Love this place despite the age of the building. We drove 4 hrs for a day trip to get our dogs spayed so instead of trying to sit in our car for 8-9 hrs we thought we would ask if they could let us rent a room for the day and possibly the night. The lady at the front desk was super friendly and said we could. So we paid and dropped our dogs off to get spayed. We returned to the room and took our luggage in. We went to enjoy the hot tub, the steps into the hot tub are tricky but it felt nice after a 4 hour drive. All in all if you like history this is the place to go. Yes! It's outdated! Yes! It's dingy! But the views of the animas river are amazing. Staff is super friendly. We will return again and again. read more

Great location ! Very close to multiple grocery stores, including Albertsons ! Really nice , warm and welcoming staff . Everyone went above and beyond in terms of customer service . Shout out to Delaney and Iresa who made my stay especially wonderful. Also really love the smell of the body wash and shampoo ! My ADA room had a riverview and was very cozy and convenient to the elevator ! Also, the cookies were really too die for! This will definitely be my preferred hotel choice for future stays in Durango / visits to purgatory mountain resort! read more

Overall, the experience of staying at this hotel was... okay. The property has a nice lobby, beer garden and location. Being right next to the river, the scenic views are incredible. However, the building appears to VERY old and has outdated amenities that are expected for the price point. Noteworthy issues: - The sliding glass door for the "upgraded" room with a river view is difficult to use. - The balcony, which required a paid upgrade, is very small and has two metal chairs. - The TV, microwave and fridge all appear to be from the early 2010s. While the microwave and fridge still worked, the TVs age was obvious. No capability for streaming and limited channels. Not a big deal usually, but, given the price, it's expected. - The shower in the bathroom is contained within a bathtub. The bathtub did not drain properly. As such, showering quickly resulted soapy in water up the ankles. - Dark red stains were visible beneath the sinks, on the walls. - Several small bugs were located behind the TV. Noteworthy qualities: - Hotel staff was very friendly and easy to work with. - Location Summary: For the price of a night at a Ritz Carlton, you can experience the quality of a Days Inn by a pretty river. I arrived here early afternoon before check-in. I knew I was early, but went to the front desk anyway, and they told me that they would text me when my room was ready. After a couple hours went by and I didn't hear anything, I went back to the front desk and my room was ready, but they never texted me. I don't expect to get a room early, but I do expect that if they say they'll text me that they do. I was also really surprised that I had to pay for parking. While the hotel is older, we were very satisfied with it. We reserved a room in the first floor with a sliding glass door that opens to the Animas River. The heater kept us warm without being noisy. The shower was good. We also had a microwave and decent sized fridge in the room. The staff was welcoming and very nice. The location is perfect for the Durango & Silverton train and for the downtown area. We would definitely stay here again. read more

I can park my car and walk to Main Street and not have to worry about tickets, the cops were handing out parking violations like they were candy in a previous trip. The Good: location, location, location. Very close to downtown with fabulous river views. Dog friendly ($35 per night for a dog). Large rooms. Plenty of parking. The Bad: rooms aren't very clean. Hotel is very dated... Needs to be remodeled badly. Slow service (restaurants, room service help, etc). less comfy beds and AWFUL sleeper sofas (you can't have someone sleep on these - even kids can't sleep on sleeper sofa). Tiny closet. Despite huge property, poorly laid out. We've stayed everywhere and suggest the Fairfield 100yards down the road. Just as convenient and much cleaner with free breakfast. read more

I visited here about 5 years ago and nothing has really changed. I think the carpets are newer. This could be such a lovely hotel. It just needs an upgrade. The staff was very pleasant, we ate in the Beer Garden, it was very good for dinner. Great beer on tap from Breckenridge Brewery. The location is excellent, right on the Animas River, which has a wonderful riverwalk. I had kind of hoped they would have stepped up the game since my last visit - like updated paint, furniture, lighting, but they only managed carpet (grateful for that as I tried to keep up my regimen of push-ups last visit and could not bear it). I can somewhat understand that the past two years have been difficult for all businesses. But please, invest in your property, it's begging for it and it will pay off!! Chocolate chips cookies still provided in arrival, a tasty treat. I'll likely visit again, such a pretty location, and also close to downtown. The location was excellent located on the Animas River, excellent running trail located outside the hotel along the river. Walking access to the town for dinner and about a 30-minute drive to the hot springs or Purgatory Mountain. The service was very nice and accommodating. The hot tub was perfect after a full day of shredding on the mountain. Will stay here again and reccomend. read more

