Shrimp Pad Thai and Shrimp Fried Rice. Delicious and fresh!
    Tracey K.

We ordered a lot of food a little after 7pm and had it before 8pm. I got the shrimp pad Thai since that's my favorite. It was really good! I hadn't gotten Thai in a while from here. I ordered the chicken satay too. I love it with the peanut sauce and the cucumber sauce. Or are they dips? Hmmm. Four skewers per order. We were thankful they were open during this Covid 19 shut in and so quick. I had it for lunch today too. Still delicious on day two. I may have it for dinner too. I ordered shrimp fried rice and pork fried rice too. So much food! We will probably be eating it tomorrow too!!

It is very tempting to give Capital Thai 4*, but I am trying not to let Albany get the best of me. Must. Try. And. Keep. My. Standards. Here were the holy-shit-this-is-good-stuff moments: 1) Papaya salad: Seriously spicy. 2) Papaya salad: Whole dried shrimp. 3) Pad Thai: Pickled vegetable. Most ethnic food around the area sucks so bad, because I get the distinct impression that the restaurants are trying to cater to white people. (Can I say that?) Capital Thai goes where others fear to tread. That's not to say they don't do their fair share of pandering. I want to know who the regional restaurant supply rep is that has managed to sell sushi equipment to every asian-centric establishment. That person must be filthy rich, and he (or she) must be stopped. Here is where I get picky. Despite the pickled vegetable (an absolute must of a good pad thai) the noodle dish was lacking depth and flavor. Could have used more tamarind and fish sauce. But it was a solid, respectable effort, and wasn't flawed by being overly sweet. And despite the heat and the plump dried shrimp, the papaya salad felt a little wilty. Or at least wiltier than I would like. Which was still better than the deep fried tofu which was just kind of rubbery and chewy. I like mine crisp on the outside, pillowy on the inside. But these tofu slices were cut way to thin to every be allowed to shine. (My wife thinks they were just simply over-fried). The location is odd. The place is so clean that it feels almost sterile. I'd prefer it to be smaller and dirtier, with a little more soul. Thai food is soulful food, and this room is its antithesis. But overall, it's very good. I'm thrilled to have decent Thai food in the area. And this will clearly be the place I go to scratch that itch. Hopefully, as I try more and more of the menu, CT will earn it's 4th star.

Baby corn stir fry with chicken and extra vegetables added. Yum!

We stopped in Friday night and were happy we did! Food was great! Ordered the Baby corn stir fry and the curry with green beans. It was fresh, delicious and hot! We'll for sure be going back to try more dishes.

Mixed reactions to this place. Ordered a Thai tea, tempura, and pad Thai. Thai tea was decent. Came with a cute straw topper. Tempura was not so great I wouldn't recommend it. It was super bland they give you a super sweet sauce to go with I prefer the soy/ savory dipping sauce. When ordering the pad Thai I asked if it came with bell pepper because I'm not a fan she said no I Specifically told her it was because I didn't like them. Well the tempura have two huge piece of bell pepper. Here is where I have mixed feeling about the pad Thai. The taste was great I got beef , their were very little piece but I attribute that to it being lunch time that wasn't the issue. The issue was half of the tin it came in was bean sprouts looks like they only filled it with half noodles and then the other half is completely bean sprouts to the bottom of the tin. I would probably give them another chance but would eat in instead of take out.

I decided to check this place out based on Yelp reviews. Hmmm... For an appetizer I got the meat gyozas which were decent. Be warned though... they serve them with a curry / coconut milk sauce which doesn't really work as a side dipping sauce. For an entree I got the chicken with Capital Thai sauce which is tamarind based. I'm need to preface by saying I do a lot of Asian cooking myself. From experience I know it can be tricky to work with fish sauce and tamarind as they have strong flavors and aromas. Well.... when the dish arrived it smelled shockingly horrible. My initial thought was "...OMG I shouldn't have ordered this!" However having worked with the ingredients myself, I knew to not be dissuaded. As it turned out, the dish was DELICIOUS. The taste did not share the same extremes as the aroma. I just hope other people with less experience with this type of cuisine are not put off easily. The place is clean but those chair covers are awful (see photos). The staff were nice enough but pulled a disappearing act. They were clearly in the back talking loudly amongst themselves but we're basically absent from the dining room. People who came in after me looked around to see no staff, shrugged and seated themselves. Although my entree turned out to be very good, the overall experience is really worthy of only two stars.... Maybe 2.5. I much prefer a different Thai place on the same street way down closer to downtown.

