The location is beautiful! A little bit out of Durango, so not many food options off the resort. The staff is friendly.

Gorgeous location nestled in the mountains. North of Durango proper, but the drive is scenic and full of good places to stop. Very accessible spot. We stayed in a room with a view of the golf course, and we watched the sun rise and the turkeys go by every morning over coffee. Lots of wildlife, nice staff, great stay, free parking. read more

Read carful because it might say it will sleep 6 but 2 of the people will be sleeping on the most uncomfortable sofa bed I've ever seen. This resort is VERY outdated and the water stains on walls & ceiling were a little concerning. We rented through a vacation rental company and wasn't impressed. You are given 6 towels and if you need more you have to wash the ones you have at your own expense. The only reason I gave it three stars was the location is nice and the views are beautiful. The restaurant located just walking distance was horrible and I wouldn't suggest dining there. You get what you pay for at this resort. read more

I booked a vacation rental through VRBO at this resort for a ski trip in Durango, CO. The host that I booked it through was fabulous, but I cannot say the same for the customer service we had at the front desk. The views were beautiful as well as the lodge itself. Me and my friends flew to Durango therefore not having a vehicle. We took a cab from the airport to Tamarron Resort, got dropped off at the main lodge and went to check in. Apparently the place I booked was at the highest point of the lodge and about a mile walk uphill with no vehicle. I did not know this information when booking or I would have been prepared. Man at the counter basically said to me, "you can either call the cab back, or walk". Great customer service right? So we walked a mile uphill, at midnight, luggage in hand through about 1 foot of fresh snow as well as it actively snowing. Not the best first impression of my first time visiting CO. What if I had my elderly grandparents with me? Or a child? Like I said we were there for a ski trip. Purgatory resort graciously offered a free shuttle from Tamarron to the ski resort. But guess what? Tamarron did not have any transportation to take people from the very top of the hill and down to the main lodge. So what did we do for three days straight? Walked downhill to the main lodge at 8 am and walked uphill back to our VRBO around 5 pm. Long story short, Tamarron you should probably think about offering some kind of transportation to bring YOUR guests to and from the main lodge if needed. Safe to say, I will not be staying here again until they figure out a solution to that problem. read more

Great for golf and food. Long drive from town but generally worth every penny. Long time residents and high costs are somewhat off putting but the food, golf and adventures in hiking and biking make it a great trip read more

Tamarron Resort Durango - Glacier lodge golf course - Resorts Near Me - Durango, Colorado

I accidentally wound up here while looking to force an appreciation for the great outdoors in a rugged mountain cabin on Airbnb. I was pretty surprised to see this was a fancy hotel resort. There is a great view of nature from the 5th floor lofts. You can't necessarily touch it though. So in order to get our outdoor family adventure in, we walked across the parking lot to the fountain ponds on the side of the road. "ahh take it in kids. That there's fresh mountain air, and that there's an RX-350 SUV!" We went swimming. The floor was gross. They need to have a no-shoe policy. It was really just muddy and hairy. You really want to bring flip flops to avoid pathogens as the joint is too upscale for the traditional plastic shopping bags on the feet with bungee cords. The big pool was colder than normal. You never really got acclimated even after moving around vigorously under water. There is this great feature where you can swim under a wall and be outdoors. The sky looks amazing right at sunset. Would be incredibly romantic if not for the extremely cold temperature of the water. I noticed in other reviews there were some complaints about kids in the hot tubs... well if the pool were a little warmer, the kids wouldn't want or need to be in the hot tub. They simply can't stand the cold for very long. The room was just like your rugged cabin should be with a jacuzzi, wet bar, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and Netflix. read more

