In July of 2022 at age 65 I retired and my entire life I wanted a beautiful straight, symmetrical nostrils, less bulbose tip of my nose and a less wide nose. First Time: After three consults with different surgeons in the Scottsdale, Az area I chose Dr. Tamplen. Paid him his 14k for the Rhino. He and his team were great, but the first Rhino was very botched. Not straight, crooked column, assymetrical wierd nostrils. Second try: To try and fix the my crooked nose he performed an "in the office" alar procedure to try to make my nose straight. Nose was still messed up looking. Third Try: Dr. Tamplen actually took me back in to surgery of where I was excited to think maybe he would take all avenues that many cosmetic surgeons take to make a nose straight. There are many techniques a surgeon can do to construct a straight symmetrical nose. Again, to my sadness, my nose was still crooked. I still looked deformed. Fourth Try: In February 2026 I scheduled the fourth time, but cancelled and rescheduled for April 3, 2026. I spent money to fly to AZ waiting for the day to come. About a few days before the procedure, an office lady called me and told me I needed to pay $ 2,500 for the surgery time. I was so surprised because all along all Dr. Tamplen and his staff would say " all we want you to be happy with the outcome so we will do whatever it takes." I was very upset about this because my sister had her facelift revised by Dr. Tamplen, for free of charge. The office lady said, well we have done a lot for you and your sister. I told her well I am a different patient and why can't he perform my revision free? I got so upset that I said to forget it and never tried a fourth time. You will see in the pictures how crooked and messed up my nose it. I don't even want to look at a person straight on. My advice is to ask the surgeon what he is actually go to to perform a Rhinoplasty. Ask if he is going to take part of the rib, or other grafts to do a perfect job. I always wonder how do accident victims get their faces fixed so nicely after scars and more? He kept blaming my crooked nose on a scar below my nostril. My nose looked better before I had Rhinoplasty. Also just because a surgeon is top notch in their class does not mean they have "artistic" ability. Awful, awful, awful surgeon. Botched my rhino and left me with a list of problems. The goal was to correct my breathing but left me with a pinched tip that made breathing worse. Just a car salesman that won't care about you after you leave the operating room. Botched or not, he carries on with his life and continues to sell surgeries. read more

I had a competent surgeon perform facial surgery on me several years ago, and although it looked great for about 5 years, 5 years and tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket is not a lot of bang for the buck. So recently when I decided on rhinoplasty and various facial nips and tucks, I did a considerable amount of research. I learned that despite being a common procedure, rhinoplasty is incredibly complex. Although any plastic surgeon might attempt it, it soon became clear to me that only a double board certified facial plastic surgeon has the education to perform a reliable rhinoplasty, deep plane facelift, lip lift, or really most any facial procedure.  Narrowing my search to SF Bay Area double board certified plastic surgeons, I started reading reviews and comparing CVs. I checked state board records, Reddit, Yelp, Google Reviews, HealthGrades, etc etc.  Of all the CVs I examined, Dr. Matthew Tamplen's was the most impressive by a large margin. From his GPA and his awards to his prestigious fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Tamplen's background was not just impeccable, it reflected an unmatched depth of training and talent. Reading his online reviews further impressed me.  I did consult with several Bay Area facial plastic surgeons, and found all but one to be knowledgeable. Upon meeting Dr. Tamplen, I found him relaxed, confident, and professional but still congenial.  I settled on him to do my procedures and couldn't be happier.  Every procedure Dr. Tamplen did was simply perfect.  I'm not sure what more I can say about the results. His education and experience are reflected in my outcome.  Scars are minimal, and I look naturally refreshed. My nose is refined and subtly shaped. Despite my husband's oft repeated fears, it's not "a Michael Jackson look," and even he is impressed.  The intensive research really paid off. I didn't have a good experience with my outcome. I know there are risks that procedures will leave scars, but it wasn't even communicated. It's part of my fault for not asking questions, but I gave my whole trust. I have scars on the sides of my nostrils. One side is way worse. When I went back to get my stitches out, he couldn't find them and had to search for one to pull. My scars look like they're supposed to be the creases, but they're higher than where the natural crease would be. My nose was very crooked and healed back to crooked, with a bump. He did a 2nd procedure to take care of the bump and to straighten it again. The bump is still there, and my nose is a little straighter, but I can live with it. I'm still contouring with makeup. He had done one round of laser for the scar, and I can't tell if it helped much. He said my nose was interesting at the end. I also heard at my post visits that i bled a lot during surgery. I'm now seeing a surgeon with decades of experience, who says he's never seen scars this way because it was done wrong. He said laser can't fix these types of scars. I was there at my new surgeons for almost 3 hours, with 2 hours spent just talking to him. I got very emotional at the visor because of how caring he is. I will now be getting a procedure done just to make one side look better. I'm still paying for my surgery, sucks that I'm paying for mistakes. Also, my new doctor said bleeding a lot during my surgery shouldn't have mattered for this. On the side note, 2 stars because my mini facelift worked out. read more