The hotel overall is rundown and seems to be in decline. It is definitely not worth the nightly rate that is charged, despite its proximity to Main St. and views of the Animas River. We were booked for a three-night stay but ended up leaving a night early. Our decision to leave was the culmination of several issues, two of them safety related. My kids got rashes from swimming in the swimming pool and both kids had burning of their eyes from simply being in the water. At one point we were considering finding an urgent care because of the level of eye pain, even after 30 minutes of flushing their eyes. Our room not only had the elm beetles but also an apparent wasp nest; when we informed the staff of the wasp issue, they shrugged their shoulders and said they were glad no one had been stung. Our room had broken curtain rods and a broken tub faucet, neither were fixed 24 hours after we let staff know. Around 8 p.m. our second night, a (rather drunk) couple accessed our room. Furniture in general is run down, the windows are single pain, allowing the highway noise into the room. I would look elsewhere for lodging while in Durango. read more

Horrible DoubleTree experience. I booked a room and paid for it ahead of time. When I arrived, they told me they oversold the hotel and could not accommodate me. The whole town of Durango was sold out and there were no rooms to be had. To try and make me feel better, they offered me a free dinner at their hotel while they tried to find me a room somewhere else. After the "free" dinner they offered me, they told me I had to pay $30 for the 2 glasses of wine I had. The manager was threatening towards me and treated me like I was walking a bill. This was the worst experience ever and embarrassed me in front of other guests. read more

We were very comfortable, attended to, and had access to a nice restaurant. However, when driving in, we were outrunning a storm and needed early access to our room. In a stroke of good luck, Qing answered when I called ahead to plead our case. She was so incredibly kind and readily agreed to do whatever it took to accommodate us. Our entire three night visit was met with this quality and attentiveness: Lincoln!, Marty, and others. Priceless. read more

I was looking forward to my families one night stay here passing through Durango as it appeared to be advertised as one of the nicer hotels in Durango. For the price you pay, I can honestly say that it really wasn't great. The building and rooms look like they were made in the 70's and haven't been renovated in a long time. As someone who comes from the hotel industry, it's important to keep up to date with renovations in order to keep people happy. First off, the beds are not the most comfortable, and definitely feel dated. The sheets in our bedroom had stains on them, which made us pretty grossed out and concerned with the level of cleanliness of the hotel rooms overall. This was an immediate red flag for us. The windows are old and not sealed properly so you could hear the cars out on the street all night as well as a bitter cold draft coming through them. When we turned the temperature in our room up to 74 degrees, we realized it was pumping cold air all night instead of warm air. We went to bed and woke up freezing because of this. Wallpaper is coming off the seams of the walls, and overall the hotel needs lots of renovation. Small waters in the room are $3.... Seriously? Also, you have to pay for WIFI if you are not a Hilton Honors member... this was so bizarre to us given the amount you pay, you could get free wifi at any of the other motels/hotels in town and pay a lot less. It was a total bummer. Lastly, if you plan on working out while on your trip, know that the gym is nestled in the basement and is incredibly small with minimal equipment. The hot tub happened to not be working while we were here but that didn't ruin our trip overall. I would also say that it appears that they are understaffed (could be because it's the off season?), however, for the most part, the front desk workers were kind especially Jason. One of the ladies of the kitchen staff accommodated us to toast our bagels we brought since the toaster was not out anymore which was also kind. Overall, I would definitely stay somewhere else while visiting Durango. This wasn't the WORST stay, but definitely not the best. The hotel needs some work, and I wish them well. read more

Greta views, but not great rooms. Not bad, just not worth $400+ a night. They do have a few Tesla destination chargers, which is why we chose the property. The location right next to the river is nice. Didn't have any amenities that would warrant the price tag. My wife was really upset that the gym didn't have AC. We were very surprised by this hotel. What a bargain it was to be on the river front with a balcony to watch the rafters and kayakers drift by. Beds and pillows felt new. Bathroom was very large with two sinks and new fixtures. Everything was clean. The front desk gal (Kelly) was charming and filled with great advice about Durango. Cleanliness. Important to me in a hotel and it's lacking at this one. Brown smudges in drapes. Dusty room. Dead flies on the window sill in the Grille. Carved art in lobby areas need dusting. Windows smudged. This place is seriously outdated. Renovated bathrooms off main lobby harken to what a Reno might do for the place and yet it seems so odd with the outdated rest of the place. And yeah, bathroom needs a clean. They did readily send someone to unclog the bath tub drain. Here's hoping next shower we aren't ankle deep in water. Fixed it for about a day. Not sure what's up w that shower. Location is great. Easy walk to downtown. read more