I would give it 5 stars but my pillows when I first arrived were really firm! Like I could've used my shoe as a pillow and been more comfortable. I ended up getting a softer pillow from room service and the stay ended up being great. The room was a great size and clean. Had the worst customer service experience at the Tamarron in my life - hands down. Check-in was great, the room was great and we were excited to stay at the Tamarron for a couple of nights. It all went horribly wrong when I decided to take my 3-year old daughter to the pool. Here is the short summary of my experience: - Was asked to sign-in to use the pool. Seems like an odd request so when asking why. Charles (the pool mgr) responded with exasperation but didn't actually answer the question. When I pressed a bit, Charles exasperation shifted to frustration. I didn't have a problem signing in, just didn't understand why I needed to. He never gave a good answer. - Then frustrated, Charles asked how old my daughter was. I informed him that she is 3 and he asked if I had a swim diaper. I said no (she's potty trained for 1.5 years now) and he pointed to a sign that read "Children under 3 must have a swim diaper to use the pool" - "Under" being the operable word. He informed me that she would be unable to use the pool as I didn't have a diaper for her. - I asked why the discrepancy between the sign and his verbal rule and he said he wasn't going to argue with me (I wasn't arguing at that point). His response was ultimately "I'm the Pool Manager and I said so" he then went and locked the door to the pool (as if I might sneak in there???) - I was then informed that the swim diaper is a Colorado State law - which i can't substantiate, but seriously doubt since we went to the Glenwood Hot Springs, Ouray Hot Springs, and our local rec centers in the Denver area and have never seen this "law" nor its enforcement. I can't help but think this is a lie, but would be happy to be proven wrong. - At this point I was frustrated and asked to see the manager. Charles claimed "I'm the manager" and wouldn't give me the hotel manager's name. When I asked why he was being so rude he told me to "Stop asking questions you Dumba**" I immediately went to the front desk, explained my experience and was introduced to the property manager (Dave Dunn) who listened and followed up with Charles - Charles admitted he had called me by that name (in front of my daughter no less). We were given permission to access the pool but at that point I wanted no part of the hotel and we left immediately. I don't know if the pool manager still works there (Would hope not since his actions go against the most basic notion of customer service and set a horrible example for other employees) - but if he does, I would not stay here regardless. Its too bad, we were hoping for a nice stay at an otherwise great place, but when I pay for something I expect courteous answers to innocent questions and spirit of hospitality - not aggression or outright rudeness. Everyone except Charles was great - just goes to show what one bad apple can ruin. Oh, and while speaking with the manager they changed the sign from 'Under 3' to '3 and under'...convenient. read more

My wife is originally from Durango so each year around Christmas we retire to the mountains with our children to enjoy a couple weeks of the great outdoors. We had stayed at this resort (if you can call it that) three years earlier for a couple days out of convenience so when when my brother in law told me they had rented a unit we decided to do the same. I hate to end a good year on a bad note. We called the resort and rented unit 868/869 which was reported by Heather their vacation rentals manager as the best unit they had @ $2800.00 for 10 days. They originally wanted more than $4000.00. If I had paid that I'd likely be at the local pharmacy begging for some Prozac or anything that might make this whole experience go away. We rented the larger unit so we could host our family for a Christmas Dinner. Let me detail our issues with the unit. I would describe the beds as soft concrete. My wife and I have spent the last four nights on the two couches in the very small living room. The locks do not work on the bathrooms. The master bedroom located 5 feet from the kitchen doesn't even have a lock on the door so forget the romance. The oven is broken (so forget the family meal), no fireplace in the mountains, the grill on the porch doesn't work, the rooms have very old 19 inch TV's lesser than what you would expect at Motel 6. The toilet float keeps sticking in the upstairs bathroom and the thermostat doesn't work properly and is coming off the wall. I could keep going but why its very depressing. Now lets discuss the lodge. The nice restaurant they had here closed down 3 years ago along with an entire wing of this aging resort that is now become abandoned and fit for filming a horror story. The only restaurant here is a very small lounge called Cuckoos which is located 10 feet from the front desk and serves crappy breakfast with no eggs on the menu. This is also their lame idea of a bar which I couldn't help but visit to try and forget about the room. Here I dropped $250.00 buying my brother and law and several Tamarron employees who were sitting at the bar cocktails. Heck its not their fault this lodge has become so dilapidated. Almost done- Heather the Vacation Rental Manager charged our card $1400.00 for the deposit several weeks ago to save the unit. She never sent us any policies or lease documents to sign. When we checked in on December 26 we told the front desk we were unhappy with the unit and wanted to speak with the manager. He walked into Cuckoos to speak with Heather then came back and told us she had no other units and that she would speak with us about it in the morning. I walked around the corner and seen her seated at a table where people were drinking. Come on Heather give us 5 minutes its our family vacation. The next morning without a phone call or further discussion AND KNOWING WE WANTED TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE she charged our card the remaining $1400.00. Here we are 5 days later and we still haven't checked in or signed any documentation. The only communication we have had with her was a call to inform us the fire alarm had malfunctioned and we must vacate the unit until maintenance could get it fixed. That took all day Wednesday and we weren't allowed back in the unit until 4pm that day. Oh well at least the wife enjoyed shopping in Durango all day. Important lesson here is don't waste any of your bottom line on this dump as there are many other accommodations around Durango much more suited to your needs. read more

