Excellent facility with many beds and a wide range of tanning lights. Very knowledgeable staff (thanks Amanda) and easy appointment making. Great part of San Rafael. I went in for a 10 card tanning package and loved it. Raya and Kathy at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. This place has stand up high pressure tanning as well as a variety of lay down beds and a red light therapy bed too. They are open seven days a week and parking lot is behind Trader Joe's on 5th Street. I'm excited to have all the best new tanning equipment. Makes a difference in the results. So I was scrambling at the end of August to get ready for a trip and of course had to go to my favorite tanning salon for a spray tan. I realized the next day while I was packing I was missing my diamond earrings. I left them in the dressing room! Fearing the worst I called Tan Bella and they not only had them, they assured me my earrings would be safely put away in the managers office until my return. I am beyond upset that went here for my spray tan. Originally I left a great review because the place was nice and the girl that helped me was nice. But two days later, worse spray tan ever. It's peeling off in large chunks and ruining my Vegas birthday vacation. It looks like I have skin disease I and literally followed the directions to a T. Do not go here! Whatever they use in the leg must is probably the issue u imagine. UPDATE: And to the comment posted by the Tan Bella representative, I have neither used sunscreen or nor have I been in the pool. The issue, which I did notice before leaving, is not my fault and the Yelp I left is not "destructive" it is honest. Your response, blaming me, is unacceptable. Then I ordered another service for decreasing age-related issues, and the actual service made me feel sick (it was a dish you stand on), so I canceled that subscription service on the spot. Somehow that cancellation did not go through and I was busy at work and neglected to check those charges. When I realized that I had been charged, I called them. It pains me to write this review. I used to love it here. The last three times I've been here there has been a problem. The first time I had called and made an appointment. When I arrived, the girl who took my appointment, didn't write it down. Subsequently I had to wait 15 minutes. The next time I went in, the girl programmed the computer wrong (even after I double checked with her to make sure it was right) and I got the wrong tan. Lastly, today I went in and one arm is tan and the other isn't. I don't know what's going on here but the owner needs to step up and figure it out! read more

I recently started going to Tan Bella to use the tanning bed as a way to develop some sort of base tan before I go to Hawaii later this month! I was extremely nervous at first as it was my first time ever using a tanning bed, and I'm somewhat claustrophobic. However, the staff assured me that I could easily get out at any time and showed me how to use all the controls to make sure I was as comfortable as possible! They are all super knowledgeable, understanding, and comforting! Emily is so sweet and recognized that I was wearing a college sweatshirt, so she asked if I was a college student and because I am she told me that I was eligible for 20% off my package! If she didn't mention anything I would have kept going without receiving the student discount that they offer! First timer who always was in fear of the whole process. Especially for a guy...I couldn't have felt more at ease when I walked in and met Aaron! He was calm, welcoming, and made me feel at ease from the very start. The process was easy, he walked me through so I didn't end up burned or too brown. The color was even and natural looking. I have been using Tan Bella for a very long time. I have NEVER seen any of the the issues that people seem to be complaining about. The staff is fun, professional always upbeat and thoughtful. Since Covid they have made great improvements to keep customers safe. Never have any staff members been rude to me or anyone else that I've seen them deal with. If there was an employee that was rude or disrespectful they are gone and let's be real here every business has one or two of those. Lets start with the front desk, such arrogant stuff ...big turn off. My spray tan it was the worst I have ever had. Before my trip to the Caribbeans I came for a $50 spray tan and what I got in the next day....my skin was orange, uneven, one side of my body was darker, my lower legs had no color compare to my upper legs. I'm absolutely changing my review of Tan Bella. Their bait and switch membership is completely bogus. Myself and a few other of clients signed up and we're very happy- for a month or two. Then we all left... or so we thought... I haven't been in since November and although I have tried to cancel and what not, have been charged a monthly $100 since. The customer service doesn't exist and they try to sell you on unlimited but you literally need to go daily to get somewhat of a tan. I do not have that kind of time on my hands. If I get a spray tan I expect to to last more than one day. Peter, the owner, sold me on my package and then changed out the machines. They do not work! The old machines were awesome! They sprayed quickly and lasted these new machines spray like a mister walking in Scottsdale... do not work! Anyway, if you want great decor and a place to waste your time and not get a decent tan, go ahead and sign up. If you want an actual tan then go anywhere else! I had personally advertised and praised them until I quit in November but was still charged a monthly fee!!!! $700 wasted for the last seven months I was billed. The staff is rude, self centered and unwilling to help. The "manager" is the worst of them all- be warned! I'll never support this place again and hope you steer clear of their BS Because I do not know how to reply to Peter that just wrote that I was verbally abusive. I haven't been in since November and have always treated the staff with respect because they do not control the product or results (I guess). Peter, you have disappointed me and I know now to post the text messages that you just sent me, threatening me. Threatening me! The client! I was a great client and promoted you on social media. So disappointed with my spray tan experience. Went in for a spray tan Wednesday for a big event tonight (Friday). Spent over $50 for the darkest tan and 'all the extras' just to make sure it looked great and lasted. By Thursday night I hadn't noticed a change but thought it needed more time to develop since the associate told me it would last up to 5 days. Here we are Friday morning and NOTHING! I'm wearing a backless dress and unfortunately not a tan :( Went in to discuss my lack of results with a different associate and she pretty much told me too bad. Nothing we can do. I've been a customer at Tan Bella for quite a while. I started using the tanning beds and have had great results. A short while ago we were taking a family trip to Hawaii and I thought it would be a good idea if the whole family got a head start on their tans. I bought a package of spray tans and brought the whole group in for a session. Not knowing what to expect, the staff took their time to explain the process of the tanning and what we should and should not do to maintain it while on vacation Well, we all got a great tan, everyone felt good and that made for a pleasant experience. We were gone for 10 days and the color held up well on everyone. Once we got back, three of us did a touch tan. Again the results were great. My sister flew back to Connecticut and a few days later she was telling me of all the great complements she was getting on here tan. Since we've been back, I've been doing a weekly spray tan to keep that Hawaiian feeling going. I've not had any problems with color and my husband is hooked on it too. Tiffany was knowledgeable and efficient in helping me weigh my options in wether or not to purchase a "package", or a "membership". She provided me with a tour and explained the difference in all the beds and the spray booth. I'm going back today for a tan and a spray, I can't wait to be bronze again. Re-stated: Tanning is compared to Europe, ridiculously expensive in California. But Tan Bella (this location) provides a cheaper solution and offers also the best value for the money. What will still remain from my original review: "If I'd suggest improvements, then it would be the matter of transparency. Paid almost 20 bucks for a sample of tanning cream." And yes. The owner is correct, that there are lotions for about 5 bucks or so. But there is no price tag. Just brands and colors and a regular guy has no idea about the prices and values. And I've picked one that was about $20 without having had the price COMMUNICATED. And that's all I'm asking for. I also want readers to know, that I got the big bottle (of the sample product) a week later even tho it was expensive. It's an awesome product. But in my opinion, a price has to be communicated.