This is a Hilton?!! Best is the staff, always friendly, efficient, and helpful. The view of the river is great. But, the facilities are very tired; the place is sorely in-need of updating and refurnishing. The metal sash doors to the outside provide almost no sound prevention against the 24-hour heavy truck traffic noise on the two US highways next to the hotel. The room furnishings are worn out. The vinyl desk chairs are pathetic, old, cracked, tattered and ugly. The 'down' comforter on my bed was threadbare, nearly transparent, hardly a feather in it. Carpeting in the rooms and throughout the rest of the hotel are dark, worn and soiled. This is hugely over-priced (my double queen room rented July '23 was over $460/night). The best parts here are the staff members and proximity to Main Street. read more

The place as an old vibe to it but not in a good way, the lobby is pretty but the rooms are ran down. Outside the parking lot you'll see bunch of homeless people running around. Stay away from the hotel's restaurant ! Our breakfast was served cold, someone's hair was wrapped in the utensils, the avocado was black ! And the manager was nowhere to be found. The front desk was not much help either so we just left and will never ever be back, even if it was all for free !!! read more

The Doubletree's location, nestled along the Animas River, is its best feature. It is also a hop, step, and jump from the surprisingly exciting Durango downtown. This city is a happening, beautiful Colorado mountain town. Thirty minutes from world class skiing, with an eclectic choice of excellent restaurants, Durango is a travel heavy weight. A certain "mountain sophistication," reminiscent of Boulder, envelops Durango. Craft breweries, 95 point French wines, its own liquor distillery, and everything to attract outdoor enthusiasts, are all available. If that airport ever expands its runways, look out below!!! The Doubletree is a large hotel that needs a makeover. My assumption is that will happen sooner than later because of Durango's expanding popularity. At present, the rooms, hallways, lobby etc. are all rather sad. Our fairly expensive river facing room was weird, having a huge, unusable space in front of the sliding doors leading to the balcony. The space screamed for a table and chairs, plus an ottoman. Look at the photo. However, the view from the balcony was smashing! I also liked the two sinks, one in the toilet room and one in an alcove across from the closet. Check In was representative of Durango still perched between a major destination and a small town. Confusion reigned, and it took an exponentially long time. Durango doesn't have hotels reflective of its metamorphosis into a hip town. The choices are throwback, western themed, boudoir hotels or generic chain hostelries. With that in mind, I would choose the Doubletree just for the amazing river walk fronting the back of the hotel. (Can you say fronting the back?) An entrepreneur needs to open a hip, boutique hotel in Durango. If I was twenty years younger, I would be renovating in Durango right now! read more

This hotel is in a great location. Right behind it there is a river, where people can get in if they'd like too. There is a trail you can walk/bike along the river. The hotel in right next to a grocery store, there is also a Starbucks and lots of places to eat. I love the scenery near the hotel as well. Highly recommend this location. The rooms are clean n sanitized and have good views. The entrance is perfect to its location and has a lot of wood frames and history. The doubletree warm walnut chocolates chip is not an exception here. I always look forward to these cookies read more

The hotel is very nice in a prime spot in Durango, but they take advantage of this to jack up the price. Rooms are clean and spacious. Bed was confy. Dog friendly(for a price). The river walk is great. The $12 per night parking is ridiculous, especially with a large parking area half empty. Not even if you are Hilton Honors member is this waived. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! This hotel fraudulently charges guests without their knowledge. Plus their rooms including their suites smell like smoke and have something broken in them. From our experience and all the family friends of ours who also stayed here had the same feedback. Here is a background on what happened - I booked a suite for a 2 night stay during my wedding weekend. I purchased the stay using my points through my chase credit card. So everything was already paid for and set. On top of our hotel not being ready for check in until 10pm my now husband provided his credit card for the standard hotel incidentals. For the second night of our stay the hotel tried charging my husbands credit card over $1,400 for the 2 night stay that was already paid for. They also charged us parking for a vehicle that wasn't on-site. Thankfully my husbands credit card kicked back the $1,400 charge so it never officially went through. On the second night of our stay (our wedding night) me & my husband decided to stay at our wedding venue instead of heading back to our suite at the double tree. Thank god we did otherwise we would have been locked out of our hotel suite on our wedding night with our belongs taken by staff. The next morning we planned to head to the hotel to check out and grab our belongings and to our discovery we were locked out of our room, and housekeeping took all of our things. It took a whole day for them to locate our belongings and management said they would remedy this situation. Well after going back n forth with Jennifer their manager. She isn't willing to provide any solution or reimbursement for what we experienced. So I recommend do not stay here specially if you plan to stay in Durango for a specific celebration. This hotel tries to charge guests for hotel stays that are already paid for by a third party. This hotel is a mess and all of our wedding guests that stayed here informed us of how bad their rooms smelled of smoke, and that something from the toilets, to the sinks, shower nosels to the balcony doors being broken. Including our balcony door in our fancy suite was also broken and our room smelled like smoke. Worst hotel in Durango by far! Highly recommend to not stay here! read more