So this is sadly a review that I've contemplated many times not doing, but I think it's important considering what I went through. I do not want anyone else to go through. I seen this physician over a year and a half ago. I wanted to do a lip lift, he said he could do it in office, it was incorrectly done the first time so he wanted to do a second one within a 10 day span mind you all of this was in office with lidocaine excruciatingly painful. The lip lift was a complete fail, and therefore he suggested to correct the asymmetry in my face, I would need rhinoplasty and a facelift. I had had a facelift just seven years earlier, but whatever he did with the lip lift completely demolished that one he did not charge me for the rhinoplasty, and the deep plain facelift. That should've been red flag number 1000 but I was so devastated by the outcome. I went forward and did not listen to the screaming in my head stop and run. So for the past year and a half I have spent, a lot of time inside my house with horrible agoraphobia due to this traumatic experience waiting to heal. I was able to have a corrective facelift - revision - very recently and hopeful for the outcome. The corrective facelift was done by a physician who specializes in facial plastic surgery, and did my facelift Originally years ago. Make your choices wisely do you research, I thought I had but I had not. Less is not more. I should mention that he had said to me a week after surgery oh I guess you're probably not a good lip lift candidate after all well a little too late now isn't it. I will never get my original face back. It completely changed my face and it's not for the better. But it's what I'll have to live with due to my very very poor choice, the follow up care was nonexistent. He seen me once after surgery and then all my calls were ignored and not returned. If you're reading this and are anything like me, you are most likely going down a rabbit hole and researching all the rhinoplasty surgeons to ever exist and are extremely overwhelmed, stressed out, and are realizing that finding a surgeon is a lot of freaking work. Looking for a great rhinoplasty surgeon is no joke. It is a stressful process, you are trusting someone with a part of your face that affects your appearance greatly. I went through a lottt of consultations and it took a lot of patience for me to not just go with my first consultation. To anyone reading this, I want you to know that he is truly the best out there and I trust his ability to give you the exact result YOU are looking for. Every rhinoplasty is different as every patient wants something slightly different. Some want a more natural straight look while others may want that cute bunny slope. Dr.Tamplen will listen to exactly what you want and give you exactly that. At the first consultation he takes photos of your nose and then places it into photoshop and together you edit what YOU want it to look like. By the end of your consultation he will make sure you are 10000% happy with the before and after photos. Other consultations I had did not have this process and instead they just verbally would say what it would look like, which did not give me a lot of confidence that they knew what I was talking about. I left Dr. Tamplens office feeling so confident in his experience and expertise and so safe with him as my surgeon (which was a huge deal because i had never had surgery before and i also have anxiety lol) Also the office staff are so warm and welcoming! So huge thank you to them as well for being so responsive and kind to me! I am currently 7 days post op and absolutely lovingggg my new nose! I still look like me, except now I see the version of myself that I always wanted to see in the mirror. Everyone deserves to be happy with their appearance, if something has bothered you for years and years and is always the first thing you look for in photos, you deserve to be happy and to change it. I am so relieved to not be thinking about my side profile anymore especially when I smile. Best decision I have ever made for myself. Period. Do not trust this man. He has no integrity and will f--- you up. And please do not have an office procedure from him. He will truly f--- you up. he does not follow p/p. I requested a neck lift, and this man recommended I have a Direct Neck Lift. It was beautiful. Later, the tiny scar turned into an ugly, large black scar on the midline of my neck. He lied and said I had Keloids. LATER, HE ACCIDENTALLY LEFT HIS PHONE OPEN, AND I SAW APPROXIMATELY 17-20 CLIENTS WITH THE SAME UGLY LARGE BLACK SCAR. Then he said I had a hypertrophic scar after a long time researching. He wanted to treat the hypertrophic scar. I declined!! I finally found a professional physician who specialized in scars, and he informed me that my neck was damaged ( poor Technique) and would require a 12-week Laser treatment plan. unfortunately, his office is in Florida. I am still researching for physicians. Do not rush take your time and do your homework. Ask to speak to someone who had the procedure done several years ago. And perhaps you will find a good PS with integrity. AGAIN, DO NOT LET THIS MAN TOUCH YOU; YOU WILL BE CRYING AND DEPRESSED FOR A LONG TIME. Dr. Tamplen is very nice and easy going. I Was really nervous but right away I felt at ease. He was very patient and listened to what I wanted. In the past I went to a medical spa for injections and had a bad experience. This time I wanted to see a facial plastic surgeon. I told him I wanted to look younger but not frozen. Dr. Matthew Tamplen is an exceptionally skilled surgeon whose talents are remarkable. I was not planning to have any surgery when I first saw Dr. Tamplen. I had already had 4 surgeries at Kaiser, all successful, but was not interested in anymore. I had some questions about a mark on my face that I was putting hydrocortisone on and my eyes were closing at the stoplight and during the day and especially at the end of the day. I thought I was overly tired for some reason, and was becoming afraid to drive. Dr. Tamplen let me know exactly what was going on when I saw him. I had Brow Ptosis and he told me how it is corrected and how he would also be able to work to correct some parts of my face and neck so that my face would be natural in appearance. I was shocked but not for long as Dr. Tamplen was kind, caring, and very reassuring. I never imagined I'd ever have surgery on my face. I went home to discuss with my husband and then researched Dr. Tamplen. His credentials, education, awards, and experiences are astounding. I am so thankful to have found Dr. Tamplen! I was interested in having some very light Botox and lip filler done, but was extremely nervous about looking "overdone" and wanted it to be very natural and tasteful looking.
