A friend referred me to Tess when I still lived in Marin. Now I'm hooked, and although I live in SF I haul my cookies all the way to the hub to get these voodoo magic facials. This is no place for modesty, ladies (and gentlemen!) so this review is totally candid and honest. It's also kind of long, but I think detail is important for this kind of review. My raging hormones might make me a fun girl to know, but on occasion I still get some nasty break outs, even at my age (about to move out of the 18-34 group.) Since my late teens I struggled to find a "cure" for my dry, sensitive, fair complexion. I have invisible pores, which is nice unless they're clogged, and the dryness only exacerbates the problem. Retina and even most acids deeply aggravate my skin. I was losing faith. I tried all manner of expensive department store and Sephora, Bliss, et al creams - and some do have their place for at home maintenance. But nothing can substitute the regular upkeep that a truly gifted esthetician can provide. Enter Tess. Yesterday I came to her looking like I had been attacked by killer bees. Today I would go on a blind date with confidence. She is amazing. I buy my cleanser, hyaluronic acid, moisturizer and masks from her, and love them all. If anything doesn't work out she takes it back - no questions asked, no attitude. As for Tess herself - she is a genuine, kind and gracious lady. I recommend her highly to anyone and everyone. p.s. Val was AMAZING! I've had so many facials with other people in the past to deal with my acne and always feel like I'm walking away disappointed with inflamed, red, bumpier skin- but not with Val! She is so knowledgeable about the science behind cosmetology (products and why they work) and the complexities of everyone's unique skin. I was already in love with Purevana after my first visit and now I'm a loyal client for life. I went in recently for the bridal facial with Darcie (my skincare angel). I also got the Vitamin A peel to intensify the treatment. This 'gentle' peel didn't sting at all and it seriously works. My face seriously glowed with happiness. These gals take such good care of me and Darcie even sent me home with a few samples to soothe my skin. They also offer a mini-facial to address last-minute concerns a week before your wedding. Let me just start with I love all of the women that work here. From the very first impression to the last they do not skip a beet. Walking up is an experience in its own. They have a beautiful well manicured succulent garden that is just thriving. It is gorgeous, filled with so many different ones. It's pretty unique. No doubt here that Someone has a green thumb. Opening the green door and walking in is like getting showered in amazing calm energy. Their is always someone at the front desk (usually Meg:) ) with a nice smile. She always greets me with my name. The decor is so beautiful. The lighting is always dimmed which leads me to want to stay in there forever. They have amazing products. A few different product lines that are all top notch. I used to use heavily chemical filled products (due to acne) that I hated because I had no natural shine from all of the chemicals. I got prescribed the appropriate products for my skin type. My face has never looked/felt better. They also have candles That are out of this world! I got a facial from Darcy and let's just say it was THE BEST facial I have ever received. I got the triple enzyme facial that is filled with beautiful smells that you almost want to eat! She includes a massage. I am so happy to have found Darcy. I've been to Purevana to have treatments with Tia Acevedo a few times now, unbelievable. She has not only amazing treatments that she offers, but she is incredibly knowledgeable about skin and health, I learn something new every time I see her. The Microcurrent that she uses is powerful! It's a great, non-invasive way to give oneself a little facelift, so effective and subtle all at the same time. I've been to a lot of great aestheticians but nothing beats the team at Purevana. Owner Valerie Marzano has incredibly high standards, and has created a relaxing, beautiful environment where the very best in skin care is offered. She only stocks organic and "good for you" products, this usually means they smell nice but don't do much, but not here! The peels, facials, waxing and products available for sale all do exactly what it says on the bottle. I have acne but no one knows and I always get complimented on my skin, so she's doing something right! They have fun evening events, and everyone that works there is smart and well informed, and fun. I just got my first facial at Purevana and I have to say it might be one of the best facials I have had. My appointment was with Darcy. She was great. She started off by waxing my eyebrows, which I didn't know was part of the service, so it was an extra bonus. I think my eyebrows have never been so perfect! Everything she put on my face was customized to my skin type, which was great. She went extra long even though I only booked a 60 min facial and spent some time massaging my neck and hands. I love Purevana, and have recommended it to many who live in Marin. I have being going to Tess since she was in my neighborhood in San Anselmo, and now I make the trek to Mill Valley b/c my skin partner is there. I was not blessed with great skin - thick, clogged and ashen. I put my face in Tess's hands, and have been so pleased with the results. I won't say that there is any magic involved - just a spirit of educated trial and error. Magic hands, magic I tell you! Tina gave me the most glorious facial a few weeks ago. She's new to Purevana, but not new to making your skin look absolutely glowing. I couldn't be happier that I came across Purevana. The spa was beautiful, clean, and soothing with the most caring staff. I recently had a facial with Megan, the best esthetician I have seen in years. She was very gentle and through with extractions. I have very sensitive skin and I was able to walk out feeling clean and clear rather than the normal beaten up feeling. Before I left the spa she suggested some wonderful skin care products for my acne problem areas which worked almost immediately and better than any of the hundreds of products I have previously tried. I also had Megan do my brows, which I normally fear because I am very picky about what they look like, they turned out better than I could have asked for, perfectly sculpted! Valerie at Purevana is wonderful! She addressed all of my questions, gave me a great facial and didn't try to sell me a line of products or a package of services that I didn't want to buy. When I initiated the conversation about a product for the dry skin on my legs, she offered several options including how to use oils from my kitchen (very low cost) to a wonderful product that I ended up buying at a reasonable price. They have a wide range of products so the solutions are truly tailored to your needs rather than restricted to the one product line that they carry. I've probably asked over 20 estheticians about the dry skin on my legs and Valerie is the first person who recommended a cost effective solution that works. I've been going to Tess for more than 6 years. I first went to her when she was at Stellar and then followed her to her own practice in San Anselmo because nobody could do the job like she could. She's fantastic! Besides the fact that about 90% of the time I fall asleep because it's so relaxing, my skin has that shine after her facials. My experience at Purevana with Val, the owner, has been outstanding (to say the least, really). I've found it very special to find someone like Val in an industry like this. She really knows what she's doing, on multiple levels. She creates an energetically sound and blissful environment along with her skills and knowledge. This is key if you're an energetically sensitive person in any way, or if you just want the best experience you can have even though you're not sure why it's the best. She's fun and focussed and brilliant with skin and attending to the person as a whole. I've found her service unparalleled by any other esthetician in the area (and I've looked around). I've also traveled throughout the US and abroad, and I honestly haven't come across anyone I'd rather go to. She's gentle, she has so much knowledge that you don't need to say much to her, and whatever you do say she will really listen. If you have concerns, she is patient and will take the time to address them. She handles fear very well, so if you're scared, she's an excellent person to relax into, to trust to care for you and your skin. She's kind. She's non-judgmental and genuinely always looks for the beauty in people. I feel relaxed and at ease with her. She feels very safe in a wholistic way: how she will treat you as a person and how skillful she is with skin (there's nothing to worry about when you lay down on her table). She has wonderful interpersonal skills. She has a very caring personality in general, and will do whatever she can to make your experience wonderful. She can be hard to get an appointment with, she fills up very fast. I'd recommend booking an appointment for however long out into the future she's booking.