We really enjoyed this hotel! The rooms are quite large. The beds and pillows are ridiculously comfy! Every room had coffee and tea, and a microwave and a refrigerator. We had rooms with balconies on the riverside, which was super nice. The bathrooms are super cute! we did eat at the hotel restaurant and it was quite pricey but the food was good. We ate there for one dinner and one breakfast and both times there were mistakes in our order. The front desk staff was super super friendly. Housekeeping and the maintenance guy were also very very nice.the pool is very nice and very clean. The hot tub was great. The hotel seems a little old and maybe a little bit dated, but we did not mind that at all because of how welcoming and comfortable and clean the entire place was. read more

I had breakfast here this morning. I had bacon, eggs, sourdough toast and hash browns. Topped it off with coffee and cranberry juice. Delicious! The over medium eggs were perfect , the hash browns were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with no aftertaste. Amazing! The toast was perfect, and the coffee outstanding. This may be the worst value in town and this is not an isolated thing, so you should be aware of what to expect 1. I prepaid $900 through the hotel website reservation system. When I checked in, they somehow "didn't know that" and charged me almost $1,100 dollars which tied up that amount on my card. It took almost 5 days to reconcile 2. I paid $22 for bacon, eggs, and toast and it was probably the worst breakfast I've had in years. The eggs were completely overcooked to being like boiled eggs. I asked for crispy bacon and got paper thin slices of bacon that was barely cooked. That was after I stood in the restaurant for almost 15 minutes before anyone even came out. Then that person walked right past me, didn't even acknowledge me, and just wandered around the restaurant checking on tables. And then pretended to notice me at the end of the tour. 3. The linens in the hotel were so cheap and the beds were so bad, I couldn't even sleep. I'm not sure I've ever experienced bedding that bad and I've traveled to 19 countries. 4. I lived in town when this hotel was built about 40 years ago. It has not been updated since and looks like the property owners haven't invested a dime in upkeep 5. There was maybe 5 employees in the entire hotel and was told if I wanted housekeeping, I had to ask for it 6. When I told them I couldn't stay another night, and would hope for a refund for my last night, they just blew me off. 7. I paid almost $300 per night, and they added so many fees on top of that including parking, when their entire parking lot was practically empty and they didn't tell me that they charged or was it disclosed anywhere. read more

Great location in Durango, not far from the train station. We scored a 2nd floor balcony overlooking the River Walk below and the surrounding mountains from above which was glorious! The property is old and in need of updates and remodeling, but despite that, our room was clean, very quiet and darkened with the heavy curtains at night for a perfect sleep. The bathroom area included two sinks (nice!) and the shower head water pressure was excellent. HVAC system worked well and was reasonably quiet. Breakfast was served to our travel group in an adjoining room so I cannot speak to what the usual offerings are, other than to say the warm croissants in the morning were great! Lastly, I want to recognize the early Sunday morning reception agent who was so kind and assistive. She took time to thank me for being a Gold Member as well as to inquire about the stay thus far. People like her are the reason we stay with Hilton. read more

Awful service in the restaurant and bar. We had reservations for New Year's Eve to take advantage of their advertised Prime Rib dinner special. We went early to avoid any potential crowds. We were told to "sit anywhere" because it wasn't very busy. It took 30 minutes to get a drink and then over an hour to get our dinner. The waitress said they were short-handed. They bring the dinner out on those big black carts that you sometimes see used bussing tables in a tacky restaurant. Terrible presentation. The only good thing I can say about the dinner was that the mashed potatoes were good; the prime rib wasn't. We then made a bigger mistake by going over to the bar inside the hotel. The bartender said it would be a bit of a wait. We weren't in a hurry, so thought 15-20 minutes would be fine. We bussed our own table and then waited 30 minutes before my husband and friend walked up to the bar to try to get a couple of drinks and bring them back to the table rather than waiting for the bartender/waitress to come to the table. She told them to go back to the table. We waited another 30 minutes and no sign that she was coming over. She wouldn't even make eye contact! After an hour of no service at all, we left. The management of the food and bar service at this hotel needs to be replaced as well as the bartender. read more

We decided to do it anyway because we were there. Bad choice. Food was luke warm and limited. Not what you expect for such an inflated price.