No liquor license, so no sake, but lots and lots of bubble-tea. And almost no interaction with sushi chef (and no seating at sushi bar) - all orders are placed and paid for on one of two digital podiums. Oh, yeah. You are probably going to want to rub your waribashi together to break off any splinters or sharp edges. Not the best quality. Unfortunately, the food itself is also unremarkable. The sushi rice was very lightly seasoned. The nori wrap was so tiny on the nigiri tamago and unagi, there is no possibility that it could hold each piece together. Maybe the owner only allows the chef to use 1 sheet of nori each day. The ikura on the gunkenmaki didn't have that little "pop" when you bite on one, confirming the freshness. And the barely spicy salmon maki was partially minced salmon, with a bit too much non-salmon filler. I'm sure the college kids love this place. 2023 05 31. S14.

I usually like getting a "Salmon Lovers" from the place in Stuyvesant (Mr Fuji sushi) or Asian Tea House in Rensselaer. Asian tea house's salmon lovers is really good, but they are further away and it's like $28. Fuji sushi is more comparable in price to Oishi, but the salmon isn't as buttery and delicious. Pretty much every time I have ordered now from Oishi I'm extremely pleased with the salmon and have even tried a few more menu items. My husband loves the fried coconut shrimp on their app menu. The shrimp tempura roll is a bit overwhelming but also good. The salmon/avocado roll is also great.

Before preparing the chicken, steak and shrimp, he entertained. He sang a little, smiled a lot, and used a toy pump gun to shoot Saki into the mouths of willing guests. It was well done and well received! Then he cooks the proteins. The large shrimp and steak were my favorites. Chef circulates offering the signature Japanese steakhouse condiment: Yum Yum Sauce known for its great flavor. Chef refills the pump gun with water and entertains young guests. We were clapping and cheering. He paid special attention to the guest of honor, the grad. (My grandson) very nice! Then Chef gives us a fire display and some juggling tricks. More laughing and cheering. Chef passed out take home containers if needed. Without me asking, Chef gave me the Yum Yum Sauce to take home. Lots of compliments to hosts on the quality of the food. The cost per person is substantial BUT worth every dollar. In fact, my SIL gave Chef a generous extra TIP to thank him. Check out a few photos to get a feel for the experience.

When we entered there was no host at the counter, we were just standing there for a minute or two before we started searching for someone. Finally, a lady came out the back kitchen and seated us. We just wanted a small lunch since we were planning on picking up food from Che Figata later that evening. Well, I guess there is no regular menu only the all you can eat buffet menu ($28 each)? The way it works is there is actually no buffet at all, you must place an order for items on the buffet menu then wait for the food to be delivered. If you're still hungry and want more you need to place another order. On one hand, your food would be fresh and not sitting out on a buffet; alternatively, most people will fill up before their second or third item arrives. Something to note is you can only order 2 pieces of sushi or sashimi per order, and one sushi roll per order. It wasn't too busy; however, customers that were already seated were just twiddling their thumbs waiting for more food to arrive and there was only one server and she didn't look like much of a go-getter. After about 5-minutes of waiting around for something to happen we decided it would be better if we got the hell out of there before we were stuck sitting around like everyone else. I guess this concept works as this restaurant does have good reviews, but I just didn't like the vibe and couldn't risk a potential bad experience on Mother's Day. Sorry Sushi Shine, we decided to go to Sawa Shushi Bistro instead and had a wonderful experience there.

Instead, here are my Pros and Cons: Pros There is a wide variety of seafood, the likes of what I have never seen before at a buffet (not that I do many but ...). Snails, abalone, whole fish, crab legs, stone crabs (small), crab backs, whole baby octopus, oysters (raw and cooked, fresh), squid, and shrimp offered in a variety of ways. The problem with the crabs is that they only give you a cracker; they don't provide you with a proper tool (pick) to remove the meat from the shell, and the crabs are frozen and overcooked, so it's difficult to remove the meat. Also, what they offer as "butter" tastes like old cooking oil. Ugh. Frustrating. There are also frogs legs (interesting), chicken, pork and short ribs. Plus some veggies. Something for everyone. Cons The ladies room was dirty. Really dirty. See photo of hair on counter next to sink. The sushi offerings were a series of mostly empty serving dishes of dry pieces. I love sushi and this was a real turn off. Then there was the live fly in the pudding (photo). Disgusting. The waitress was very apologetic and took 10% off our bill but I was not keen on eating anything else after that. The service was fair. Wait staff standing around chatting. Could have been a bit more attentive removing used plates. The take away is this ... would I go back? Yes, I always give a place a second change to redeem themselves. And since several people left good reviews about the hot pot, I would try that (it would be a first). But I would go there when they first open and the food is fresh and only if I was in the area.