Ok, the ONLY reason why I don't give it 5 stars is because of the kids in the spa. After a long day on the mountain and being sore as hell, all we wanted to do was have a glass of wine and sit in the spa before dinner. The pool is heated, let the kids go in there. I know there is an "Adults Only" Jacuzzi, but it fits about 4 people so it doesn't really offer much. Other than that, the place was AMAZING. We say 10 elk in the valley under our balcony one night. It was extremely memorable and worth the 8 hour drive from Scottsdale! read more

This is our family's second time staying here. We've come twice for our New Years snowboarding trip. The service here is awesome. Front desk is open 24 hours and quick to answer questions. I've noticed there are older and newer condos. Be sure to check the upgrades in the place. Both times we made sure to pay more and stayed in nicer condos. Totally worth it! The layout for our place (795-796) is the same as the last condo we got with a connecting suite however, this one doesn't have an enclosed master downstairs which made it ackward waking up. I think this condo sleeps the most people, up to 12. They also have a free shuttle that takes you to the ski resort. Very happy with Tamarron and will continue to book here! read more

My husband & I stopped here on a road trip through Colorado even though I had read mixed reviews. Yes, the place is rustic and could stand some updating. But we loved the large standard room with a magnificent view, the cute bar on site, and the friendly staff. We were here 3 days, and didn't mind the drive into town for dinner. Our first time at Tamarron was the summer of 2015. It's setting at 8000 feet altitude is in the big pines. After a rain, sitting outside is as relaxing as it gets. Our unit #615 was modern and well appointed. The owners have made an effort to keep it updated and it is appreciated. The staff at the lobby is very friendly and helpful. The Durango area is an outdoor wonderland in the summer. Whitewater rafting, riding ATVs in the mountains, the famous train ride... The week will fly by. We returned in January of 2016 and stayed at the same unit. Purgatory mountain is 5 miles up the road and had awesome skiing. During the Monday-Friday days there are no lines. Finding this place was a little difficult because there were no signs. The front staff was very friendly and helpful. Very cottage/cabin feeling throughout the place. Our lodge was very roomy and updated! Decent size bathroom with really hot water! It had a lil fridge, stove, sink, microwave, and all cooking utensils. The carpet was nice too, not your normal cheap hotel carpet. The view was beautiful, it overlooked the mountains and road coming in. The pillows were pretty hard and housekeeping will not do your dishes lol. Great lodge and perfect location. read more

Found an awesome condo for the weekend here at Tamarron. Pool and amenities were included with the nightly rental $5 per night not hour . That's just silly that someone said $30 an hour! Lodge was very well kept,and staff were extremely helpful. Taxes are taxes, and every room for rent in the city has them. I can say that after checking at least 10 places in Durango for room rates,Tamarron was the least expensive and had the most to offer. read more
