friend ordered but they were very dry and somewhat tasteless. Overall non of us were very impressed with our meals other than one of the kids who just ordered french fries. I hate leaving a bad review since everyone there was really friendly and accommodating however given how long it took to get our drinks and food along with the under cooked and tasteless food I thought I would share. read more

I always look forward to eating great food in VT but I have to say, our recent visit to this restaurant was just plain awful. My husband had the Skiier's Pie and it was dry, flavorless, the beef was overdone, almost inedible. I had the short ribs which were just terrible, not cooked well. The veggies that accompanied the ribs almost seemed like they were previously frozen and the mashed potatoes dry and tasteless. I hate to leave a bad review because we like having a beer at the bar here but we had a hard time paying the bill - the food was that bad! read more

We always go to the Tamarack Grill when skiing at Burke Mountain. Whether it's for lunch, apres ski or dinner we make a point to go here. The salads are delicious, great burgers including the Turkey Burger and we always order the homemade potato chips with blue cheese! Yummy! If skiing, lunch here is quite reasonable and if you head in a bit early you'll get a seat with a view of the mountain and skiers. Enjoy! read more

The tamarack grill (the tam) is a great place to eat. The food comes quickly and is delicious. While you are waiting to be seated there are a few fun things to do, such as darts and pool. Have only eaten at bar. Very good service for a ski bar/restaurant, and good beer selection. Food is decent, but you may not get exactly what you order. Nachos were massively portioned (yay!) but made with mozzarella cheese (?) unmelted in the middle. Blue chips advertised as being covered with cheddar and gorgonzola cheese, but in fact have no cheddar, but crumbled bleu cheese and a bit too much dressing (which isn't mentioned in menu). The restaurant is on Burke Mountain with gorgeous views. We started with a nachos appetizer and beer and it was very good. All local beers on tap and a great selection. It was Mexican night but I ordered a burger that was cooked to perfection. My friends got mexican and the tacos were great but the fajitas were only fair. More like TamaHACK. This place is going downhill fast, and I don't just say that because it's at the bottom of Burke Mountain. What was once a hustling and bustling establishment with at least 5 waitresses, a bartender, and mostly full seats, this place has turned into a reclusive ghost town with 1 bartender and 1 waiter/waitress. It WAS "the place" to get a refreshing pint of beer and some appetizers or even dinner after a long day of pedaling on the trails, especially for those camping or renting condos on the mountain. Our first visit this Summer was Memorial Day Weekend, which normally should be hopping. Quite the opposite. They unveiled a new menu, which had greatly diminished compared to their old one. It did not even have the "Burke Bleu Cheese Chips" on it, which was their claim to fame. However after inquiring about them, the chef made us a batch. What few choices that were on the micro menu were decent, but a little pricey and nothing to write home about. I just chalked it up as their first weekend open since the ski season and they needed to work the kinks out. This past weekend we returned to try it again. As one of the few eating establishments in East Burke and closest to the mountain, it seemed most logical. The dinning room and pub were completely empty, not even music playing through the speakers. We were seated on the deck with the five other patrons and soon were forgotten about. After 20 minutes of not being offered the new "less is more menu" or even a drink order while the waiter took care of all the tables around us, we decided to cut our losses and walked out. The one upside is they have an excellent parking lot for when you need to carpool to Lyndonville to eat dinner. read more
